Avoid at all costs! I have today had my original booking cancelled for 2021 because the hotel have realised they can get more money for the room. So my room is now up for double the original price online. Appalling behaviour from a business, avoid!

Not as Advertised not good for people with limited mobility parking is almost impossible tried to park for an hour before parking on double yellow lines to attempt to get assistance as I struggle to walk the reception person just showed me A4 print showing all parking within a mile away I said I could not walk she just shrugged and said it is advertised and we do not do refunds would love to be able to give good review but £288 pounds down as I could not use and they refuse to refund me STAY CLEAR if you have any disability they dont care!
Very poor customer service in 2019 I would expect better for disabled people.

Good value and location for the money. The front desk were friendly, accomodating, and efficient. I did not like the first room given to me because ot smell like cigarettes and mold (it's a 17th century building) eventhough it was a non-smoking room. Unit was right above the Pub and window was open. Also, the toilet was not en-suite. The Management promptly moved me the next day to a detached unit in the back with an en-suite toilet for just an additional £5. The new room was much nicer and quieter. Thank you!

Near Gunwharf Quays, just 10 minutes walking, shopping are convenient,
Staff are friendly.

Our room was clean and to a good standard, with en-suite shower and wc. Ideal for a short break and 5 minutes walk from Gunwharf and Historic Dockyard.
Would definitely stay again.

Decent 'above pub' accommodation, bathroom looked brand new, room had all facilities you could need and for the price can't fault it, stairs only to all floors so no good if you need a lift, but I'd stay again for sure.

Went in to get some food on a Saturday night. (Not all tables were taken so it didn’t look overly busy) We sat ourselves down and were completely ignored. We sat for what felt like 15 mins. Probably closer to 10 and three waitresses walked past us without even acknowledgement. A simple ‘hello’ or ‘I’ll be with you shortly’ would have done. When we got up to leave one waitress finally came to see us. With no clear apology or concern that we had just sat there. Really disappointing and we felt really uncomfortable. Unfortunately, we are unlikely to return.

Reasonably priced drinks and delicious food! The room prices are also outstanding and the staff are so friendly! We've used this place twice and haven't been disappointed. Will definitely continue to come here!

The worst afternoon tea I’ve ever had… We booked an afternoon tea via Groupon and made reservations direct as per the instructions, where I also indicated that we could not have any fish on the sandwiches. Upon arrival we were told we were being charged £5 for the menu swap (the swap that cost this extra money salmon and cream cheese was exchanged for cucumber and cream cheese) … I could not believe it. I explained that I wasn’t advised of this when booking but got the whole new staff routine. The sandwiches were fine the cakes and scones However where not… the scones arrived pre cut (had begun to get dry) and were served with jam and whipped cream (yes whipped.

I selected this pub to provide the catering for my 50th birthday party held at my house. I chose the paella and salads option — what a great choice! The food was delicious and plenty of it too. Special thanks to Charlotte and her helper for making it such a memorable and enjoyable occasion for me. Would highly recommend. Thanks again.

We stumbled across this gem of a place whilst wandering. They start serving food from 5pm which was perfect for us as we were in town for a show at the Guildhall. Super menu, nice atmosphere & friendly staff. Clean and tidy with good facilities.

Went in on a Sunday for their designated roast day, can't complain as usual good sized portions at a great price and the food quality is never a disappointment.

Lovely place, very clean and nice staff. Reasonably priced, close enough to the center that we didn't use the car for our whole trip.

I attended an reunion party for 21 people here the food and service was excellent. Friendly staff could not do enough to help. There was plenty of room to mingle around the tables in the allocated area for the party. I will be definitely be thinking of going back at a later date.

+ Staff accommodating before arrival, good location, very clean and tidy, free parking permit — Lots of stairs (no elevator), sadly I didn't sleep well I could hear doors banging so loudly with people talking through the night. The shower was varying cold temperatures and it was with broken head. No hand towels which is unusual, wanted to ask but we normally got back late and the reception closes at 9 or 10pm. I dont think I would stay here again.

Great location short walk from Seafront, Gunwharf Quays and Historic Dock Yards. Good sized room 8 with double and a single bed. Parking is free but you do need a pass from reception which has limited opening hours.

What a great value for money. And there was plenty coffee and tea. And a good location.

Sorry to say not what was expected. We were lead to believe that we were in a cottage. … only to stay in a converted garage. Clean, no heating in the closet bathroom. Pub very good.

It's hard to fault the place other than the old rustic pub like smell in the corridors and room. The shower head was loose which made for an interesting shower, and finally there is an issue with the plumbing where an annoying grumbling sound followed by a trickling of water kept us awake in the early hours of the morning when next doors occupants had their morning shower and used their toilet.

Personally wouldn't stay again. After paying over £400 we expected a decent stay, however this was not the case. Very very noisy. Complained twice, and got two different stories as to why it was like this. Have both left full of cold due to lack of sleep and I missed a meeting as I was to exhausted to go. Yes earplugs are provided but the hotel should not assume everyone can wear them. The noise outside on a Saturday night was almost non existent, car parking was fab and housekeeping was excellent. Just the awful soundproofing that let it down, can hear people talking, people actually going to the loo, and the constant sound of niagra falls coming through our bathroom. We are due to be coming to Portsmouth again, but sadly I don't think we will be coming here.

Room a bit small and lacking amenities such as a towel rail. But clean, comfortable bed and very well located.

Room is clean and a good size. Was worried about being a pub but could hear nothing. For the price and location you really can't go wrong.

This is a nice pub in old Portsmouth. Good choice of food.

If you want to hear someone yawn in the room next door but one, this is the place for you. Do you want to share a bathroom with 5 other room's? Don't worry about not being able to grab a shower before you check out, there isn't a queue probably because the shower is freezing cold.

Good place to stay when visiting Portsmouth. In the area of old Portsmouth but only walking distance from the town. Serves a nice pint at normal pub prices and does reasonable b&b.

I liked the layout of the restraunt and there was a nice menue but we couldent finde the drinks menue also most of the chairs were wobbly overal I enjoin the food the most.

Very good restaurant quality food though the same cannot be said for the ambiance — the restaurant is very 70's and looks like it's falling apart any time soon. Staff is great. Rooms are great but it's a bit tight in some places.

Brilliant hotel! Very well priced and room was very good condition. Good sized shower and room. Opted for the late checkout for an additional £5, will definitely be staying again.

A very pleasant surprise. We had received a gift Voucher from a relative in the Medway as a Christmas present. We mistakenly thought it was to be a cup of tea and a glass of wine. However it was "high tea". I thought if was comparable with "Tea at the Ritz", all that was missing was a lady playing the harp. We will definitely make The Duke of Buckingham a regular visit. I took my niece and nephew there for a meal. From the moment I enquired at the bar about a table right through to paying the bill, the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and the portion sizes were huge. I will definitely go back in the near future.

Stayed in room 7. Reception staff friendly, rooms clean and of a reasonable standard, but TV did not work and whilst there were mugs for tea and coffee, there were no glasses, but that may be because there was hardly enough room in the shower cubicle/toilet for a human, so the omission of glasses was perhaps understandable. Overall, the place was pleasant and in a nice location (although noisey at closing time! ) When we tried to book a table for dinner, there were none to be had! — clearly paying hotel guests come way down the list of priorities, so we had to take a cab to an alternative restaurant for dinner. There is too big a choice of budget hotels in this area to make the same mistake twice.

Nice atmosphere in the bar area and plenty of TVs to watch the rugby. Beer cold, staff friendly and food menu looked promising. Would come back again to try the food!

Good service, friendly staff. Good wise I had a burger and it was really good, my other half a chicken supreme (I think) didn't enjoy that so much. Room ok, shower head needed fixing and the drain doesn't drain very quickly. Great access to beach/shops etc.

I ordered a coke and a chocolate sundae. Coke was a bit small for the price, the sundae was good value!

Fantastic accommodation, our room was extremely clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone visiting / staying in the area. Lots of parking nearby and a stones throw away from the sea! Thank you for a pleasurable stay!

Lovely hotel, lovely rooms, beautiful central location in old Portsmouth. Bar / restaurant was lovely, arrived at 9:01 but the kitchen closed at 9:00, so they reopened for us and the food was amazing!

We stayed for 3 nights and had a brill time, clean room, the staff were brilliant, Danny went out of her way to help us get the mobilty scooter recharged as there were sockets downstairs. Will stay there again next year.

We ate here a couple times over a two week work trip. The food was absolutely stellar and the service was great every night. The mixed grill has great cuts of meat and the hamburger is perhaps the best I have ever had. Mark, Phil, and I would easily recommend this to anyone.

Soup was cold ask three times for bread roll. Came after ate soup. Beef tough roast potato were frozen not fresh 13 of us was not impressed with our meal.

Absolutely lovely staff, and a good pub. Restaurant managed by a chef who clearly likes his job and is proud of what he does (I met him). Clean room, and, yes, the staff do show you to your room. Nice touch. I have only stayed for one night and I won't look for an alternative if they have a room free when I go to Portsmouth again. Oh yes, the word of advice — a small but important point: take your own shampoo and conditioner; they don't provide it.

We have just returned from 2 nights at the Duke of Buckingham and would highly recommend it, the rooms were extremely clean, staff could not do enough for you and the price and location perfect, A+.

Well went to the Duke of Buckingham today for a carvery dinner, I was not that impressed, the cost of the meal was £9.50, and as much as it filled me up, the vegetables let it down, the meat was nicely cooked and the gravy was very nice, but most of the vegetables were like a soft mushy consistency and the roast potatoes were to over cooked. That is not to say I did not enjoy the experience, the atmosphere is very nice as a pub, I will drink in there again, but I would not eat in there again.
