Shalimar Garden is a historic Mughal garden located in the city of Lahore, Pakistan. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century as a gift for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The garden is spread over an area of 80 acres and is divided into three terraces, each with its own unique features.
The first terrace is known as the Farah Baksh, which means 'Bestower of Pleasure'. It is the largest of the three terraces and features a large marble pool in the center, surrounded by fountains and pavilions. The second terrace is called the Faiz Baksh, which means 'Bestower of Goodness'. It is slightly smaller than the first terrace and features a smaller pool with a marble pavilion in the center. The garden is surrounded by high walls and has four gateways, one on each side. The main entrance is through the Lahore Gate, which is located on the eastern side of the garden. The gate is made of red sandstone and features intricate carvings and calligraphy.
The garden is known for its beautiful landscaping and intricate waterworks. The fountains and pools are fed by a canal that runs through the garden, which is supplied by the Ravi River. The garden is also home to a variety of trees and plants, including cypress, pine, and palm trees.
Shalimar Garden is a popular tourist attraction and is visited by thousands of people every year. It has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is considered to be one of the finest examples of Mughal garden design.
