Great place for children to have fun, for parties and staff always friendly.

I really like my stay at the white lion the owner was very pleasant at breakfast and provided me with a vegetarian alternative, bed was comfortable and room was clean and tidy only lost a star as I had to share a double bed with a co worker a twin would have been better ;-)

Very friendly service. Beer and cider festivals with lots of real ale and ciders. Plenty of outside seating. Next festival 14-16 Sept.

Only popped by for a pint on a bike ride but the pub looked nice, everyone was very friendly and there seemed to be a lot going on. Would like to come back for a longer visit.

Really nice bar with a lovely adult only garden. Drinks not too expensive, quite quiet and a nice atmosphere.

Nice pub, affordable prices, pretty good food and the twin room was big, but the bed a little small. Also the bathroom is shared. Very tasty breakfast included.

Really good carvery! Excellent value for money, delicious! Broad range of vegetables and very generous portion of meat. Probably one of the best we've had. We'll be back!

I went to the pub yesterday. The bar lady asked if I smoked and would I like to by some off of her and she said she was selling duty free ones under the counter (this is illegal? ) After waiting for 32 minutes when the bar was not busy. I then asked when I would be served. I was then told to leave or else. Me and my friend decided to leave after being threatened. The bar staff tried to physically asult me and my friend in front of other customers. Four blokes one who claimed to be the land lady's son. Removed us out of the pub. I have filled a report with the police. I would like it if people avoided the pub due to the physical violence I had experienced.

Another great meal. Sirloin Steak with all the trimmings served on a hot cook your own steak. Same for 4 people each with a drink just over £50 TOTAL.

Had our wedding here! What can I say Amazing from how lovely Holly was arranging our day with us beforehand to how amazing the staff were decorating the night before, some even coming in from home to help decorate and always checking we were happy throughout. The little things from bringing the little one strawberry’s so she wasn’t upset, to carrying my carvery so I didn’t spill on my dress, to decorating and putting our photo booth and sweet table out. I want to thank every single member of staff from myself and my Husband for every thing they did for us to make our day as special as it was. I would recommend to anyone to have their wedding here, it is amazing value for money and the best service we could of ever asked for!

15 if us went here for the 3pm lunch on Mother’s Day. They were extremely busy, as you can imagine, but you wouldn’t have known it from the service. The girls working that afternoon were brilliant. Our food and drink orders were taken and the drinks and then starters arrived really quickly. The food was scrumpy especially the carvers, the pork was outstanding and I’ll definitely be going back for more if that.

Nice friendly place, met some friends there for drinks and dinner. Service ok although waitress was clearly stretched. Steaks ok but lacking flavour went for the hot rock option paying full price so maybe a little disappointed but overall a pleasent evening.

Good little pub with a nice function room and pool table. Beer is reasonably priced and the roast potatoes are particularly good. Give it a chance.

The room was really nicely decorated, bed was comfy, the staff were really friendly and welcoming, they made sure we were well looked after, food was great as well. I couldn't have asked for anything more for a nights stay, I will definitely stay there again.

We enjoyed a Groupon deal here … lovely meal, service very good … pity we were the only quests here on the day.

Just got back from our Christmas party at the white Lion… and all we could say was " Wow, the food is amazing, every one of us 23 ladies enjoyed our food… I had the beef off the carvery, it was melt In the mouth … the staff were all helpful and good fun. The ambiance in the restaurant was lovely… the Christmas decs and music were great too.

Room was comfy, though windows were single glazed so quite cold (electric heater was provided) and could hear road noise. As it's an old building floorboards also noisy and walls are thin so the sound travels, particularly when guests retiring to their rooms after last orders. Quite nice to have a key to a door which allows you to come and go without walking through the bar itself. But, Holly and her team are very welcoming and it is a nice place to sit and have a beer. Beer on that note was decent too. Breakfast was good and the selection of exotic meats available for dinner very unique (zebra, kangaroo etc). Certainly won't be for all tastes but for a 1 or 2 night stay it does the job nicely.

We went for a sunday carvery, they accommodated us very well along with our 2 year old. Food was lovely and staff were very friendly. Definitely recommend.

Went in for a glass of wine as the garden looked nice, was charged £7-50 for a glass. I questioned the price later and was told that all wines were that price! Don't pay that much when a have a drink in London! Next time I will go to the Lawns and get a drink for £2 cheaper! Not happy!

We went for the Sunday carvery. There was 8 if us plus my baby. The room was lovely and the staff were very accommodating. Food was great. Excellent value for money.

One of the best carveries I've had in a long time. Service was good. Great price too. Would be 5 stars if it wasn't a little cramped.

Attended a lovely wedding reception here recently. Also really enjoyed the carvery for Sunday lunch with my family!

Had wedding reception here, Holly and all other staff were fantastic and the whole place was lush.

Went here with my partner for dinner on a Tuesday evening, it was fairly quiet in the restaurant and we were served quickly, we had the bread sharing platter to start and the kangaroo steak and black pudding stuffed steaks for mains, They were both presented very well and tasted very nice! It was great to have a choice of unusual meats (kangaroo, wild boar etc. ) on the menu. I would definitely recommend and will be returning myself. The only bad points I could make and the reason for missing a star was the staff were slow and it took ages to get the bill.

Popular pub with a large restaurant. Also has good-value accommodation.

Clean, more of a pub atmosphere than a bar which I prefer comfortable and slightly rustic feel with pool and darts avaliable as bar games only down side is the rear beer garden has been closed a lot recently, there are still outside tables in the front but lack the protection from the road noise. All in all a nice place.

Staff were lovely but the carvery wasn't that great. The beef was too rare and chewy and the turkey was dry. Nice selection of vegetables to go with the meat though and the gravy was superb.

Came on a Sunday for the carvery. Good service, decent amount of meat, and the fact we could help ourselves to veg was a nice touch. The revamped childrens area is nice also. Would revisit.

What makes this pub great are the views over the gorge in the large beer garden.

The food was awful! Whether or not I could have exchanged it for another meal, the menu offered no inspiration! Also The food is massively overpriced! £13 for a curry from a jar! The atmosphere of the lion is not the fun, lively atmosphere of a couple of years back but a more snooty, more holier than thou attitude has replaced it! The girl that served us was very pleasant and helpful! The toilets are vile! I wouldn't go back and I'd recommend others find a better place to spend their hard earned money!

Great local pub that offer a great varied menu and great atmosphere and I must say there Blackrock stakes are out this world. Highly recommend and there Sunday carvery is fantastic to.

WWet here for my wife's birthday last night. What a change. Food was fantastic, selection although small was very high end and not what you would expect in a town pub. I had the escargot and blue shark. While my partner had the prawns and a sirloin. All were dispatched from the kitchen promptly and we're excellent, although to my preference the chips were over cooked only criticism I could give. A great night was had by all.

The service was very good, the staff friendly and helpful. The food was nice (Went for the Sunday carvery), however the swede was lumpier than I am used to (A few, up to 1inch cubes). Well worth a visit.
