Beautiful location, superb food, good wine list, excellent staff. What more could you ask? The George has everything…and, in warmer weather, a great garden with sea views and fun vibe. It’s a real treat for us on our sailing trips to Yarmouth.

We love your facilities and location in Yarmouth. Your breakfast is exceptional and bar restaurant, outstanding, with a gorgeous view of the sea. 5 stars all the way.

Beautiful Location and this time just popped in for a quick lunch time Pizza. Wow to the Pepperoni Pizza, and my Grandson said wow to the Margarita Pizza …. Perfect ❤️

Charges a service fee of 12.5% for eating at the place, then when asked who the money goes to (namely there hard working staff and not the owners pockets) they remove the posts. Shameful.

Great food and lovely setting. Very helpful staff. If you are on a budget this is not the place to eat. However the oysters and sea bass carpacio were delcious.

Even though social distancing was still in place we were greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere. The food was excellent, many different meals were ordered and everyone enjoyed what they ate. We were surprised with 3 different cakes, 2 birthday and one anniversary which were not only beautifully presented but were delicious. Thanks to all the staff who really looked after us and thank you to the young lady who made the cakes, you are very talented.

Beautifully decorated for Christmas, went with a friend for a breakfast absolutely delicious smashed advocado with poached eggs, we we’re celebrating something and asked if we could have a glass of champagne at about 11, after we chose the one we wanted the waitress took our order then a few minutes later the waiter came over and told us they don’t have a license to sell alcohol until 12! So we couldn’t have it! We were a bit shocked and disappointed.

Poor service! Normally excellent, but poor service today with starter order completely missed!

We took advantage of the 2-course set menu and ferry travel offer. All very straightforward, the staff were very helpful. The food was superb — I had the scotch egg to start, cooked to perfection. I then had risotto, again absolutely delicious! The waiting staff were great and the hotel itself is a lovely venue. Can highly recommend and we can't wait to go back.

Lovely venue, shame about the complete neglect of responsibility to protect their customers. No PPE worn by staff, no social distancing, no ventilation in the restaurant and no cleaning regimes to be seen. Really disappointing.

Lovely venue but service was the slowest we have ever experienced. Two and a half hours to serve 2 courses to 2 people?! £39 for a grisly sirloin steak — I had to leave half of it as it was making me gag! Don’t mind paying that price if the meat is excellent quality but I have cooked much better myself at home. Very over priced for the poor quality food and service. This was supposed to be our ‘special’ Saturday night meal out whilst on holiday. Very disappointing…

Lovely location, waitress started not to well,
My daughter requested a table for lunch,
Said find a seat we will come over in 20 minutes. Which did not happen, I had to go find the waitress, who looked baffled!
Then we were offered one of the many empty tables.
Menus arrived, we waited waited waited, then had to go look for our waitress, who turned up with the menus again, we immediately placed our order, I saw the manager talking to the waitress, not sure what they were talking about, but he then came over, asking for our order, very strange.
The food came out in a reasonable time, the food was also ok.
I just felt the whole experience was not as we have had in the past.
I eventually went up to pay the bill service added already, which happy to pay, the waitress was then very friendly, probably had an earlier bad experience.

Had a fantastic dinner here last night for my partners birthday. The staff were brilliant, in particular Rosie who went out of her way for us. We'll definitely be back!

Rob and his team made our visit truly memorable. I brought my Father back to The George to have lunch (which was fabulous) as he worked there over 60 years ago. It was a wonderful experience for my Dad who was warmly welcomed and given an experience to cherish. Thank you so very much. Lev Osman.

I haven’t been lucky enough to spend the night at this establishment, yet … but we have been for cocktails etc. And I highly recommend it! Friendly staff, excellent food, wonderful location!

Apart from the amazing atmosphere, the beautiful garden backing onto a private beach which our children enjoyed for hours on end, the staff were so smiley and helpful. They couldn’t have done more to make sure we ate even though we ordered after serving had finished. We just hadn’t thought after enjoying the day what time it was but they still made us all food. We didn’t want to leave so we will be back for sure. Thank you for a lovely day in the sunshine. Our muscles were incredible! xx.

The new owners are doing an amazing job and clearly know this industry. Can't tell you how much I love The George hotel. The new landscape garden is amazing. If your ever In Yarmouth this place is a must.

Great vibe … fantastic friendly bar staff, locals very welcoming & reasonably priced food & drink & of course the view of the sea & the yacht bobbing past, chill out & relax.

You are all really friendly staff and very nice hotel and me and my family I had a very nice lunch and very nice bedrooms and very nice views of the sea. I hope to see you all again soon x.

One of the worst dining experiences of my life. A beautiful location for sure however the service was truly appalling. Followed by a very poor and very over priced meal. The drink prices would be laughable if you weren't actually expected to pay. Then to rub salt into an already angry wound, your forced to que for an eternity to pay for your insulting disaster of an experience. I don't blame the juvenile minimum waged staff. I blame the seemingly invisible management. To top it all the place was half empty, god only knows what it would be like if it ever got busy.

The restaurant has a relatively uncomplicated but well balanced menu. Staff were friendly and accommodating to families. The best thing is the location, right next to the castle and with a small beach leading onto the sea. Views in the evenings are great, and its a nice place to come for a meal or just evening drinks.

Food was ok. Booked for afternoon tea for a birthday. Had to wait nearly 45 mins to get seated and that was only after they were chased up again. Would probably have been better service if they didn't have a wedding there but if you are going to go for a certain standard you have to give it to everyone not the chosen few. Wasn't cheap so would probably not go back again. My cousin has gone here again since with a group of friends and same problem. Won't bother giving it a third chance.

Chef needs to look at portion control, Turbot fish not correct, comparable price. I am a fish chef from London. Otherwise exelent.

What a pity! The setting is amazing, the food was good but the service was awful. Took 30 minutes to order or get any attention and a glass of water, bearing in mind it’s the hottest day of the year today! The staff have no clue and the manager didn’t appear to either. Even when complaining the manager didn’t apologise for the slow service. Took a further 15 minute to get a wine menu. When the wine came, it wasn’t chilled and we had to wait before drinking — also got tee wrong bottle … made Faulty Towers look organised.

I didn't think such wonderful little hotels still existed. As far as I'm concerned The George is pretty well my idea of a PERFECT HOTEL: Wonderful historic building carefully adapted for hotel use. Beautifully decorated and presented with flower arrangements. In a superb location in the heart of the attractive village and with wonderful views across the Solent. A charming and helpful receptionist who by the second day has memorised ones name. A charming bedroom with ensuite bathroom, where careful thought has been given to what guests need — a support for two suitcases, a wardrobe with shelves so belongings can be tidied away, shelves next to the washhand basin for two toilet bags, etc, etc.
Then there is breakfast taken in a delightful room overlooking The Solent and Henry VIII's fort. A splendid option of food, including kippers, served cheerily at ones table as opposed to being presented with a food searching initiative test! I could go on but I hope my point has been made.

Love the George hotel but the lamb shoulder I ordered was disappointing and left me hungry. Not worth the money for the food. Depending what you have but the views from the beer garden made up for it.

Wonderful food (the chips are to die for) great choice, excellent surroundings and views — a very good place for celebrations or indeed for no reason… just enjoy!

We had an overnight stay here, the room was spotless and spacious and had everything we needed.
Reception staff were very helpful with booking taxis for us and went over and above to return by post some sunglasses my husband accidentally left in the room

Lovely warm welcome by staff and literally with a log fire. Hand pump beer took 15 mind to change but it was worth the wait!

Very shockingly poor hotel. Tiny rooms at £160 a night. We heard beer bottles being thrown in a bottle bin right outside our bedroom window ALL NIGHT long, cigarettes being smoked in the same area which was blowing into our window. Not at all suitable for our baby! Creaking floorboards throughout the hotel which kept us up all night. Seems that The George used to be a half decent hotel a little while back from the other reviews on here and elsewhere, but until it improves I would massively AVOID this place. Management seem unable to recognise any fault here, and offer nothing but a defensive attitude along with no apologies. I believe this is where the problem lies. Very unfortunate! Left a review on TripAdvisor and received a comment back from Brian Garside "General Manager", saying we were abusive! Somehow I don't think so! This is what has made me also leave a second poor review on their Facebook page.

Disappointing. Head chefs night off? Eating at Islas Conservatory — the best thing was the £40 Sancerre we drank. An under seasoned overcooked macaroni with lobster & black pudding (the black pudding just warmed and no crisp crunch to offer contrast from the pasta) A seafood platter served, with a speck of limp bruised lettece, a supposedly 'lemon' mayonnaise (yet could actually see the spooned marks in the 'straight out of the tub' anemic mayonnaise) Oysters I asked not to be included, scoop of crab / smoked salmon, yet nothing to eat it with — no bread to accompany but luckily ordered chips on the side (also poor quality frozen fries) … Dessert equally disappointing … I could go on. … … All in all won't be returning. If the set menu is great then I'm pleased for those customers … Yet this place smacks of a place where the clientele have too much money to care. £120 spent Inc wine. I'd rather gone to wetherspoons the cooking was that poor.

I have been going there for over ten years and have to say that the management and service has gone down hill. When you are paying ￡95 for high tea for four people you expect pretty good service. Food that we received eventually after lots of trips by the staff was good. Hope it improves.

Lunch on the lawn in the sunshine with live music was fantastic. Food was nice, service friendly and setting was perfect. Would definitely recommend if you are in Yarmouth.

Have waited a long time to have a meal at The George and it was perfect. Lovely table in the garden with fabulous selection on the foodmenu which was cooked and presented too perfection. Fabulous selection of wine and can recommend the Italian rose two bottles went down really nicely. Sunday could not be spent any better with live music thrown in. All the staff made you feel very welcome and the sun was out for the perfect 3hrs.

Beautiful hotel and restaurant. Garden is perfect for summer al-fresco dining, with a great view of the Solent. Food was a little slow to arrive — but we knew that in advance as they had a large group in before us — but was worth the wait!

We visited for an evening meal in February and found it welcoming and quiet. We sat in the wood panelled bar by an open fire while we ordered and then progressed to the stylish dining area in the conservatory. I'm not sure I would want to eat there in the summer when it is busy, although there is a lovely garden bordered by the castle walls. The food was beautifully arranged but not plentiful. The art and flavour were more notable than than quantity. The staff were very welcoming, attentive and friendly.

Excellent food, wonderful service. I would recommend this to anyone and Robert Thompson is on fine form. Excited to hear about the new fine dining room at the restaurant although a great selling point to me was the accessibility and lack of pretension at the new restaurant. One of the best meals I've had. Go. The hotel was also brilliant with beautiful rooms with views across the harbour and the Solent. Breakfast was the best I've had and all staff were polite and helpful. One of the best nights sleep I've had. Go.

Had Sunday lunch here last week, and it was amazing. Roast pork celeriac dauphinois (? ) and vegetables. Not your average Sunday roast by a long long way. Dessert was Rhubarb panacotta, just superb. Next visit to the Island and we'll be back.

This a great place to stay, very pleasant and helpful staff, excellent food, lots of history. Parking was a little problem but easily solved. Really looking forward to going back soon.
