Reviews of Palmers Lodge Swiss Cottage 4*
Excellent in everything. Installation, service etc.
I loved the place is nice comfortable.
I love the interiors, the staff Is helpful and the location Is nice. We were under the roof, a mix in between Oliver Twist and Cinderella.
Lovely place my first hostel loved it super clean and friendly.
Palmers Lodge was very welcoming with a fantastic staff. Brin was very entertaining at the front desk! Beautiful old wooden building, quiet rooms and in a great location outside of the busy London area and just a block away from the tube.
Terrible staff. We heard the story of this supposed hostel rudely refusing to allow a woman to access a room that was pre paid because of an admin issue. Have some common decency. If I showed up at your door after a stressful travel situation a d you turned me away, I probably wouldnt know what to do on a winter's night in London. Put yourself in her situation next time. Shame on you.
Refusing an elderly lady accommodation even though it was paid for upfront is disgusting! I hope everyone sees how u treat your customers. Quick to take their money but refuse entry even though the room is paid for. Wont recommend this type of ‘establishment’ to anyone.
Vile behaviour by staff in refusing paid for accommodation for s vulnerable elderly woman because she didn’t have the right ID.
An outstanding hostel. Bathrooms and clean common areas, in a fantastic English style. A great room where you can read and relax, pub restaurant in which to eat good food and at a fair price. Laundry, kitchen and refrigerator to cook your own food, bedrooms very comfortable and quiet even those of 10 people. Always open 24 h. Staff helpful and kind. 5 minutes to 2 tube stops and buses arriving from Luton. I have never found such a nice and clean hostel!
A few minutes from Swiss Cottage underground station, perfect for visiting the city center. Basic breakfast availble at low cost. Dinners usually (but not always) available at the bar. Bathrooms are okay. Beds are good, curtains provide enough privacy. One thing I dislike: Lockers, shared with your bunk mate are under the beds, quite hard to get out and hard to fit a suitcase into them. Padlocks not provided, can be bought though. Towels cost money too. Finally, it's a good place to meet people if you're open to that! Many travellers, of all ages, often solo.
Helpful staff, we stayed in both private room and dorms. Private room was very nice. Dorm beds have curtains and lights which is great. The place is huge, and very nicely decorated. Lounge was a great place to hang out in.
Stayed here two times already and it has always been a pleasure! Rooms look great and are clean. Staff is friendly. Beds are comfortable and every bunk has their own power outlets for charging your stuff. Also really appreciated that there's female only bedrooms and a female only bathroom. Bathrooms are clean and showers work like a charm! Breakfast is great and inexpensive and there's a great selection of shops, supermarkets and restaurants in the area around the hostel. Also, even though there's a bar in the hostel, I was never bothered by any noise. There's some great communal areas like a lounge on the ground floor, the bar area downstairs and an outside area. Lastly, there's great connectoins to public transport, both by underground, bus and overground to anywhere in the city. Would definitely go again if I'm ever visiting London!
Decent hostel. Has lots of character. Pleasant and helpful staff. A bit disappointed tea and coffee didn't have milk in the lounge, but I guess I was okay using my own. Sofa spaces go quickly because it is popular with tourists. No fried eggs or scrambled eggs for breakfast, only boiled. Generally has lots to offer.
This is the best hostel I ever stay in London. It located in zone 2, a very classic and elegant building which built 140 years ago, it located in a peace and quiet community, got supermarkets nearby. Staff inside are helpful and friendly, they would offer you good suggestions to anywhere. Loos are very clean and tidy, the common areas are comfortable, never imagine there is a pub down the stairs but unfortunately they are fixing the genius’s tap so I have to try another brand. Overall, it’s a good hostel that sits near the City of London and you could travel to the airport conveniently.
My stay at this hostel was my first ever hostel stay, and I loved it! Everything was very clean, and my dorm was pretty quiet. All beds have light blocking curtains, so there's plenty of privacy and others' lights don't keep you up. I have had no issue with bathrooms or showers, and there's a cute bar and restaurant that serves breakfast in the morning, which is very convenient. Its right off the subway, so very easy access to the city. Highly recommend.
Great rooms, lovely stuff, breakfast spot on (4.5£ all you can eat, continental) outlets often full and constant problem with the room card. On the Jubilee line 4th stop from Bond street. I am very happy with my stay. 7.5 out of 10 and I would definitely go again.
Very nice hostel. If you want to calm still predict the earplugs.
Palmer's lodge is hands down the best hostel in London, beautiful building, comfy beds, curtains for bunks, easy access plugs & extension cables, friendly staff, breakfast canteen, social lounge with games and a bar. You can rent private rooms too. I've stayed in a lot of Hostels around London and had to live in them for a while and I can't recommend Palmer's lodge enough. Swiss cottage is also a easy place to travel from.
Fantastic hostel in London. Palmer's lodge was Staffed by friendly People and the building and facilities were well maintained. Only complaint is that they do not seem to have a noise policy. So things got pretty loud in common areas pretty late at night. But then again 24 hour front desk is fantastic!
In my opinion, one of the best value accommodation in London, especially for the "djeunes" (although the fifties that I am enjoyed staying there two nights). Count about €40 per night/person (breakfast included) for a room under the attic that can accommodate four people (1 double bed and two single beds), with sanitary and showers on the bridge. Alternatively, there are more or less large dormitories, with bunk beds, each equipped with a large secured drawer.
The lodge is ideally located, a 5-minute walk from the Swiss Cottage Metro station.
The reception 24/24 is nice, some employees are francophone, even French!
The place: a lodge in the purest English tradition, as it is thought to be transported in the world of Harry Potter: woodwork, mouldings, stained glass Windows on some doors, a majestic staircase where one crosses an armor… a maze of small corridors, vibrations of steps… and a lift to serve the floors and also access the basement.
The services offered seen and/or used:
— bar with tables for breakfast and/or festive evenings, adjoining a nice veranda equipped with it too.
— one room and secured lockers, for storing luggage.
— a room to store mouth supplies, a mini kitchen.
— sale of postcards and stamps, lifting of mail, sale of a few souvenir items.
Dorm is OK would have been kept clean by the forces. The bed was a bunk beds unfortunately I had to sleep upstairs. You can shadow but if you are looking up a long charging cable do not forget power plugs have 3 plugs. Lock for luggage on grant you can buy everything on site or at the supermarket. Washrooms small but maintained putzdame every day to see.
Makes a nice impression in the style has been really fun. Everyone should make his experience worthwhile.
Poor service!
Really lousy, clearly it costs little, but trotrotz not appropriate! Rooms stink, teenagers riot in the evening, house management does nothing!
The place is clean, the rooms are comfortable. Remember to plan 4 £ 5/person for lunch.
Great place, only minus very small beds, just some of the keys. The shower cabins are clean, the staff is friendly, the location is perfect!
To me, the best hostel in London : set in a beautiful manor, with very beautifully-decorated communal spaces, there's a nice bar and restaurant but an essential self-catering kitchen is also available, really awesome. Free coffee/tea. The prices are not so high, sometimes low for the place. I only find the price for breakfast a bit too much for a hostel, £4, 50. It's just my opinion but it shouldn't be over £3 in a hostel. Even if I'm sure it's good value — — "eat as much as you can".
It's not right in the centre, but not far — and not far from Regent's Park, Camden and Hampstead, plus transports are very convenient : quick and direct tube, and frequent buses direct to Oxford Street 24/24
Excellent place just need to improve the breakfast.
Beautiful hostel, very lively. Clean bathrooms, comfortable beds. Very crowded though. Better for short stays than long ones. The staff is very welcoming and it is close to the underground station and many bus lines.
Clean hostel, good prices and beautiful.
Very typical hostel (you would have thought you were in Pudlard (Harry Potter) ; nice breakfast; great price; interesting location to visit London.
This location is nice but not fancy. It's a good place to stay. Near the underground and some good restaurants.
Very beautifull und the are so friendly.
For the price you can't go wrong. Bed are comfortable and the place is kind of Victorian. Pub is good good selection of beverages and cheap :)
Very great place to stay. Those guys are awesome. I had lot of fun qt the reception. The room was clean, also the bathroom looked great. I had only one night there, but it was great.
Something away from the center. But highly recommended. Excellent attention, except the bearded bad wave of reception.
Very comfortable and clean and friendly staff.
Excellent. Ultra clean. Recommended.
To be a hostel is very good, this clean, has all the Servivios and good location.
All you can eat breakfast for low price. Great stay. Friendly staff. Good location. Close to Tube station. Would stay again. Low price.
Clean Cottage with very helpful and kind staff. I would definitely stay here again.
Beautiful. The staff was very helpful Clean.
Affordable and public amenities and areas are clean and well maintained. Great for a budget weekend away in London. I struggled a little as my room was in the attic and it was very dusty which really aggravated my cough whenever I was in the room overnight, but otherwise good experience. 5 minute walk to Swiss Cottage tube station which can connect you to most main attractions within 10-30 min. Quiet side street off the main road as well so it's not noisy at night. A lot of toilets and showers are available for all lodgers so even if the closest ones were taken you could walk a bit further to find more.
An Inn in the best British tradition! Splendid brick building, Interior in ancient woodwork, there is even an armor in the staircase: very Harry Potter!
Near the subway. Basic service but very friendly and efficient. Rooms are very small but not too expensive.
Beautiful interior and exterior, nice bar which is always fun and noisy. A great place for young people!
Hostel super well located, Metro nearby, very clean, friendly staff, breakfast buffet correct for the price. What has me most is the mansion atmosphere.
Very nice place. Comfortable. It's clean. Breakfast is paid aprte but it is complete.
Love this hostel! Nice mansion. Good service and friendly staff. Easy access by bus or tube. And oh… You would love to taste their hot chocolate!
A great place to stay in London. Communal rooms or private and en suite available at EXCELLENT prices. Friendly staff and a great bar that does delicious food. Safe and secure with a great atmosphere. Can't recommend highly enough.
Don’t believe the hype. Triple-stacked bunk beds in some rooms. Loud place with people coming and going all night. Front desk staff are nice but not competent. I purchased a 6-bed and they put me in a 9. They’ll refund you the 2£ but the point was a 6 share, not a 9. Nice building, decent parking but the whole point of the stay is sleep and it does not come easy… and oh yeah… school groups. Avoid. Would not stay again and Not recommended.
Very nice historic building, great breakfast and bar, in general the communal area is very nice. Rooms are okay.
Helpful staff, amazing period building, comfortable bunks. All-you-can-eat breakfast is reasonably priced at 4.50. Guinness pump in bar but was given a can, which at 4.50 is a little cheeky I thought. This is my second visit and for a central-ish London hostel you can't go wrong.
The rooms were large. Scenic location and building. Good amenities and friendly staff. Lots of local places to visit. Great public bathrooms private showers. Only down side was the heat control during the heat wave of 27 while we were there.
Fantastic place to stay, thourally enjoyed it and a lovely, welcoming atmosphere! I stayed in a six bed dorm and the people couldn't have been more respectful, the rooms were clean and the beds private. Close to a lovely park, the zoo and Camden town! Bar is lovely but did not try the food. Well recommended.
When you plump for a hostel over a hotel you are saying "cost is more important than comfort". Well, at Palmers Lodge you get both. All of the rooms, both dorm and private, are well fitted and present to spend time in. The building as a whole has a great feel to it and, thanks for thoughtful decoration, you really get a feeling for it's history. The bar and kitchen are a pleasure to spend time in and guest comfort is clearly a priority. The locations is great with the local tube station being only 5 minutes walk away.
Nice hostel in a very nice building. The kitchen and shower are tiny but very usable. Due to the quite large number of guests, much is more anonymous than in smaller hostels.
In the clean sleeping rooms you have a pleasant view of the bed by curtains. Ear plugs are recommended for people with light sleep.
What I really lacked are storage areas in the rooms and the guests interested in the reception staff (eye contact or even greetings were avoided as far as possible).
Overall a good choice if you want to stay relatively central and cheap and besides sleeping and eating anyway spends most of the time in the city.
They speak Russian! I would definitely recommend this cozy place!
Nice hostel for those wishing to save on accommodation. Very clean, hot water is always in the soul is in the living room free fashionable drink tea or coffee are paid with a snack and a drink. Downstairs in the bar on the cheap, you can get a snack or a drink, there is a pool table.
A great place to stay. PROS: inexpensive, restaurant and bar, very clean, nice people, great location, inexpensive food, free internet, quiet rooms. CONS: slow internet, needs more shelves in bed areas and shower rooms. Slooooow lifts so need to use the numerous stairs. (Good for walking off those chocolate croissants at breakfast! )
Beautiful hostel, inside decor is awesome. Bar isn't half bad, and the rooms are nicely laid out. Reception is helpful and always available, and guests tend to be a good sort. Location is near the subway station, so that's nice to hear if you have luggage.
I stayed at Palmers Lodge Swiss Cottage for 4 days and it's a nice hostel. The location is nice as well as the breakfast served in the hostel. My only remarks are the rooms. The rooms are quite small in comparison with the amount of beds, and there is no ventilation. You can, however, ask for a fan at the reception, something that really helped out.
Palmers lodge Swiss cottage is an amazing hostel. The old (but clean) building really stands out from what a normal modern hostel is. I have enjoyed the free tea and coffee in the lounge and a very fast internet connection all over the building. The room was nice and clean as the bathroom on my floor. I loved the idea to have the reading light and the socket in almost each bed (Almost every bed) I will be definitely staying here again when in London Thanks Guys.
Nice. We stayed for 3 nights, and it was just ok. Nice staff, nice building, very clean, really good breakfast. Good location. Disadventages: incredibly small shower! And poor Wi-Fi signal in the evening also. Easy check-out.
My favorite hostel in London. Very reasonable prices and good atmosphere. Mostly young people.
I spent three days there and it was amazing. Great building (feels like to be in the Harry Potter saga), cosy atmosphere, perfect accommodation, good position, nice staff, tasty and rich continental breakfast. Last but not least, clean bathrooms. I strongly recommend it for a cool holiday in London!
My favourite hostel. Clean, cozy, the staff is nice. I love the rooms with all the beds with curtains. The building is historical improved with facilities and services to make it safe and comfortable. Amazing.
Staff is unhelpful, arrogant and stealing our drinks. It's really ridicoulous how they act with their guests… I do not advise this to anyone who'd like a peacefull place.
Great place to stay. Well run with efficiency and charm by delightful people. I am a very senior citizen and much enjoyed the ambience & the company of intelligent young people. The lounge is a great place to relax… comfortable leather settees and armchairs… quite the biz! It is however, a backpackers hostel therefore space is a premium… carry minimum luggage… Enjoy!
I spent a month here 9 years ago. One of the best — if not the best — hostels in North London.
I went to London in November 2013.
clean, safe, friendly and affordable price.
fantastic.
We had a good experience. The place was clean and the curtains on the beds add a bit of privacy. The location is great. Walking distance to Camden town market and literally around the corner from the tube station. The only drawback was a lack of sinks and toilets in the bathrooms. Lots of showers, but not many sinks/toilets.
I had been staying in women's room during 4 days when i'd been checking I wanted ground bed but staff said no you can't already full but it was lying they had two vacant bed, one of bed was ground I knew because I didn't sleep and also bathroom was dirty either shower water was really hot and I couldn't control so I'd had to go to another shower room so annoying one day my bed room place next to plug didn't working so I went to the reception and I said that situation because of I needed to alarm but staff said I can't help you if you need, you have to do in lounge but time was 1:30 am I had to sleep and had to wake up at 7 am For that reason I couldn't charge and couldn't sleep he was rude enough to me really really rude I've been very angry till now I don't want to recommend this hostel staff was really unkind and rude really angry and really really annoying.
It was cheap. However, do NOT stay on the 3rd floor. I roasted up there. Not to mention the elevator doesn't go up that high. That is a real pain when it comes to luggage. Drinks at Breakfast taste horrible. The dinner menu was very affordable, I have the burger and chips for a fiver. A cider was about 3.20.
Graet place. Amazing location.
Very nice and above all very good environment. Good quality/price ratio.
Palmers Lodge used to be a fantastic place till not so long a go. Quite cheap, secure, with a lovely atmosphere and most of the clients were very friendly easygoing young people. Over the last year the new management have made quite a few changes and I am sorry to say ALL FOR BAD! 1) Stay at Palmers Lodge is much more expensive and less services are provided: breakfast used to be free now it cost £4.5; welcome voucher for a free drink in the bar doesn't exist anymore, nor as the bar itself which has been knocked down to make place for more room and beds. 2) Palmers Lodge is often overcrowded with overexcited kids from school trips. 3) Now you have to look very very carefully after your belonging. Not only phones, laptop and rechargers tend to disappear but also clothes and shoes seems to be targeted. 4) The new staff seems to have been selected by they rudeness, specially if you report a stolen item. Well Palmers lodge might be making better profits but definitely all at costs of its guests.
My permanence in this hostel was amazing, good and funny people. the hostel is extremely clean and tidy. It was my first home in London.
London is an expensive city above all accommodation and more looking at the poor quality of their 2 — and 3-star hotels. A great alternative are the hostels which are cheaper, neat, with many attractions as to meet lots of interesting people.
What happens is that many people have damage to the hostel to imagine them very crappy and little comfortable. Well okay, forget all that when you think at Palmers Lodge London (I know the Swiss Cottage). Is installed in a mansion of impressive brick, with bedrooms, comfortable facilities since for 2 people u and the larger ones with bunk beds with curtains, giving plenty of privacy. It has a dining room and a pub in the basement with very affordable prices both in food and beverages.
The only point against that I see, always there is something that can be improved, are the few showers per floor.
I have been to the Palmers Lodge last week. Traveling in hostels since I was little and I have to say this in London and was beautiful. The only one that offers internet access and breakfast included.
The rooms are large and clean, the staff is friendly and always willing to offer information about the city. Permanently according to me the best in London.
I have to admit that Palmers lodge is more than an hostel. The rooms are very clean; the common areas are always full of people from all around the world. I was expecting to have to pay for everything but I have found most of the services were free. Free good breakfast, free internet. Showers and bathrooms are clean and the room has the bed already made (I went to many hostels were you need to make your own bed). I will definitely go back to palmers lodge when in London again.
Very nice ambiance in an old English house. It was clean and the receptionists were very nice and helpful. Roxanna was very patient in helping me book my stay for several weeks given the availabilities, and gave me several useful tips for getting in and around London. I recommend this hostel to others who want to travel in a clean, welcoming and convivial place. Andre.
Very good site, charming and pleasant. Perhaps it is too hot in the rooms.

RespondI was for 4 nights at the Palmer Lodge and found it to be wonderful. The decor is wonderfully old-renovated with large stairs and stucco on the ceiling. Curtains in front of all the beds create privacy. The employees are super nice, the toilets are clean and the Breakfast is basic good. In the Restaurant there is an evening of good dishes for 5P. The location is good for the price, very centrally located, the Hostel is located between the two quickly accessible subway stations. I'll be back.

The place is great, be careful to have proof of payment or they will charge you another time or refuse to reimburse. Even when a employee says that you have paid. And despite they say there’s a change of bedsheets after 5 days, you still have to ask. Don’t expect good manners from the chief of reception, and another girl. All the others are helpful and respectful. And cleaning needs an improvement.
