Gorgeous location on South Downs Way.

Nice hostel, food is good, room is a bit small.

Amazing views, comfortable, clean rooms, great food and friendly hosts. Great options for vegans. What more could you ask for? I could feel myself relax on the amazing journey through the countryside to get there and then sitting in the lounge area, looking out to sea, I knew we had found a hidden gem of a place.

This place is OK if you are looking for a 'no frills' type of accommodation. I wouldn't say it was the most pleasant stay I have ever had at a YHA but it was adequate especially for the price. I have noticed that in many reviews the breakfast on offer has come under fire. To be honest, the breakfast was the best part of my stay there. I witnessed the duty manager being exceptionally rude to two guests who were attempting to explain why they had not checked in earlier. When one of the guests asked if they could order pizza the duty manager got into a huff. The guest was visibly taken aback but confronted the duty managers rude behaviour which seemed to have the opposite of the desired outcome. I too was shocked by the duty managers inhospitable attitude. Safe to say that if you are going to be late make sure you have informed the establishment.

Cheating lovely scenery. Could do with interior decor investment as looks 30yrs out of date.

Lovely location. Great Views. Friendly service. I stopped here for a drink whilst riding the South Downs way. Highly recommended.

The ice creams and cold tap saved our party from collapsing completely in the midday heat. Very clean and modern place.

A great hostel in a lovely setting, it had everything I needed including a drying room, the staff were very friendy and helpful. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is that I felt it could of done with a larger lounge area.

Isolation, nature, tranquility… Ideal to recharge well… Perfect for hikers and mountain bikers…

Great place tooled out the way far enough but near enough to town and great southdowns park it's in very peaceful food was great.

Elevated location makes this YHA a truly great location, polite staff, clean rooms and overall very well presented.

We hired this solely for our group and it's a beautiful location. Set on the South downs way it's a great place to walk some of it in either direction or as we did just a little intrepid walk round Truleigh hill itself (quite a steep slope for little ones! ). But plenty of farm animals etc for the littlest ones to spot. The main "living" area has a beautiful view of the sea (weather permitting) and is separated from the bedrooms so if, as we did, you have families the adults can be a bit louder in the evenings without worrying about the kids waking up. The cooking facilities and equipment are pretty basic with the oven ok (Hobs took a while) but a relatively large kitchen to prep in and plenty of crockery etc We all live locally so didn't venture out but it's a great location to some beautiful Sussex villages and of course the coast, Brighton etc.

Great venue for an exclusive hire, especially over Christmas. Even got some snow! Well managed and a fantastic place to stay.

We rent the whole hostel every year, and the standard is always great. Comfortable and a great location.

Food acceptable, if slightly colder than should be; rooms good for the price; met expectations but did not exceed them.

A welcome stop after our 10 mile walk, the room was a good size and the bunks comfortable. Unfortunately the so called stone ovan pizza was nothing more than Icelands cheapest and a total rip of at £7.20, we did enjoyed the breakfast though.

Friendly staff, but horrible breakfast (grey scrambled eggs? ) and cold room.

Lovely place to stay! Everything you need. Excellent location on the South Downs way.

Can't comment on the accommodation, but their bacon sandwiches are only good for the lolz. It's literally two pieces of bacon between two slices of super market bread at the price of £3.5 I think we've consumed more calories laughing our asses off at these sandwiches than we've gained from consuming them. Looks like a decent and clean place otherwise, and the canteen has window seats where you can see the ocean if the weather allows.

Stopped in for a drink whilst walking along the South downs. They had a variety of food and drinks (tea / soft drinks / beer). The canteen had some great views and was modern and clean. Would happily stay in the hostel.

Very well located hostel on top of the South downs. Good facilities with parking outside, inside and outside seating. Friendly service, reasonably priced food. Overall a great place to stop at for hiking etc.

Greatly enjoyed my stay here. My only regret was that it was just one night! Hostel staff were helpful and friendly, common lounge area/refectory served decent food, beer and wine then a sizeable breakfast and had spectacular views looking out over the South Downs. The other hostelers were a friendly bunch from a wide range of backgrounds. An excellent centre for hiking/mountain biking.

Hostel booked by Large Outdoors for our walking weekend. Took a while to get used to the heating and one of the showers seemed to fluctuate between scalding hit and freezing cold but the views were stupendous! Had a really good 1.5 days' walking between Truleigh Hill and Devil's Dyke on Saturday and up to Chanctonbury Ring on Sunday. The countryside is fantastic, the weather superb and will definitely be back to camp with our dog!

Excellent place to camp out. Located right on the South Downs Way and good views of the sea to the south.

Stayed last night in a tent, ground un-even and then in the evening a Hen Party turned up which was not to bad in the dining area, but they had booked a bell tent (max 5 persons) but there was about 15 and they partied until around 0400,, so we didnt get any sleep even when asking them to shut up,, so we packed up and went home even that we were booked in for 3 nights with breakfast,, I am not blaming the party girls but am blaming the manager as she could of told us that there was a Hen Party, also Yha rules state that Hen and Stag partys are not allowed,, we would of stayed but were very tired,, we are going to contact head office and complain and ask for a full refund,,, very poor for a Yha as we have stayed at loads over the years and nearly all were peaceful and perfect.

Stayed with my daughter on a Woodcraft Folk trip. Lovely hostel. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Good ales in the fridge :o)

I can't write anything because I just stopped there for 5 minutes in the garden and didn't even go inside but the location is great.

Visited to enquire about joining the YHA and had coffee and cake while there. Service and friendliness was excellent.

Fab location and facilities. The hostel staff could not have been more helpful. Everyone was very friendly too!

I enjoyed my stay at Truleigh Hill I'd recommend it to anyone, a very warm and hospitable welcome, n friendly people, and very handy location.

The Hostel is highly recommended. It has a quiet and very beautiful location on a mountain. From there one has a good view. The staff and the other guests are very friendly and helpful. The rooms (especially the showers) are for a Hostel, very big and clean. The food in the Hostel is to be recommended, but there is also the possibility to provide for themselves (with a self-catering kitchen). Especially for a walking holiday, the Hostel is perfectly suitable and you are guaranteed to like-Minded people. But also for all others, it is a good accommodation.

Arrived at the Truleigh Hill YHA quite late after long, hard ride across the South Downs Way from Winchester. Michelle on reception was extremely polite, helpful and welcoming and even made my friend and I a much needed cup of tea at 10:45pm. Very convenient location, situated actually on the path of the SDW. Great breakfast — toast, yoghurt, fruit, cereal and a fry up. Set us up perfectly for the ride to Eastbourne. Exchanging stories with other riders/travellers over …an early morning coffee is great too! Will definitely be back next year! Make sure you book in advance though as it is very popular.
