This is an old hotel that does not have much in terms of any entertainment or shopping in the area. However, as a younger traveler with no kids, I would stay here again. If you are budget conscious this hotel is worth it. The biggest drawback was that the rooms were not air-conditioned and had an "old" smell. However, there was a fan that I placed in the window which helped a little. The room, bedding and towels were clean. The all-you-can-eat dinner buffet was decent.

For the price the hotel is acceptable, dated and dirty. Unfortunately the biggest let down is simply the staff. Untrained, bad mannered and unhelpful. A bar man that is rude, doesn't communicate and no please or thank you, and that's not to include the poorly stocked bar. Bar menu limited and stupidly I ordered one of their specials… fish and chips. The fish was so far overcooked, cheap and with no body or taste. If your looking for a cheap night before flying off to Gatwick then this is the place, if your looking for a night away for work or pleasure… Think again.

The words "transit camp" come to mind in describing this location. It was once a lovely old mansion, and some of that remains. There is good wood panelling and well preserved plasterwork. At some point someone built a long extension of basic rooms on one end, added a bar and a restaurant and at that point it was frozen in time. Not much evidence of maintenance. However the linens were good and spotlessly clean and the staff polite and friendly. The bar food was edible. Should you need an emergency night near Gatwick, this will do very nicely. Be aware, however, that you need to take a £9 taxi ride between hotel and airport.

Stayed overnight and had a very enjoyable stay, staff friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable and room neat and tidy with bathroom and TV. The dinner and breakfast we paid for were very good and represented good value for money as they were both buffet style.

Hotel, staff and equipment very run down and worn out. Staff seem so fed up and the barman is the modern day equivalent of basil faulty! Rooms are adequate. Food is cheap and cheerful. Recommend as a cheap airport hotel but not as a romantic get away. Needs a little tlc everywhere.

We stopped over night then went to Gatwick to fly out it's good for that purpose. The taxi company that use is top class. Will use again.

Cheap place to park at Gatwick. We paid £77 for one weeks parking including one nights stay. Great value, smallish rooms but clean. Noisy as its near the runway, but you soon get used to it. Well worth using…

Hotel near Gatwick airport. Rooms and bathrooms were clean and tidy although the furniture was a little 70's in style. There was only a skylight in my room and no window, but the skylight let plenty of light in. The TV's in the rooms were old CRT ones and I imagine younger people being amazed at them! The bar is good and well stocked and serves food that's Ok. The breakfast buffet is impressive with a good range of tasty food. You can eat enough to fill you up for most of the day.

Was brought here after cancelled flight. Cheap hotel in the middle of nowhere. Staff very unwelcoming and didn't allow us to use phones. Even from the room one can't get an outside line. Breakfast disappointing. My room had a pointless skylight (enough windows already), unshielded, which meant it was flooded with light from 5am making it impossible to sleep. Apalling furniture in the hall. Filthy backyard with hundreds of cigarette butts on the ground (can't they afford ashtrays? ) and rat traps.

First room we were given had not been cleaned. So returned to the reception who immediately gave us another room. The new room was large, clean and quite warm. But a good place to rest before going to gatwick airport.

It is what it is. A dated hotel with a good restaurant and bar. We were in a tiny room with an old square tv. Good for a stay before a flight from Gatwick and they do a stay and park for you and your car.

Simple but nice. Stayed in one of the newer rooms so it felt clean and smart but didn't have much character as the rest of the building did. Breakfast was very good.

I don't know if I've ever been to a more peculiar hotel… — The rooms are pokey, but not uncomfortable, you have everything you need, but not one thing more. — The hallways are so rambling and bizarre that we came across two groups of teenagers with compasses doing their DofE. — The staff aren't rude, they're simply indifferent to the fact that you exist. — Do not plan to eat there, there are superb pubs nearby which are categorically worth it. The buffet offered is both overpriced and deeply depressing. I genuinely don't know what rating to give, the price was fair but I have no idea if we'd return. Not bad if you need to leave your car during your holiday and don't mind a brief foray down the rabbit hole.

3 stelae for poor connection of Tel. No more free Wi-Fi.

The hotel is in the middle of the countryside, the area is quiet and pretty. The hotel is large, the reception nice, wooden and with fireplace. The rooms are simple but the bed is big and good. But he service… Each one worse. The girl at the front desk when we arrived didn't say a good night, directly asked "Check in? " It was pretty dry.
Breakfast was pretty average, but please remove the silver paper and the plastic paper from the food trays, it looks so ugly and so crappy!
When we went to hire him breakfast we were not wanted to charge with card, they said we could get cash at the front desk and they didn't have the card machine, but it was a lie, they had it in a drawer and then they took it out. All very strange. At the end you pay for breakfast directly at the reception.

The only good thing about this hotel was the free Wi-Fi and even it was not at the top.

Cheap and cheerful. Friendly and helpful. Good place to leave your car while starting a holiday in a relaxed Manor.

I stayed here for one night. The receptionist was aloof and I didn't feel welcomed. I was pleased to have a room at short notice having become stranded by adverse weather conditions. I entered the room allocated. It felt cold, but as I was tired decided to have a bath to warm myself up and then snuggle into bed. I soon shot out of bed with cramp! The bed was cold and I was unable to warm up. Every time I got cramp in my feet I put on another article of clothing. I ended up wearing three layers of clothing in bed. I also put the quilt from the other bed on and the two blankets from the wardrobe. I was still cold. I therefore decided to drink a cup of tea. Whilst the kettle boiled I put on my scarf and cost. After drinking my tea I then managed to snuggle down in bed with my coat and scarf still on. Although I was very tired I only slept for 2 hours and could not leave the hotel quick enough the following morning. I was stranded at Gatwick for another 4 days. I donor recommend this hotel at all.

Value for money, convenient parking close to Gatwick, taxi transfer only £9 each way. Watch out for the pot holes on the public roads on the approach to this location. (Feb 2018)

The hotel restaurant was nice (no complaints with the choice of food), the car parking service was good & cheap, & the grounds it's situated in were very pleasant. However the hotel itself could do with a lot of improvements. The bedrooms (& bathrooms) were like ice, it was literally freezing in those rooms even with the heating on it was still cold & uninviting. Check the wardrobe for a spare blanket (you'll need it) & pillows. The cleanliness could do with major improvements too, there were cobwebs everywhere. There was also a lot of noise from airplanes, but its to be expected being so close to the airport. If we ever stay again it will be because of convenience alone.

Ideal stop over for early morning flight from Gatwick. Comfortable rooms and good food. Very reasonable prices. Recommended.

It was just right for what we needed. A bed for the night and airport run in the early morning which they arranged for us. They also have a restaurant but we didn't arrive until late evening so didn't try the food.

Super value lovely building pleasant helpful staff, would certainly recommend it. Restaurant very reasonable. Don't all flock there want space next time we go.

The hotel is very handy for Gatwick airport, rooms are pleasant and clean, bed comfortable with on suite bathroom and tea making stuff. Food is very good, self service breakfast and carvery evening meal all u can eat. Locally there is nothing, nearest pub is at least a mile, but the hotel has a bar which is reasonably priced for London.

This was our 4th stay. When we get to The Russ Hill we feel our holiday begins. Good value for money. Rates vary on length of stay and time of year. Hotel is clean. The beds comfortable. You can have a three course buffet meal or bar meal. Kitchens usually close around 10pm. The car is parked safely whilst away and there is a good reliable taxi service from hotel to airport and back. The Hotel staff book your taxi for the following day.

Visited on business. I found it totally accomodating with value for money, pleasant, friendly and polite staff. Room was spotless and some of the older period features were stunning. Have to say all round good stay and would not hesitate to return. Many thanks to all the staff and wishing continued success.

I am giving it 1 star because 0 is not an option. Our party booked 4 rooms and 3 of them ended up being designated smoking rooms. Needless to say, we asked if they could be changed and a very rude and unhelpful receptionist pretty much told us to get lost (and this is a lot nicer). One of our friends ended up leaving, despite having paid for the room six months in advance. This hotel is a dirty relic and even if the rooms had been non-smoking they still would have been grubby and poorly furnished, with really uncomfortable beds. Please, please, save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else.

This hotel is in need of major investment. Decor is very very tired to the point it looks dirty. Food in bar is below average but drinks fairly priced. The maze of corridors to rooms give an indication of what the room will be like. Rooms were again very very tired with scruffy looking walls and decor. Bedroom furniture a mishmash of old, chipped and scratched. Bathroom very dim due to lightsaving bulbs and cheap shower curtain that loves to hug you as it's that close to you. The long stay car parking is basically chaos as people find a space anywhere to park including on all of the grass verges. The staff are very helpful at the hotel but I would only stay again as an absolute last resort.

A dated hotel. £16 taxi fare from airport. But our room was clean. Staff helpful. Ordered a taxi for the next t morning which was only £9 back to Gatwick, but was 15 mins late. Some other guest had been waiting over 1/2 hour for their taxi to arrive.

Friendly, helpful staff. Budget accommodation. Some rooms very small and decor tired but clean and everything you need is provided. Hotel has character. Buffet meal exceptional value. Ideal for Gatwick. Taxi service to airport excellent.

The most basic hotel you can get in the area. Once a charming private villa (1915), now a decadent and shabby hotel. Friendly staff can't help the fact the hotel is falling apart… Needs a complete refurbishment.

Old and Dirty loooong. After cancelling the Vueling flight, you have sent all passengers here.

Easy to find. Perfect for a stop over before an early flight AND somewhere to leave the car. Unbeatable price for doing so. Cheaper than most places charge just to keep the car! Room was old and small, but you essentially get what you pay for. Being linked to a Taxi company offering a fixed rate was also a nice touch.

The hotel looks pretty impressive on the outside, however inside it's very dated looking like something from the 70's, wood paneling, large paintings and creaking floors. My room was small, no windows, but perfectly comfortable and clean and the bed was fine. I may have struggled if it was warmer as I could see no way of cooling it down. Bathroom again was small but clean. The price for the night was very reasonable, I didn't eat there, but the restaurant was very busy. Checking in an out was straight forward and staff pleasant. All in all good value for a one night stay.

Stayed here prior to going on holiday; hotel was okay. Service was fab; sorted out an additional parking space for us. Food was average, it did the job. The two rooms we had were small and didn't have windows. The night we stayed was extremely hot and the lack of windows or air con resulted in an uncomfortable nights sleep. But the price was great and it was convenient to the hotel. Plus the cheap taxi fares through the hotel helped also!

Nice as a place, a nice hotel but it is far from everything, in addition it has inside a kind of pud but at 10pm it throws you out so even for its restaurant does not offer many varieties to dine always if you like things boiled and sweet, because of its awkward location you should always call a taxi if you are at the price of 9 pound fini à Gatwick with them or have your own car. The staff very friendly, the rooms varied a lot, ask if smoking a room for smokers.

The family room here needs a good clean; cobwebs on the ceiling; needs a good vacuuming, dusty edges, very dated furniture, damp and loose ceiling panels in bathroom and black mould by sink. The walls between the rooms are paper thin and I'm still awake listening to the people next door who won't shut up. I've been in better Forces barracks. Beds are 'squeaky' and the double bed is very small and I'm only 5'7". Only 1 pillow each. The staff were put off by a guest causing grief in front of me in queue so not the friendliest, but efficient and organised us well and taxi booked for us early. Buffet looked plentiful but I didn't eat here.

I called to make the reservation and was told we could pay on departure, this was not the case. On arrival we were asked to pay the bill before seeing the room. If I had known what the room was going to be like I would have found somewhere else to sleep for the 4 nights we were in the area. The room was old and dated, very small for a family room. My daughter was in a travel cot as requested, however the room was so small that there was no way to manover around it. When I called up to book I specifically asked if there was enough room for all 3 of us. I was assured there was. I also asked for the other remaining bed to be taken out as it was just fold up bed and we could do with the extra space with a young toddler. I was told this was not a problem and would be done for us arriving. Neither were true. The breakfast buffet was ok, for the quantity. Not the taste of it. The staff were helpful when needed but were clearly bored with their job and lacked motivation for customer service. I have stayed and worked in many hotels so I am not trying to nit pick. I feel these are real issues with his hotel and will not be coming back.

Got to our very outdated room to find the cups still dirty. Mysterious looking stains on the carpet. Mold between the window and headboard. Paid in advance for a carvery (website didn't state it was a carvey) with no vegetarian option. The food was shocking. The lettuce leaves were going brown and the soup was like flavoured water. Would recommend you don't stay here.

Large group checking in for a wedding, told we hadn't booked! Luckily, one of our group talked the receptionist through sorting it out! Bar was closed, which meant we had nowhere to get any form of drink on a very very hot day. And they didn't seem bothered about helping us in any way what so ever. No aircon in rooms and they are very dated. Would advise people NOT to stay here.

Classic Hotel, very well taken care of the reception and comfortable rooms. Recommended.

I stayed at this Hotel at the beginning of July, I found my room clean and presentable, amply equipped with tea, coffee and toiletries, more available on request. The bed was very comfortable. The buffet carvery was well presented and plenty available as was the breakfast. I would most definitely book again. The staff were also extremely helpful.

An awful hotel. Never going back again! The room was draughty and the lights and TV didn't work. The food was horrible and overpriced. Thankful we were only there one night. I wrote and complained and got some (but not all) money back.

Very good it only bad is the distance to the city of rest excellent.

Not worth more than 45£ but ok, breakfast is too pricey.

Under no circumstance stay at this hotel unless you absolutley have to. Receptionist on saturday 27th october at about 11.20 pm was absoultley awful and was the most unhelpful person I have met. Asked for a double room, given a twin and was refused the ability to change. Radiator squeaked all night as did the bed. Claimed my original booking had not been received, when I have since discovered it had so charged me again for room when he knew booking was there. Rooms are not clean and food abismal.

Hotel is in very poor condition. The rooms are dirty and smell (moist). The staff is friendly. Breakfast is too expensive and of poor quality.

This is the *least* convenient "Gatwick airport hotel" possible. If you stay here before or after your flight, you are adding at least 3 hours to your travel before you get to your room, or flight. Facilities are primitive and layout of hotel requires carrying luggage up stairs, and distances up to 200 yards, with no carry cart. Most rooms are not handicapped accessible. You get a *key* for your room. Hotel shuttle is available once per hour from airport. Shuttle *to* airport costs 5 additional. According to the shuttle map and timetable (I have photos), this Hotel has less shuttle availability than any other local hotel. Despite Reservations services describing it as "local to Gatwick airport" it is a 26 minute drive (unless shuttle which doubles as a Municipal bus) has to make additional stops or pickups. Contrarily it is "Local" to the south end of the runway. Jets begin landing at 5:15 AM. They pass overhead 800 feet over the hotel itself from 5:45 AM to 2:30 AM. Sleep very quickly becomes impossible. If you miss the shuttle, you wait in the cold for an hour, and *then* are driven 27-39 minutes to the hotel. Or you can pay the cost of your nights stay (again) for a Taxi to/from the airport. (40 or more). "Quaint" "Stately" "Old World". Translates to No internet services, (except in lobby 23 feet from main desk), no outside phone services, Tube type TV, no after hours food, and zero available local food and beverages after hours.
