How ridiculous that you "don't accept cash. " Very embarrassing to be chased out of the restaurant by a member of serving staff (for them and us) because we had left cash at the table. Nobody told us on arrival that cash was not the accepted 'currency' nor did we spot any signage. Any businesses that are trying to use COVID as an excuse to reduce their banking costs ought to take a long, hard look at themselves. Taking away valuable support from clientele will only backfire in the long run. Such a disappointing end to what was an enjoyable lunch. What a shame indeed.

We had a meal in the garden pod yesterday. The food was excellent and we really enjoyed it. My only criticism was the £10 non refundable charge for the pod. On a chilly wet day the heating was not good enough and there was no blankets to sit on or wrap around you, we had to sit on a cold wooden picnic table and eat with our overcoats on, as the wind came in through the open sides, as they hadn’t been closed. We had a meal at browns on Saturday under a marquee with a large heater and cushions which was very comfortable, for no extra charge. I know it is difficult for the industry at this time but a few extra comfortable additions would make a difference.

Beautiful private heated tent — lovely food. Perfect even in the pouring rain!

Had the roast, beef was pink, veg were good quality and yum. Shame the gravy was minimal and runny and food tepid. Lovely garden to eat in and friendly staff.

We booked a pod in “the Secret Garden”. Food was great, service good my observation (as I said to the manager) is I feel the £10 charge to reserve the pod should be refunded off the bill. It’s not the amount of money, it’s the principal and it has made me reluctant to return which is a shame ☹️

Service is seriously lacking! Table service is only for those that booked! Have to go to the bar for every little thing. We are made to feel like outcasts!

We bought a voucher for a 2 course meal for my husbands birthday,
I didn’t read the T’s and C’s properly and when I went to book, I realised that the voucher stayed until 4pm. I rang and explained and they couldn’t have been more accommodating and let us book for 5.00pm instead.
The food, the service and the atmosphere was amazing! We ended up spending double what we paid for the voucher but only because it was such a lovely evening!
Would highly recommend to anybody and will definitely be back! X.

We visited the pub today for a Sunday roast. We were very happy with the service, all staff were happy, approachable and the pub has a wonderful atmosphere, which we loved! we didn't book a table as we were driving past the pub and was interested by the look of it so thought we would have a look inside. They were fully booked and we completely understood this as this is expected for a Sunday and we was more than happy to enjoy a drink. However a very helpful member of staff shared that a family had not turned up so we could use their table. The food was amazing! we will definitely be returning!

Sunday roast beef was great; good selection of well cooked veg, delicious rare sirloin, all nicely presented. Really polite and friendly service. Good beer (Butcombe orig).

An exquisite establishment to visit; 100% recommend visiting! As a party of 16 ppl we were able to book a table at fairly short notice and even managed to reserve a game of boules too. The food was served promptly and delicious, for £15 for a three course set meal an absolute bargain. We be booking again next year for 30+!

What a great find! Stopped for a meal at The Northey Arms with my wife on the way home from a day in Bath. Did not expect the welcome, service and quality of food we experienced. If you are passing Box you really should take time to visit this great watering hole and eating house. Really amazing food and service. Give it a try!

Very good overnight stay. Friendly team make you feel welcome. Good dinner and breakfast after a heavy night! Book room 1, it's quieter as its on the back and has a outside deck.

U got to eat here. Pure and simple. Some of the best food in a pub ever.

A really lovely place. We stayed in one of the family rooms, which was a nice large room with a bath tub and a separate shower and very comfortable beds. Very clean and well maintained. Staff are super helpful and the included breakfast was great. Will happily stay here again when in the area.

Been here for breakfast, Sunday lunch, Christmas dinner and a mid week bite to eat and it's consistently good. Lovely staff, great menu and you can even get your car cleaned! Parking is available.

A beautiful hotel and bar set near Box in close proximity to gorgeous country views. Historical-looking and elegant with a lovely bar and a nice restaurant that has friendly and helpful staff. Food was lovely and was served fast… A great stay for a decent price, definitely an hotel/bar I'd be happy to come back to. Well done!

Found this place on our way for a few days away, really good food and very nice staff. Would like to stay for a couple of days someday.

This was a happy find before the long drive back to London. Delicious food, brilliant service and pleasant, cosy atmosphere. Would highly recommend and the staff were lovely with my children.

Had a lovely boxing day meal at the northey arms. Given that there was a limited menu that day (rightly so) everyone had something that they wanted to eat. Even a fish option for the non-meat eater in the family. Been a few times when in the area and would expect to go again. Ladies bathroom only had one of the two loos working but I expect that would be fixed right away given the standard I've seen of the place.

It was a pleasant stay. Nice pub too. The rooms are at the back far from the main road. And quiet. The bathrooms are of good size especially the shower. As I am tall it is much appreciated. There is a car park for guest too.

We anticipated a noisy environment but rooms are separated from the pub so it was very quiet and great for privacy. Plenty of parking space and staff were supportive with additional requests.

A nice layout and pleasant looking bar. However the service is so disorganised I can't recommend it. We had a long wait for our appetisers and when they arrived they also tried to give us our mains at the same time. Even after explaining that we wanted to finish our appetisers before mains we had multiple staff try and hurry us along. Once we were ready it then took 45 minutes to get our mains which other than a few elements were room cold. It was very hard to get anyone's attention to order drinks and something we found bizarre was that they have fitted a loud doorbell to their kitchen to attract attention of the servers which is very irritating when you're trying to have a conversation over dinner. I've seen similar things in some quieter restaurant's but never something this piercing. All in all, quite disappointing and overpriced for the service you receive.

Good pub with range of pub classics and more restaurant style options. Children's menu with good range. Shame things are served in slates or wooden boards instead of plates! Fairly expensive but nice modern feel.

After being shown to a table and delivered drinks we were left waiting to place our food order. After 30 minutes with one member of staff manning the till and the other making coffee my wife and 5 year old daughter gave up feeling ignored and hungry. I note that people who arrived after us were served very quickly! By way of apology we were given our drinks free of charge. Won't be going again and don't even know how good or bad the food is.

Fabulous place to stay. Not far from Bath and a bus stop right outside should you not want to take the car into town. Rooms first class and bathrooms are beyond that!
We had dinner here two nights (near a roaring fire) and all you can manage breakfast. The staff are friendly and attentive what's not to like.

We went in for Sunday lunch (3adults and a 3 year old). Great service and a good old English roast… The roast potatoes could be a little more freshly roasted but all in a good homely roast… The restaurant and bar was full creating a great atmosphere.

At very mixed feel on the whole. Outside appearance isn't super great, there was a staff moped blocking the disabled space closest to the door, the car park surface need attention, particularly by the disabled entrance as there's a pot hole at the bottom of the ramp which made it hard for my grandma to get inside. The bar and restaurant areas are decorated to a high standard and feels very comfortable, however the chairs in the dining area are bolt upright and rather uncomfortable unless you lean forward. When you venture into the toilets it's clear no-one has spent any money here as they're in a poor state which just doesn't match the standard of the other areas. The service was average and extremely slow, food took over an hour after ordering to arrive after twice asking and being told it was being plated up. If someone had come and apologised earlier and of their own accord it would have prevented this from becoming a negative experience. Once the food finally arrived it was excellent, I had a Sirloin which was cooked perfectly and was a good quality cut. For desert I had Bread and Butter Pudding, which was very nice although 1 end was stone cold whilst the rest was warm. In summary, the food quality alone floats this review to very shaky 3 stars, which would be a 1 if the food wasn't to a high standard.

I'm writing this on behalf of my parents, they LOVE The Northey, the staff there are fab and always make them feel super welcome and at home. They probably visit twice a month and are always greeted with a friendly smile and are addressed in a polite manner by name (Welcome back/good afternoon/hello there Mr. And Mrs. ) The food is delicious and the pricing is fair. They would recommend it to anyone and everyone, infact my partner and I are off there for Sunday lunch this weekend. Highly recommended. A+.

It started well. We were welcomed by the bar manager. The menu was brought to us promptly and our drinks order was taken. Unfortunately the manager then handed us over the the waitress, who then ignored us almost completely. After our mains we waited for 30 minutes with dirty plates in front of us. Finally when she did arrive we foolishly asked for the sweets menu. Another 20 minutes later I went to the bar and asked for the bill having never seen the sweets menu. I had the sweet in my local pub instead. It doesn't matter how good the food is (and it is nothing to rave about, my rare steak was medium but still tasted good, "home made chips" were clearly not home made), if you employ staff who can't be bothered you deserve to fail as a business. During this tough time for pubs, one would expect a little effort from staff. I have paid less for better and been treated like a customer to boot.

Good food and a nice atmosphere were utterly destroyed by a waitress that seems happy to ignore us. Waited 30 minutes after food for her to clear the table, then another 20 minutes to bring the sweet menu (gave up at this point and asked for the bill at the bar). I will never bother with this place again. Had our sweets in my local pub and the breakfast I was going to have here on Thursday will be somewhere else. I hope this trend continues with other customers until you learn to manage the staff or hire better ones. What a shame!

Had a lovely evening. Food gorgeous. Service very pleasant and efficient but not 'in your face'. Spacious eating area. And bloody nice beer!. Will be back and recommend to friends and family.

We've enjoyed a number of excellent meals at The Northey Arms over the past few years. Lovely ambiance and service and nice variety on the menu (but not so long that you wonder how it could possibly be fresh). Food consistency good and fresh. Guess that must be why we keep returning.

Food great, prices reasonable and range of dishes good. Speed of service also good. Highly recommend stopping in for a nice evening.
