Stayed for 2 nights for our sons wedding and cannot recommend the venue, staff and service highly enough. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They contributed in making the whole weekend magical! Thank you so much!

We LOVED Melville Castle! ❤️ You can live like royalty for a bit without paying a king’s ransom for the privilege. Gorgeous two-level rooms available with very comfortable beds. Gorgeous grounds to explore, including Mary Queen of Scots’ trees. Great meals, helpful and kind staff, horses for the kids to feed apples to. Close to Edinburgh, which is great. I can’t say enough about how delighted we were with Melville and the whole Melville experience.

Our room was wonderfully appointed, and very spacious. The staff was very helpful, and the restaurant was wonderful. I only wish we had had more time to explore the grounds, and see more of what the castle offered. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an enchanting stay at a very reasonable price.

Love the feel of the place. It has ample space outside to stroll around the grounds as well as plenty of sitting areas inside.
Hubby and I had a wonderful meal here tonight in the restaurant. Would definitely recommend this place.

Amazing venue. We had our wedding there last week. The events team were so professional and helpful with the organisation for our special day. Couldn’t have been happier. Beautiful venue and very professional staff.

Very dated and understaffed. Needs some work to the hotel and grounds. Food in the restaurant was good. Haunted.

My new wife and I got married here on the 9th June and I have to say the castle is absolutely fantastic. The staff were so helpful from the first day we stepped into the venue and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. Massive thanks to Fiona who helped organise our wedding day but a massive thanks to all staff who were there to help on the day.

The staff are very friendly, the rooms are comfortable, spacious and have lovely views of the well cared for grounds around the castle. Dinner at the restaurant will not disappoint, the ox cheeks are delicious and do try the duck. It is amazingly peaceful and serene. So happy we are staying here.

My wife and I had our wedding here and can’t recommend it highly enough. All of our friends and family were blown away not just by the castle and its grounds, but by the marquee, the food and the whole day. A lot stayed the night too as we had a lot of international guests and they couldn’t speak higher of the rooms, the service and the breakfast.

Cool place to stay. The overnight bartender made the place for me he was great. The restaurant was good the building is very cool the only downfall was the room we stayed in. It was small and the shower curtain smothers you.

Absolutely love Melville. Getting married here in October and can't ask for a nicer venue. The restaurant, which is underneath the castle, is amazing. The food is incredibly well presented and tastes even better than it looks. The grounds are lovely and clearly well maintained. Plenty of parking right in front of the castle too.

Loved our stay here! Beautiful castle and very friendly staff. Food was great too. Room was a little warm, but could have just been due to the unusually warm weather. For me it was a bucket list item staying in a castle but definitely worth going for a few nights there.

We stayed here one night while in Edinburgh. We were excited to spend the night in a real castle! The staff were amazing between the receptionist and our servers at the bar and restaurant. Dinner and breakfast were both very good. We enjoyed being able to walk the grounds and learn about the history of the castle. We'd stay here again.

Played here with the Jiggers ceilidh band, marquee wedding ceilidh and disco. Staff are very nice and friendly, and efficient too. The marquee has a sound limiter to prevent disturbing neighbours, but we felt the sound in the room was still plenty loud, so don't let that discourage you if you're considering having your wedding here. Beautiful castle too. Grounds are so beautiful. Love playing here.

Had an amazing night here. The staff were so friendly, food was amazing and the whole place is stunning. Would highly recommend.

We saw this place on Airbnb and kinda fell in love with it, however the location to the place was quite inaccessible and you would require a cab or hire a car to get there. When we reached there, we were greeted by a magnificent sight! As we were early, we wandered around to take a look and hoping that we could check in early. We were warmly welcomed by the receptionist who offered to keep our luggage when the room wasn't ready. After coming back in the evening, they had already helped us to shift it to our room. The room was huge and had a beautiful view of the backyard which had a fountain and 2 ponies (I think) nibbling around the yard. Overall, it was a wonderful stay with a sumptuous breakfast and beautiful decorations all around. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in staying in a castle at a reasonable cost!

Arrived late but staff organised a meal for us. Lovely room in a great setting. Wished to have spent more time here.

Are here for 6 days, and are perfectly satisfied. Nice staff, great rooms, Super quiet area, located directly on a river, between a small paddock.

We stayed here last night for our wedding anniversary & I honestly cannot fault the place. Our room was amazing with a four poster bed. Our dinner was fabulous & we received a special Anniversary sweet on the house too. We also got a free bottle of wine to take to our room after our meal. Breakfast was really good too, plenty choice, both the continental buffet & the hot breakfast. The staff in the restaraunt cannot do enough for you & the reception staff are very friendly too. This was our 2nd time at this hotel & we will definitely be back.

A goodnight stay with a lovely one hour walk around the grounds. The evening meal was spot on and the breakfast plentiful. Clean four poster bed room with all ameneties except sky.

Just got back from a fabulous stay at the castle, we stayed in a superior double with 4 poster, it was beautiful even my husband was impressed with the lovely smell of the room every time you entered (he even searched for a plug-in lol). The food was amazing from the breakfast to amazing evening meals. We were there to celebrate our pearl wedding anniversary, and when we arrived back to our room after a day out they had left us a complimentary bottle of prosecco which finished off our day lovely. The staff were all lovely especially the waiter who served us our breakfast and evening meal, and the bar staff who doubled up on reception. Would definitely stay again. Thank you Melville Castle x.

This review is for the Brasserie restaurant at Melville Castle Hotel. The starter was leek and potato soup, which arrived quickly and was flavourful and smooth, but not as hot as it could have been. Then there was lamb shank and chicken breast, both of which were delicious, and with lovely veg etc. A side of winter veg was half mushrooms and a little disappointing. Had a bottle of red wine (merlot) which was very nice. The wines are rather expensive. Coffees afterward were very nice, as was the sticky toffee pudding (not the largest portion ever, but good nonetheless). The staff were helpful, friendly and attentive. The restaurant had a few other people but was nowhere near full, even on a Friday evening, although it was winter. The light beer us was flickering all the time, but seems to be the only one. Overall would highly recommend to anyone with a car or anyone else in the summer. (The walk from the bus stop is lo get than you think and pretty chilly in winter! )

The place its a joke! Run by unprofessional people! Everything about money and more money! Just bad!

We stayed there, must have been 1979? We were the only guests staying there and the owner of the time didn't stay on site! As we were going up to our room she turned the lights out! How we found our room I'll never know. The hotel had suits of armour and spooky pictures Couldn't sleep as we were spooked out. We were sure it was haunted. Hope it's friendlier now! Maybe one day we'll go back.

The castle is simply incredible. Steeped in history and a sight to behold set in over 50 acres of parkland, you will not be disappointed by its appeal. The staff are all very good with the exception of one of the receptionists who was unprofessional.

Attended for my friends wedding. The marquee was magnificent and the ability to run into the hotel to use card was a welcome addition. Drinks were a bit pricey but that is to be expected.

Attended wedding and had overnight stay. Stayed on room 204 with for poster bed. Traditional furniture but clean and warm room. Food and service at wedding was excellent.

Staff very pleasant,, welcoming and efficient. House was in a beautiful setting for the wedding. The marquee was well done and warm considering how cold it was outside. Toilets there were clean there too. Food was excellent. Hotel room was spacious and clean. Lovely and warm. I know as a castle it is decorated with old furniture and decoration, but I think some of it could be upgraded. Overall we had a great time there.

The grounds here are absolutely beautiful, this is an excellent venue for a large event like a wedding. The rooms are quite spacious, and include great amenities. One note though, the hotel restaurant is probably not worth your time, and don't count on going anywhere else on foot. You're going to want to take a car into the city instead.

This castle is set in stunning grounds and breakfast was great. There was a full bar and friendly staff. Unfortunately our room hadn't been looked after. The grout in the shower was filthy, lightbulbs were missing, furniture was chipped and damaged, as were the curtains and the carpets. We didn't ask for a new room as the same level of care ran throughout the hotel. It was a real shame. Their focus is on weddings, rather than hotel bookings. We were asked repeatedly if we wanted to get married there. It is one of numerous castles in the area and one steeped in history but the others I have visited are better maintained.

We stayed at the hotel, it was very nice. I wasn't sure how to drain the tub and staff came quickly to assist. Breakfast was delicious. And the castle is just beautiful.

Just returned from a one night stay at this historic country house/castle hotel. Our stay was a Christmas gift voucher and after reading previous reviews, we weren't sure what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised and were left wondering why Melville Castle received some of these negative reviews. The building itself is splendid and in a very scenic location. We stayed in Room 1 on the ground floor at the rear of the building, the room being split level with bathroom and sitting area on lower level and bedroom area on mezzanine level above. The room had the appearance of being recently decorated and spotlessly clean throughout. We has both dinner and breakfast and found the food to be excellent, the only small quibble was possibly a few more options needed on the menu, but this is a minor issue. Staff were all very friendly and helpful, a credit to the hotel. Will definitely return.

Friendly staff and amazing grounds. However rooms shabby. Dining area needs a scrub and a major dust. Really looks tired and in need of a lick of paint and tlc.

Stayed here for two nights for a friend's wedding. A rocky start the night before the wedding was quickly and proactively put right by John who went above and beyond to deal with the issues. Overall a great place with a setting that is hard to beat.

Wonderful place. Lovely grounds. They have a little library bar and a side room that are perfect to unwind from the day or socialize with your fellow travellers. The restaurant on site is delicious. We had a lovely dinner and a nice breakfast the next morning.

It was wonderful to have our wedding at Melville Castle! The staff was great to work with, our wedding co-ordinator, Melissa, was excellent. The food was absolutely delicious and they offered a wide range of choices for our guests. Gorgeous place for a wedding.
