Excellent 18 and 9 hole courses is very good condition. Hotel is an adequate 3 star hotel. Staff in the complex were all very professional, polite and helpful. Would definitely stay and play again.

Not only is the Essex G & CC in a wonderful location, it has a truly challenging 18 hole course, a superb academy course, all the facilities golfers & there families could want and legendary staff. It continues to build a rich history and will continue to produce exceptional golfers. I highly recommend a visit. Built by a family, for all the family.

Only been to the range there but it looks an impressive with a golf course, gym, tennis, restaurant. Would be a great place I imagine to be a member.

Friendly and welcoming club with excellent facilities. The refurbishment programme is awesome with state of the art gym equipment, lovely pool area and well equipped classes that are thoughtfully scheduled. All in all strongly recommended.

Amazing up to date gym and lovely friendly staff. Jacuzzi broken and lots of swimming lessons going on with patents watching which made relaxing hard. Rooms are not up to standard and are dated and worn out xx.

First session done today! Very friendly helpful and consistent with the exercise.

I had the Biotec facial on Saturday, best experience and feel like I have a new face. The most amazing Beauty therapist Chloe Wilson, will definitely be booking again. Professional, friendly and the most relaxing hour I have had in a long time. Thank you.

Bar closed at 11, as there were golf societies here there was nothing to do after 11 and it was his and miss to get a cab into Town. 3 course dinner took an age and The Breakfast was lukewarm. Staff were friendly but I would wish they would make up their mind in relation to the Tariff on golf buggies. Great course though.

I use the gym twice a week and I have never felt more comfortable or welcome anywhere else. Fantastic place with super friendly staff.

My nephew had his wedding here yesterday up to then everything was good, apart from the state of the bathrooms in the rooms and our rooms were on side of golf course so got woken up early by ppl playing golf (not amused) food and staff (during Saturday sunday) were brilliant very polite and helpful… then at 3am the fire alarm goes off NOT 1 member of staff on duty came to any of us outside untill 15 mins then they did the guest list and I was the only 1 on the list, ven though my brother sister in law both my sons and daughter in law were in the hotel there names were not called out a guest was still in his room from the wedding party who did not know anything as he slept through it all though there was no fire (some idiot had a cigarette in there room) it was absolutely disgusting on how the porter and 1 member of staff CHECKED the gym area etc BEFORE the quest area… then to top it all 6 guests including myself spent another 40mins waiting to get back in our rooms as the alarm had tripped the locking system and locked us out but only us all the others had managed to get into there rooms … on speaking to the manager on departure I was refunded half my stay cost this hotel needs to update there rooms update there fire procedures and certainly update the night porter’s on checking that all guests get bk to there rooms before he decides to settle himself back into a cosy office where none of us who were lockec out to find him only after a lot of banging on reception doors did

Absolutely disgusted at how the managment team Sarah Doyle + Shaun have treated a young 24 year old previous employee. This particular employee had been on minimum wage for 5 years working this this Business and after recieving no reward or recognition for her extremely hard work and overtime over these years she decided to take a leap and start her own Business up. She found a lovely room to rent and started her own Business Clientele and adapted her Instagram she previous…ly made with HER OWN WORK from Essex Aura to her New Business name and New work (To which she deleted everything not relevant from Essex Aura to her new Business from this account). Only to find that yesterday Sarah Doyle and Shaun have HACKED her Business Instagram account, changed the password, deleted all her work from her New Business and not so much have given a message or phone call to explain to this young girl. She had clients details and confirmed appointments on message on this Instagram so straight away this is a MASSIVE data protection issue for her Clients. This is extremely poor and horrendous to try and sabotage a Young Girls Business before it has even managed to properly start. I do not think your Business deserves any Clients at all if this is how you treat your ex employees, with petty, vile, violation of privacy attitude.

From start to finish a great experience. Greeted by a course marshal at the starters hut, the course out of bounds etc and how the course is playing advice.
The course was immaculate and in fantastic condition, beautiful fairways, receptive greens and running very true.
All in all a marvellous course and a must visit.

Challenging golf course with some interesting holes. Well looked after.

I don't know where to start! We got married here yesterday and from our initial enquiry with Charlotte from events, to the viewing, communication and planning throughout has been exceptional. ALL of the staff involved in meeting us and working yesterday have done an absolutely amazing job. From reception staff with massive congratulations for us to Charlotte from food and beverage for running it and setting the venue up to look magical, to Peter for your absolute perfect dedication and being so accommodating and attentive to both Sherrie and myself as well as our guests, it was meticulous everything was absolutely perfect and everything we could of imagined and more. The venue is so beautiful we loved it from the minute we saw it. We were so lucky yesterday the weather was perfect the food has always been amazing and the staff are top notch. It wouldn't have been as magical without you all! We cannot thank you enough!

Love this place. Stayed many times. Rooms are comfortable (could do with some updating if there was a moan) but always clean tidy and a good sleep. Staff are great and always helpful!

Stayed here on tuesday had a great night even got a round of golf in will be back soon.

Just had my wedding here and I can't speak highly enough of just how fantastic this place is as a wedding venue. From the initial meetings with Charlotte and Michelle in the events team, you are looked after from start to finish with a personal service rather than the traditional conveyer belt style of the wedding industry. The rooms available for hire are fantastic, the flights suite in particular is plenty big enough for a fantastic party, a room we filled with a 5 piece band with full light rigging and huge dancefloor with space to spare! They will literally do everything they can to make your day special, Charlotte and Sheila on the Catering Team are people who make sure your day goes without any issues. Then there's the food… forget the traditional small food portions and buffet at weddings, this place makes sure your guests are fed properly. They will be treated to brilliant portion sizes and great quality food and that's before we get on to the vast amounts of food for the evening buffet. Combine all this with the fantastic views of the golf course and a lovely bridge for those all important photos — all we heard from our guests is 'This is the best Wedding we've ever been to'. They won't let you down.

Whilst the settings are beautiful there just seems to be something not 100% right. The room was functional and pretty much what you'd expect. But it was the little things like bar service (slow), breakfast (had to take cutlery from another table, ask for sauces and bread foe the toaster) and paying on the room (despite giving my details, I tried to pay on two occasions by putting it on my room to be told my details were not in the system, luckily I had my wallet). All first world problems, but still a little annoying.

Good facilities good food. Course needs a bit of TLC but ok.

Came here for a friends birthday party in the evening. We stayed the weekend. Nice venue set amongst the rural Essex countryside. Nice lunch and good value. The hotel by its nature favours Golf and Tennis, you just have to respect the members, as there are some areas excluded for the public. Good sized pool for the kids. Staff were pleasant and efficient.

I’ve been trying to book a teetime here, the last few weekends. Management, in its infinite wisdom has decided to sell off all the teetimes after 11am to societies, or hotel guests. Honestly Scott doesn’t know how to run a golf club… what a Buffoon. The golf operations manager is hopeless too. In fact, the only person who does a decent job is the handicap secretary.

Great establishment. The course is always playable when others aren't, the facilities are 1st class. Upgrades and maintenance is always kept up and the manager really knows what he's doing.

Attended a Christmas party night. Food ok and disco ok. Venue great as you can stay over night.

I am a member at the golf course, which is an excellent one. It is in good condition even at this time of the year.

Didn't think much to the meal. The veg and a lump of Turkey just dumped on the plate. Had a lot better other places for a lot less money. Asked them if we could have some cream with dessert and was told no they didn't have any. The disco was not too bad but didn't play many Christmas records.

Great venue for a golf club. Powered wheelchair users be aware the venue has a lift but the doors are narrow and there is limited room for a second person and a powered chair.

The Gym and Pool were excellent. Room was a little dated very noisy in the nights. If you are having breakfast be aware 9.95 to book with room but if you walk in for breakfast 6.95

Very tidy, respected golf club. Dinner, bar and plenty of halls. Plenty of parking. Slightly out in the sticks with not too much around.

Garden suite is a lovely & big room with a nice view of the course. The bed was nice and comfy and a decent size.
Bathroom was also a decent size and nicely furnished. Unfortunately the dressing table had a broken shelf which needed the slightest touch to almost fall out completely.
The food in the pulse bar was average at best, the hunters chicken we had in the evening looked presentable but the chicken was chewy, slightly tough and dry like it had been in the freezer for a while. The breakfast the next morning wasn't anything special either, bacon was quite thick and chewy but the rest of the full English was alright.
The continental breakfast (which featured fried food) had cold hash browns, beans & bacon, the rest was quite nice.
The nicest food we had was the pizza via room service which was lovely. For the one night we stayed it was alright, not sure if it justified the price though. Wouldn't want to stay any longer than one night.

This hotel over books their rooms. I had booked online and received my confirmation only to be called 3 days later to have to be cancelled, very disappointing. I booked through an online agent, which still days after being told they were fully booked, rooms were still being advertised as available. Be careful when booking this hotel.

The hotel was ok, the room was neat, we arrived late just before the reception was to close was told I had reserved a twin room which I did not Managed to get a double room. Went to use the spa but they had swimming lessons in the pool and people sitting watching which made me go for breakfast which was #£9.99 each way over priced. Went to ask at the reception when the swimming lessons were to last only to be told after 2pm on top of that the Jacuzzi was not working. Well annoyed. In the evening asked if they was anyway we could sit outside as it was so hot only to be told that they had a private party in the sitting area in the garden the only place available was in the bar garden and for me to take my wine I had to pay £, 12. Service was bad.

The Cheeky Monkeys Day Nursery and Pre School based here is fantastic! Kids love it! never any trouble dropping them off to their assigned carers! Mini bus, Forest School its got it all.

As a member of the Essex I am disappointed at the lack of Health and Safety around the pool. Non slip tiles replaced with domestic slippy ones means not one day goes by without some poor person going over around the pool — are the club interested? no! As for the general facilities the last two occasions I have ordered food I have had to wait in excess of 45 minutes for it to arrive — even with constant reminders to the staff. I have written to the general manager X3 but without reply. I suggest Benton Hall as a better option for recreation.
