Food is amazing and good value for money. Dog friendly in the bar area with special treats on the bar for them. Definitely worth the visit.

A "hidden" gem. Doesn't look like much from the exterior but when you walk in a warm welcome awaits you. We visited a few times for drinks and food. The service from the bar staff is superb no matter which day you go in, the beer garden at the back is brilliant whatever the weather as well. The quality of the food is great. Highly recommend the pie and fish. There's a wide selection of beers, ales, and spirits available.

Popped in for food on the off chance and we weren't disappointed. Nice atmosphere and lovely food. The staff were helpful and friendly which is always a plus.

Lovely staff. Though we booked a table for indoors, we were allowed to choose an outdoor one. My husbands fish and chips was the biggest piece of fish I'd ever seen, and it tasted wonderful. My scampi was lovely and the chips are perfect. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

Just had a very splendid meal with the wife on valentine's day. I had sirloin med to rare with all the trimmings and pepper sauce and it was lush the steak was melt in the mouth. My better half had the sirloin but med to well done and changed the chips for a jacket and the onion rings for salad and she wasn't disappointed. The occasion was brilliant with sue the landlady really helpful and friendly. Well done.

The food was EXACTLY what I needed on New Years Day following a couple of drinks on the previous evening! The food was well cooked and very tasty. But the highlight of the visit was the two lads who were serving. They were polite, professional, chatty. They appeared to have the experience which is way beyond their years. It was well worth the 27 mile trip from Lichfield. Well done all.

Been a few times. Always excellent. The team is very young but it works well can’t fault any part of it. We live 60 miles away but always make a new line for it when we come to Ashbourne. 5 star.

A really lovely pub in the very heart of Ashbourne — right on the Market Square. Home cooked good to die for and the chips were awsome! Succulent ribs dripping with sauce and the tagliatelle was perfect. Dog friendly too!

Stopped here for lunch after a few hours in Matlock bath, very friendly staff, and the food was just amazing would definitely come again, maybe stay over in one of the bedrooms they provide really enjoyed our visit here.

We popped into the George and Dragon for lunch and were very impressed. The young staff members are all charming and professional and the food was outstanding! The menu has plenty of choice and everything is reasonably priced. My husband and I both agreed that it was one of the best pub meals we've ever had so we returned the following day. 10/10.

Stayed here with my son. Twin room (no2) on side road and whilst a little small, had everything we needed but because of the position of the pub on the edge of the square and on a major road it was quite noisy. Beds were comfortable though and we slept ok. Kitchen only open til 8pm so get down there early. Food was very good though and there was plenty of it. Nice selection of beers and really friendly staff make this a good place to stay for a couple of nights if you're going to Alton Towers like we did.

Friendly village centre pub. Ordered a Dragon Burger which is a bacon cheesburger like no other I have ever tried. The Beef patty was larger and thicker than any I have seen, but even more it was the most delicious burger I have every eaten! Matched with relish and topped with thick cheese and plenty of bacon this is a delight I want to sample more often!

Recommend the Dragon burger… It's the hottest bugger I've been ever served. Not spicy just cooked to perfection. Friendly service and atmosphere… worth a look.

Great pub in the centre of Ashbourne. You would never dream that there is a lovely beer garden at the rear. The Food is good quality pub grub. Very friendly staff too! Highly recommended.

The bar life is very busy and the staff are gorgeous (ladies and men) so lots to engage in. Food is pretty tasty too. For anyone staying overnight or longer these are old pub rooms with modern amenities.

Stayed at the George & Dragon for two nights, room basic but clean, food fantastic ate there both nights, staff lovely, very friendly and welcoming, Will definitely be staying again.

It was just "okay" The rack of ribs was quite bland and overcooked somewhat, the chips are fantastic and the onion rings okay. Birra Morreti should not taste like that, the lines to the kegs clearly need cleaning on a more regular basis (twice a week). The lamb shank was perfect according to my friend, so maybe just some menu items? Anyway, half decent if you are starving, just don't expect much.

Having recently relocated from South Africa to England we chose Ashbourne as our place to call home. Our very first pub we walked into on the day we arrived was the George and Dragon, we fell in love immediately. We were made to feel welcome by the dedicated and friendly staff … we have ventured out and explored other pubs in the village but this is the place we call home we absolutely love the ambience and the dog culture, so we frequent here the most. We have met incredible locals some of whom have become dear friends. Sue and Dave (owners) are committed to excellence in hospitality, the food is always wonderful and the company beautiful. Jack and Ryan … behind the bar … wonderful young men and an asset to this establishment. Cheers to the George and Dragon and all who frequent it and work there.

Just visiting Ashbourne Market and popped in here for a drink. Stayed for lunch. Had beef and it was lovely and tender. The portions were plentiful and hot. Staff friendly will go again.

Great pub! It's our local and we go for meals here frequently. The food quality is great, only issue is not enough tables! Also the pub dog is adorable.

Good looking pub, with a tasteful interior. Good selection of cask beer, and (I’m told) decent wine offer. Had steak and ale pie and it was really good. Best pub we visited whilst in Ashbourne. The two barmaids were excellent — friendly and professional. Would certainly recommend.

What a wonderful place warm cosy brilliant costumer service from all the staff especially Bee behind the bar. Stayed over night for my birthday unfortunately didn’t try the food but it looked amazing so will be returning to try a steak which locals recommend! Real good value for money. Only gripe was few cob webs above my head in bed had been missed room 1 but that’s not gonna put us off.

Excellent food wonderful staff, I fell in love with the dog lol and the staff were slightly amused when my husband asked for milk on his bread and butter pudding, sorry seriously can't take him any where!

Dropped in after a very long walk yesterday. Service was unhurried, polite and friendly. Food was amazing but not expensive. Would recommend to anyone in the area.

Extremely disappointing experience in this pub last night. Called in around 7.25pm for a bite to eat & advised barmaid accordingly. No free table but one became available at 7.35. Barmaid cleared table & advised that we would need to place our order by 8pm. My husband went to the bar at 7.45 to order… had to wait as a couple who came in after us were ordering their food. When my husband tried to place an order at 7.50 he was told that the kitchen was not taking any further orders… unbelievably poor level of customer service.

Lovely place to eat and drink, great atmosphere, friendly staff, locals and guests. Usual beers with only 3 (but nice) ales to choose from. Lovely steak and ale pie and 8oz steaks. Dessert selection is not so great but it is a pub at the end of the day and the price reflects that. Dogs are welcome and when I was there well behaved and didn't smell of dogs or see any hair at all.

Excellent pint of Pedigree and other local beers, great food on offer including Bakewell Tart. Excellent for visitors to Ashbourne, welcoming and pet friendly. Watch out for the resident dog (only kidding he's lovely).

The George and Dragon is essentially a pub with rooms above. It was great however that the rooms had their own access. The room we had, although not massive was comfortable enough. The pub downstairs serve great beer and great food. I can not fault it at all. The young girl who booked us in who I believe is the Landlords daughter was extremely friendly and helpful, as indeed were all the staff. Thank you for a great stay!

Bog standard pub. Has what you'd expect and not much more, in some cases less. Plenty of room at the bar with reasonable service and friendly staff but not a great selection of beer. Price standard for the area. Ample seating and music playing helps the atmosphere. Food is good, provided you can find a menu, the waiting time is ok. Entertainment includes a pool table, quiz machine, live music and other events however doesn't have tv. PintForce.
