Fantastic place, the food is amazingly good, local fresh produce, great service and what a lovely building and atmosphere. No fuss or pretentious, everything was superb. Very ample portions without the high cost. Would recommend 100% and can’t wait for my next visit.

Very welcoming staff. The best fish & chips ever, & the cakes in the bakery look amazing, we need to purchase some next time we visit, ooh & I love to be able to take my little dog 🐶 there, the staff loved her.

Wanted to do 3 peaks for my 40th. See this place had rooms. Wow very professional establishment. The staff are friendly and great and the food was amazing. Gonna come back maybe not for the challenge.

Visited on Friday night. Busy but no great delay for food. The lamb shank was fantastic…meat just fell off the bone. My husband had the ribs and commented how delicious they were. The chocolate & salted caramel tart for dessert was to die for! Also can I just say how fab your waiter with the blonde curly hair was. Thank you!

Superb food from The Game Cock this evening. Home cooked 'ready meals' — incredibly tasty Lamb Ragout and Gratin Potatoes, and my wife had a delicious Fish Pie. The coffee and walnut cake and white chocolate choux buns we had earlier were also excellent. We look forward to visiting properly when you re-open — thank you!

Had a great night at The Game Cock. A beautiful meal with excellent service followed by a very comfortable night in a lovely room and then a hearty and tasty breakfast the following morning. Just what we needed.

Celebrated moving my precious piano into my Cumbrian home with dinner at our favourite pub, The Game Cock. Fabulous food, great service and a relaxing experience. And we even took some scrumptious patisserie home with us! There was a lot of food envy going on at our table, but no worries — we’ll be back to try out more of the menu soon! Thanks to all the staff who were so lovely and friendly, and to the arrangements which made us feel safe dining out in this weird COVID world.

Stumbled upon this gem of a pub whilst out for a walk, fantastic find, very welcoming.

It's so friendly and they go out far beyond a pub to please the customers with all they do. Its so central to lovely walks.

Fantastic French cuisine and great service! The perfect place to eat and drink after a 13 mile hike.

Just spent 2 nights at this great inn. The bedrooms are well equipped and very comfortable. The staff are exceedingly friendly, helpful and efficient. The bar is buzzing with both locals and visitors. The food is exceptional with special menus on different days and a takeaway menu too. Would highly recommend this place.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, cosy bar and then you discover the amazing French food! Very authentic French cuisine, deep rich flavours. Some classics and great specials. Bread and butter was great too! I just wish food was served on plates, not the terracotta pots. Minor complaint though. Worth a visit!

We had a lovely drink there one day and enjoyed it a lot (5 stars) — friendly staff and great ambience. Next day we went for dinner when it was very busy and food was very very slow (1 hr wait from order to food) and very average (2 stars). Hopefully better on a quieter night?.

Love the Game Cock right in the heart of the village of Austwick. We have camped locally for four years and always visit this pub. We sometimes eat here too which is a real treat. Good quality food with a French twist available as is the more reasonably priced specials pizza, fish and chips, burgers and a traditional Sunday roast.

We only visited for a pint or two on a walk, so can't comment on the food, but it looked very good. There was a small selection of real ale but Wainwright and Hobgoblin are a bit run of the mill these days. There are so many small breweries around with excellent ales.

Absolutely incredible food. Hubby and I enjoyed a 3 course French inspired meal and it was the best food we've had in years. If only we lived closer we'd be there weekly. Unfortunately back in Melbourne now and so a little bit far! It will definitely be our first place to visit next time we're back in the UK!

Great pub. Good food and beers with some novel presentation. Having a bit of teething trouble with a new IT system but hope they crack it soon. Will definitely return next time we're in the area. Update 2018: IT teething troubles are sorted and the food even better. Plus really good value. Staff very attentive. All good.

Lovely old pub with good beer and nice atmosphere. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent but the service was very slow.

Great little pub, very welcome after a 14m walk! I didn't eat but the restaurant looked worth coming back for.

The Game Cock has a French chef and lots of interesting French dishes on the menu, alongside the usual burgers and pies. Also nice home made pizzas to satisfy the kids. We enjoyed our meal here and the service was warm and friendly.

A real gem of a place. We went here on a Sunday after a walk in the hills. We were warmly welcomed by both the bar staff and the waitresses. The food was outstanding, especially for the price. We had beef roasts and we both agreed it everything was absolutely delicious. One of the best meals I've had in a while, and it was only £10 for the main. The dessert was top notch too. I kept hearing the kitchen staff saying "Yes, Chef! ", which I think shows that they are working at a level above most pubs (and in fact most restaurants these days! ). I also noticed that the pub purports to do "English and French" cuisine. The menu certainly seemed to reflect that. Cannot recommend this place enough, and will certainly be back!

Amazing food. Plenty of vegetarian options. Beautifully cooked and presented. Great atmosphere, no intrusive music, just happy diners! Quirky layout, with lots of private corners for quiet conversations. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Great beer!

Loved my dinner and stay at the Game Cock Inn. The pub is warm, welcoming and has a great atmosphere. The food was delicious! Especially recommend the mushroom crostini starter. Thoroughly enjoyed our Prosecco and mulled wine which was served by very friendly staff. My room was lovely and very comfortable. In the freezing weather, I was delighted that it was nice and warm. Really enjoyed my stay and honestly can't recommend the Game Cock enough — a beautiful pub in a beautiful location!
