Pavlov's House is a historic building located in the city of Volgograd, Russia. The building is famous for its role in the Battle of Stalingrad during World War II. It was named after Sergeant Yakov Pavlov, who led a group of Soviet soldiers in defending the building against German forces for 58 days.
The building is a four-story residential apartment block made of brick and concrete. It was built in the 1930s and was originally intended to house workers of the nearby tractor factory. The building has a rectangular shape and features a central courtyard. The apartments are accessed through a central staircase and there are balconies on each floor.
During the Battle of Stalingrad, Pavlov's House was a strategic location as it provided a clear view of the surrounding area and was located near a key bridge over the Volga River. The German army launched a fierce attack on the building, but Pavlov and his soldiers managed to hold their ground. They used the building's balconies and windows to fire at the enemy and also dug tunnels to move around the building undetected.
The battle for Pavlov's House was one of the most intense and prolonged of the entire war. The building was heavily damaged and many of its residents were killed or injured. However, the Soviet soldiers managed to hold on until reinforcements arrived and the German army was eventually forced to retreat.
Today, Pavlov's House is a popular tourist attraction in Volgograd. The building has been restored and turned into a museum dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad. Visitors can see the original bullet holes and damage from the battle, as well as learn about the heroic actions of Pavlov and his soldiers. The museum also features exhibits on the history of the city and the war.
