Ideal for getting away from everything. Staff are great the cabins are basic but nice and clean. No mirror in cabin no. 4 tho! Had a lovely peaceful 4 days. Coming from the UK not used to everything shutting and everyone going off to bed at 8pm so some enforced early nights with a book!

We had a one night stay here last night. It’s in a great location on the island. The staff were very friendly at check-in however we were disappointed to find many areas of the cabin were not clean. There was also a strong sewage type smell when we sat out on our balcony and it also drifted inside as well. We would not stay here again or recommend it to our friends.

We had lunch here and it was fantastic. I ordered the hamburger and was pleasantly surprised when I was delivered a double beef burger with bacon. Really enjoyed our lunch here.

In the shop most of the staff were kind but 1 staff member was so rude to all customers. Was such a pleasant place when this staff member was not there.

Go exploring and the retreat is a great place to base yourself from. So much to see ❤️

Our accommodation was changed three times! Many conversations to ensure we got the villa we wanted. Sadly the couch was broken, the phone didn’t work, the stove was sooooo slow, the shower went cold hot cold hot constantly, all the knives were blunt and broken, the pool was filthy at the water level, as in the scum mark, many places the pools were cracked and broken, the lights in the pool were broken. Our friends son vomited at the resort and it took three days in a row to ask them to clean it. In the end my wife asked for a bucket to clean it up as we felt so bad it was still there. The workers are walking around on their phones. It’s just not what it used to be like. Don’t stay at the resort!

Booked accommodation for tonight, got to retreat around 3 pm today picked up keys and inspected room, room was dirty bed was nasty with springs poking out towels were wet and folded on bed and smelled like they were already been used, room was supposed to have bathroom but a separate one down the other end of hallway, backpacker quality and over priced, and to top it off there was no where to get any meals no food served on Tuesdays and no breakfast available on wednesdays only to be told to try eurong resort you may be lucky to get something there 25km away. This information would of been useful to know before we booked this. So we dropped the keys in the early check out box and cut our losses and raced down the beach to get the barge back to the mainland and got accommodation in rainbow beach at less that what we got ripped off there.

What a great place to stay. Jen and Dave were awesome, so helpful and accomadating. It made for a great first trip to fraser island. Miss you guys.

Needs better managers. There is no Wi-Fi the beds had no blankets no towels were supplied until we asked. No air conditioning or heating. We booked and paid for two nights but have left after a terrible night. Better to kiss $150 goodbye and stay elsewhere.

Jen and Dave are the best hosts. They are so friendly and helpful way beyond expectation. They bailed us out of a difficult situation with local support. We can’t thank all of you enough. We will definitely be back and will recommend Fraser Island Retreat to others. The facilities are great and accommodation extremely comfy. All the staff have been professional and Friendly.

Please don't believe the reviews. This place is grim at best. We stayed one night out of a four night booking for $220 per night! The cabin (9) was dirty, mouldy, dangerous and rundown. We left after one night because our son had an allergy to a mouldy sofa. The wardrobes, window furnishings and sofa were mouldy. There was rubbish behind the bedroom door, bear wires, dirty broken pedestal fans (ceiling fans were useless). Hair and skin on bed heads. Under beds and sofa had not been cleaned for years. Coffee cups were dirty and just turned over. The windows were rotten and couldn't be closed. The window blinds were broken and couldn't be closed. There was nowhere to unpack your belongings except for a bank of lockers from the retreats days as a backpacker hostel. The showerscreen was gone and replaced with a dirty shower curtain and a rod haphazardly drilled through the shower surround. Hair all over the bathroom floor, a leaking toilet, shower full of sand. The blanket box was full of screwed up, assume used blankets. The cabin walls had holes from previous fittings. The lighting was dull. There was nowhere to go after the kids had gone to bed. We were staying at off-peak, it would be difficult to see how one camp kitchen could service 13 cabins in peak season. We spoke to an owner who was apathetic about our situation. I showed him photos and he agreed there had been a mould problem since the rain and there were leaks he was aware of.

Good food and drink prices a pretty good.

The staff at the Fraser Island Retreat store were very friendly and accommodating with our requests. We regularly called in to the store during our two weeks on Fraser Island (our kids like ice cream each afternoon after exploring the island) and each time we were met with big smiles from the staff. The dinner that we had there was delicious and just the perfect size, and the many coffees we had there were made really well. Everything was clean and the eating area is shaded and cool which is lovely after coming in from the hot and bright white beach. Will definitely be returning to the shop at Happy Valley during our future trips to Fraser Island.

Fabulous friendly staff, meals were decent size, cocktails were better than my local back in Brissy. Coffee good too. Kookaburra was friendly too but think he got a bit upset we didn’t feed him. Thanks guys see you next year :) 10/5 stars.

Great place to stop off at for a drink and supplies. Their hamburgers are great and good value too. Staff are friendly and helpful.

An awesome place to stay. Very comfortable rooms. Super friendly staff and lovely food. It has a quaint little shop as well.
The added bonus here is the memorabilia from The Maheno ship. Definitely worth stopping in or even better stay a few days and enjoy the atmosphere.

Five star, not in the way they measure facilities. It is the way we felt about our stay. Centrally located on the beach. All the staff are extremely helpful. Larry was patient in answering all our questions and shared some insight about inland tracks. Good for families to stay. Camp kitchen is nice. Rooms are spacious. Not sure about Wi-Fi but there is patchy Telstra signal for emergency. We went there to free up our minds from the internet, so it's fine. When there is no rain, inland tracks become rough. Happy valley then becomes tidal dependent. When there is deep washout, beach road is passable only two hours either side of low tide. Remember in such conditions, it is not just to avoid two hours either side of high tide. In these conditions, it is difficult to visit far away place and come back to Happy Valley. So, you may need to book accommodation to stay near where you go. Get the current conditions information and don't rely on several days old information. Conditions change on daily basis. Good luck!

Nice and earthy and not poncey… dinner wasnt amazing, but pff, comfy rooms, warm showers, nice folks, great place to stay.

Called in for a late lunch last week on our trip. The staff were FANTASTIC. They accommodated our every needs even 5min before he kitchen was to close. We then called in again on our way back down the island and once again staff were fantastic, couldn’t do enough for us even when it was flat out and lots of things were going on and not working (out of their control). Dylan is a massive asset to your staffing team!

Good place to stop and have a time out.

Just spent a week on Fraser camping in zone 4 but was at the Happy valley inn getting my coffee fix every morning and we also had tea at the pub one night very nice and the staff where all wonderful.

Was upgraded when we arrived to a cabin which was awesome. Beds are new and we're extremely comfortable. Cabin was clean and we'll looked after. Also had a BBQ in the outdoor kitchen which was fully equipped. Owners were nice. Not a party place but if you like a bit of peace and quiet this is for you. Also has a pool, bar, restaurant and shop attached.

Great for families, can cook your own food in the camp kitchen. Resident goannas, a few childrens pythons spotted around the grounds. Pool to cool off in. Restaurant and bar with a pool table. A creek at the entrance full of prawns, yabbies, good at night spotlighting with the kids. Loved this place.

Awesome pub in Fraser Island with very friendly staff who obviously enjoy their jobs, the meals were great, I ate there 3 nights in a row and their ribs were some of the best I’ve eaten anywhere I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Fraser Island.

Able to buy some of those necessary items needed at the shop. Nice hrlpful & friendly staff.

Be careful when booking. Very unprofessional as they take your full payment on booking not the 25% that they tell you. We booked a week before our stay and they took the full payment as soon as we booked. Nearing our travel day the weather turned nasty and the roads flooded, the office person even told us that they had lost internet due to the cyclonic conditions that they were experiencing on the Island. We were not able to get there and the Police issued warnings not to travel, but despite this they kept 25% of our booking fee. I would not book anything with them as I feel that they have stolen my money.

Great place for a good feed, either at lunch or dinner. They make great coffee and the chips are awesome. I had the beef and reef for dinner and it was tasty and very reasonably priced. The staff are very happy with their jobs and the service is of good standard. The shop is well stocked wit with food items and bait. Fuel and diesel is also sold here.

Was a great place to stay. The views are breathtaking. I'd recommend if you looking for a place to get away from it all!

Great place for a stop during the day. Quick bite to eat at the pub and either head inland or back out to the beach.

I simply love Fraser Island Retreat. I have stayed here many times over the years. Steve, Debbie and Larry along with all their staff make you feel exceptionally welcome. The simplicity, fresh, crisp, clean rooms makes my stay even more enjoyable and the bistro menu is to die for with so much seafood and other options to choose from. When I'm not camping on the beach Fraser Island Retreat is my first choice for places to stay on Fraser. A must stay for any traveler.

We had lunch there and expected average quality and high prices given how remote this place is. We were amazed that the prices were some of the most reasonable we'd seen across Australia, the food was very good (way above average) and the portions were huge. To top it, service was nice, friendly. A really pleasant surprise.
