Staff were so lovely. The place was immaculate. Met lovely people. Breakfast was top notch. Felt like a home from home. Will probably return later in the year.

Very clean indeed. Chocolate brownies on arrival and large rooms. Location is superb too as everything is within walking distance. Staff are friendly, informative and helpful. Would highly recommend as one of the best hostels I have stayed in. Brilliant.

Arrived with my daughter to stay while looking for a house for her to stay for Uni. We were very well looked after. Everything was comfortable, clean and warm and high quality. The breakfast was healthy and plentiful with a fab selection of cereals, milks and pastries. Cardiff Centre on Our door step was Awesome. Would highly recommend The River House and soo happy we found it.

Really lovely place. Very clean communal areas which were cleaned everyday. Excellent facilities. Well done breakfast and best of all the area was ideal. Two people per room would have been ideal for the sizes that they were. But I would use again.

I have been staying here for almost every single time I visit Cardiff over the last couple of years. The location is fantastic, off the busy road and on the riverside, easy access to city center and Cardiff University. The room and bed are clean and cozy. Most impressive to me is the breakfast, which is nice and big deal considering the price. Will miss this place if leaving the UK.

I stayed two nights, and had amazing time. The kitchen, bathrooms, the dormitory was so clean. The living room and little back yard was so lovely, as like as lovely home. Breakfast was delicious, specially Welsh Cakes. And, def I'll be miss the hostel. Thanks for your hospitality.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at the River House, all spaces were impeccably clean, which encourages all residents to tidy up after themselves. The staff were delightfully friendly and helpful and most have been working there for 2 years or more — a great sign of an excellent environment. I don't want to say too many nice things in case they're forever booked up when I wish to come back! Thank you again and hopefully see you again in the future :)

I had an excellent experience at The River House! This is one of the nicest hostels I’ve ever stayed in. It was easy to find and in a convenient location. A few of us staying there agreed that it felt more like staying in a home than a hostel. The bathrooms and kitchen were very clean and modern, the beds were comfortable, and there was a very nice garden area in the back. The small size of the hostel and their activities made it easy to meet other travelers as well. I met some wonderful people during my stay! I will definitely go back to The River House the next time I am in Cardiff, and I highly recommend it to others!

This was a great place to stay. I have been travelling across Europe for 5 months and this place hands down had the best complimentary breakfast I have ever seen. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. The location is great, just a few minutes walk to the city centre and Cardiff Castle. Wifi was solid. The hostel bedroom was quite warm, but propping the door open for 10 minutes to let some fresh air in helped that a bit. Would happily recommend this place to anyone.

Nice stay at this hostel. Booked short notice a couple days before for a private room for two and stayed in a room with 3 single and one double bed on the top floor, all for just two of us. Good location within a quick walk of the city centre, nice new decor and shared bathroom facilities. Breakfast included was unexpected. Can park on the road outside (about £8 a day). Only issue was the building was quite hot as it was a nice couple days, but Velux roof windows in our room made it bare able.

Absolutely fantastic hostel, probably the best one I've stayed in Europe so far. Lovely location, hostel itself was wonderful and the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen in a hostel (or anywhere). Free breakfast was fantastic too! Really nice friendly vibe, and people to talk to if you want! Very strongly recommend this hostel!

This was the best place I stayed at during three weeks of travel in the UK and Ireland. The private bedroom with a shared bathroom was very affordable. The room was clean, well maintained, modern, and had a good Wi-Fi signal. Breakfast was great. But more to the point, the venue incorporates the best parts of being a hostel, B&B, and hotel. There are common spaces and common breakfast, and I was able to store a bags with the front desk and a touring bike on the back deck for a few hours after I checked out, but it's not a youth hostel, nor does it have the grungy feel you sometimes find in the cheaper urban hostels. Likewise, it doesn't have the stuffiness that can sometimes accompany a B&B. It was a nice room in the city center without the fanfare of a B&B but also without the anonymity of a hotel — perfect! Speaking as a solo traveler in his mid-thirties, the house itself also felt just right — modern, but not sterile. Thank you!

Well run, cosy, clean, tidy quiet hostel in the Centre of Cardiff. Ideal for families or individuals travelling, working, studying or taking a break alone. A friendly atmosphere. A stay includes an excellent breakfast in a clean kitchen in which guests can cook in the evenings. There is a separate lounge where guests can watch TV, read one of the many books available or take a break and there is a garden area at the back of the hostel where guests can sit in the sun and be visited by the neighbour's cat who likes to chill out in the hostel.

I stayed in this hostel a number of times in past few years and always enjoyed it. Clean hostel, friendly staff and cozy environment. It has got kind of family feeling about it. You feel like you are at your own family home. I do recommend this place.

Privileged location in the heart of the city. Right in front of the Millenium Stadium, 5 or 10 minutes walk to the pubs and shopping streets and the beautiful Bute Park. Friendly atmosphere, impeccable cleanliness. Friendly and professional welcome. And a great breakfast buffet, included in the otherwise very reasonable price. An excellent address, and one more reason to go to Cardiff!

The staff were very friendly and helpful, they did free hotdogs and cider on the Saturday night and had a good range of things to use (sky TV, movies, communal areas). The hostel had a nice family run feel to it and the complimentary breakfast was fantastic! Would definitely return again.

The owner who checked me in was so friendly, and he let me borrow some shampoo because my bag wasn’t arriving until the next day. Rooms were clean and well-maintained, and breakfast was surprisingly nutritious. I greatly appreciated the almond milk! My only issue was a Cardiff local in my room who snored like a freight train. Unfortunately, that can happen in any hostel, but I do appreciate age limits to diminish that problem.

Really well located and clean place to stay if you'd like to visit Cardiff. We've stayed for 2 nights with our 2 children (11 and 8 years old) in a room for 4 and we have enjoyed it especially the children as it was more fun than staying in a hotel (TV room/ breakfast in the kitchen/ speaking with other visitors). It was safe as well as there is always someone from the hostel there. It was clean and the toilets/showers/lavatories were new and in an efficient number.

My partner and I had a lovely stay at the River House! The beds were super comfy, the free breakfast was delicious and the hosts were all friendly. They help you try and find free parking too! Location is central, about a 5 min walk to the castle (which is cool). They have lockers in the bedrooms but I think you have to supply our own padlock.

The place is absolutely brilliant. Very close to the station and the City Centre. Staffs are very friendly. Rooms and facilities are clean. Dining area is spacious and the lounge is plush. Attracts good crowd. Highly recommended.

A hostel very close to the centre of Cardiff right next to the river, in front of the stadium.
The staff are very friendly and have given us many facilities. We had booked a room for 2 people to have more intimacy, but it was busy and we got one for 4 for just us.
The facilities are clean as well as the bathrooms which are refurbished and the rooms. The bedding is pristine.
It has a small terrace, but in winter it is usually empty as it gets quite cold on the outside.
The breakfast which we had included is a buffet with quite variety. The dining area and the TV are nice.
Some minor drawbacks I observed: — The rooms can only be accessed by a slightly narrow staircase.
— In winter the rooms are a little cold, without being excessive, to have only a small radiator, but they have good duvet and we have never gone cold. The rest of the areas and hallways are very well heated.
— The bathrooms are in mezzanines, so you always have to go up or down the stairs half way.
— Wi-Fi normally works well, with speeds around 10-20Mb, but sometimes collapses if a guest makes selfish use.

Super clean, friendly place. 4 bed dorm was very small, but 6 bed dorm more spacious. Lots of showers and toilets. Included breakfast very good. Stayed 4 nights, would recommend and stay again.

The best hostel that has been booked and stay by me. The complimentary breakfast is so lovely and makes me full for the whole morning. The most important thing it's so clean. The environment so quiet at night so have no difficulty to sleep even my room at the level 0.

The best hostel I have ever been! So clean, the room was spacious, and the bathroom was exceptionally clean and its facilities were very modern as hotels! Staffs were also nice and friendly. And the freely offered breakfast was also amazing. Not tacky at all, but well-known brands! I would definitely stay in this hostel if I go to Cardiff again.

The location is with a 10 minute walk of the bus stop. Breakfast was good with a variety of cereal, yogurt, toast, and other pastries. I have absolutely no complaints other than the three flights of stairs I had to climb to get to my room but those aren't a big deal. Loved it!

Most staff are nice. The visible hardware are good, but the shower doesn't appear having strong water pressure and not very hot (still acceptable nevertheless). As well, there are rooms fro improvement for some administrative process. However, considering the price, the current settings are good enough.

Our group of 5 lads stayed here. Can not think of anything wrong. Really enjoyed our stay. Did what we needed it for. Bunk bed room for 4 was fine very clean. Shared toilet and shower was clean. Whole hostel was well maintained. Very central and great view of millennium stadium right across the river. Breakfast was also up to hostel standards.

One of the best hostels that I've ever stayed. Everything is clean, well organized and well maintained. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Cardiff.

Nice and quiet although the public areas are small so very busy at peak times. Disappointed with the staff. When I asked about places to park the car I was given next to no help.

Great breakfast. Bedrooms were really tidy. Only a couple of shower issues but nothing too serious. Generally recommendable.

We've never stayed in a "hostel" before, always been too worried. However all my worries left me as soon as I checked into the River House. The place is honestly gorgeous, and the staff were so friendly and so incredibly helpful. There was always something for us to do and even when the weather was horrendous we managed to have fun indoors with plenty of films, games and electronics that were available. The breakfast that was provided was lush, we felt so naughty eating all the lovely pastries and fruit they had to offer. The view from our room was stunning, being massive rugby and football fans we were over the moon to be in a spot where you could overlook the river and see one of the most magnificent Welsh stadiums. We were a little bit nervous to share a room with 4 other people but everyone that came and left were so friendly. We will 100% be returning in the very near future, I would honestly recommend this place for anyone!

We've seen a lot hostels, but we think this hostel is the best hostel. The breakfast is great, the staff is friendly and everything is clean. The bed smell fresh en clean. Only good words about this hostel!

Very friendly and welcoming staff, simple six bed dorm that was clean. Ten minute walk from Cardiff Central train station so very easy to access. The free breakfast was excellent with a big variety of food and drinks. Great communal areas.

Great place, clean, friendly, great breakfast and in such a great position walking distance to the train station, millenium stadium the castle, shops and plenty of places to eat, a short walk to the riverboat where we took a trip to cardiff bay. Would stay here again and highly recommend it.

Most importantly neat and clean rooms. Kitchen is awesome. Staff members are really good and helpful. Had there been no shortage of rooms I would always prefer to stay in this place for a full month. Excellent, central choice if you're in Cardiff and on a budget! This hostel is Ideal for students like myself (I met a few that stood there for up to two weeks in order to go house-hunting) or backpackers. Also great if you want to meet new, cool people. Be sure to bring your own towel, and a lock for your locker or £5 to deposit in cash to borrow one from reception. The folks that run this hostel are a lovely pair and seem to care a lot about their guests! Sadly I didn't get to pet the cats though… The atmosphere was great altogether with the people that stood there! The included breakfast was nice overall, but was a bit too sweet for my taste and could have done nicely with a heartier option like bacon and eggs. But hey, it's included; and with the fully stacked kitchen you could just make 'em yourself if you've got the ingredients. The Wi-Fi was speedy, but sadly out of order on most of my second night there which was a bummer. Altogether a great choice I can whole-heartedly recommend to anyone staying in Cardiff!

I stayed here with a friend in December for three days. I've traveled through about 34 countries, most of the time staying at backpackers, and this is easily the best backpackers I've ever stayed in. The atmosphere was incredibly friendly, the rooms were clean, the food was amazing and the staff were helpful. The night we arrived there was free ice cream and cookies, the next night dinner for one pound. Charlie always said hi as we were coming in and out, and the whole place felt like a home away from home. Cannot recommend highly enough.
