We’ve been a lot for lunch, afternoon tea and have stayed overnight. We have always enjoyed being there. Staff, food and bedrooms are all excellent. Can’t recommend it enough.

From the minute you enter the hotel you feel your stressed ease away. The team who meet you at the door as so helpful and welcoming. Then you enter the room and you are immediately taken back in time. Rhubarb restaurant is outstanding the food wonderful. What can I say, my very favourite place.

WOW! I’ve never been so spoilt in my life. From the champagne, freshly baked cookies & chocolate in the room, to the amazing friendly staff, making you feel so welcome. We loved every minute of our 2 nights here (stayed 24/25 January). It seemed like every time we opened a cupboard door in the decadent room we found treats (coffee machine, crisps, tunnocks, bottled water etc etc etc. Then on our return in the evening we found our bed turned back with slippers placed by the bed & a newsletter telling us about tomorrow’s weather. We did not want to leave and will definitely be back. Thank you for such an amazing stay.

We just had our Wedding reception in the Garden Room, stayed three nights in the Allen Ramsey Suite. I can’t complement the whole staff enough! There was nothing that was too much trouble. They made our special day seamless. Most of the Wedding party stayed as well… all found it a brilliant place to stay.

Attended as a wedding guest, staff where professional, efficient and well disciplined throughout the day. Food was cooked perfectly and served on hot plates. Great organisation for such a large event. Perfect day.

Four weeks ago we had the most wonderful wedding for our daughter and her new husband. We were looked after from beginning to end. Friendly staff and lovely food. Wonderful accomadation in amazing rooms. Attention to detail was fabulous right down to slippers for the ladies at the top table. Fantastic. I photographed a wedding at Prestonfield House and it's a beautiful place and a fantastic location at the foot of Arthur’s Seat which made beautiful backdrops for the wedding photos. The staff were very helpful as well and went that extra mile to accommodate us. Thank you!

Absolutely fantastic! and thats just the House. Its the staff that make this place great from the Team at the door who greet you like an old freind, to the restaurant staff whose service was as grand as the rooms we ate in. And the Guys down in the Kitchen we never got to meet you but the food you guys served up was amazing a true delight and the cleaning team and the ground team who worked away in the background we really appreciate all that you do to keep the hotel as special as it is. Ashley the fantastic concierge who ran around after us, photocoping documents to email to sorting out room keys and all our taxi trips thank you so much. To the rest of the staff thank you for making our stay with you so memorable for us.

Visited this venue for our friends wedding — georgeous setting in a very quiet spot just outside the hustle and bustle of the big city. Staff were very tentative and friendly. The decor was full of rich fabrics and dark colours — a feast for the eyes.

Have only been here for Afternoon Tea but it's a great experience. The grounds are very nice — walking around to check out the peacocks or the highland cows after tea is always enjoyable. They also have a putting green and often set up croquet on the front lawn.

Lovely place to have afternoon tea, which is delicious and served by very nice people. The building is astonishing with a lot of period details and beautiful and elegant decor. There is also a very nice park to the front that includes some Highland cows and peacocks.

Great for dogs and the staff were very friendly. The room was luxurious and the bottle of champagne in the room on arrival was a nice touch… The evening meal was of a high quality but very pricey…

Period house in grounds. Good wine list. Overseas guests always love it.

I just went for the Scottish night show. But the grounds were very well maintained and everything looked amazing. The food was good and they put a lot of effort into the show.

This place is lovely! Feels more like a nice retreat to the countryside rather than in town! They have all sorts of things to look at and it’s kept mostly as it was originally. The staff are excellent! Jamie in particular was very informative, helpful and nice. I don’t remember other names of staff as we had most contact with him.
Food is delicious get the French Toast with Apple compote for breakfast! Ya won’t regret it. I’d love to come back here again. Beds are comfy and cozy rooms as well. I LOVE it! Great place oh AND a house kitty named Raven to greet you when you arrive. Highland cows on property. It’s just fantastic!

Stayed two nights either side of our wedding. The Prestonfield's reputation is second to none and is so deserved. For all the elegance and classic ambience it is the staff who really make your stay worthwhile. Polite, respectful yet always friendly but without the obsequiousness that can marr the experience. Will be back.

Attending a wedding in the stables part, was very luxurious and the grounds themselves are amazing with stunning views. The bar however has a terrible selection of drinks and is very pricey.

Prestonfield house is a beautiful opulent hotel but with a country house feel. The grounds are stunning and the service impeccable. Great as a wedding venue or for a special meal.

A beautiful house and setting, we booked for a Sunday lunch set menu which was very reasonable. The dark gothic decor is gorgeous and light classical music played in the background whilst we enjoyed our lunch. Service was very good and most staff bent over backwards to accommodate.

Enchanting place. Great food. On arrival the service was spot on however, didn't continue to be so throughout our stay. Lovely staff but we booked a dinner at the rhubarb restaurant, which was a part of our wedding present from our friends. We were taken to this little private room in between the floors. Lovely view but no music and a bit cold at first. We were brought a speaker after a while with a cd in it that had only few songs on and was replaying them throughout the whole time we were there (nearly 3hrs). We didn't have one waiter/waitress, we had around 6 different staff coming in and out. After the dessert it seemed that we were forgotten as we were sat in this room for 40minutes unattended. We decided to go back to the restaurant's reception and had to wait further to find someone in order to pay. When we found the manager we were asked if we had booked a table… When we said that we were unattended for over 40min there were no apologies but he gave us the bill. Again the dinner should have been included but apparently the restaurant within the hotel didn't communicate with the hotel's reception… In the end we sorted it. We also mentioned the situation at the check out and the receptionist was very emotionless and said that she will pass it on and proceeded to give us the bill for the drinks we had at the meal. At the arrival we were also asked if we wanted a newspaper every morning and we said 'no'… So we received a newspaper every morning. Just a waste.

Beautiful estate, gorgeous views of the landscape around, cozy environment. We’ve been there for afternoon tea — good food but no more than an average experience. Scones were not fresh, tea was ok, nobody showed up to check if we needed anything and we had to chase for the bill. I guess we expected more.

Unique location just outside Edinburgh. Grounds are lovely to wander around. The restaurant excellent. Free spacious car park.

I am a huge fan of Prestonfield House! I have enjoyed dining with friends and family several times in this wonderful hotel! The staff are so friendly and attentive; the food and wine delicious! Last weekend, the Prestonfield charm extended to a super charity Ball in the Stables. All visits to Prestonfield are made very special by the high standards of attention, presentation and delivery of delicious food!
The building and grounds are wonderful and the decoration beyond unique!
Well worth many visits!

Had a great Sunday lunch with my family as a birthday celebration. Waiters were very accommodating. Enjoyed the hake main. Also liked the fact the teapots are large, so you can get your fill after a meal. Would go again!

We had our wedding at Prestonfield and could not have been happier. The venue is incredible with food and service to match. Highly recommended.

Superficially beautiful but at £40/head for a very average afternoon tea with 1 glass of champagne it wasn't special. The service was 50%: forgot the sweetener, tea was stewed & pot too big. Partners gluten free scones ghastly & soggy. Jam, cream & sandwiches lovely. Tea strainers seen better days. Atleast our dogs were made welcome unlike all similar hotels in Edinburgh.

An amazing manor house. I never knew about this place until a local took me there. So much history in the house, the staff were really helpful answering my questions about the manor. Stunning.

Lovely lovely lovely place! Felt like our own little countryside get away. The property is tranquil and cozy. The staff are friendly and hospitable and the food was an absolute delight. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back in the future. The Benjamin Franklin Suite is a must.

Outstanding! The food was divine, the set menu was very affordable and the wine list was like 'Lord of the Rings'. The staff in particular deserve commendation. They were incredibly attentive and accommodated last minute requests with grace. We will definitely return to dine here in future.

Went for a friends wedding food was great staff were fantastic although a tenner for a nip of lagavulin was a little tough to swallow.

I've been to Prestonfield a few times over the years, to the house and the stables for events. Everything I've been to is worth 5 stars, whether it be afternoon tea, lunch, dinner, a wine tasting, a work event or wedding. The house itself is beautiful, inside and out, and the grounds/views are stunning. You'd never think you were on the edge of the city centre. Eating at Rhubarb is always great and the staff are really attentive. I've never stayed in the rooms but I can imagine they're just as opulent as the rest of the rooms.

Great service, and really great food. We stayed in the Benjamin Franklin Suite and the Owner's Suite. The rooms are very overdecorated and cluttered for our personal tastes, but it definitely made it a fun and unique experience. From my research, it is near impossible to find a king bed at a five star hotel in Scotland. The queen bed in the BF suite is comfortable, although the large bed frame makes the room a bit tight. I would suggest ordering food during regular restaurant hours as the overnight menu is extremely limited. The grounds are well kept and are filled with flowers and local birds; we even saw a handful of peacocks, pheasant, partridge, and a couple of bulls. A long walk to the center of town, and a bit of a walk to the nearest bus stop, but other than that a nice place to stay if you appreciate great food and interesting decor.

An absolute must stay when in Edinburgh. The property is beautiful and the hospitality team even better. Stewart & the others on many occasions went out of their way to make our stay comfortable & memorable.

Who even sleep in this lovingly furnished house to eat and celebrate, it could always repeat.

Had another fantastic meal at the Rhubarb restaurant. Friendly attentive staff, stunning atmosphere and very good food. Would thoroughly recommend if you want a very special dining experience.

The premises are very good looking. The food was also very good so no complaints there. I've had my undergrad graduation ball here and I really enjoyed it.

Great venue for over 300 people. Excellent food and good overall service. Bar was a bit pricey.

Attended Prestonfield for charity black tie dinner. Best venue in Edinburgh for such an event, 440 happy diners in beautiful surrounds.

This place is all five stars! We had a lovely weekend break! Its quite expensive but worths the money!

This was quite a remarkable dining experience. We loved the decor and various pieces of art that adorned the very high walls. The entree and deserts were the standouts, the main wasn't quite as inspired. A bit of a mix up with the bill but it was promptly fixed. All in all we had a lovely night.

Disappointing. Was really looking forward to a treat, especially after seeing it featured in a Mr and Mrs Smith travel book. We went at 3pm to sample the afternoon tea and were shown to an interesting old hunting lodge type of room. I thought this was going to be modern but it was old and fusty. We were given three finger sandwiches which felt like they had been out all day and were a bit hard on top and tasted of nothing special. The scones were lovely and fresh. The cakes were ok and nothing special. My problem is that at the price we were paying they should have been very special indeed! Dissapointed, will not recommend it and will not return!

Just back from an excellent afternoon tea for 4 including one gluten free. Surroundings are sumptuous and the food was excellent. Great choice of teas too and for what you get, very reasonably priced.

Friends and I have been going here once a month for almost two years and have yet to be disappointed, well except by the empty wallet when we leave. But it's money well spent. Great Food, Great Service, Chilled and Cozy Ambiance.

1LET had a Celebration Dinner at Prestonfield House, we arranged it at short notice and could not have had a better experience. From first phone call, every email and the staff on the night the service was excellent. The food was delicious and the rooms felt luxurious and perfect for a private dining experience. We would thoroughly recommend this for a special occasion.

My husband and I stayed at Prestonfield House last spring sorry if I forgot to do a review. Everything about this place is fantastic. Friendly, helpful, staff, Churchill Suite superb! Cocktails, evening meal, and breakfast all to be highly recommended. If you have the opportunity to stay at this wonderful place I'm sure you will not be disappointed. Yes loved it. Will return.

I am luck y enough to have fabulous friends that treated me to afternoon Tea on Sat for my Birthday. I dont think I have ever been in a hotel that is 5 star and felt so comfortable and special all at the same time. Afternoon Tea was delicious and the staff who served us were extremely polite and attentive. The Hotel is beautiful and the gardens are equally as nice. I was even in shock at how nice the bathrooms are! The best place I have been for afternoon tea and the nicest hotels. I hope to be back very soon.

Everything about this place is about five star. The decor is all finished in a really nice high quality baroque style, the gardens are really nice and there are peacocks having a stroll. I went with a group for a meal in the evening. The main reception is really nice, we had a few drinks and then went through for dinner, the food was really high quality and tasted great, the service was fast and friendly. It's really high quality and worth a visit, it's pricey but they do a good deal on the lunch menu and a better one on the early dinner one. They cater for vegans and vegetarians with excellent choices for both. The duck pate was really nice and the main of lamb and haggis was excellent and the pudding was a treat.

I stayed at Prestonfield House on a Valentines Day dinner, bed and breakfast deal. It was a perfect romantic stay, from the moment we were greeted as we left our taxi at the front doors by a kilted concierge through to the receptionist who made it super easy for us to enjoy a late checkout. Dinner at Rhubarb was definitely the highlight; three courses of exquisite food that surprised and delighted us at each turn. The little extras (mini starter taster, petit fours with coffee) made it even more lovely — especially when we were encouraged to take our post-dinner coffee into the drawing room where a fire was lit and soft music was playing. Breakfast (in bed! ) the next morning was similarly fantastic. I would definitely love to return at some point soon.

Prestonfield is stunning.  The room we had our afternoon tea in, the Whisky Room, is stuffed with things to look at, antler furniture, sofas.  The afternoon tea itself is very reasonable at £18 per person.  As well as the usual scones, sandwiches and cakes, they brought us haggis and butternut squash balls.  The tea selection is very good and they were happy to let us try more than one. Cocktails which although £10 each, were very good. One of my friends had been given a book of old forgotten cocktails as a birthday gift during the meal and staff were happy to use it to make us drinks from it. The toilets here are very over the top decor-wise — love it. The staff were good enough to give us a mini-tour of the hotel, the Japanese style function room is stunning.  And lastly they handed us back our coats having mended the hook on one of them.  It's that kind of attention to detail that makes a hotel stand out from the rest.

Prestonfield has beautiful, luxurious rooms and is staffed by people who understand how to make staying there even more special. The rooms are sumptuous, with velvet wallpapers and gorgeous antiques and curiosities scattered around. The views are some of the best in Edinburgh. When we stayed, I asked to book the private turret for a late dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday, only to be told it was unfortunately booked up. Instead, they suggested we breakfasted there, with someone on hand to pop up and down to the buffet for us, and to serve us from the a la carte menu. Afterwards, we explored the hotel's rooms, and then the grounds, the peacocks even behaved long enough for us to take some photos of them with Arthur's Seat in the background. I've stayed, or worked, at many hotels in Edinburgh, and I've yet to have another experience that can equal Prestonfield. One word of note: it is on the pricier end of the spectrum, but trust me, it's worth it.
