Where to start! Air con doesn’t work …the furniture is shabby and worn out. Window blinds won’t open…the whole hotel is tired and rundown. This hotel is on the main road near to the hospital and police station and so there is a constant noise of sirens. Shower is mouldy and shelf in bathroom hanging off wall. Staff are the only saving grace for this place together with the close proximity to the venue we were attending. For the price they charge they need to up their game!

We had nothing but problem we being accommodate here since no room by great north hospital and we had nothing but pick n pick We been told do this and that and they never liked it. This hotel is not family friendly hotel… We even had bar table nearly fell on my kid but they used cheap make glue but still movable and pull out bed was faulty but won't fix it. But this is not for long stay for sure I will be making complaints soon we get home cos this isn't how we suppose to be treated… At all. Omg they even don't get the fact we want sheet but kept gave us supplies of duvet cover which is can't go wrong with that… Seriously… Lack of storage spaces definitely not recommended again for long stay.

We stayed in this hotel for a week whilst we were without power due to Storm Arwen.
We were so well looked after. All the staff…and I mean every SINGLE one really did their upmost to make us feel at home, relaxed and comfortable. Kelly and her staff are fabulous. Aside from the staff, the hotel isn’t bad either! 😉😊 Nice large suites, comfortable beds and a nicely decorated clean hotel. Throughly recommend.

Perfect location for a wee shopping trip. Hotel room lovely and clean with plenty room for 3 sharing. Staff lovely and really helpful. Would definitely book there again.

Stayed a week ago for work, disgusting place, rooms showers vile, fire alarm and noise is horrendous, and even the staff, worst place I’ve ever been to, complain before and the manager will cancel your room leaving you stranded.

Loved our experience! We weren’t very Impressed with the breakfast, considering we paid nearly £15 each…

A very nice modern hotel in the heart of Newcastle. We were on the 9th floor and had great views of the football ground and Newcastle.

Had a lovely stay at the Sandman, staff are so friendly and helpful, especially the lad on front desk, early hours of morning on Saturday. Bed was super comfortable and room was spotless, breakfast was delicious also.

Hotel staff are extremely friendly! Very clean and comfy. The rooms are smaller than expected but feel really roomy. Beds are really comfy and so are the pillows. Perfect location, right next to St James Park and the town centre. The view from our room was incredible, it overlooked the stadium (I'm a Newcastle fan so I was chuffed). The bar attached to the hotel was really good as well, we stayed in there till gone 2 in the morning but was never made to feel like you had to leave, plenty of tvs with sports on. 100% will be going again and again and again.

Very disappointed with our stay — stayed in room 205 on 22nd June — check in was quick and easy and we were well impressed on first impressions of the hotel were good Unfortunately it went downhill from there — We went to our room 205 on the second floor — immediately we noticed there was numerous stains on the carpet and a contact lens left from a previous guest next to the kettle Found the bed very uncomfortable and we both woke with sore necks the following morning Breakfast was very disappointing on Sunday morning — food was cooked in bulk just kept warm in big silver containers — disappointing it wasn’t hot and fresh We regularly stay at hotels and this one was a big disappointment to us — would definitely look elsewhere for our next stay in Newcastle.

Good location. Liked microwave and fridge in room… great idea.

Stayed there as a 60th birthday present off my children: room was very comfortable.
And they had even left a bottle of Brown Ale for me as a birthday present!

Can’t fault this hotel. Clean, neat, thoughtful staff.

Stayed with the girls at the weekend in a suite for 3, we had a kitchen and loads of space for getting ready for a night out

Love this hotel — we have stayed twice now and it's super comfortable and surprisingly quiet given how close it is to St James Park! The breakfast is also excellent, plenty of choice and all well-cooked. Word of warning — if you get a space in one of the allocated parking pays in the public car park across the road, make sure you get a parking permit — we weren't given one when we checked in (although we did say we'd parked over there) and were issued a fine by the council, which was unduly stressful. To be fair though, the hotel were excellent at sorting it out once they understood what happened (the Canadian receptionist is fantastic! ) so I still can't say a bad word about it!

Stayed over for one night. Room was compact but comfortable enough and offers decent views of St James Park. The reception area is modern looking and the hotel is well situated for nearby bars and restaurants. I don’t think it had anything that wowed hence the 4* review but I’d certainly not hesitate in returning based on my last visit. Overall, the room was well decorated and offered a good nights sleep. The Shark bar had a decent Gin selection too.

Stayed here last week for 2 nights. No complaints. Room compact but adequate. Air conditioning which was great. Breakfast in the Shark Bar was plentiful. Really friendly staff. Would recommend and would deffo stay again.

We stayed on Friday for my daughters 15th birthday. We were met with lovely reception staff who advised they left a little something in the room for my daughters birthday which was a lovely touch. Room was amazing very comfortable and clean, plenty tea/coffee facilities and cooking facilities had you wanted to make a meal in the studio kitchen. Breakfast the next day was a lovely buffet continental & Full English, Lola, the lady who was running the shark club breakfasts was lovely she took a real shine to my 1 year old & offered to get her breakfast for me so I didn’t have to leave her, she also promoted me breastfeeding over breakfast as my little girl was unsettled, she made sure we were taken care of, real lovely stay thank you & cant wait to return with our returning customer 10%

This place is tough to review. I'll start by saying that the service and the people are excellent! We had some issues with sunburn (England! ), laundry and directions and the staff sorted them out without a blink. There were some irregularities however. The room was quite hot as it was also hot outside. There was a thermostat, but it didn't work. There was a fridge, but it didn't keep things cold. The rainfall shower was excellent, but there was no shower door so the floor was pretty wet. All in all I'd still recommend staying here. Remember to voice your needs to the staff.

Great hotel! Rooms are very nice and clean. Our room had a great view of St James Park and surroundings. Perfect location as we went to see Ed Sheeran at St James Park. Staff very welcoming! Definitely would go back!

The prefect location to stay, came with myself and three of my friends and could walk everywhere. Rooms were gorgeous and came with everything you need. Staff were absolutely amazing and so pleasant. Already can't wait to go back!

Would be even better if it had a pool, but otherwise it's fantastic. Friendly and helpful staff, excellent, spacy room with a comfortable bed, and a good bar. The best bit is that it's right across the road from SJP. If you can get one of the *18 (in our case, 718) rooms, do: they have a balcony, kitchen and small living area as well as the bedroom! Great place; wonderfully central location (right beside the Metro and close to the central station, as well as many bus routes), lovely people and very well-appointed rooms. Recommended.

A very decent hotel to stay in on business, clean rooms well laid out with a good shower. The breakfasts had a very good selection ranging from a decent fry up to granola and yogurt. Very well located for the football stadium, and also for visiting the University of Newcastle Science Park, you're also only a five minute walk from the centre of the city and easy access to the train station. All in all a pleasant, functional stay. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because it could have a better selection of beers in the bar downstairs.

Good place to get litty. Really good experience. However the people who check you in especially the men think they are better than everyone else. Really wound me up.

Definitely a 4star and potential 5star. Always giving amazing services. Last time realized reserved parking is across the road and the room was upgraded. But would prefer the single room compared to the family one. Single or double rooms are simply fantastic. Morning breakfast included and is very nice. Centre place close to stadium and all the top notch places.

Room nice. Basic and small but lovely and clean. Reception at check in was slow but only one staff on and hotel was really busy. Location excellent. No complaints about hotel, the bar was busy but it appeared that if your face was known you got a much better service than if you were a stranger and hearing young female waitresses using the f word was the final straw. My husband and I left and went elsewhere. We did mention this to reception who said she would "tell management but it is st Patrick's day"! 3 stars purely for language used by staff.

Seriously avoid this hotel at all costs. If it was 40/50 pound a night i’d Understand. I tried to check in a 15.00 today but was told the systems are down. As a paying customer I have no interest in this problem. I was not offered a discount for the inconvenience which was baffling. The queue was massive but the staff had no common sense to walk down the line and manually check people in or offer them some type of discount. Eventually got in. To top it off the heater wasn’t working. Much better around for that price.

Reception was very rushed with little eye contact and sounded like he was trying to get through the registration as quick as possible. We were then sold a parking space despite there being no spaces in the car park. We had a family room booked but only two cups in the room. The sofa bed was already pulled out for us but very uncomfortable. I could manage one night but no more. There were no extra blankets and only thin sheets on the sofa bed. A very cold night! Breakfast was disorganised with no butter for toast no sausages and no eggs. When this was highlighted only the amount for our party was brought out despite other guests still queuing up. I certainly wouldn't rate the hotel more than 3 stars despite its beautiful presentation.

Hotel is fairly modern but interior design choices are. Odd. Eg overhead shower leaks through half open shower, big block of wood (shelf) behind toilet to hit you head on, etc. Hotel is clean though and reasonably priced. Depending on price, I'd stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel with a group of friends on Saturday, on arriving the staff where friendly, the room was ok but nothing special, the pictures on the website where not similar to the room itself, then after going out for the day, we returned to the hotel with two of my friends helping me in to the bar as I had slipped on a stair and hurt my foot, after helping me to a chair the staff they told my friends to get me out of the bar as I was intoxicated (which was a insult) as I was clearly in pain and distressed, then after they helped me to my room my friends then went back down stairs to enjoy the rest of the night, and was refused alcohol because I had to much to drink which wasn't the case, but the staff where quite happy to send alcohol up to the room if we ordered it through room service, but not happy to serve it downstairs and didn't listed at all when told I had hurt myself, after coming home the next day and going to A&E I have actually broken my foot, which we did try to tell them from the start, if the staff where more helpful and considerate we would have had a different experience in this hotel and gone home happy but that wasn't the case.

Good hot waitresses like hotters but rooms cold and heating in the rooms dated and loud. I still stay here due to good location, amazing wings, good basic beers and nice breakfast baps.

New Hotel with standard rooms. They have a type of room that is like an apartment. The views of the higher rooms are worth it. In front of the Newcastle football team Stadium. It is located in the center so you can walk without a problem.

Very noisy public bar. Confusion over breakfast order anda wine gift paid for by a colleague took ages to sort out at reception.

Good service, nice room but Wi-Fi was quite inconsistent.

Really solid and well appointed hotel. Rooms are large and clean. Only thing that lets it down a little is the breakfast which is served in the nightclub next door! Staff were super helpful. Woukd stay again.

Here for a work event. Meeting rooms were nice if a little dark. Attentive staff and lots of facilities. The rooms seemed large with plenty of space and modern fixtures and fittings. The bar is nice, with lots of choice of drink and food. Overall very happy with the venue for a work event.

We stayed for one night in a king studio. The room itself was good and we'll equipped (apart from a mirror above desk). How ever the noise from the generators /fans right below our room window were so loud we couldn't sleep! Also there was a group of people from between 2-3am on and out of each others rooms, running up and down the corridor, posting notes under our door, which was very loud. Breakfast was very nice… Overall though I wouldn't recommend this hotel to friends. Great central location though!

Great hotel. Good location and really good facilities. In the main the rooms are lovelly but some. Are starting to show some wear. Sill really nice with great staff and I'd recommend it!

Lovely. Rooms small but nice n clean. I found no wardrope a problem, 4 hangers on coat hooks unfortunately not enough for my husband and i. Food excellant. Bar and staff also really good.

Modern hotel eith most facilities available. Some of the features are so modern they’re not very practical.

This is an odd place. Heating/Cooling system in the room was essentially a generator so nice and loud during the night, beds and pillows uncomfortable. Cracking views of the ground though.

Lovely room staff really friendly. My daughter is in a wheelchair and staff was really helpful and always making sure she was ok and if she needed anything x.

Stayed last night. Hotel was amazing staff very helpful and room was spot on. Asked for high floor overlooking st james park (what a view) highly recommend and will defo stay again.

Prime location (centre of town). Rooms were fit for purpose. The showers were very nice. Friendly service.

Mid Range, Modern "Trendy" Hotel. The room was well appointed and the bed was comfortable, but there were minor annoyances. The room was by the lifts which sqeaked most of the night; the curtains didn't quite block out all the very bright street lighting and the mini-bar fridge was encased in a cupboard with no ventilation making it loud and dangerously hot.

Not what it looks like on line. Dirty rooms, noisy (I'm on the 8th floor and can hear everything outside) tired and in need of updating. Shower leaks all over the bathroom floor. Air con is the noisiest I've ever come across. Rooms are small. Breakfast area is a bar by night and not suitable for breakfast, it's dark and smelly. If you like a cuppa in the morning, this has the worst cup of tea I've ever experienced drinking. Really wouldn't recommend this hotel for families especially.

On previous occasions I've found this hotel to be quite loud, being very close to the city centre. However, this stay I had a very pleasant room to the rear of the hotel and I had a very good night's sleep. Room facilities are superb. Staff are always friendly, welcoming and helpful.

It's a pity — we expected more I booked my parents in here than they visited me in Newcastle. The hotel makes a great impression from the outside and the location is ideal, right near me and only a 5 minute walk from the city centre.
The thing is not very favorable for this — but it is also 4 stars!
Parking is not included but we knew that before. However, the hotel offers parking that can be rented. My parents did that and the first few days that worked well. However, if you only come back late in the evening, all parking plates are usually occupied and you have to look somewhere else. In my opinion, annoying when you finally "bought" a place.
On arrival, my parents ' room was not yet available. In order not to make them wait, you have been offered another room further down the hotel. This was considerably smaller than a room at Motel One.
To top it all off, the rooms do not have central heating but a heating fan. This one is extremely loud and makes dry air. In addition, the operation is not self-explanatory and the device decides itself when to stop to use it. Sometimes it even cools the room down — without this being deliberately set. This is not pleasant in the English winter.
To top it all off, in my parents "room on a night of towel dryers in the bathroom is fallen by the wall with the result that the whole bathroom was under water (the water from the heater is also dirty).

Hotel 4 stars standard. Designer showers, but ill-suited. Rich breakfast.

One of the best hotels I've been to recently. It's a nice short walk from Newcastle Central Station and just 5 minutes from the shops. It's literally by the football stadium! The rooms are very nice with lots of amenities, it even has a microwave and a mini fridge. Great decor, nice lighting, although I wish it they had a bigger TV. The shower is great, the ceiling installation of it is really nice. Breakfast is superb, the only hotel so far that serve pancakes with their buffet style breakfast. Basically, if I was to drop by Newcastle again, I'd check the Sandman Signature Hotel first before any other hotel.

Friendly staff from the moment you walk in the door, with spacious, modern rooms. Shark bar, attached to the hotel, is buzzing with locals, although I didn't try the breakfast there. They do food, which you would call "American", and have a decent range of beers and spirits. The bedrooms are large, and you're not short of anything. A large, lit wardrobe, ironing board and iron, hairdryer, plus a modern walk-in shower with rain head. Complimentary soaps and shampoo's, even my standard room had a couch, desk and chair, with a large flat screen TV on wall, with ANOTHER smaller one on the wall in the kitchen area. The kitchen itself has a microwave, toaster, kettle (with tea, coffee, biscuits, etc) and sink. There's a breakfast bar and stools with all the crockery you'd need to be self sufficient. There's free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, with a good strong signal, including in the rooms. Don't want to be disturbed by housekeeping? There are electronic signs by the door, that you switch on and off from the room. None of this hanging a piece of card on your door handle! All in all, I'd highly recommend this place for business or pleasure stays, as the location is ideal for the centre of this historic city.

I've stayed here 10+ times and can't fault much. The rooms are excellent and the staff are always friendly. The only criticism is the bar where breakfast is served. There's about 30 TVs blasting Sky News from every angle. Good for a sports bar but not for breakfast.
