Reviews of Peraj Guesthouse
At the Peraz guesthouse, the women don't speak any English and my wife and I were really struggling with Google's translation of the menu. Seeing that we were struggling, another guest came over to help us.
He advised us to order one salad because it would be large enough to share. I was going to order a half litre of house wine but he recommomended one of the bottles of wine, "Kallmet Reserve" that he said was a very good price at €18 so I ordered a bottle of this wine. This was a lot more than I'd usually pay for a bottle of wine.
We enjoyed our dinner of salad, roast lamb, potatoes, and grilled vegetables.
When we came to pay, a girl, about 12 years old, said our bill was €58. Without thinking, I handed her two €50 notes but while she was gone to get change I totalled the bill and it came to €28. When she returned, I told her €58 was too much. "Yes, but the wine", she said. "Right, the wine was €18 so the total should be €46. "
She looked at the menu and said that was last year's price. I told her it doesn't matter, I should pay the price on the menu. Then she asked to see the bottle which I was carrying because it was still half full. "That's not the same wine. This wine is €30", she said. She was right that it wasn't the same wine. It was the same vintner but a different bottle. This particular bottle wasn't even listed on the menu.
One of the two women in the kitchen started yelling in Albanian.
We loved the place, the accommodation, the food and the hospitality. During the hot days, we read books and played under the big trees or swam in the nearby waterfall at the main road to Montenegro (the river at the guesthouse was dry in mid-July 2024). Everything was home-made, we loved all the yogurts, sirups, grilled veggies… The family helped us get petrol and took lovely care of us.
