Staff were absolutely fabulous when my nanna was taken ill whilst hsving a meal even let her rest in one of the accomodation suites till she felt better. Whole team were brilliant. Food was great aswell. The manager on shift couldn't of done more and our gratitude goes to him and the rest of the staff.

We went as a couple, plus dog for Sunday lunch; the last day of eating outside. The food, surroundings and service were great, they have gone to a lot of trouble to enable a great dining experience. We’re on holiday and will definitely return before heading home. Highly recommended.

Roaring log fire.
Great food — evening meal & breakfast.

Dog friendly through & through.
Only downside was we wished we had booked for 2night!

Accommodation is lovely, food is fantastic, beer list a bit lacking but wine list is very good.

I’d highly recommend this amazing place. Me, my wife and our dog stayed here twice in a week as a half way stop on the way to Scotland and we all felt welcome. The staff were lovely and friendly, the food was amazing and the accommodation was beautiful. I’d definitely be coming back.

Firstly they catered for my dog in their luxurious well appointed garden rooms.
We enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere and were so happy that they catered for disabled guests.
Tom enjoyed sitting outside the apartment drinking delicious tea.
And all the meals were fantastic.

We called here on our way back to our rented cottage at Knayton, the food was outstanding, staff real friendly and informative, going again later this week before our holiday ends.

We came yesterday in a group with our TR Car Club. There were around 30 of us, and the place was busy, but although we had pre-ordered all the meals we were waiting quite some time. However when the food eventually arrived it was lovely, most of us had the Sunday roast, I had the pork which came with an enormous Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings, there was so much I couldn’t manage it all, and certainly not a pudding. However, I think at £15 for one course it was quite expensive so needed to be excellent, which it was. Didn’t need any more food the rest of the day!

Just wanted to say thank you for giving my husband — who is cycling from Berwick to London — a glass of water (with lemon and ice no less! ) His water supply ran out while cycling through the North York Moors and there were no shops along the way, so this small act of kindness means a lot to him! Someday we will return the favour by paying you a visit :) Thank you!

Location is amazing, food very good but a bit pricey. Lovely building though decor and fixtures a little dated.

Very nice meal with my wife for our anniversary. Food was served quickly and it was hot. Reasonable prices. What a lovely vista from the conservatory.

Called in for breakfast on return leg to Durham. Situated in the centre of a quiet village, it's an ideal stop off if you're in the area. A short breakfast menu but food was excellent. Looking forward to going back.

Ordered well done beef — when it came it was so rare that a good vet could have resuscitated it. Sent it back and it reappeared minutes later after what seemed to be a spell in the microwave, which left it so tough I could not cut it. Prior to this we were brought two tiny pieces of bread (one small slice cut in half) and some butter etc:, we had to ask for extra bread in order to use the dips. Ordered treacle sponge and was Informed no treacle, but sticky toffee available. A waitress later appeared and told me there was no custard. Would I have cream. Another waitress came and asked if I would have ice cream. — whilst we considered this a waitress appeared with some pudding and ice. Cream, which. I accepted. Needless to say the whole portion of meat is now wrapped in foil for the dog. — the most expensive dinner he has had. It would have been nice if the chef/manager had been informed by staff and had come out to discuss the matter.

Honestly one of the best pubs I've ever eaten in. It's not cheap but the food is fantastic for the price and the service is great.

Recommended to us and have to say not disappointed! Beautiful pub, oldie worldly but bang up to date with service, food, drinks and atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and such good value for money. Grounds are superb with beautiful views over North Yorkshire. Outside bedrooms in modern buildings and the bonus is the pub is dog friendly. Would have no hesitation in recommending a meal/stay here.

Absolutely brilliant service once again by Anjelica and colleagues. The food is piping hot and presentation beautiful, I have eaten in some decent places but I would recommend The Carpenters and the Garden rooms are beautiful.

Started off badly. Asked for a pint which came totally under measure. Was told to go find a table then come back when surely they should show us to our table. Ordered fish and chips and the tarter sauce simply tasted of vinegar. Chicken breast was the first one I've ever had with a bone in it. Also the place looked rather dirty.

Come here often as we have a caravan just down the road. The 7 till 7 menu is fantastic value and we'll worth it staff very good and place is to die for keep up the good work.

I took my wife for her Birthday lunch. The staff where welcoming, the food and drink was excellent. When the staff realised it was my wife's Birthday they organised a special dessert with candles. An altogether great experience! Many thanks.

3.5 stars really. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The beer was excellently kept and a there was a nice choice of real ales. The food is the problem, being very like the curate's egg — good in parts. The pork terrine had almost no herbs/seasoning and had big lumps of gristle in it, and was fairly bland. The pheasant spring rolls were excellent, but the roasted beetroot salad with blue cheese and pear puree was appalling. The beef was far too rare for most people, but very tasty. The sliced turkey had BONES in it, which is unacceptable. The Yorkshire puddings were a crime against humanity, being crunchy, hard and tasteless; they were worse than the Aunt Bessies abominations you get in supermarkets. The vegetables were plentiful and varied, well cooked and tasty, especially the sprouts; though the roasted baby sprouts looked revolting, they tasted fine. The puddings were universally first class. The chef needs to pay more attention to the seasoning of his dishes and to learn to make proper Yorkshire puddings, especially in a Yorkshire pub. There's lots of promise here, but some areas need attention if it's to be up with the leaders in this region.

Apart from the street frontage, it must have changed a lot since someone described it as a "traditional British pub". More like a gastro-pub, looking like it sells more wine than beer; one of a chain called Provenance Inns, with corporate meeting rooms, motel-style accomodation, a very professional web site, and a "philosophy". There are a lot of restaurant floor staff, very attentive, and the prices reflect all this, with main dishes in the £13-£30 bracket per head. In a village somewhat further off the main road than you might expect from the sign there, such that I began to think I had gone the wrong way. Very nice, but not really my style.

Turned up at 11.30, as this is the opening time quoted on their web site. No sign of life at 11.40. Phoned the pub from outside. The land lady opened the inner door, unlocked the porch and went back in. Not welcoming at all. Our party was of 11 so you would have thought they could use that sort of trade. The land lady continued to be less than warm. The food was good. We had no problems there. When the bill came we were over charged by about 10% (by which I mean it was not just and odd coffee added on). Again mistakes happen. My problem was the way the landlady dealt with it. There was no apology, not even a recognition that they had made a mistake! We will not go back.
