At first, we weren't really looking forward to the trip to 'The Cumberland' as our preference in hotels was the Durley Dean Hotel. As this was a last minute booking, we were forced to stay at the Cumberland. However when we arrived at the hotel, the children (who were keen on the Durley Dean Hotel) were absolutely stunned at both the views and the external appearance of the hotel itself. The ambiance of the hotel was also very calm and peaceful which was what we were looking for on this short escape. There wasn't much parking in any of the 3 hotels next to each other, however we understood this was due to an Easter lunch. Soon after it was over, our parking permit enabled us to park in various bays. The room itself was the 'San Francisco' room on the third level which was fantastic, alot better than the hotel that we were hoping to stay in. Being our first visit, I can definitely say that we will visit again. The room had obviously had the theme of San Francisco which was portrayed with the Golden Gate Bridge Wallpaper. There were plenty of complimentary beverages with which we were more than happy. The children happily enjoyed warm cups of hot chocolate whilst the adults enjoyed some tea. The toilets and the room itself was very clean and immaculate with almost no dust or dirt. The best feature of the bedroom was the balcony. The balcony was absolutely terrific as it allowed ventilation to spread around the room and some fresh air outside, especially because of the hot weather! The view of the balcony into the sea was very nice and pleasant as we were able to see some terrific views! The beds were very comfortable and the children kept going on about how soft they were and even got to the point of wanting to buy them! We were very pleased with the accommodation. There were also plenty of switches for electrical appliances and some magazines and guides to exciting site seeing attractions within the seaside resort. There were more than enough leisure facilities for us to use however was sometimes a bit of a problem as the sister hotel was the only hotel which had facilities for us to use. We were able to access a huge, spacious swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, a great, warm sauna and some secured locks within the changing rooms. The children thoroughly enjoyed the leisure facilities which was a highlight to the day. We were also able to access a pool table and a table tennis and a badminton court. The only very minor issue that occurred during the trip which I feel should be attended to is the creaky sound which was constantly disturbing us. Because our room was right next to the entrance door of rooms 307-317, we were constantly being disturbed by the sound. A bit of oil will definitely make it better. In conclusion, this hotel is a fantastic hotel with plenty of nearby facilities for people to access. I will definitely return sometime in the year of even next year! I thank all the friendly staff who made our stay even better and also will compliment the delicious and yummy breakfast provided in the morning. There was plenty of choice and lovely food.
