Been since 2015 my parents actually stayed quite regularly I also began my labour of my first child in this place the meals were amazing the atmosphere was nice and beautiful what a surprise in place to be considering Wellington doesn’t have that much of a great reputation this place was definitely a home away from home a nice simple vacation with great service and great people they truly became family.

We stayed in the Duke suite. Full of old world charm, ambience at its best. The property sits on a hill overlooking the town with stunning views from the verandah. Which is perfect for pre dinner drinks. The hosts are very friendly and have reopened the restaurant so you don’t have to go out to eat. Can’t wait to stay there again.

Fantastic accommodation. Such a lovely restaurant with great meals. Lovely people running the place as well. Will come back for sure. So welcoming.

We are staying in the store cottage… The history and ambience is something worth seeing and feeling. The views are spectacular and the chap who we have had contact with here is lovely and helpful. If you love old places and peaceful surroundings I highly recommend coming here for a stay. I hope to be back one day. Also good facilities and very clean!

I would highly recommend Hermitage Hill to anyone looking for 5 star accommodation, food and service. A big thankyou to Wayne for going the extra mile to ensure I enjoyed every meal. Wayne changed the menu on our second night to accommodate my fussy taste buds. The meal he served us on our first night was exceptional also. I found myself eating food I wouldn't normally order because I had heard how superb the food was and I wasn't disappointed. If we lived locally we would be regular patrons in the restaurant. We stayed in the Duchess Suite and it was worth every dollar. Will definitely be back to stay and eat!

Great place to stay. Room (7) in the guest house was very comfortable (just could have done with a 2nd bedside table). Shared bathroom not an issue. Our evening meal was excellent — very well cooked and presented and plenty of it! Breakfast also was great. Lovely clean pool on site. Would highly recommend Hermitage Hill.

Accommodation was clean and comfortable and quiet. The place was originally built as a hospital around 100 years ago so the rooms are ex staff living quarters and the bathrooms are shared facilities. The restaurant and kitchen and other buildings were wards and operating theaters and hospital facilities. On a hill overlooking the town.

This place is a gem. Very comfy room with a great array of toiletries in the adjoining ensuite (not all rooms are ensuite), including shoe polish! The only thing missing is a wardrobe bit this would only be an issue if you were staying a long time.
Nice restauraunt on site for dinner & breakfast (fantastic quality orange juice and barista-made coffee complete and whatever else you ask for) and they even made me a packed lunch to take to work because they knew I wouldn’t be able to buy any where I was working. The house Sauvignon Blanc went down a treat!
You can expect an incredibly warm welcome from your hosts and friendly service. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. The heritage buildings are really beautiful and ooze character. I’d stay again in a heartbeat — thanks for having me!

Stayed at the hermitage for about 5 weeks for work. Service from the owners is unreal. They go above and beyond what you expect, and are unforgettable people. I have made new friends and had great experiences. I cannot recommend this place enough. Thanks Julie and Wayne for the great hospitality.

June 2017 — has recently been taken over by new owners one of which is a chef. Food at the restaurant Amazing! Room very neat tidy and cosy with everything you could ask for. Lovely historic building!

Amazing place we love it the history of the place is so interesting, the romms very nice and clean and Julie and her husband Wayne are an amazing couple so friendly and they welcome you with an open heart. We have dinner and breakfast and it was excellent great place to stay over the weekend highly recommended.

I have stayed at 2 motels at different times when visiting Wellington. This time I was fortunate enough to find Hermitage Hill. From booking via phone, arrival, duration at Hermitage Hill to Departure, it was a wonderful experience. As I needed accommodation for a person with Mobility and Vision problems, the staff at Hermitage Hill ensured our every need was catered for. If ever your going to be staying overnight or longer in the Wellington area, I would highly recommend The Hermitage. Michael Ellis JP.

Hermitage Hill has become our regular play to stay when we're in Wellington. First off, it's the only place in town with K beds, so if you want some space, or have a large or tall bed-partner, this is your only option. The venue is the old Wellington Hospital, and the range of accommodation reflects its heritage. One such option is the "Guesthouse", which I think was the old nurses' accommodation block. Some of the rooms here have an en-suite, whilst others are essentially just a bed and you need to use the common bathroom. (Prices of course reflect the appointments of the room). The Guesthouse also has a large common room, with TV, pool table, lounges and kitchen facilities — ideal if you're travelling with a group of people or you'll be in town for a while. (In October 2012 we stayed in Room 1 in the Guesthouse, with both a K and a Q bed, plus our own en-suite). Elsewhere on site are some of the suites. These are a little more secluded and ideal if you're after more separation from the other guests. These come at a premium. All rooms have air conditioners, and all (? ) open on to wonderful balconies, ideal for listening to the wind in the trees, watching the sunset, or just a quiet drink with your +1. Hermitage Hill is on the very edge of town, with no town lights beyond, so you get a great view of the night sky from the edge of the property. Bring the telescope or camera tripod for some stellar exploration or time-exposures.
