Lovely pub friendly staff. Food is spot on and fair priced. Would deffiently recommend.

We took advantage of the eat in scheme and had a fantastic meal here tonight. The food was delicious, filing and good value for money.

This is where I took my children for their first meal out in months! Staff were fabulous and helpful, all guidelines in place and you’re made to feel very safe and most welcome! We had a lovely meal, thanks so much for all you’re doing! :-)

Very nice Sunday lunch, quickly served and very hot. Nice dessert too. Would recommend for any day of the week, good atmosphere, one draw back which is not really the pub’s fault was the very loud couples at a table by us who seemed to want the whole pub to know their business, if I was the manager I would have told them to keep the noise down as it was ruining what was a very pleasant meal.

Stayed here for friends wedding excellent food excellent service Simon went above and beyond nothing was to much trouble for him and his team excellent.

We’ve stayed at The Swan a number of times. The food is great, the rooms well kept and the employees are wonderful. This trip we are here for two weeks holiday and love it.

Lovey place to stay lovely rooms pretty & smart everything you need our outlook was the huge church beautiful setting, really clean. Breakfast was lovely would stay again.

Our first time to the Swan very friendly enjoyed the food well presented hot and tasty affordable prices. We certainly will go back. If you are a dog lovely dogs are very welcome to.

Very nice place to stay over a pub. My wife thought it was a bit noisy (linked to the pub downstairs) however the rooms were cosy, traditional and modern. The pub downstairs has great food and the breakfast was great. The staff is very friendly and done their best to accommodate our needs so for the price of their rooms at 20mn max from stansted airport, it's a bargain. My only regret was that we stayed only 1 night as this town looks like it has a lot to offer.

Lovely room and lovely staff would benefit from some air con in rooms but manager gave us her personal fan to keep us cool much appreciated!

If you need a hotel near Stansted it is an interesting option, it is 15 minutes by car and with free parking. Charming hotel, spacious rooms, dining room in a traditional English pub with an affordable menu. The staff is friendly and the breakfast (included) is spectacular, with a menu of hot options that make you at the moment. The village is nice for a walk. If there is something negative it is the presence of planes constantly even at night, logically because it is next to the airport, and that if the room is facing the main street and it is hot, as they do not have air conditioning, the open window lets in the noise of the traffic that is dense. However, I recommend it.

Great place to stay really nice staff, just happened to be a England football night so busy but great. Noisy late on but not too bad, great breakfast.

Generous portion sizes and a friendly and warm welcome. I visited with a friend last weekend for a quick lunch. We were looked after by Abbie who was very helpful and friendly. The food didn't take long to arrive and the portion size was very generous. Food was really nice too. The pub has been recently refurbished and has some very impressive looking rooms upstairs. Car park is a good size but there is also a free public car park very close by for peak times. Well worth a visit!

Really friendly bar staff. Large selection of hot and cold food — and every meal we've tried has been top notch (especially the Indian banquet). Good selection of cask ales. Plenty of seating inside; bookings can be made. Carpark with about 12 spaces at the back.

Historic local pub offering accommodation in recently renovated cottages attached to the inn. Clean and comfortable room with ensuite. Parking on site if you get there early or move your car in after the dinner rush (there is also a free public car-park down the lane behind it). Breakfast included in the price: ranging from continental to full English. Restaurant has a good range of meals for a reasonable price. Great central location for exploring the surrounding area and don't forget to wander the town for some good photos, too.

Nice views from outside the front of the lovely church. Nachos and chips very tasty although do opt for the saver menu as it worked out cheaper for two portions of nachos rather than one sharer. Beer satisfactory for a greene king establishment. Nice dogs.

We stayed the night, in two rooms. The rooms were both clean, comfortable, spacious and modern. The staff were fantastic and could not have been more helpful, especially the lady who served us our breakfast (which was tasty and plentiful). There was plenty of parking and the location was picturesque.

Warm welcome, lovely room which was newly refurbished. Spotlessly clean bathroom! Our dog was fussed over by staff. Gabrielle was so sweet and friendly when serving us at dinner. A few small issues with the meal, whoever does the ordering had not expected so much custom. They had run out of my first two choices of mains and I settled for something I didn't enjoy. Service recovery good. Lovely desert. Overall a very pleasant place to stay, a beautiful old building, full of character and a real log fire blazing. View of the Windmill when eating out breakfast. Relaxing break, helpful staff.

Returned here recently and found NEW management so friendly and helpful Chris was great not bad I kitchen lol, rooms VERY good food v good and morning pack up first class totally enjoy my stays there.

Great venue in a lovely village. The food was great. That place is always busy on a Sunday so they are clearly doing something right. Give it a try.

This was my second stay in recent months.
The room we had was spotless, as was the bathroom. Bed was very cosy.
I do have to say, the service for our evening meal was very poor, even though it was not that busy.
We waited at our table for half an hour and nobody came. Eventually, my partner had to go and get someone. We decided to order our desert at the same time in case the kitchen shut.
The food did come fairly prompt and was ok.
We had to prompt someone to take our plates, and prompt yet again for pudding.
This was such a shame as last time we stayed, the service was good.
Breakfast was lovely and the service was second to none.
The man who served us was very polite and keen to know everything was ok.
Would still go again, and hope the evening service was just a blip.

Went on a Saturday afternoon/night in January, there were 14 of us for drinks in the afternoon and then a sit down dinner in the evening, and they put us in our own private area. Being in a private area did mean having to go and find staff when we wanted to order, which is why it's 4* not 5*, but the food was cooked well and all orders were correct, which can be a struggle in big parties. I didn't stay overnight but my family did and they said breakfast was really good with lots of choice and cooked to order.

Great English pub with lovely views of the church. Polite and attentive staff with tasty food from a menu with a good selection of different types of food. Good selection of beers including local ales and a very fine building with a good atmosphere.

Just an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast. Easy check in but not given much info. We had booked a table for dinner earlier in day but no one had entered into the dinner diary but luckily had room. Our room was comfortable and everything we needed in it for one night with a fantastic view of the church and windmill from our window. Dinner was tasty and good prices and arrived quickly after each course which was ok as only two of us. Breakfast was nice and plenty to eat but got order wrong and not the quantity as described on the menu which is no excuse as the chef should know what is in the menu if not at least read it so the correct items are plated up. Overall a lovely stay and would return, just small criticisms but great value for money.

Recently refurbished this pub offers good food and beers. Friendly staff, comfortable accommodation and a small car park. Always advisable to book your table in advance as it does get very busy at times.

Has the look of a very inviting place. Staff were friendly enough, but very young & talked amongst themselves quite loudly for everyone to hear. My sandwich was ok but the bread looked and tasted like shop sliced white loaf, so nothing special. Had the potential for being superb, but wasn't! Ok experience.

This is a good size pub and is in a great location. Good selection of ales and other drinks. Didn't have any food, however the menu looks very appetising. Overall a good experience and would definitely go there again.

Bad really bad as in the worst place to stay. Best if you just slept on a bench with rats on your face.

I had a great evening here! The pub is very lively, the staff is helpful and friendly; service is brisk. The interior is authentic and Thaxted is a nice place. The food was OK pub food and the English breakfast did clog all my arteries, as it should. The room I had was quite awful. Small, threadbare, with a cramped bathroom and it smelled badly. (But I did pay relatively little)

Nice hotell BUT very bad restaurant and services. Does not even know how to make a proper Ceasar sallad. As a main dish on the meny under all critics.

Really disappointed in the food, the atmosphere and the service. Arrived at 6.30pm, got drinks and sat on rear terrace. Seats all very wobbly — need a screwdriver to tighten up legs and backs. Couldn't have first choice starter as no smoked salmon so had pate. Arrived with two very thick slices of toast rather than 4 thin slices so insufficient bread surface to spread pate anything other than too thickly. My husbands' prawn cocktail had white rather than brown bread. My Lasagne was so overdone that it had shrunk away from the sides of the dish, the ends were burnt and hard and the centre was like leather. I sent it back and watched my husband consume his slightly overcooked gammon with English rather than French mustard as they couldn't find any!. As he finished his meal mine arrived. The lasagne was more of a spiced beef mince under an overly thick layer of cheese. I searched quite carefully but could find little in the way of pasta. We will not be returning, which is a pity as we have had many excellent meals here in the past.

We hate a meal here one lunchtime and was incredibly poor. We both had roast pork belly, and the pork itself was not nice at all. It wasn't crispy in the slightest and the there was just a big piece of flaccid fat on top of a somehow overcooked piece of pork. I assume that the boat of very watery gravy was supposed to be the honey and bourbon glaze but you it certainly didn't taste of it. The broccoli was was old and undercooked. The mashed potato was had clearly been prepared a long time ago and had that slight film on top. However the peas were quite nice. I would strongly recommend avoiding if you're looking for food.

The hotel element is great as a bed and breakfast for a stop off or short stay, food was fantastic in the 3 days my family of 4 stayed. Staff very welcoming. Pets welcome in both hotel and main bar, the only exception was the breakfast room which I totally agree with. Food prices very reasonable and hotel rooms cheap at 49£.

Good ambiance, good food, value for money.

Don't be put off by other reviews — it's a pub so don't expect haut cuisine, but good solid meals at good prices.

So welcoming — a roaring fire, really enjoyable food with real vegetables, and dog friendly. All this in one of the most beautiful villages in the UK! Really good service, we were so glad we stopped.
