Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is a conservation project located in Bugombe, Uganda. The sanctuary is home to over 50 rescued chimpanzees that have been orphaned or confiscated from illegal trade. The island is situated on Lake Victoria and covers an area of approximately 100 acres.
The sanctuary was established in 1998 by the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (CSWCT) in collaboration with the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC). The main objective of the sanctuary is to provide a safe and natural environment for the chimpanzees to live in and to promote their conservation.
Visitors to the sanctuary can take part in a variety of activities, including chimpanzee feeding, viewing, and care.
