The staff were friendly and very helpful
we had a three course evening meal and it was excellent.
I would highly recommend this hotel
some parts need upgrading but was still clean.

My wife and I stayed at your hotel last night 16/11/19 as it was her 40th birthday.
On arrival we saw this grand house with beautiful entrance. Only to be shown to a ugly old 1970s building at the rear. We entered our room to find a mouldy damp patch on the ceiling which has obviously been leaking By the runs down the wall.
In the main room the window was so rotten and mouldy and cobwebby I’m surprised the window didn’t fall out and the blind had black mould and dead flys squashed it to it. So on to the bathroom well if this had see a cleaning cloth this year I’d be amazed!
Overall it was disgustingly horrible you should be ashamed to even show someone this room let alone charge them to sleep in it!
If this wasn’t bad enough we then went down to dinner where we were sat at a rickety table with broken chairs. I order the bavette steak which was off stinking and Inedible,
Not once did the staff ask if we were happy or if everything was ok. The breakfast the next morning was equally as bad. I have stayed in plenty of budget hotel’s and ymca’s and quite frankly this has to be up there with the worst. This was suppose to of been a special night to celebrate my wife’s birthday but instead it was a horrible nightmare we’d rather forget.

Lovely place and friendly staff. We had a great weekend here with the use of the spa facilities at no extra cost.

Stayed here for 2nights, hotel and our room was absolutely stunning, however some staff in the restaurant and at breakfast need to go on training courses to learn how to smile and interact with customers, couldn't even be bothered to explain where and how the breakfast worked. Would stay at the hotel but would never dine there again!

One of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in for years — a helpful team, great food & gorgeous HUGE bedrooms with loads of little luxurious extras to make your stay more special — I’d recommend The Milton Hill House without hesitation.

I would recommend hotel as main part is very attractive and grounds are beautiful. Food was delicious and breakfast plentiful, great variety. However, we were put in 'garden wing' which is a very grotty and incongruous block at rear of main hotel. Apart from comfy beds, staying in this block was very disappointing, room was very small and shabby in great need of a refresh, towel rail immediately next to the toilet was very unhygenic and shower draining slowly meaning you stood in dirty water not nice. Leisure facilities nice and a welcome addition, although changing room very small.

Lovely comfortable rooms and the food is great. Rural location adds to the ambiance.

Lovely afternoon spent having tea and Lesiure facilities access. Staff were polite, rooms clean, pool lovely.

My sister & I had an Afternoon Tea this afternoon and it was excellent, we would definitely recommend it. The staff were very attentive and the sandwiches, scones, jam & cream + petit fours were very nice indeed. We were well impressed. We sat at a table by the window with the sun shining and beautiful scenery to look out at. We will definitely visit again. Thank you xx.

Arrived here with my mum for her 74th Birthday. Staff really went all out to celebrate and make it special.
Room was gorgeous and the grounds superb but it was the friendly and kind staff which really makes this hotel stand out. Handy distance from Abingdon and Oxford. Well worth a stay! — с Susan Mary Moore.

Very tired. Poor service. Came with a large group for a wedding, three couples got bed bugs. Expensive yet incredibly poor.

Nice little hotel ideally located for a golf tour in Oxfordshire. We were in the Gareden wing, rooms were little rough around the edges but it was a free trip so no complaints. Bar Staff were great and the drinks were cold, breakfast was tasty but coffees were from a machine.

Nice Victorian hotel but with interior modernisation. Good and hearty breakfast, both from a quantity point of view but also quality.

We got married here last week. Amazing place. Staff are willing to go the extra mile for you. I loved the location, the building and grounds, the pool and the manor bedrooms. Bar is pretty average but food is lovely. Couldn't bring myself to mark less than five stars but I have to say their new booking system is awful. Didn't send confirmation emails, m or booked the wrong room under the wrong name or for the wrong date.

Stayed in the garden wing and was greeted with an old musty smell as we entered the room. I had the most awful nights sleep thanks to the constant buzzing of what I can only assume was an air conditioning unit but not sure, which then completely ruined the next day as was soooo tired. The room itself was clean and tidy but I wouldn’t class it as a nice experience, which for the place and price I would have expected better.

Very mediocre Premier inn Travelodge far superior room was dirty very dusty and dated cleaners need to find a job they are good at cleaning is is not for them food very bland no flavour staff were very Friendly and helpful in the restaurant and reception.

We stayed here for 3 nights for my daughters wedding (we live up North). The rooms in the garden wing could do with a little update but the beds were comfortable and the room very clean. The hotel itself is lovely, the breakfast very good and the free tea/ coffee stations were something I have never seen before (tea & coffee are also provided in the room) and are an excellent idea. It was nice to pick up a cup of tea and sit outside in the Italian Gardens or terrace area. Lots of family also stayed over and enjoyed use of the pool & gym as well as football and volleyball! My daughter & son in law had a drinks reception in the library followed by the wedding breakfast & evening reception. I cannot fault it… they were organised, very helpful & professional but relaxed. The food for the wedding breakfast was excellent and the evening buffet was equally as impressive. Highly recommended!

Nice grounds and friendly staff. We had a room in the Garden Wing which is a bit of a let down in appearance. Room was OK but tired. Some communal areas were untidy. Adequate for a single night stay.

We have recently stayed here for my grandsons wedding. Everything was excellent, staff, facilities and bedrooms were all very good. I would recommend this hotel.

Great place with a countryside feel yo stay. However, the house keeping didn't mind to have a fridge in the premium family room. No dental kit was supplied. Cleanliness below expected.

Take what you like from an experience! Stayed here for a night and breakfast as it's close to my son's new house. Well established hotel with beautiful, welltendered lawns with mature trees and shrubs. Ideal venue for weddings and used constantly for conferences. Reception staff very courteous and welcoming. We used the pool (nice and warm! Could do with better scrubbing round the edges) whirlpool (really hot water). Didn't use the gym. Then went in to dinner. This was a Saturday evening with a wedding reception going on next door. One waitress in the whole dining room and she coped well! Congratulations to her especially as she was also rota'd on for the breakfast service the following morning! Food was good, plates hot. Choices could have been better for vegetarians (as one of our party was). The wines were terribly expensive (£57 for an average New Zealand white? ) Bartender explained the Hotel was a DeVere but has changed hands so hopefully new management will address this issue. They have so many weddings they can get away with inflated wine prices? Our room in garden wing was alright. It was clean and tidy. Coffee and tea (would have liked a couple of herbal choices) Lovely view on to gardens. Kudos to housekeeping for their clean linen and especially the pillows as they smelled pristine. (I hate hotel pillows smelling of unwashed, greasy hair even though pillowcases have been changed!

The menu has changed this week, and it a great improvement. Could do with a better selection of beers in the bar. The staff are great. The rooms are ok, best ones are in the Ridings as you get disturbed less often (although I haven't had a room in the main building yet)

Absolute joke this hotel rude staff inconsiderate house keeping that don't speak a word of English and obviously can't read as came into my room 3 times in one morning even though I had please do not disturb sign on the door. Food was poor luke warm chips and frozen bread on my sandwich covered in mayo even tho I asked for nothing on it. If you have a food allowance you can't put drinks onto it as well and a coke is £4:20 god knows how much it would cost for a beer / wine. I would recommend people to avoid this hotel. The premier Inn just off the A34 at Didcot is a hell of a lot better.

We had booked for Afternoon Tea and when we arrived, nobody seemed aware of our booking and the staff were occupied with a wedding. We were the only ones in the restaurant and felt a bit like we were left to our own devices! Food was nice but service not so great unfortunately.

Milton hill hotel is difficult to find but once you get there, it's a beautiful setting. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lunch was delicious.

We stopped here on the way home from Manchester just as a staging post, however, we were very taken with the place. The grounds and italian garden were fab, the staff were amazing and very professional and the spa facilities were perfect. We had a meal in the hotel restaurant and it's been a while since I've had food that good, in short, awesome chefs. We'll be back in the summer for a 2 night stay and will take a bit more time to explore Oxford. Well done Milton Hill.

Located close to the town of Didcot, this was an ideal place to spend the night before a job interview in the area. The room was good value for money, clean and well fitted-out. Fitness and swimming facilities are available, as is a bar and restaurant serving reasonable quality food.

Really nice setting, came here for an interview day for another company. Good food and service. Basically tailored for business meetings and small seminars. Rooms weren't amazing, but got a good night's sleep and had everything I needed.

I have covered 3 weddings at this venue. The grounds are lovely in all seasons of the year. The building itself well kept and the staff very attentive and friendly.

We had our works Xmas do here, nice, well appointed room, friendly staff, great tasty dinner and breakfast. Finished our stay with a relaxing session in the spa complex. I can't fault the place and would happily stay again.

A great place to stay, with helpful staff, sizable rooms and decent on-site leisure facilities. The only real issues were the cleanliness and cold temperature of the room. The cleanliness was the primary reason for the loss of a star, the carpet had stains and there was still hair in the bathroom. The bar provided delicious food, I'd definitely recommend a pizza, unfortunately the restaurant was fully booked which we were emailed ahead of time about, but the bar menu was sufficient.

My company chose Milton Hill for this years corporate event. The conference room was a good size, we had our own escape room and bar area. Lunch was very impressive, with friendly service staff. Parking was easy and only a short walk to the reception. So overall an enjoyable experience, however, nothing to make me say "wow" and award 5 stars.

Me and my wife stayed there for two nights. We turned up at the hotel and thought it was a really nice place. We went inside and checked in and again thought it was nice inside. We were then ok'd where our rooms were so grabbed our bags and walked through the hotel and then through a garden into another building which looked like a council building. We were both disappointed that we weren't staying in the hotel building but the rooms themselves were OK, clean and had everything you needed for an overnight stay. The staff were friendly and polite and the food there was nice. My 3 star rating was purely based on us expecting for the price of the room to be staying in the hotel and not a separate building.

Wish I had read the reviews on TripAdvisor first! Although it would appear that the manager, Ben Sanders seems to reply to bad reviews with excuses or criticism rather than apologies (atrocious customer service! ) Thankfully only had to stay one night or we would have checked back out and demanded a refund! We were actually attending a reception at Steventon Hill Hotel (which I would definitely recommend) Anyway, we got put in Gables Cottage which is separate from the main hotel building. The entrance to our room was up a flight of stairs which was dark and smelt of damp. On first inspection our room seemed adequate, but then it became apparent that it most certainly wasn't. 1) lumpy mattress 2) lumpy foam filled pillows 3) stained toilet 4) mouldy ceiling in the shower 4) only mirror near a plug socket was inaccessible 5) dirty sink 6) rough towels 7) generally felt damp and dirty. I am surprised they even let this cottage out. Would we recommend? No. Would we stay again? NO.

The rooms are basic, however are more than adequate for the purpose of the worka course. The food is fantastic, both lunch and dinner. The business facilities are brilliant.

My diary so far (and its only been 24 hours) : 1. Arrive to room, which was unbelievably filthy — looked like bath hadn't been cleaned in a month and there was even hair in it;
2. Request reception to send someone to clean;
3. Wait an hour — go to reception and request again;
4. Finally cleaning crew arrives with no idea what to do. They clearly didn't seem to find the filthy state of the bath as disagreeable, and instead they clean the toilet;
5. Call back the cleaning crew, who then wash down the bath — particularly hygenic of them!
6. Call room service for dinner — no answer. Call someone and force them to take my order;
7. Request reception to send a remote for the television;
8. Go back to reception an hour later because no remote has arrived, and have to wait at reception to have one delivered as I no longer trust them to deliver to the room;
9. Discover safe is not operational this morning, and request reception to send maintenance (at around 07h30) to fix, indicating that I need it done this morning as I have to leave the hotel;
10. Go back to reception at 11h00 as maintenance still has not arrived, and am told that 'he has lots of things to do';
11. Get very annoyed, and maintenance appears soon after that; Oh, Milton Hill House — what more do you have in wait for me?

Dirty and old. Restaurant is not recommended.

We just visited Milton Hall Hotel for our anniversary and had a lovely time, would thoroughly recommend! We booked the night before so was not expecting the best room, but the room was lovely and had all the amenities you'd expect, good quality teas and coffee and lovely views too. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the quality was fantastic and great value for money, cost around £50 for 3 courses each, plus drinks on top. Breakfast was lovely too, good variety, fresh fruit and I saw gluten free bread which is nice (not necessary for us though). The staff were all very friendly, efficient and helpful, the reception staff, waiters/waitresses and bar staff. The grounds are lovely and the Italian garden is the perfect place to enjoy a drink in the sun, then relaxing with beautiful lights in the evening. The gym was good, my husband used it and I enjoyed the pool area, the pool was a lovely small size and had a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. It had only one sun lounger though, could have done with just one more. The only downside I could see was we didn't have any cash on us to give a tip at dinner and was told the gratuity that went on the card didn't reach the waitresses, which we felt really bad about and it's a shame they don't get the gratuity that they deserve!

Always have a lovely stay here. Some of the garden wing rooms could do with an update but the rooms are always well cleaned and comfortable.

Hotel is in a nice location, with lots of grounds. Room was OK, bed was comfortable, but the decor is looking tired. Would stay at again.

Viewed Milton Hill as a potential wedding venue — lots of places for photos outdoors, and plenty of options indoors too if the weather's bad. The Library is perfect for arrival drinks, canapés etc and the doors open onto the private patio. There is a lounge and a bar adjacent to the Library where guests can relax and get a drink whilst the ceremony room (there's a choice of 3) is changed around for the wedding breakfast, and again for the evening reception. The Italian Garden is beautiful and makes a great backdrop for an outdoor wedding. Plenty of rooms for all your guests and they have full use of the hotel facilities — pool, sauna, spa etc. We spoke to Fiona the wedding coordinator and Ben, who I believe was master of ceremonies for a wedding at Milton Hill on the day we looked around. Both were very helpful and knowledgeable. Lovely place for any wedding!

Room was not the cleanest. Food at the restaurant was just about average. However, service all around was very good and I liked the gardens and overall setting.

We used Milton Hill for a 7 day work conference and it was flawless. Great breakout areas in the summer to help avoid suffering from boardroom fatigue, excellent service, and really great food every lunchtime and every dinnertime. Our team traveled from all over the world so the hotel even suggested a cream tea afternoon for the guests for a truly British experience! It obviously received a variable reception (! ) but not because the hotel didn't try! Accommodation is slightly sub par with the rest of the place but all in all, it was the perfect setting for what we needed!

Polite and friendly staff. Food at the restaurant was excellent (roast pork). Conference rooms were cool on the hot day, clean and tidy. Overheard projector was faulty but we worked round it. Tea and coffee facilities were ok although coffee was weak and one machine was pretty much out of action. The grounds are lovely. Big lawn with football and volleyball nets setup. Plenty of flower beds and walled gardens to stroll round too. A very tranquil location.

A lovely hotel in a lovely area with stunning grounds to enjoy. The leisure facilities was also very very good. On the whole the staff were great, but some small things though; the reception didn't pass on check out times, breakfast times or pool opening times and other info and figured all that would be in a info pack often found in rooms and it wasn't so had to go back and find things out. Also, the breakfast staff kept wandering off (seemingly not in a hurry or anything) whilst there were people queueing to pass on their room number, to get in and sit down. Only small tiny slight things but noticeable when the venue is so lovely. Will go again for sure though.

We've been attending a 3 day training course using one of the smaller meeting rooms. Facilities are all fine and it's a nice hotel although it seemed very cold throughout today no matter where we went in the hotel. Granted it was cold outside but you would expect the dining area at least to be comfortably warm. Apart from that it's a fine venue for our needs.

We attended a wedding here and the entire experience was wonderful from start to finish. We stayed for one night and the room was perfectly presented when we arrived. We had a comfortable nights sleep and the breakfast was lovely. I would thoroughly recommend this venue for anything from a wedding to a short break, the grounds are beautiful.

I this is very much a tale of two halves, the main house is lovely, the facilities are good and the food was really nice. The garden rooms are not. They are in a concrete annex and are very tired, the bathrooms in particular are in need of modernisation, the one we were in had damaged and stained bath panels and needed a damned good clean.

A nice older building set in several acres of wooded land with golf, crochet, football and swimming pool all available. The rooms are reasonably sized and the staff are attentive, but OMG, the food is divine!

Drinks at bar a little overpriced and no variety of food at dinner. Only 4 main courses to pick from, showers and steam room didnt work upon visit to the spa. Pro point, free tea and coffee.

Really nice main building/venue but the bulk of the rooms are off in a separate concrete block around the corner and are very dated. Breakfast was chaotic with long waits for cutlery and mugs for our table and a poor quality hot buffet. Comfy beds though.

I attended a course that was being held at Milton Hill House. It was easy to get to, the facilities were great and the restaurant was good as well.

Very nice and cosy really amazing views.

Our room was above the kitchen and there was a fan or humming all night. Our view was the bins. We didn't sleep. Early on the Sunday morning there were staff talking loudly and arguing coming from the kitchen. All in all a blooming nightmare.

Accommodation was really nice, Food was fantastic Staff were all very friendly and helpful Really nice facilities.

Standard De Vere hotel where the main house looks great but the hotel rooms are in a very drab looking separate building out the back. Didn't eat here so can't comment on that. Would stay again if the price was right.

Rooms are OK, food and drink expensive with limited options for casual dining in comfort. Bar not suited to eating. Not the worst place in Abingdon but not the best either.

More expensive than nearby Hilton, so you expect a decent standard. Food good. Original building nice looking, but we in 1960s block out back with small room, thin walls, cold shower and broken plug sockets.

Welcoming and accomodating staff. Breakfast had a decent selection and the chef went out of his way to give extras when asked for (cheese, crispier bacon). Only negatives that we experienced was that it was not possible to get any food at all after 10pm, not even room service, and the gym is only cardio equipment, not a dumbbell in sight. Otherwise very pleasant stay.

I've stayed in a lot of hotels over the past few years all over the world and this was one of the worst. The facilities themselves are fine enough, but the walls are paper thin — for 3 nights I couldn't sleep because every 20 minutes I'd hear a door slam, people talking outside in the hall (at 3am mind you! on a Tuesday! ), water running, etc. The parking situation is a joke — they have like 15 parking spaces for ~50 rooms in the garden wing, so better get there early. Rooms are small (ok, that's to be expected for a UK budget hotel), but I did find myself somewhat cramped, only a little surprising because the hotel is way out in the suburbs. And I will never understand the UK hotel obsession with that weird half curtain thing in shower. Doesn't bother me if you have to mop up my soapy filth whilst I'm out at work, but you'd make your job easier if you put a $1 stip of vinyl in there instead (just a tip! ). I won't be staying here again.

Arrived late 9.45 pm and I asked about getting food. The receptionist said you can get food from bar but neglected to say that the bar closes at 10pm. So I arrive at 10.02 to be told at the bar that they had stopped serving food that I should go back to the room and order. Lo and behold when I try to order food which is supposed to be available 24 hours the person at the other end of the phone tells me that much of the menu is no longer available and that the chef has gone for the night. On top of that I had to ask for additional light to be brought to the room as it was too dark to be able to read from together with a substandard worn mattress and you can bet it was a great time. However after complaining to the manager Steven he did appear to be quite responsive. Why oh why wait for a complaint before delivering a quality service is it too much to ask to expect a little hospitality. To their credit they did try to put things right. The laugh was they brought along another taller light which was no brighter than the previous one. If you plan on working in the rooms at night better to bring your miner's helmet you will need the extra light.

Took a youth group of approximately 50 to Milton Hill House for a weekend event and had a briliant experience. A quiet country house in the country side was exactly what we needed and just what we got. The facilities were great (gym and pool were small but very clean), the rooms were clean — beds were very comfortable and most of all the staff were all very helpful and worked very hard to ensure our events went to plan and we enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended.

Very nice venue and room rate was very good. Only annoyance was the cleaner making a racket at 9 in the morning. Would return.
