We had afternoon tea here today, it was fantastic. I had to put our booking back, but they were so accommodating, no problems. The food was super and so much of it, we brought some home with us. Can truly recommend this place.

Our daughter got married there in August 2022 it was a fantastic experience from start to finish it was made so special by all the staff, who were attentive and helpful at all times. Guests had traveled from quite to get to the wedding and all agreed it was a lovely venue and had a beautiful day and stay. Thank you and well done Holdsworth House you made my daughters special day definitely one to remember.

We stayed for a wedding from 23.9.22 to 25.9.22. We had a great weekend from start to finish. The receptionist on the friday was so lovely even when I asked daft questions! The dining room staff were great and really accommodating especially Franck. The day of the wedding was fabulous and Amanda was wonderful coordinating everybody and everything. The food was great and so were the waiting staff. Every member of staff I came across were so lovely and polite. I would highly recommend.

Lovely historical hotel. Nice friendly and efficient staff. Lovely grounds. Only drawback was same menu/soup every night. Also Wi-Fi was useless.

I held my daughters bridal shower at Holdsworth House on 3/9/22 — it was fantastic! We had the classic Prosecco afternoon tea — it was beautifully served, delicious and there was plenty of it! The service was excellent thanks to our dedicated member of staff Jordan, he couldn’t of done more for us and was an absolute joy. We were also able to access the room prior to the party to decorate the table and the room. Thanks to everyone at Holdsworth House for a lovely afternoon, but especially to Jordan — you were fab!

My daughter got married here 22nd July it was so lovely the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and organised what a lovely place for wedding pictures everyone was blown away with service and decor highly recommend this place even for a over night stay.

Stunning place brilliant staff amazing beds!

Went with three others a couple of years ago, rooms were good, evening meal poor, we did not get sweet ordered or coffees were told staff had gone home. Breakfast quality not much better. Desk staff not really interested. Would not recommend or go back unless a change of management and staff attitudes and improvement on quality of meals on menu. 1/10

It’s a very nice looking Hotel the staff are very nice and helpful at all times. We have been at my grandsons wedding today and it was fantastic and to help it along the weather was great so the wedding took place out side the gardens are beautiful and the food was first class. We stayed over two night very impressed.

Had the loveliest champagne afternoon tea yesterday. This was a birthday present from my daughters and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, the setting lovely and the customer service was exceptional. Thank you for helping us celebrate in such a lovely way.

Absolutely loved our experience here. We had our wedding here last week and I cannot thank everyone at HH enough. The staff were so attentive on the day and the 18 months leading up to it — whatever you needed they sorted! The building and gardens are so beautiful and I cannot imagine getting married in a more cozy, yet picturesque setting. All of our guests said how fantastic the food was, which is incredibly impressive when cooking for 80+ people! Thank you Holdsworth House for an AMAZING day! 🧡

Great afternoon tea, there were 15 of us and we had a private room, we were well looked after by Frank, who was brilliant, everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything was fresh and home made and the kids loved their special children’s afternoon teas.

My husband and I married here on February 1st 2020. It was just surreal! The staff went above and beyond to make sure our day was exactly how we wanted it to be. Tracey and Liam were absolutely fantastic throughout the day and helped so much especially with little things we completely overlooked in our planning. Claire was an amazing from the moment we booked the wedding, I had lots to ask and she was always so happy to help.
The food here was absolutely delicious and guests constantly complimented the menu and even mention now how great the food was.
We booked exclusive use and I definitely recommend this to anybody planning on getting married here. It was lovely having breakfast with just our guests the next morning. The breakfast was amazing and the scrambled egg. I have no words for.
Just before our wedding we found out we are expecting our first child. We let the staff know and they were just amazing and supportive throughout. We wanted to tell our guests during the announcements and Liam made a lovely drink (that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of) that looked and tasted like alcohol but was in fact alcohol free to make sure guests didn't get suspicious before announcements.
My family and I just want to say a massive thank you again to all the hard work the staff put in during the planning and on our special day.

I and a party of 15 friends had the Christmas three course lunch at Holdsworth House yesterday, 11th December 2019. Every one of us thoroughly enjoyed the meal, it was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was excellent. Thank you and we will definitely be coming again.

The food and service was excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful and very accommodating of dietary requirements. The restaurant is beautifully laid out, we ate in front of the fire which was kept topped up. Lovely and cosy — especially welcome at this time of year.

Never been here before. Till I attended a evening wedding do on friday evening. The place is absolutely beautiful and the staff were fantastic. I had a brilliant with family and friends.

Even with a busy wedding going on, staff were excellent and the young man running the bar represented the very best in customer service. Hes a real credit to the hotel and one of the reasons we hope to come back asap.

Perfect venue for our intimate wedding. The staff couldn’t have been any more attentive and helpful and were on hands to make it a perfect day. I can’t thank everyone enough.

Holdsworth House is a beautiful 16th century house. It has been lovingly extended in keeping with the style of the period. The staff a friendly and extreamly helpful. Each room is different. It's lovely for wedding receptions. The catering is to a high standard. It also allows pets to stay (you are able to eat with them in the bar area which may be small but adequate) would highly recommend to all.

Excellent hotel with very good bedrooms, very helpful and smiley staff. Good restaurant and pub in the old part of the house. Be aware that the bedrooms are all in the new part of the building with the bar and restaurant in the old. Beautiful front garden, excellent for wedding photography. The rooms would benefit from blackout curtains.

We have been very happy with their attention to detail and conduct throughout. Edit: Our wedding was indoors due to rain, that was the only thing that did not go to plan. Our day was managed from start to finish with the Holdsworth House team providing a top class service to both us and our guests, we have had wonderful reports on the venue, food served and hospitality. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and evening events, a big thank you to all involved.

Had afternoon tea here with family and friends. Lovely. Nicely presented and served. Lovely selection of teas too. The Staff were lovely and the surroundings lovely. They also do a child's version, not just a down sized adults portion. Which I thought was a lovely idea, maybe best to check first as for some it may contain too many sugary things for some children. All in all though a lovely afternoon.

Holdsworth house is a lovely little place. We have chosen here for our wedding venue. We can't wait to get married here. The staff are brilliant and the place has such character with well maintained and tidy grounds.

Just left after a celebratory family meal. The food was fair but not quite the standard I might expect for the star rating. The biggest down side and reason for the review is the total lack of customer service. Been told NO to menu choices a number of times from waiting staff which were obviously not wanting to be there and been told to budge that chair in so I can get my arm through was very annoying. Also due to the lack of any service the hotel missed out on at least another £ 100 worth of drinks orders. We were not once asked ' is the food ok? ' ' would we like anything else ' It's a shame really as we live within a stone's throw of what is on first impressions a beautiful venue and could have Had a much nicer experience for half the price at numerous other Halifax restaurants.

I have just attended a fabulous wedding at this venue! The meal was absolutely amazing and plentiful (I had the vegetarian option and they had really thought about the food choices). The hotel is obviously set in beautiful and well maintained grounds, although I can imagine parking could be an issue at times. However, the lack of accessibility for wheelchairs and people with difficulties walking,
or incontinence issues, was quite shocking in this day and age. I understand the building is old and there are logistical issues, but there is no toilet facility available from the wedding dining room that doesn’t have steps? The one available in reception is so far away and with steps, I really don’t know how you’ve managed with anyone in a wheelchair? Secondly, the price of drinks is an absolute shocker! Everyone knows drinks are going to be more expensive at hotel venues, standard, however, £5 for a pint, £11 for 2 cokes and rum and £6 for a coke and lime and soda? It’s beyond extortion and their is absolutely no need. It’s such a shame as the rest of the facilities are spot on. In addition, some of the staff were on the verge of being rude and didn’t seem happy in their job at all (bar area, compare, waiting staff). All in all, it is the memories of a family wedding and the people there that make the day… but it shouldn’t have to fall on that when I can imagine holding a wedding at your venue is quite an expense.

Perfect venue for a family wedding. Little gem I never knew existed on my doorstep. Its a must for a visit. Interesting building with gardens galore and historical nooks and crannies to relax in. Ideal for a full day of wedding guests to wander around. The Courtyard was the best overspill area ever for the evening "do" on a lovely Summer evening.

My daughters wedding was held here on 4th June 2018 and what a truly amazing day it was.
I cannot thank the manager Chris, Tracey and the rest of the team enough for making the whole stay and especially the wedding day, an experience we will all never forget.
I would especially like to thank the chef's. The food was incredible and despite having to deal with, vegetarians, vegans, coeliacs and lactose intolerances, each course came out impeccably presented and tasted phenomenal. And if all this wasn't enough, our furry family (2 dogs) were made to feel so welcome and were able to be part of the whole day… they even had sausages for breakfast and as many doggie biscuits a they wanted… thank you all x.

Me and my husband stayed for two nights, and we think it was absolutely beautiful and they even spoiled our Labrador Ben he was even asked how many sausages he would like for his breakfast the staff were absolutely amazing and nothing was to much trouble. We Will definitely be going again soon.

This is lovely hotel. I've stayed there on business. They have some delicious dishes on the menu and a wonderful breakfast selection including poached eggs or scrambles eggs with salmon and spinach etc. The rooms are all different — decorated differently. Personally I don't like the Old England decor with frilly curtain valances and old 4 poster beds with canopies which they have in some of the rooms. They have a couple of suites decorated in more modern chic style with TV area, large bathroom with separate shower cubicle and a bath tub. These were more to my liking and very comfortable. Disappointments: it's a pet friendly hotel so some rooms smell of wet dog. There are some very creaky floors so light sleepers might struggle to sleep through the night. Also I fell ill during one of my stays and had to wait for my prebooked afternoon train. They charged me £20 for late checkout for the extra hour I needed to stay in the room.

We have just had a delicious Sunday lunch at Holdsworth house, the staff were excellent as always the food was of very hight quality and we really enjoyed ourselves. They were also very baby friendly which was fantastic! We will be back!

We went for afternoon tea on the 3rd April. Staff were incredibly welcoming, very professional and customer service was fantastic. The food we were served was delicious and well presented. The building itself was beautiful and we are no evwn considering getting married here.

Attended a wedding here — it is a lovely venue for a wedding with some perfect photography opportunities. Staff were polite and helpful, but we were told if we wanted to check in early we would have to pay extra — not what I would have expected as a wedding guest. The room was nicely presented, with a comfortable bed. The breakfast was nice. We had room 29 which unfortunately is opposite a fire door so you can hear lots of coming and going on the corridor, the small window in the room has a blind but as there is a security light in the carpark this needs a blackout blind, the shower pressure was terrible and the temperature of the water wasn't hot enough. All in all a reasonable stay — a few minor issues to sort which would definitely mean a higher score.

Exquisite food in lovely surroundings. We've just enjoyed a cracking meal at Holdsworth House celebrating an anniversary. The food isn't cheap, but that's not to say it isn't good value. Every single mouthful of the beautifully cooked and presented dishes are there to be savoured. From the tender monkfish on bed of curried sweet potato and chickpeas, to the fabulously flavoursome haunch of venison. To cap it all, a tangy yet indulgent marmalade and whisky croissant and butter pudding. If I have one niggling complaint, it would be the lack of bitter choices. There are so many interesting local microbreweries to call on, it seems a missed opportunity to not stock a selection, instead you're 'treated' to two choices, one being John Smiths… Hmmmm. That aside, a glorious meal, well worth a visit.

Went for an afternoon tea for mums 80th birthday… Everything and I mean everything was spot on… the place was warm as the open fire was lit… the staff were very attentive and the drinks & food amazing! The entire visit was truely delightful. We would highly recommend a visit… We will return for sure xx.

A really beautiful traditional hotel just outside halifax. Lovely rooms and a fantastic evening meal. Great sleep and a very good breakfast. Will definitely be going back.

Went with friends for afternoon tea and it was lovely. We had a choice of sandwiches, sweet things, and the most amazing scones. I'm not a huge scone fan but I could quite easily have had their scones on each of the 3 tiers of the cake stand :-) The staff were very friendly and attentive. Drinks at the bar were very pricey but there is a really good selection and it was lovely sitting in easy chairs around a roaring fire with our drinks. The house itself is beautiful, so much character, and lovely gardens too. I'll definitely be back (and not just for the scones! ).

Strange experience really. When we arrived the staff were very attentive but as the evening wore on not attentive at all. The food was reasonable but unimaginative and not overly hot. Long waits between every course and we had to remind the waiter that we'd ordered coffee. We waited for 15 minutes after we had clearly finished the meal for a waiter to attend us then had to wander around the reception area to find someone (anyone) to get the bill. Then had to repeat the process to ask yet again. We waited ten minutes for our coats then they couldn't find them so we had to identify them ourselves. We left wondering whether we would return _ probably not! This restaurant has clearly rested on it's distant laurels. Someone needs to be reminded that you're only as good as your last review. Shame really, sad little place.

Romantic setting offering great food and drinks. We had our works Christmas Party here again. All our food arrived as ordered, tasty and above all else hot. My of criticism was the waiting staff were really full of the joys. We will be booking again next year.

Honestly and truthfully this hotel is stunning (especially at Christmas) the food is stunning, history seaps from every crevice and the staff go above and beyond to ensure your stay is perfect — I will definitely stay again.

Was attending a wedding at Holdsworth House and the venue inside is great. However the cost of drinks is appalling and a disgrace for what is effectively an old house on the edge of an industrial estate in Illingworth. My advice is to take your own drinks and don't get ripped off by these disgusting prices especially when they have you there as a guest of a wedding party etc…

A bit of a curate's egg experience. Stunning building, once you find the front of it. Rear entrance a bit understated. Pleasant interior but dark, as expected with a house of this age. Room had pleasant interior fittings, but was a touch on the small side and was built into the roof so one-third of the room was restricted by height. Velux window only, so not light. Shower only. Noisy wedding group next door could be easily heard enjoying themselves. Breakfast very good but minor requests like coffee and toast were forgotten/overlooked. Drinks in the bar expensive.

They have ridiculous prices at the bar for wedding guests. Fairly average bottle of Malbec? £55. It's a four star hotel but they are charging 5 star prices. Beautiful venue but it leaves a sour taste when the evening has cost so much.

The rooms were clean and so was the hotel throughout. Breakfast is continental and yorkshire fry up. Although nice a little greasy. A 3 course evening meal will cost you around £30 to £50 per person. The food is lovely. A pint was £4.50. Although this hotel has a nice charm to it I would not stay again. I was board within the hotel and because of its location. Most of the guests were age 55 upwards and well off id say. Also there is nothing in the local area within walking distance. We did dress up very smart on the evenings I think a more casual look would not fit in there. Halifax centre is around a 6 mile drive and has loads of bars and restaurants to choose from. There is a gym called treadmill gym 3mins drive down the hill. It is £4 pay as you go. There is nothing wrong with this hotel at all! It is just too quiet for me.

I am rating on the quality of food and the beautiful building, for these Holdsworth House clearly deserves 5 stars. I did not like the waitresses' attitude or their mistakes, but I can live with these as everything else was fantastic. And the afternoon tea I've seen in other tables looks like heaven.

I visited today with my mum, sister and grandma for afternoon tea. The afternoon tea came with a choice of 9 teas. 4 different types of sandwiches — salmon and cream cheese, cucumber and cream cheese, smoked chicken and rocket and cheese and pickle. 4 different sweets — lemon meringue pie, chocolate and orange macaron, coconut, raspberry and almond cake and 2 types of scone — plain and fruit served with jam and cream. All the food was delicious and our service from Rob was impeccable.

This a gorgeous historical house. Beautiful gardens and court yards. I attend my friends wedding reception and just loved all the features wood panels; stained glass windows, the Court Yard. For me it has a timeless elegence and can't wait to vist again. Staff were incredably helpful and made me feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble.

We got married at Holdsworth House on Tuesday 29th August, what a stunning venue! We had a perfect day and would not change a thing. It was everything we imagined it would be and more! The venue is beautiful and ALL of the staff were lovely, attentive and couldn't do enough for us. Not just the day of the wedding, but also the days surrounding. We used their recommended make up artist Sharon Louise, who did an amazing job and also their recommended DJ — Jonathon who we also couldn't fault! Anyone considering booking Holdsworth House — we cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you for everything!

From the moment we walked through the door the whole place hugs you. Exceptional staff, especially the restaurant manager who ensured we had everything we needed, the restaurant staff were attentive, friendly and professional. Now for the food … awesomely amazingly wonderful … not sure thats remotely grammatical but who cares … we had an awesome meal and will definitely return again. Thanks to all concerned :) I have recommended you to at least 30 people today.

Holdsworth House Hotel is a hidden gem in Halifax. We were invited to a wedding at this beautiful venue. From start to finish it was wonderful. The staff were all first class and we had a fantastic day.

Went for a mothers day lunch with my mum, wife & mother in law. Ambience was excellent, service attentive without being over the top. Food was good, 3 courses for less than £30 each, I'd have happily spent more than that. Only slight negative, towards the end of the afternoon, when pouring the last of the carafe of water we noticed it was dirty. Not slightly smudged, truly filthy. Black and brown bits floating around, and the whole thing, on reflection, looked very cloudy. Other than that, brill!

We attended a wedding which wascgrrat. Good food, well organised and gorgeous gardens to explore.

I came for aftrernoon tea on sat the 5th March. very disappointing. The Sandwiches were dry at one end and soggy at the other. Both the tea and the coffee were very weak and had not taste. Had to send the coffee back and ask for another tea bag for the tea pot. There was rhubarb pan au cota. Though very nice was not pan au cota it was more set like a jelly then soft like custard. There was scones, these were very dry and a fairy cake that the sponge tasted and felt like it had been made days ago. Can't say there was anything really nice about it at all. I get the concept that the afternoon tea was surposed to be traditional, but thought is would have been better to have matching plates, cups and saucers than a mixture of old china the looks like it comes from a jumble sale. For the price charge this was deffernatley not worth the money and would not recomend to anyone.

Didn't stay in the hotel, we had a Christmas party here. The 'ham hock' starter is basically spam with a tuna texture to it. I'm not posh enough to know what it's supposed to taste like so we'll leave it there. The beef main meal was very nice indeed, although the Yorkshire pudding was rubbery. Excellent portion sizes which was a good contrast to other pretentious places. Clementine dessert was rubbish. Nice presentation but it tasted like snow with no real flavour to it. Having said all that. The venue is really nice and I enjoyed myself.

Set away from the main road in its amazing gardens is this brilliant place. We had our wedding there, which went brilliantly well. The rooms were comfy and the staff were fantastic. Highly recommended.

My partner booked for me for a christmas present as I'm a fan of the TV series 'the last tango in halifax'. The hotel is warm friendly lovely and charming and we had a lovely relaxing over night stay there. The hotel is very well run the staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is to much trouble for anything you need. There are lots of rooms in the hotel with nooks and crannies. The gardens outside are beautiful and very well kept. We ate in the restaurant we had food from the a la carte menu which was delicious. And very well presented. The waitress was friendly and warm and helpful. Our room was immaculate the bathroom was spotless. The room even had an iron and ironing board. Hairdryer. everything we needed was in the room. The hotel was lovely and warm throughout which was great as it was minus 4 outside. We turned the radiator down in our room as it was more than warm enough. We had the Yorkshire breakfast in the morning which was absolutely delicious. And cooked perfectly. We were spoilt for choice. Parking was good we just drover straight in and parked near the entrance. Our stay here was perfect and we enjoyed it so much. We will definetly be booking to go again soon.

We've photographed lots of weddings at Holdsworth House. It's always a pleasure to work here. The staff are always helpful and accommodating. The grounds are great for photos plus we've eaten here for with a few weddings and the food was superb. We're back shortly to photograph another wedding here so looking forward to that.

Very good quality hotel. Nice but very snug rooms, great staff, and a beautiful building and gardens. Prices are the only downside, and the weddings mean the carpark is often full. Vegetarian menu is limited, but advance notice and flexible kitchen staff mean you can get something to your taste.

The General Manager made me cry when I complained so I wouldn't recommend it and if you ask for the owner he tells you that she will "annihilate you". Nice. Hated every second here — teeny room, dirty, average food. Plenty of better places to spend your cash.

We have photographed a number of weddings at Holdsworth House over the years and have always found it a great place to work. The staff are always hard working and look after everyone. The food is good whenever we have eaten there and the surrounding grounds are lovely. The place is very clean and cosy and always a joy to work at whatever the weather.

I photographed a wedding on 9 August 2013 at Holdsworth House, and took full advantage of the beautiful gardens, and character-full house. The staff did a wonderful job in ensuring everything went smoothly, and that the food was served on time, speedily, to all the guests. The bedrooms are quite small, but in keeping with the original design of the property, but we still found room for the bride and three bridesmaids, plus my young assistant, all in one room, while the bride was getting ready. I would definatley not return to this hotel, food was inedible, rooms were dirty, when I attempted to talk to member of staff about it, I was greeted with a huff and what im quite sure was an obsenity under muttered breath. I would not waste my money on this so called prestigious hotel. Disappointed.
