Went for a meal last night. Mum had prawn cocktail and we both had steaks. One of the best cooked sirloin steaks I've ever had. Shane said his ribeye was superb. Excellent service. Thoroughly recommend.

Had parents 60th meal. Staff and hospitality was brilliant. No complaints at all. Even the small thing of bringing out the umbrella for mum as it was raining was a great start to a great nite. Credit to all the staff for making us all welcome.

Used The Crown as a Brit Stop overnight stay in my campervan. Staff were very welcoming. Dog friendly. Locals are friendly too even when politics was discussed and I put in a counter view! Enjoyed my evening meal of lasagne and bread and butter pudding. Typical wholesome pub fayre.

We went as a family of 5 for the first time yesterday. Food was absolutely amazing. Didn’t have to wait very long, service was excellent. Brilliant changing facilities for our baby. Will be returning on a regular basis.

I went to the Crown Inn last night with friends and there was a very warm welcome, all the staff were very accommodating and friendly. We wanted just a dessert and although the kitchen was shut they delivered and it was amazing, obviously homemade. The Crown Inn is soon to be our new local and I can't wait to try the food, looks delicious! I am very lucky to have this gem of a pub on my door step. We also like the fact it is doggy friendly too! Happy Days.

Good selection of drinks, but pretty expensive. I was paying same price for drinks that I would in bars in central London. Nice atmosphere (quiet when we were there) good quick bar staff, plenty of parking. Food looked good (we didn't eat), came out still sizzling and smelled nice.

Lovely pub, friendly atmosphere. The food was really great, good size portions, certainly the highlight. There was a fair wait even though it wasn't that busy. Lost a star due to the waitress managing to forget some of the food order, not returning with drinks ordered for almost half hour, then forgetting the doggy bag of left over beef. Other than that a very nice meal in a lovely village pub. I would certainly recommend to others.

Lovely place and owners really nice food had a great time. Took a special friend from Canada meet up from 34 years thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanx so much.

First visit since under new ownership, plenty ofchoice on pub menu. Salmon skillet was faultless mum thoroughly enjoyed it, steaks were cooked perfectly and very tasty, personally I would describe the chips as steak chips not gourmet. Staff very polite and attentive had a lovely evening. But people need to to remember this is pub grub not to be confused with gastro pub grub, you get what you paid for a well cooked tasty meal which is good value for money. Will be returning.

Decided to finally try this pub for a meal. The food was fresh, well presented, hot and very delicious. Lovely atmosphere, very polite friendly staff, definitely dog friendly with friendly locals too. The best food we've found for quite some time. Cosy and welcoming with clean toilets too. We will definitely be making this a regular place to come and bring family and friends to as well. Thank you to the crown and all the staff for a lovely trip out and wonderful service.

Very disappointing food. I wish what we were served looked half as good as the photos on here. The Nachos I ordered came with very little melted cheese, sour cream or Guacamole, my friends mushrooms in peppercorn sauce with Stilton looked revolting. The thin slice of Stilton had been laid over the top of the mushrooms, not even melted. The salad on another friends starter looked about a week old. Presentation of all 3 starters was very poor. We had ordered rib-eye steaks, the chef appeared and apologised saying they had run out. He recommended sirloin instead and assured us they would be lovely! They were anything but. When we made a complaint about the steaks, the chef tried to tell my friend that if she asked for "well done" steak then it was going to be tough. She had actually asked for medium, and specifically asked the waitress for it to be pink but not bloody. They completely messed up the orders, 2 steaks were supposed to come with Stilton, again a thin slice just laid on top — we should have guessed this would be the case from the mushroom debacle, so had to be sent back. Nobody asked would we like any sauces/mustards etc. We had to tell the waitress (not Lindsey who was lovely) not to charge us for the mushrooms which had been sent back. Even after complaining to the chef, nobody from the management came to ask us about our experience or offer any discount on what I can only describe as very poor food.

Comfortable but basic stay. Perfect for our needs while hiking. Friendly and helpful staff. Great beer garden. Food not quite as hoped but there are lots of amazing local restaurants close by.

Nice village pub with good food, can get very busy Sundays so probably best to book, dog friendly too! Just been here for lunch, after many years of using the place to eat and drink, today's visit was incredibly disappointing, as a Norfolk person not adverse to banter etc I found a couple of the locals offensive and deeply unpleasant, another was singing badly and out of tune and loud. Food arrived after the poor girl delivering it had been seen walking past various windows before finding us. The chips on my wife's plate were cold and the wraps for my fajitas had literally just been taken out of the packet from the fridge. To be honest we would have got a better meal and better value had we gone to the dreaded Macdonald's. Very sad. I should add that it has changed hands since my previous review. A sad day!

Shock horror! One of our favourite lunchtime Pubs has changed after donkeys years and stopped the lunchtime buffet, which was always a cut above and used local ingredients and a bit of pride and love! New owners no doubt wish to make their mark but a normally fullish restaurant everyday of the week had only us in it after being there an hour! The food we had from new menu was adequate but not worth the 30 minute journey we happily made in the past for more years than we care remember! Message to Pub owners do not ignore the lack of old customers. This is a message, so unless you can improve on what you previously had … beware!

Great beer, great food, great staff, great atmosphere, just a great pub.

Just had a superb meal at The Crown Inn Gayton. The steak was done to perfection, portion size good as I was hungry and food lovely and hot. Compliments to the chef and kitchen staff.

Well what can I say! I visited The Crown at Gayton recently it has always been a very popular location to me friends and family, Unfortunately not this time… Walked in to find a deserted pub with no atmosphere and very sterile non inviting. The buffet was up to its high standard as usual, however the waitress informed me that the buffet will be finishing soon, BIG MISTAKE. The only saving grace to any part of my experience that day was seeing the friendly barmaid who never fails to welcome me and shows a great consideration for myself and other customers. Will not be returning what a shame a good local country pub has changed and not for the better.

If you are holidaying in Norfolk, book a table for lunch here as you can't go wrong with home-cooked meals, buffets and roast dinners. It really is a great pub, the food is top notch. P. S. If you are tall, mind your head on the ceiling beams.

Wow, my wife and I had a fabulous lunch today. We just turned up and was greeted by neil and seated in our own little snug. The food was excellent and we were well attended to. We will definatley return and hopefully bring our friends along too.

Meal was very good staff where very polite. Can highly recommend it. Carvery excellent.

Gaytons locals pub. Only standard beers on tap. Good Sunday lunch, however. New landlord recently so this may change!

Had a lovely meal at The Crown celebrating Mother's day. The food was excellent and the owners/staff very friendly. Will definitely be going there again.

Very disappointed… starter stilton mushrooms came deep fried and mushrooms raw inside. Chicken strips were greasy. Husband asked for blue steak no mushrooms, as they make him Ill. Steak came with mushrooms swimming in the juice from them. Sent back next steak was medium to well done. No sauce to go with steak. Very poor for £18.95. Service awkward and slow. Menu limited. Bar staff terrible. Will definitely not return.

Lovely meal, great service. Under new ownership and looking forward to it being more family friendly with events. Good prices.

An excellent Sunday Roast with, help yourself portions of well cooked meats. We have been there a number of times and during the quieter times of the day, the food could be a little hotter.

A lovely old pub that serves great home made food at great prices all day buffet is not to be missed. Greene king beers on tap at reasonable prices. Staff are friendly and attentive. Quaint little sings and open fires make it very inviting.

Stunning old — worldy pub with loads of cozy, private sitting areas, their food is always super fresh and the staff couldn't be friendlier or happier. The Crown really is one of those places that oozes comfort. And as a bonus they are very reasonably priced.

This is a lovely little country pub/inn / restraunt. The room we were in had a quirky low entrance but the room was comfortable with an ensuite shower wc. The food in the Restraunt was very good My sirloin was perfect as was the gammon. Breakfast was very tasty and again very good. The pub has a very friendly feeling with locals being friendly as well.

Father's Day — We had previously enjoyed two trips to The Crown Inn, these were sphere of the moment meals, which were thoroughly enjoyable (although over 21 months ago). After trying to book some of our usual pubs for a Father's day meal we were delighted when they could cater for our table of six. When we tried order our main meals at 5.45pm we were bluntly told that the evening menu didn't start until 6pm, we were not expecting our meal to arrive in five minutes, reluctantly the Landlady took our orders, early. When it came to the meal we asked for a highchair for our 16 month old Daughter, to which another blunt reply "we don't have highchairs", we have eaten in many establishments across the UK since having a young child, this is the only time we have ever experienced this! we would have been told this when we booked apparently, although we were not informed. Food time — three of our party (including myself) opted for the carvery, it was at best a 3/10, the beef was incredibly tough, the vegetables were not fresh and we had to endure frozen Yorkshire puddings, the other meals were bland. When it came to paying we (my partner and her brother) had agreed to treat their father, he is an unwell man and it is likely that this will be his last Father's day, the bill came to £90.15, we were told we couldn't split the 5p so we both had to pay £45.10, we wouldn't have left a tip, but had no option.

Saturday 3rd June. Lunch booked today (should have been alerted when we were told we were the only table booked)! What a disappointment. Not the expected hot buffet but a cold salad selection with the addition of a lukewarm pork and apple pie! We alerted the young male staff that there were blue bottle flies on the seafood to which he replied "I can put covers on when you have served yourselves"! We felt really cheated, £33 for the most unappetising meal we have had in a long time. Even the female bar staff couldn't raise a smile and we couldn't hear nor understand what she was saying. Won't be going again.

Amazing food Good value friendly establishment.

Stayed one night in the B&B, didn't eat in the restaurant or drink in the pub. The room was perfectly adequate and had the essentials and can't fault anything really. My only advice to guests here is bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper: the walls are thin and the traffic will be your alarm clock!

By far the best pub experience on our travels to date. Authentic atmosphere, hearty homemade food, efficient service. Well worth seeking out.

Dropped in with friends for drink, staying in caravan at nearby Grimston. Staff really friendly, very busy with sunday lunch carvary bookings but still room for us to have an impromptu sunday roast! Food excellent. Looking forward to returning and trying more from their menu and we recommend the cider! We need more pubs like this one.

I stayed here last week and I have no hesitation in describing the Crown at Gayton as the best pub in East Anglia. It's open all day for food and drink, the food is excellent and sensibly priced, the staff are friendly and helpful — — all this in a characterful building hundreds of years old. I didn't know a soul, but I ended up chatting with the locals at the bar all night. I was staying on business, but I'll be back for pleasure — — and so will my four-legged pal, Herbie. It's the most dog-friendly place I've ever stayed. Ignore that pathetic bad review left by somebody. I know a good pub when I visit one and this is superb. A special thank-you to the lovely Lynne and the team. See you all soon.

Whilst traverling from k/lynn to Norwich I called in to this nice little pub. On entering I waited for service when assistance arrived asked if they had table for two the answere was I dont think so but I will check then ok yes we have a free table. We ordered our drinks and where escorted to one of the dining rooms we looked around and saw at least 6 empty tables?. The person — waitress gave us a table and said the buffet is over there. We made our way to the buffet and could not believe what was there only one piece of chicken we asked if they could get more and the server said no more. They had what was supposed to be bubble and squeek what a mess, corn beef hash, mash potatoes and hard uncooked roast potatoes not roasted but deep fried?. We should have left but did not want to seem rude and eat some.

Very nice pub. Welk maintained and great food. I am a bit biased as it is my local but in comparison to others in the area it is among the top five worthy of a visit.
