We visited while on holiday,, the food was fantastic, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The kids loved the play area and games room. Well worth a visit if you are on holiday.

We visited on our last nite of our holiday and had a fantastic meal, staff were really friendly, and the food was amazing, dog friendly and a huge play area for the kids to wear themselves out, will definately be back next time we are on holiday 😁

Food is excellent. Service is terrible. I’ve pressed the call button 3 times and I waited 30 minutes before being served.

As always lovely food and service. It’s a little pricey but we’ve never had a bad meal here. They have adapted to Covid regulations really well and we had some really nice lunches here while on the IOW this HT. Great playground for kids too!

Wonderful accommodation, every detail has been thought about. Lovely countryside location, roaring open fires and a great, friendly atmosphere. We received a super welcome from Jen and so glad we are here. Looking forward to our dinner from the excellent menu.

We went for a birthday meal About 12 of us went it was absolutely beautiful everyone’s meal cooked to perfection We have been a few times since.

Very nice family eatery with large play area with views across farmland. The inside was bright and airy but a little clinical, perhaps in the winter with the log fire burning it might take on a cozier atmosphere. The staff were very friendly but slow, with the bar in one section closed. A fairly varied menu of the pub scene slightly disappointed with the specials board. The food was ok but a little expensive for what was offered, although they served very nice coffee. 7 out of 10.

Our visit was perfect. The food was extremely tasty, not your run of the mill menu, but there was something for everyone on the menu including my 8 year old grandson. Families were all made very welcome by the staff and we had a wonderful waitress, who was very friendly and excellent at interaction with my grandson. Lovely indoor and outdoor play area too. Definitely recommend a visit if you fancy a change from the bog standard visit to a family restaurant. Two of us had 3 courses and four had 2 courses with 6 alcoholic drinks and 2 soft drinks it worked out at just over £140. Excellent value for money with 5 service and food.

Well I remember this place from my youth as being a bit spit and sawdust with a menu of frozen chips, please and pies. How times change! I've just had what has to be one of the best meals ever. And it just on the Island! Seriously good food, extremely reasonably priced. Well done The Chequers!

Beautiful food thanks to the new owners. I had the goat curry and it was out of this world. Carveries are on a Sunday and they will not disappoint. Lovely settings, huge outdoor play area for the children and gaming room for both children & adults. Lots of seating inside and out. I would highly recommend to both islanders and holiday makers An easy 5 stars.

The ONLY negative for this review is that we tried it so late in our holiday. We ended up coming two consecutive days. The staff are helpful and friendly, the place is attractive and family friendly, the park made a 34 year old woman want to play in it, the setting is beautiful, the food is exquisite and cooked to perfection. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Price wise? Worth every penny… great job guys, may see you again next year!

Visited twice whilst on holiday in July, food really excellent both times, reasonably priced and it was served quickly both times. Great outdoor play area, and lovely (recently refurbished) building. Sat outside first time and so ordered at bar, which worked really well, second time sat inside so had table service which didn't work quite so well, waited a while for the bill and found the waitresses were not as attentive as they could have been. No big issue, but that is why it missed out on 5 stars.

Was very hot when we went for lunch, not their fault but air conditioning or fans might have helped. We all had carvery but wasn't as nice as a previous visit. Roast potatoes were so crispy they were almost missiles and roast beef, which looked lovely, was so tough you couldn't cut it and when you did it took some chewing. The turkey, pork and gammon were all beautiful and staff friendly and efficient. The pub itself is lovely, nice and clean and big play area for the kids.

The food was absolutely amazing! Best meals we've ever eaten on the island in 20 years. Strongly recommend going there, we will definitely be returning.

Nice position but seems to be targeting diners more now since refurbishment as all tables apart from 2 set out for dining. Lost some of its character.

Was recommended chequers inn by a friend who visited. Food was really nice, However service was extremely slow considering it was lunch time and was fairly quiet. We spent 2.5 hours there in total eating mains and dessert. We ended up helping myself to a menu after waitress asked if she could interest us in sweets after not returning back to us for at least 15mins, even though she walked passed us a countless number of times. Although the food was great and they're is a lovely play area for kids, for the price of the food the service wasn't up to standard.

Our second meal very recently at the Chequers Inn was again superb. With a comprehensive menu including a smaller size option there is nothing here not to like. Ideal for families with a games room and outdoor play area for the younger generation completes this venue's range of great facilities. The quality of service is impeccable and prices very reasonable. Will definitely be back to the Chequers soon.

Amazing night. I remember Chequers beeing not so welcoming pub so we decided to give it a chance after refurbishment and new owners. I can't remember when I had suck an amazing night. Food was amazing, good portions with amazing taste. Staff was amazing, everyone was so welcoming, friendly and entertaining. Amy (I do apologize if it is Amie) was amazing. She is a person that makes your day and experience one to remember. Amazing sense of humour and hospitality, definitely has qualities that are hard to find in staff this day. She will be my main reason of returning as well as her colleagues. Definitely worth visiting! Amie you are amazing!

Poor very poor chicken burger with bone and skin on with hard as wood buns. Management rude. One till at bar had to wait ages… rarther eat at McDonald's also electrics hanging over the servery didn't look very safe or hygienic.

Pleasantly surprised superb meal that exceeded expectation. Desert (warm alabama fudge cake with cream) was a delight.

A favourite place for food on gge island. Fabulous garden fir the children. Fresh scummy food and friendly service.

Food was fantastic. The pub was busy due to the Beer and Buses event but the staff kept the tables clean and the place tidy.

Last went to Chequers Inn about ten years ago and it was horrible! My family that live on island have been recently going there for breakfast and they said it was so lovely. Went the other day I couldn't fault it… lovely food, lovely staff. I can't wait to visit again!

This place has changed since our last visit. My wife's lasagne was very good quality as was the meat in my burger — delicious! The overall experience was slightly disappointing as I felt more like I was in a Yates pub rather than a nice country pub. It's difficult to define what it was that felt "off" but it is the whole experience that decides how soon people return. The comfy chairs have been removed from the main bar to cram in more tables for "punters" — maybe this makes it feel less comfortable and more — "eat your meal and leave".
Cant knock the quality of the food though — even if the burger did turn up without the bacon I had ordered, which was soon rectified and brought back to the table with an apology from the owner tbf.

We thought we would give it a go Sat evening had two Cod and Chips we were really pleased that they servered Sweet potato chips but the rather large pieces of Cod smelt slightly strange? I asked the waitress to report it to the chef She came back with reply the fish was fresh in (Friday)? I asked the Manager to investigate and he brought me out some paper work to say the fridges were fine and the fish was fresh in that day (Sat) Still unconvinced we left the meal it was too late too eat anything else we were offered a replacement meal also felt that the slight smell had repercussions and I was correct upset tummy that night won't be going back there. Staff seemed friendly but disconcernd about the incident! tbh it didn't have the same texture of Cod either!

Slow service stood for 20 mins just for 2 bottled beers at 7quid… Left and went to another pub for dinner as was so shocked with the service and general feel of the pub. Sorry its a no from me.

We visited here about 7 years ago and found it again today whilst driving about on the island. Had a lovely meal here. Carvery for 2, The Chequers burger, portion of cheesy chips and children's plain pasta. Plenty of cheese on the chips, burger was brilliant, plain pasta PREFECT for our little one with sensory issues. Carvery was good could just have been hotter. The garden was great for sitting in relaxing with a drink watching the children play. Affordable and friendly staff.

Basic pub food, nothing special, good for families with kids and dogs. Good parking, dart bord is a nice addition, still think this pub lacks atmosphere, it's a country pub without the country pub feel.

Nice, Traditional Country Pub. Large pub in the countryside, just outside Rookley. Step free access throughout. Very friendly staff. Food is great with a varied menu. Inside really does feel like a good traditional pub. The only bad thing is the disabled toilet is tiny and has two huge bins in it, making it impossible to get a wheelchair in there and be able to shut the door. Apart from this, a really great place.

I visited the Chequers with a group of about 15 very muddy mountain bikers in December 2016. The owners were absolutely lovely, offering us seating inside, reminding us that they had a vacuum cleaner and would clean up after us! However as it was an unseasonable warm day we took to the beer garden instead. The food here is very good. I went for a burger and it was absolutely delicious, and very reasonable priced. There was no complaints from our group at all, everybody well fed and watered after a long ride. The Inn itself is very nice, with stone flooring in part of the restaurant and nice cosy area at the other end with a large open fire. There is a nice children's room with games in and a large play area off the beer garden, which I am sure keeps the children entertained. Overall a very nice pub, I will definitely be visiting again, either during/after a mountain bike ride or with the family.

The chequers Inn is my dad's and my brother's favourite restaurant. The reason for our visit yesterday was because of the buffet, all you can eat style breakfast. We ordered out food at the main bar and then we went round into the middle dining room. We sat up in the back corner next to the window and the toilets. Even though the toilets were well used whilst we were there, we didn't notice a smell or any inconveniences. Usually in other restaurants, I try to avoid sitting near the toilets because I can't stand the smells. When we first sat down, there wasn't much breakfast left on the buffet, under the heat lamps. But the chef soon cane out with some freshly cooked food. The cooked breakfast choice consisted of: bacon, sausages, fried bread, fried eggs, black pudding, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes and hashbrowns. There was also tea/coffee facilities, a toaster and lots of brown and white bread, juice and other spreads such as Marmite and jam that you could also use on your toast. This was brilliant for us because my brother is very fussy and he will only eat Marmite on toast and sausages for his breakfast. All the food was cooked beautifully, especially the sausages and you could also put in specific requests to the chef without any extra charge. For example; another couple that was also having the all you can eat/buffet style breakfast, preferred scrambled eggs so they asked the chef and he cooked it for them and didn't charge them any extra.

I think this place has the best Sunday roast on the Isle of Wight! 12:00 — 21:00 in a great country pub. Kids play area, pool, bat games and a good selection of beers. Staff are usually pretty happy too!

Had our Easter Sunday roast here, good atmosphere and friendly staff. Food was planty and good quality. Definitely worth a stop especially on a rainy day!

Good food and good friendly staff would reckemend to any one who likes good hearty meals would rekemend the mixed gril.

This is a favourite of ours for family dining, consistantly good food. Tables that can accomodate large groups, been going back for over eight years likely to be 20+ visits in that time and never a bad experience which is a testiment to how well this place is managed. Outside area is great for kids. Try the mixed grill, it seriously takes some beating!
