Very nice hotel in pleasant surroundings. The bar is VERY expensive. Food was good, especially breakfast. Room was on the small side, but very comfortable, well furnished and very clean. The spa is nice and has a good range to offer.

Great location great food right in the middle of new forest good service inside and outside pool's large garden quite location. Returned for another stay even better. Hotel is being being upgraded all the time. All the staff are very motivated to give great service ongoing program of upgrading all the rooms to the highest standards in a great location. Love it.

Lovely attentive staff and a great place to stay however kids are able to run freely and there is an open pool outside which in my opinion should be fenced off also one thing which alarmed me was drinks (orange juice water and squash) being served to children of 3 and 4 in standard drink glasses made if glass! Come in Balmer management think about it you'd have one major lawsuit on your hands should anything happen with the pool or drinks glasses.

Lovely friendly and helpful staff, went for a wedding and one night. Enjoyed our stay, nice old room. One of my kids tripped over the raised kerbs in the car park and cut and scratched her knees and hands, and a first aider on site was very helpful.

We went to Balmers Lawn in the new forest as there's a beautiful picnic spot great for kids of all ages as there's a river flowing through which you can walk across the kids love splashing around and there's a rope swing, cows and of course the new forest ponies. Dogs also love it here just a beautiful way to spend the day ☺

Beautiful venue, great staff, gorgeous setting, direct access to the forest. Lovely food too one of my favourite places in the world.

Enjoyable stay with friends. Lovely room. Food good but disappointing puddings — a mouthful and it's gone!

Took my Mum here for her 80 birthday, staff went the extra mile for us as u can see by lovely happy birthday dessert, afternoon tea was fantastic, our waiter made my Mum feel special 5 star experience.

We loved our visit. The staff were amazing and so helpful. It was quiet and we felt very spoilt. We will be back again very soon.

We went there for afternoon tea, good quality food, excellent location and ambience. Well maintained hotel, close to the Lymington River. Decent service. Helpful staff. Credit cards accepted including Amex. Ample parking space available close by. Highly recommended.

Nice food and service in nice cosy surroundings. We went casual dining rather than sit in the main restaraunt.

If you don't mind dogs, and there were a few there during my stay, this is an excellent hotel. Well managed with friendly and helpful staff. Food was very good and definitely a hotel to return to in it's lovely New Forest setting.

We only came here to use the pool, but the staff were lovely and the facilities were great. We mostly had the pool to ourselves too which was nice and relaxing.

Excellent spa, massage relaxing and ambience superb, lovely pool and gym available within the price. Food excellent and very reasonable, staff friendly and helpful all set in a beautiful location.

Excellent room and lovely facilities. Really enjoyed the pool although a little chilly the jacuzzi made up for it. Food was really good although I would have liked another vegetarian choice on the menu. The key thing for this hotel was the staff. Very polite and nothing was too much trouble.

Had dinner there. Lovely ambience with harpist playing. Very attentive staff and beautifully arranged food. Very artistic. The downside — my main was cold by the time it reached the table.

Balmer lawn, absolutely the best hotel I've stayed at in the south, staff made our stay amazing. Reception and bar staff they were amazing made us feel at total ease. They went the extra mile, would stay there again without hesitation x.

This is high end with really attentive staff, good surroundings and a relaxing atmosphere. We just visited for drinks following a local walk with the dog (dog friendly) and really enjoyed the place. We'll definitely be back.

Very pretty venue, nice rooms and function areas. Food was great for the wedding we attended. No complaints. Even the night porter was reasonable at 3am dealing with drunken guests who wouldn't go to their room. I don't know who that actually was though I've just heard rumours.

Relaxing, friendly atmosphere. Lovely staff couldn't be more helpful! Delicious food especially caramel pudding with Apple sorbet! Spa treatments excellent though limited spa facilities.

Amazing place to go, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Facilities are really good, staff can't do enough for you. Definitely recommend going their.

Well run, well appointed hotel in a fabulous location. We felt comfortable and relaxed here. This hotel offers space, refinement and elegance… horses rolling on their backs on the lawn (open grassland) in front of the hotel, forest animals, trees, plants and open sky all about… bliss. Hotel staff have been well trained and engage pleasantly and professionally with the guests. The food is excellent… expect to be amazed by the breakfast.

Whilst the experience was nice, and afternoon tea had some very nice cakes, I felt the spa facilities lacked in privacy, and the whole hotel could do with a bit of a face lift. The outside pool was close, the jacuzzi had no bubbles, and the sauna had people relaxing right outside the door which made me feel like I was disturbing them whenever I wanted to use it. As I said however, the experience was nice, I was just expecting better.

Our room was large, comfortable and well-provisioned. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food at the hotel is delicious. We were able to rent bicycles for the day and enjoyed a lovely ride through New Forest. The front desk has plenty of information on local walks and rides of you are looking to explore the area.

Very nice. Beautiful place. Fancy. Yummy breakfast. Expensive. They aren't so accommodating if you try to check in early but that's not really a surprise. I wish the pool was open late though. And it may have been just me or it may have been my room or something but I could not breath in the shower. It make me choke and cough and wheeze so much I had to open the bathroom door to finish my shower. Again, maybe I'm crazy, I don't know what the problem was. But it did happen to me both nights I stayed there. It's about a 15 minute walk from the town center or maybe 20 from the train station. Tons of wild horses all over the area in-between. Very picturesque area.

Lovely stay in a top class hotel. The rooms and decor of common areas were lovely and very inviting. The staff were all extremely helpful and attentive too. Definitely would recommend. Very good hotel.

A friend and I booked for ourselves plus another friend for afternoon tea on 26th October as it was to be the third friend's birthday treat. We were booked for 1430 and arrived around 1415. We presented ourselves at the reception desk and were told to take a seat and 'someone would be over to serve us'. After 20 minutes, no one had been near us, so I went to the bar and spoke with the waiter who checked our names were on his list. He said he would be over. At 1450, still no service so I again approached the waiter and asked if we could at least have a pot of tea whilst we waited for our food. This duly appeared followed by a board with six scones and 3 very tiny pots — one with clotted cream, one with a very, very runny jam and one with butter with a very strange texture, not at all enough for six scones. I enquired about the sandwiches, which should come first and he looked very confused, but eventually brought them with a very poor selection of cakes. The tea itself was disgusting — two teabags in a large pot which did not improve after stirring and allowing to brew and had a very strange taste. We were never asked which blend of tea we would prefer. With past experience of cream teas in several venues we have always had a choice of tea and loose tea has always been provided. For the above we were charged £18.50 per person — a real rip-off! Such a disappointment for us and our friend for whom this should have been a birthday treat.

Lobster ravioli, pork taster with mouth watering deserts. Fine dining service and food in this hidden gem of a something that feels like home in a mansion. If you don't stay here, at least spoil yourself for an affordable fine dining dinner. Thanks to all of the staff and chefs that make this an amazing experience.

A truly elegant facility with tremendously polite and helpful staff, comfortable amenities, and good food and drink. (Any place that has Jack Daniels on tap in the bar area can't be bad! ) The indoor small pool, sauna, and hot tub were not busy and quite relaxing. Outdoor pool was covered because of cool and occasionally rainy weather. A couple were playing tennis yesterday. Good place for a small professional meeting, the reason I was there for almost a week. Although Brockenhurst is within walking distance, it helps to have a rented car to facilitate sightseeing in this beautiful South/Western England.

Simply Amazing! We had a family break and 5 stars is a perfect reflection of our stay. We have already booked again and cannot wait.

AFTERNOON TEA — BIG DISAPPOINTMENT ****** I "booked" afternoon tea as a surprise for a friends 40th Birthday. We arrived and were seated at a "bar" like table that was not laid in anyway, and certainly not for tea. After being there for at least half an hour we were finally brought some tea, and although it was not busy, the food took that long to follow that we had all but drunk both pots. Some of the sandwiches were dry, suggesting they were not freshly made. The "pickle" served with the cheese tasted like tomato ketchup. The Jam was runny and warm as was the cream which was far from the traditional clotted cream expected. We did have a good selection of cakes and biscuits, but all of variation in sizes, with one piece of carrot cake being so thin you could almost see through it. All in all a real disappointment. Despite booking, it was like they were not expecting us. We should have / could have complained but when its for someone's birthday you don't want to make a fuss and spoil it even more. VERY disappointed. I booked this venue after reading previous reviews which rated the tea favourably. We clearly picked a bad day, and certainly don’t recommend it nor will we return.
