Air con was not working properly in room not cooling enough needs service,
Only one staff in the aftrnoon who serves reception and the bar as well, it took them 45 mins to make a cocktail, even wen you order beer in poolside it takes them hours to bring plus wen we ordered second cosmopolitan cocktail they didn’t had vodka left
Also ran out of plastic beer glasses to serve near pool
One guy was doing everything he could
But not a service and money we paid for. Very disappointing Staff is friendly thou ☺️

When I’m working away in Newcastle I always enjoy my stay here, the staff are professional & friendly, the beds are very comfortable & the food delicious.

I had my 21st birthday dinner at the Mercure this month, and it was amazing. My friends and I were all really impressed by the food. We chose a selection of burgers, schnitzels, and vegetarian meals — you can't go wrong with the menu really. We reserved the function room for dinner. It was a great way to separate ourselves from the rest of the diners (so we didn't disturb anyone during dinner). The function room's easy access to the bar was a bonus. Following dinner I stayed overnight with family. We stayed in the connecting rooms (my younger brother was a big fan of the spa). The TVs have the Netflix app, Youtube, and the ability to stream from your phone to the TV — as well as all the other regular TV features. The rooms were large, plenty of room for my family. The view from our rooms was incredible. There were air conditioners in both rooms, and they worked really well so we weren't cold at all (despite it being very terrible weather outside). I had breakfast there the following morning. Again, amazing food. There are plenty of healthy options, as well as pancakes and big breakfasts, so there is something for everyone. Due to poor weather I stayed an extra night at the Mercure, they were more than happy to sort that out for me. I had room service for dinner that night and breakfast the next morning which was a very cool experience. The staff were all lovely and happy to help in any way they could.

A huge thank you to the Mercure Charlestown. We ordered a Home delivered High Tea for Mother’s Day and all I can say is WOW, it was outstanding, delivered right on time and so much amazingly tasty food, everything was spot on — 10/10 team Mercure. Thank you again!

Seriously delicious food! Just got isolation take-away. THE most delectable takeaway you’ll ever have. Thai curry laced with vegetables and just the right amount of spice, hokkien noodles with perfectly cooked seafood. Home cooked comfort with chef capabilities! Thanks guys!

Was surprised no lift for disabled people, and lots of noise from corridor and other rooms, children playing in hallways and doors banging from 7.30 am, so much for our nice nite away and lovely sleep in. Very disappointed staff didn’t seek out the noise makers and ask them to return to their rooms and quieter down.

We had a wonderful stay. I can particularly recommend the breaky. Great produce shine’s through to make a 5star experience. I always think the scrambled eggs are an indicator of the love of a chef and these were perfect. Great design touches and the kids had an awesome time in the pool. Can’t wait for our next visit.

Just returned to Sydney after a very memorable stay at the Mercure Charlestown. From our check in experience which went very smoothly to the spacious rooms to the very tasty buffet breakfast which was a great bargain to the clean swimming pool, our 3 days spent there made for a very memorable stay.
The Mercure is close but not to close to the awesome beaches of Bar and Mereweather beaches which is great.
Special mention to their staff at the front desk Ryan who was so very helpful and paid attention to the minutest detail also the restaurant staff who very courteous and understood fully well what good customer service was all about.
The rooms were v comfortable with the only downside being the chink in the bathroom sliding door which compromised a bit of privacy as our boys were in the room with their grandparents and the other being the exhaust not working in our bathroom.
All in all a top hotel to stay in and great value for money.

Very good dinner… and brilliant value… service was excellent.

Nice hotel and very clean. Only issue was that none could make a proper cup of coffee. Our coffees weren’t even drinkable. We didn’t appreciate the grease traps to the restaurant being emptied at 9am as everyone was checking out — could really be managed a bit better and maybe done after 11am when everyone has departed for the day! The smell nearly made us spew.

Room is great! Service is great! And I just had the best vegetarian pizza from room service I have ever had in my very long life! Salad was delicious too!

Not far from shops. Basic rooms, but clean and tidy. Dinner and breakfast yummy. Friendly staff.

We booked online thru one of the booking apps. We booked a room for 2 adults & an 11 year old child. When we get to the room there's one king size bed, no other bed. Ask at the counter for the extra bed, we get told "that's the sleeping arrangements for 3 people in that room". So they want me to sleep in the king size bed with 2 adults & an 11 year old… WTF!
Ended up paying extra for a trundle bed.
Soured the whole stay & gives the name Mercure a bad rep for me!

Good position. Very clean. Nice staff. Good sized rooms. Very good value at breakfast buffet.

Room was well kept, set far enough back from the main road that the traffic couldn’t be heard. I was surprised to see the parking wasn’t allocated per room and the Wi-Fi was not accessible from room 106 on wards (at the front of the property). I was in 107 and walked around to find the Wi-Fi. It did however work in the bathroom!

Nice place, clean, looks inviting. Nice restaurant area. Good breakfast buffet with nice scrambled eggs and mushrooms. Plenty of parking.

Nice, clean, comfortable accommodation and well priced. Good room service menu and nice food. Staff friendly and efficient and ample parking. A fine place for a night or two if you want clean, good value accommodation that isn't overly fancy but is more than comfortable.

A great place to stay overnight or for that romantic weekend. Wonderful views. Friendly, helpful and hospitable staff always available. Can also function well as a conference venue!

Service as a member was okay. Some more direction on where you are goung when checking in from the reception team would be great. Meals were amazing! Fresh and flavor — all you can ask for. Housekeeping — a little more attention to detail and everything would be perfect. Will I stay again? Yes. Do I recommend? Yes. Will the feedback given make for 5 start review? Yes.

I've stayed here a few times and each time was a pleasant experience. Clean rooms, nice food.

Was a very small room and quite difficult to get from the car to the room. We had booked a room for a disabled person only one handle on the far side of the bath was to far to reach to late to change when we arrived Was expecting better from a Mercure hotel.

Shocking service and can really put people in uncomfortable situation. Having to speak to concierge and argue what is on their in room dining trading hours and and restaurant available times and then concluding he conversation say no they both say the same time and it’s 9pm not 9:30. In other words we are lying. Just for everyone’s reference. The call was made 9:02pm.

It's a hard choice between 3 and 4… It's a great spot, lovely view, but something should really be done about the doors… soft close that shut with a BANG that echoes down the hall… Not good to get jolted out of your sleep every half an hour : (also not great that the pipes scream while other people are using the shower etc. Doesn't make for a relaxing stay. Otherwise, the rooms are nice and clean, the staff are lovely.

My room had a big huntsman spider and when I called reception they took care of it straight away. Room was comfortable and staff were very nice. Food at restaurant was good. Parking was free.

Excellent room however a few issues no lift to first floor rooms. The breakfast was good over all however bakon was like as well as sausages.

Quite location considering its next to a main road, neat rooms.

In the middle of no where and $160? The pictures on travel web sites should really be taking explicit pictures of the actual room you will be staying in, that way you know what you are getting for what price. Yes the room was clean, but as I found out later from other reviews; the place does need a clean up, updating of interiors and don't charge for bottles of water that are not Evian or high quality spring water. The fact that this place was in the middle of Charlestown and really no where exciting to be truthful; the room should have been half the price I paid. I know for next time there are more modern hotels there I should have done my homework.

Pool closes at 6pm, I arrived at 7.10 said I'm going to go for a swim 40c day, wasn't told the pool was closed. Found that out when I went to my room, rung to check if this was correct. Was told manager makes the rules. Down the road at the apollo the pool closes at 9pm a much better time. When I ask if I could get a refund, was told I can't do that. Room is dated, won't be staying here again! Girl on front desk nice, for a Mercure hotel this is not up to standard.

Comfortable rooms with friendly staff. Pleasantly surprised with a bath tub in the standard room. Soft bed, air conditioning, good water pressure in the shower.

Bar and restaurant were closed on New Years Day, drinks and meals were still available with room service, though, which was fair enough, I suppose. No proper dining table in my room so I didn't bother with it. Aside from that, the room and bed was quite comfortable, bathroom and toiletries were in good order. Pretty good value all round.

Nice place a bit out of Newcastle that we stayed in for a night on the way to Sydney. The halls/some of the common areas were a bit run down but the rooms and breakfast were both good. All of the staff were exceptional when we were there. Probably too expensive for what it is.

Work function on the pool deck. Nice view, finger food was good. We all had a good time.

Really nice staff and experience with the room, would definitely go again. Only thing I can pick out is a few bugs on the dinner tables but that's alright.

Not bad value for money. We have stayed here a few times as it is a handy location for visiting friends who live nearby but with no space for visitors. Staff are friendly and room was clean, we have never really had any bad experiences with Mercure Motels. We did get a bit road noise from the highway but it wasn't too bad.

Motel was booked by my work. Wi-Fi reception was one bar and was incredibly slow in my room. Had to have laptop on floor to check email. Found dried blood on my pillow case and sheet. Phoned reception to have sheets changed. Room service changed sheets but removed and did not replace quilt cover and put only one sheet on. Therefore I had to deal with a scratchy uncovered quilt. Cigarette butt on verandah.

Nice hotel, very clean and modern room. The bed was large and comfy, and the front desk lent us an HDMI cable to connect our laptop to the TV! No complaints.

We purchased a Groupon voucher for a family celebration. The best value for money. Food excellent and staff friendly and helpful. Plus great city views.

Arriving at the hotel I was met with warm smiles and a friendly hello. The rooms are a little dated in some respects but I arrived in the middle of an upgrade and things are looking great in the refurbished sections. Breakfast was fantastic and kept me going all day.

I had my 50th function at the Mecure last night. What a magnificant night. I had canapes and a sit down buffet roast dinner meal, having booked the entire restaurant, deck and function room. My thanks to the staff whose service to my guests were second to none. To Todd, the chef, wow! The food was amazing and surpassed my expectations. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou for making my night just perfect… :-)

Overall our stay has been good. Only small details that's making it less enjoyable. There definitely needs to be a microwave the room. Prices on the menu are a bit expensive although the food is good.

Been here a few times now and happy to go back also.
Breakfast is great, staff are great, rooms are big roomy and clean on 2nd floor, parking outside but convenient unless it rains where the portico comes in handy.
Only downside is no lift to first or second floor from reception or carpark, only stairs.

Location is good, 15 minutes to CBD, beach, Warners Bay + other parts of Newcastle. Rooms were large, bed comfy, good size bathroom, heating was efficient, big windows, balcony, & views out to nature, & if in right room can get some ocean view. Restaurant for breakfast was adequate for Conventional, didn't have hot breakfast, interior modern, lots of light. Plenty of parking space, lots of natural nature around motel, in a quiet location, staff helpful. It is an older motel, & some areas need updating & painting.

I attended a Workshop yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by all facets of The Mercure including the facilities, location, friendly staff and the delicious catering. We enjoyed our tea breaks and lunch on the deck overlooking the pool which offered spectacular views of Newcastle. I would highly recommend The Mercure for small-medium corporate events and workshops.

Very clean rooms, comfy beds, family rooms great value with a Queen and 3 king singles, add a breakfast and it's a great weekend, had the buffet breakfast and it was awesome, hot foods, cereals, fruits and pastries, also had ordered breakfast once and its was great with a wide variety to choose from but not sure if they do that any more as for the buffet breakfast, also once you've stayed a few times they give great discounts on room and breakfast, would recommend this to any one looking for great affordable accommodation.

We had 4 rooms booked as we were attending a wedding. Rooms very clean and very spacious. Heaps of parking. Location was great and close to everything. Staff were very friendly and happy, they were also very helpful. We had the buffet breakfast and it was good value for money. Would highly recommend this hotel and we will definitely stay there again.

Very clean, functional hotel with great staff. Always welcoming and friendly. Comfy beds, good showers. Some extra Foxtel channels would be nice but that's a minor point. Food at dinner and breakfast whether in the restaurant or room service is excellent and good value for money. Not a luxury hotel, but it's not supposed to be. A very good, solid offering where I know what to expect with every stay. No complaints at all.

Rooms are simple and clean, exactly what you would want from an overnight stay. The staff are extremely friendly and always happy to help out with anything that they can. Us per simple to get to and from, short drive to Charlestown Square. Overall a great experience, I'd definitely recommend it.

Arrived here in our campervan due to the torrential downpours preventing us from driving further. The girl on reception was really really friendly and even upgraded our room when we told her our plans were ruined due to the rain. Got a king deluxe room which was amazing after 3 weeks living in a van! Highly recommended.

Nice old style hotel with big rooms and a quiet setting — a short drive from the beach and shops. Staff were extremely friendly and breakfast by the pool was nice.

Stayed two nights ago and was very happy with our stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and modern. Pre-ordered the big brekky and was impressed with both portions and quality. Would definitely recommend the Mercure Charlestown.

Good food, annoying to have to go through the carpark to get into the pool.

Few orders were wrong, asked for a dessert menu and it took over an hour to recieve it. Food was not nice. There was shell in my crab. Limited food options. Were not told about specials. Only knew of their existence as I overheard another waitress telling another table.

We flew in from Brisbane and stayed at the Mecure in Adamstown on the 4th and 5th December 2015. The decor in the complex is rather tired looking and in need of an upgrade. When we walked into our room there was a faint smell of cigarettes in the air. I opened the balcony sliding door and there was an empty cigarette packet in the corner with a few cigarette butts around it. The bed was fantastic and we slept very well. In the morning we drove to Bar Beach for a walk on the sand. When we returned to our room we were appalled at the state of our cleaned room. The room hadn't been vacuumed and the carpet was dirty. The ready made bed looked like it had been sat on leaving a crumpled bed cover. The pillows had been messed up and tossed onto the bed. There were used dirty tissues (not ours) also on the bed. The empty cigarette packet and butts were still on the balcony floor. One of us had gone straight to the reception desk and complained. The lady at the desk named Vanessa was unapologetic and implied that if we left anything on the bed the room service attendant won't clean the room. She also added that the balcony is only cleaned once a week. Her excuses were very lame that they defied belief bordering on ridiculous. Shortly afterwards an attendant came to our room. When she walked in she looked embarrassed at the state it was cleaned. Debra did a thorough job of cleaning it to the standard I'd expect from the Mecure. She was fantastic.

Friendly staff, breakfast was excellent, loved the free internet, nice place overall. Definitely going back next trip ☺.
