If you're after a long wait and deep hole in your pocket, then the Burrator is the place to go. As a result of the extremely below par staff we were left so so disappointed with our experience. After such long waits, cold food, lack of service, no drinks were we welcomed at the till with incredibly confrontational staff/manager. My wife and friend are both heavily pregnant so a full blown argument was not what we wanted when belittled infront of other customers by the manager, quote "well you've cleared your plate". Reluctantly paid for glorified pie and mash, as no remorse was shown by any of the staff. The most discourteous staff I've experienced in a very long time, will not be returning to this shambles.

I hate complaining, however, my experience here was very poor. This place is lacking both class and hospitality. Food "ok", however, over priced for what we received. Waited 50 minutes for a scotch egg, and a further 45mins for a main meal. Drinks took just as long, some of which didn't turn up. The staff didn't acknowledge any of this, and dealt with us with a lot of attitude. When suggesting we didn't think we should be paying full price, the woman behind the bar stated "well you cleared your plates didn't you? " Yes we did, after such a long wait, we were pretty darn hungry. Anyway, we had £15 (the drinks, of which some didn't turn up) knocked off our £97 bill… in the end we didn't argue anymore as they came across as very confrontation and unapologetic. Don't waste your time or money here…

Nice refurb and mostly good experience :) Guy behind the bar was very friendly, welcoming and obliging while ordering! :) We chose to sit outside and from what we could see no tables had numbers assigned to them? (unsure if inside tables have numbers). The guy behind the bar understood my description of our location and had selected our table to go with our order, but unfortunately, we soon discovered our food was delivered to the wrong table as some of the waitresses walk around to multiple tables saying "Did you order the…? " leaving the wrong-customer to either lie and accept the food or for the customer to miss-hear and say yes anyway… by the time 'some' food had came to us, it was the wrong choice of meat and by this time the meat we'd paid for 30/45 minutes earlier had completely sold out so we had no choice but to accept it… One of the waitresses then suggested we "Came for Sunday roast at midday if you want more options on the menu next time… " (Granted we ordered just after 3.30pm, although at the time of purchase, it was in stock… it was the table mix up that made us miss out) I was able to receive a refund for the difference in cost of the cheaper meat, as we didn't enjoy it fully and were a rather put off by the error as it wasn't what we'd ordered.

Lovely food (I’d prefer the option of bigger portions though) very welcoming, dog friendly which is great.

The staff are ever so pleasant, as is the Inn itself. Not to keen on the shady lighting and very small print menus, but that does not take away anything from it being well worth a visit. Our meal was very nice last not as was the friendly atmosphere to eat it in.

We came here for my partners birthday last night, warm welcome, seated straight away, food and drinks order taken and food came out really quick. The food was amazing. Complements to the chef. Once we had finished our main, our plates weren't cleared, even though our waitress walked past us quite a few times. She was stood by the kitchen, swearing, and chatting with friends, we had to go to the bar to order our deserts. They were finally brought out, before our main plates were cleared, the waitress was rude, and blunt, continuing to swear whilst walking into kitchen, and stood in restaurant swearing at her friend. Really unprofessional and rude member of staff. I called a number of times today to discuss with the manager, he was "busy" and did not return my calls. Such a shame as the restaurant and food were excellent, but female waitress and unresponsive management has put us off coming back.

Disappointed. Food quality doesn't quite match the standards advertised. Sausages were tasty but bought from Leamington Spa! why not use some of the local farms or butchers! Mustrd Mash had clearly been microwaved with no mustard! and onion gravy was simply bisto with no onion. Staff were OK. Worth driving the extra mile for REALLY good pub food at the Walkhampton.

Stopped in to the Burrator for lunch very busy but even though we hadnt booked the lovely lady behind the bar found us a table. We ordered a pie and a lamb shank and both were delicious we will definitely be returning.

Waitresses with attitudes long waits got there at 2pm didn’t leave till 430! first time I’ve been there since the refurb wouldn’t go back! over priced not very good value for money, quality over quantity is good but in this case both was sorely lacking.

We went to The Burrator Inn for the first time in years last night for dinner and it’s our new favourite place. The staff were so attentive and friendly and the food was gorgeous. We will be back and bringing all our friends!

Food was not cooked properly, one staff member was very rude, no apology or offer of a different meal, we were just told we could have a refund. Staff refused to get the manger for us. She was very argumentative. Over all very disappointing.

My partner and our two girls (3 year old and 3 month old) visited this lovely pub today after a day of puddle jumping around Burrator Reservoir. We were very soggy and cold due to the rainy weather and decided to get some hot lunch to warm us up before our journey home. My partner ordered our food and drinks however when going to pay realised he had misplaced his debit card and neither of us had any cash. The staff were really understanding and allowed us to bank transfer the funds to cover the bill. Nothing was too much hassle for the staff and the food was very tasty! Thank you for allowing us to get some hot food despite our problem with payment. We will be recommending this place to everyone :) x.

A friend & myself had lunch in this pub today but never again. The meal was inedible: steak & ale pie, the pastry was hard, the meat chewy (flashback for me to Primary School, as I lost a lot of playtime because I was forced to eat the meat), & it only looked like it had been shown the ale as there was no taste. Pea's hard. Anyway after trying to eat it, we sent it back. The ' lady ', owner/ manager, came storming over, very rude on the point of aggression. She informed us there was nothing wrong with the food, she had served 30 meals of this today, which as we were in around 1.30pm, meant she must have served it for breakfast! No apology, no offer of a refund & I think she assumed we were visiting but we are LOCAL.

Lovely family pub serves great food. Nice little park area for children. Love nothing better than a long walk around Burrator then rewarding myself with a nice pint of cider in here.

Great outdoor play area for kids. This is also where most of the outdoor seating is. There are no dogs allowed in this area but there is some outdoor dog friendly seating as well. Dogs are also allowed in the bar area but not the restaurant. We found the food to be good value and with friendly service.

AA rated at 4 stars, which for a pub on the edge of nowhere is pretty good going. Food selection is fairly wide, and the menu varies seasonally, using local produce in a lot of the dishes. Clean and welcoming, to people and their dogs, with a kids play area off to one side of the building. A good place to stay for a pint or stay for the night, with a small number of good quality rooms available, meaning it really IS an Inn. Recommended any time of year.

Extremely disappointed Bank holiday Monday and we decided to go in to the Burrator pub for lunch. We were out with another couple and their 1 year old. The issues started with the high chair for their little one was covered in dirt and did not look as though it had ever been wiped. Then we ordered our lunch, 2 meals of which were the poachers chicken, which turned up slightly raw inside and extremely rubbery. I decided to take both meals back saying that could we have something else or could the chicken be returned to the grill to finish cooking. I was then greeted by the land lady and told “there is nothing wrong with it the chef would not send out something that was raw! ” I then said “I’m afraid there is, it is not fully cooked it is still a little pink inside and it is extremely rubbery and not nice to taste” she then replied “well there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s chargrilled chicken it’s meant to be like that! ” She then handed the meals back and walked away… I then asked another waitress if she could please just return the chicken to the grill to cook for a little longer and finally she did so. I got the meal back it was much better cooked although after that I could not enjoy it. I was extremely disappointed and somewhat surprised with the attitude I received from the land lady. I would not recommend this pub to anyone.

I went to The Burrator Inn yesterday with my brother and we were very impressed with the service, friendliness, & the food. My brother had ham egg & chips & I had the steak & ale pie and it was the best I've ever had ANYWHERE! Will certainly return again Thankyou! Becky & Neil.

Delicious food and very good choice. Scenery is very nice too.

Good, honest good and plenty of it. Too many children here for my liking, can be a bit like a kids club at times.

Great home cooked, fresh food and lovely atmosphere, a nice change from the chain pubs of nearby Plymouth.

Great sociable place, lovely food. Close to the moors and reservoir. Love it!
