Great food, cold drinks, friendly bar staff and there couldn’t be a better location. Usually the domain of international visitors. Now is the time for Aussie travellers to experience this bit of paradise.

Me and my friensld only stayed at base for a couple of nights, but it's been one of our favourite hostels in the whole of Australia! The rooms are directly on the sea and the view is absolutely amazing, but the best part was definitely the staff: on our checkout day we realised we only had 15 minutes to get to the ferry terminal otherwise we wouldn't have been able to catch our bus from Townsville. We asked the reception for help and the lovely Eban stepped up and drove us as quickly as possible to the terminal, and we managed to jump on the ferry with one minute to spare. Service absolutely unmatched anywhere else! Thank you so much for everything, we'll definitely reccomend the hostel to our backpacker friends!

Good 6 bed dorm with great staff and food.

Music is always playing. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My daughter is staying here; was visiting her; she is having a brilliant time here. Highly recommended.

Lovely spot. Cheap drinks at happy hour and great live music. Would recommend.

Wow! What can I say! Base on Magnetic Island is by far the best hostel I have stayed in on my trip up the east coast. They offer great food at a reasonable price and the nightlife is excellent. I especially enjoyed Sex Bomb's Bingo! Would recommend and hope to come back some day myself.

I've finally finished travelling up the east coast of Australia, and I've been to alot of hostels, but Base at Magnetic Island was truly something else. I'm definitely coming back after I've done my farmworks. The island itself was beautiful, and don't get me wrong, the real memory is the bar itself and all the good people! Keep it up guys!

I had the best time at Base Maggy! The staff were great and the hostel itself it's gorgeous! I stayed for 2 nights and really wished I could stay longer!

I stay at base for 3 night and had the best time. It was my favourite place in the east coast. I ordered 2 time the fish tacos during my stay as very good! Recommend! I hope I have chance to come again very soon!

Really nice place. Feel like on a resort. Atmosphere on top. The sunset walk was amazing. Russ was an really nice guide, he made sure everybody had fun and safe. A big tums up for this place.

Favourite place on the east coast! Early in the morning you can watch the sun rise over the sea. Clean and good food! Good night life and events they put on are hilarious! You must go!

Stayed here for 2 nights. One of the best hostels I stayed in Australia! Chill young vibe, a fun activity each night at the bar which makes it easier to meet people. Filled with young travelers. The rooms are spacious and air-conditioned, mattresses are comfortable. There's access from the hostel to the beach as it is seen in one of the pictures I added. Loved it and definitely recommend staying here.

I stayed in one of the private huts here which had an absolutely amazing view straight onto the ocean. The hostel has an amazing atmosphere with pool, bar washing facilities etc. I 100% recommend a trip to magnetic island. Don't pay to ferry a car over there is a bus that circles the whole island with a stop right outside the hostel its so easy to get around. The only reason for this loosing one star was that our hut/room was filthy and for the price paid we could have stayed in a hotel with towels and cleaner facilities but to get the view its worth it. A 5 star would have charged a fortune for this view.

Amazing location and atmosphere. Our room had a superb view of the ocean and all staff were great. However, the cleanliness of our room really ruined our experience. The floor seemed like it had not been swept in weeks, with balls of hair on the floor and a couple of dead lizards in the door frame. The shower let out only a little trickle of water however this was fixed on the last night of our stay (still didn't work great). The cups and cutlery at the restaurant were absolutely filthy. A real shame as the place could be so much better.

Amazing location but that's about it. Very average hostel and the rooms weren't massively clean. Usually I wouldn't complain but for the price I would expect more. The kitchen and pool closed very early. The bar was good though.

Great hostel! The cabins are lovely and clean and the location is great. It takes 30 seconds to walk on the beach and the hostel offers a great range of food and entertainment throughout the day.

Very nice hostel, perfect located near the beach. Has a pool, good toilets and showers, and a fun bar. -1 star for the really really bad mattress though.

We were only here for dinner and it was sensational! I had a coconut mango curry — Yummi! The atmosphere, however, was rather reminiscent of the beer tent (which I am not a fan of), therefore 1 star deduction.

We had a bed bug proplem in our room. They moved us into another room, but half an hour later, there were new residents in that room… And they refused to refund money from previous nights. If you are going to stay at Magnetic island, please stay at Bungalow bay YHA. Otherwise the magnetic island is a awesome place!

Staff were really friendly and the service was spot on. The sunset walk was a nice addition in the evening with a free cup of white wine. The room was a bit tight but it is expected if you stay in a 8bed dorm.

Good fun. Nice rooms in log cabin style. Great pool and outside area for chilling when you've had enough of Magnetic Island activities for the day! Good size kitchen, plenty of equipment.

Base is a party hostel, I think most suited for people around the age of 18-21. Personally I didn't like this place that much, I'm probably getting too old. The room I stayed in was mediocre, AC made a lot of noise. Sanitary is alright, but don't expect too much. A positive thing about this place is that the staff is amazingly nice and can make excellent dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I would not come back again myself, but for others; it just depends on what you're looking for.

Look, it's a reluctant 5 stars. The drinks were cheap. Near perfect Location. Everything was clean. Good outdoors and deck area. Bar Staff were friendly. Group games throughout the night. Pool Tables. Respectful patrons. My only biff was the music was a bit too loud and they don't have subs for people to really get up and dance to. I'd still go back.

All right. It's right on the beach. The rooms are relatively clean. However, the drinks at the bar are quite expensive. The food as well. The evening program is the same every week that wouldn't bother me, but it's very primitive and from 10 o 'clock it's over … After that, there will be no disco after that.
Plus, I find $10$ for the laundry exaggerated … (Wash $5$ (detergent is directed) + $5$ dry (you have no choice, otherwise the laundry falls into the dirt on the clothesline)

Literally on the beach, at night you can walk quite a bit on the beach very quiet. Party place. It's not quiet, it's pata fun enough!

Pretty decent place. Not the cheapest but has a great atmosphere and the drinks and food aren't too expensive. Staff are really nice too.

Staff. Top notch. Entertainment. Ideal for the general age of their visitors and guests. Accommodation. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on as I haven't stayed there for many years, however I do still visit there often. Four stars instead of five. Always leave room for improvement. :)

Only visited here as a diner but wish I had stayed overnight. The place has a great atmosphere and great views of the beachfront from pretty much all the rooms it looks like… Just might need a window it seems. Staff are friendly/unique but always a good thing in my opinion. Where else are you going to find staff that goes out and drinks while wearing a facial?

Best hostel so far on my Australia trip! In the evening is provided for atmosphere, large shower cubicles with mostly warm water except at rush hour, beach on the doorstep, top clean and beautiful rooms (albeit plain) many great places nearby and normal large kitchen with good amenities. Very satisfied, is worth its price!

Were just there for snooch. We were immediately helped by swhe friendly staff further … it was all very clean.

Rooms with great views, but come in by the wooden slats critters! We had a visit from a gecko at night and were able to watch it as it crawled out again. If a gecko comes in, then so does other Krabbelzezg:-) Kitchen was very nice, clearly the backpackers are responsible for keeping this clean, but in my opinion the operator has to take care of the implementation and this does not work!

Very beautifull place just like in paradise. Great island and nice huts. There are good theme evenings and nice partys. Some of the stuff was not the freidnliest but was okay. Do not take the pizza special its bullshit :D.

Overall the experience was good. The night life was fun and the bar staff was incredible. As for the front counter staff Georgia was amazing and friendly but the other girl who helped us was rude and they had messed up our booking (even though we confirmed and 24 hours in advance) separated our friend and made no attempt to rectify it despite their being two empty beds in our room that night. It's unfortunate how one persons actions can make or break your experience.

No BYO, cups and utensils are a bit dirty. Otherwise fresh, with a nice view and good music!

Went over the Easter weekend was fantastic. Great staff, great rooms, the view was to die for. I almost quit my job to permanently live there.
