A warm, friendly welcome awaits all who stay here. Margaret and Rowan go out of their way to make you feel at home from the minute you step through their door. You would be very hard pushed to find more attentive and knowledgeable hosts; nothing is too much trouble for them. From recommendations for dining to the best shops in town, they can point you in the right direction. The breakfast is optional, but is excellent value and with the fresh fruit salad and homemade bread m…ade daily and enjoyed in a relaxed atmosphere, we did not want to try anywhere else. A very welcome break from the big corporate hotels that seem to be the rage these days, the Glenella takes you back to a gentler pace of life. It does not try to compete with larger hotels by providing for your every whim and if it did, I think it would fail. It is pitched at just the right level to succeed in what I imagine is a tough industry. We stayed in the basic room as we were only there for 3 nights; it was very clean, quiet and warm — everything you need. There are no TVs or tea/coffee making facilities in the room as the hosts prefer guests to mingle in the many seating areas (which have a TV) and chat to each other — a refreshing change in this day and age. I can honestly say I did not miss the TV one bit. The variety of nationalities that passed through over the 3 days made for lively conversation.

It’s very easy in these times of plenty to expect everything to be done for you. The Glenella was a delightful reminder of the past, how guesthouses used to be before corporate packaged bathroom packs and beverage facilities.
Roman and Margaret greet everyone warmly without exception, a full tour is given leaving few, if any, questions. The shared facilities are clean and tidy, due not only to the staff, but the clientele as well.
The breakfast, though not included, is wholesome and will no doubt beat anything you can find in the many cafes in town.
As seasoned visitors to the Blue Mountains, we avoided our default Katoomba stay and are so glad we did. We will most definitely be back next time we come to Australia, and for a long stay this time.

Amazing place. So welcoming. You can enjoy every part of the house. Though there were 30 people staying, sometimes you felt you had the house all to yourself.

Very warm and cozy atmosphere. Felt very welcomed on arrival and loved the 'old fashioned' guest house feel where guests chat to each other and made to feel at home.

Had the most incredible stay at Glenella. The most charming and beautiful guest house we've ever experienced. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and we felt at home straight away. A warm and cosy atmosphere, charming decor and a gorgeous balcony view. Usually I don't visit the same place twice, but Glenella makes an exception to this rule. Any time of year this makes for a great home away from home as you explore the mountains and can look forward to returning to the guest house at the end of your day. You must stay here if you are looking for a unique and memorable experience!

Nice location and wonderful premises. This 100 years old guest house made us feel comfortable and welcomed. Large common spaces, lounge, sofas cosy and comfortable. Our room with 2 single beds was small though, with a private bathroom. No television, but a lovely fireplace in the lounge to warm up and social with others. Thanks Margaret to make us feel welcomed.

Just lovely! Comfortable, quaint, relaxing and didn't cost a fortune. Close to some of the most spectacular sights the Blue Mountains has to offer. Margret and Rowan are charming hosts. I'll be back!

Lovely Bed and Breakfast very close to the centre of Blackheath villiage. A very warm welcome was provided and the warm service and interest continued throughout. There is a bar and a first class breakfast was served. Highly recommended.

Lovely guesthouse near the centre of Blackheath. Rowan and Margaret are great hosts and have lots of useful tips to share. There is no longer a restaurant but a hearty English breakfast is served every morning.

Rowan and Margaret are such a lovely and welcoming couple. Beautiful house and lovely room with ensuite. Central location so able to walk around town.

Such a beautiful and relaxing place to stay. The staff were so polite and attentive to guests needs. The quality of service, rooms and food were impeccable. Could not recommended a more pleasant place to stay if your ever in the blue mountains.

Whilst I would of have like to have given this place a 5/5, and we were going to re-book an extra night, the host is rather rude and fake demanding after she took our money and we stayed there the night, that my partner was not dressed appropriately and "assumed" that even though we dress in our cultural wear, that apparently this was not appropriate at breakfast time and humiliated us in front of all of the other guests. This is called discrimination and racism making us feel like second class citizens when she knew full on well when we arrived as we explained to her and she still took our money, our culture. No, I was never stay here or recommend to anyone. And we would like a refund also posted to the address we gave you. We have stayed in 5 star hotels due to the type of work that we do, and have never had an issue because of our dress wear. Disgusting.

Service and breakfast were great. Rooms are very old but nice. Native birds are too noisy early in the morning :P.

The Blackheath Branch of the CWA of NSW recently held our 80th birthday celebratory lunch at Glenella. Margaret and Rowen were wonderful hosts going out of their way to ensure our guests had a memorable day. Upon arrival we were greeted with a warming cuppa and delicious homemade biscuits which were served in the front room. The lunch was wonderful. We have since received notes from several guests stating how much they enjoyed the food and the old world charm of Glenella.

Absolutely charming. A place to come back to and recommend to others. Margaret and Rowan are such wonderful hosts.

Fantastic service. Comfortable older building renovated nicely. That restaurant attached had very reasonable and delicious food. Very friendly getting and ongoing interaction with Rowan the owner. Loved it.
