The Devonshire Grassington Hotel

The staff are friendly and it's a lovely environment.

We’ve actually visited Grassington last year staying in The Devonshire lodge but we wanted to return to get the full Devonshire experience…. And what a fantastic experience it’s been. Matt, Kirsty and their team are fantastic; polite, professional and hard working. Despite their massive footfall, the bar area retains the feel of a local, a regular group of friendly locals see to that. If you’re a beer lover then you’re in for a treat. Especially if you’re a Timothy Taylor fan 👌Gin your thing? Then you’ll be equally pleased, their list is vast. … as I’ve said, we’ve been previously so knew the food was good BUT it was even better this time around; breakfast, sandwich at lunch and the evening meals were absolutely top draw 👍 in fact my lad commented that the sticky toffee pudding was the best he’d ever had. Our room (we stayed in the Siegfried Farnon) Was well equipped and comfortable. Just be aware you’re staying in a busy pub, so if you’re planning early nights and long lay-ins, there will be noise because there are actually other people staying here and using the pub/restaurant. We will 100% come back again to this beautiful pub in lovely Grassington.

Went with wife and daughter a few weeks ago and loved it! Delicious food, excellent service and a great atmosphere in the dining room. I had the perfectly cooked Lamb Shank, with my wife and daughter having the delicious Beetroot and Goats Cheese Wellington. An excellent selection of beers and wines too.

We spent our honeymoon in the Skeldale Suite. Had s wonderful 2 days in Grassington. Would recommend it to friends. The scenery was beautiful, had some lovely walks. Staff at The Devonshire were lovely. Food was delicious, especially Mrs Halls full English breakfast.

Lovely place for lunch. Food was perfect and quickly brought out. Staff were great and friendly. Highly recommended.

Popped in for lunch and ordered a club sandwich and a ham and pickle sandwich both came with chips delicious side salad with a dressing and coleslaw. All presented well by friendly staff. Be warned though the sandwiches are a good portion and we could easily have had the one club sandwich between the two of us……stuffed!

Love the pub, fantastic atmosphere normally but today was totally spoilt by the constant yapping of a dog. Went on forever. Staff did nothing to restore the peace.

Just returned from spending our Anniversary mini break at The Devonshire.
Cant recommend it enough.
Great atmosphere, great food, great drinks, great owners and managers.

The suite was amazing and very clean.
An amazing dog friendly pub which has 4 rooms available for doggies too.
Our Havana loved every minute of it along with the scrummy sausages.
We will definitely be back in the not too distant future.

Just returned from a nights stay. Room was very clean, lovely decor, everything you needed. Food was fantastic as always and the pub is so welcoming and cosy with a great selection of drinks. Fantastic friendly staff very helpful. We will be returning.

A great pub in a beautiful village. Staff and landlord/landlady are friendly and welcoming. Good Covid measures in place. A varied selection of drinks at reasonable prices. Had lunch and it was very tasty and there was a good choice. I would recommend.

During these troubled times the Devonshire are doing takeaway meals. My partner and I have just had a gorgeous Sunday roast and a pudding, absolutely stuffed and at a reasonable price. So much food that even our pet greyhound has had a blowout. Would highly recommend and a credit to their profession. Many many thanks,

The best Sunday Roast I have had in a long time! 3 slices of beef, lots of veg, extra cauliflower cheese and greens, huge Yorkshire Pudding, lashings of gravy and individual Horseradish portions. Delicious!
The staff are always friendly and helpful too. Nothing is too much trouble.

Brilliant food, absolutely massive portions, been a very long time since I couldn't manage a pud too which is a shame as they looked amazing. Will definitely be back.

We stayed the other night, the room was ok nothing special, the radiator needed bleeding as it was hot at the bottom n not the top, the windows were very old so rattled a lot, the staff were lovely n very pleasant, the dinner was delicious but needed to be on a bigger plate, the breakfast wasn’t that nice, egg was overcooked n bacon undercooked n beans cold, won’t be returning.

Brilliant friendly and warm pub. Great food, all the staff are friendly and treat you like a local. Food amazing and a very reasonable price. 5 star.

Just had a perfect meal with my wife, which happened to be steak night.
The food was perfectly cooked to our liking and the bottle of Shiraz was very quaffable.

Spent a week in Grassington and frequented The Devonshire every day. Friendly service, good food and good company from both locals and tourists alike.

Stayed one night at the last minute, gorgeous room, comfy bed, had a lovely meal in the evening, great breakfast too, nice friendly staff. Would stay there again.

Old pub/hotel. Capacious. Outside seating available. Cosy in winter. Pleasant bar food. Often busy. Welcome, though weak and variable, Wi-Fi.

Nice pub just off square at Grassington. Good selection of real ales. On the night we went it was quite chaotic, despite it not being very busy. Poor guy behind the bar was dealing with bar orders, hotel reception duties, taking food orders and dealing with customer complaints, which included one couple who ended up leaving after waiting some time to be served. Our food was fine but waitress forgot to bring back salt and pepper. Food served till 9, but when one hotel guest asked to book a table for 8.30 was told that it might not be possible since kitchen staff wanted to knock off early. Maybe not a typical night for them, but it was painful to watch.

Had a family get together on Sunday we booked and pre ordered our food. The staff were really good as two from the party couldn't attend and they were fine with cancel food. The food was really good we all enjoyed it the puddings were amazing and really good portion size. We will be back.

First the good stuff: lovely room, comfy bed, nice bathroom. Dinner good value, obviously freshly prepared, decent and fairly priced wine.
HOWEVER! Place seemed to be run by kids, didn’t see a grown up, ie someone over about 23, for the whole time. This led to some bizarre things, such as them taking a table reservation for dinner at 8pm, and then when we came down for a pre dinner drink, just before 8, being told by one of the kids that “sorry, but the kitchen closed at 8”!
Another kid intervened and got the kitchen to do dinner for us!
There was a big sign up in the bar saying “sorry, cash only”. When I asked about paying our bill when checking out there was a big kids conference, followed by “ oh, we hadn’t thought about that”. The outcome was that I had to go to the one hole in the wall in Grassington and get cash out to pay a hotel and dinner bill! What if the auto bank had been out of order?
Only hotel I’ve ever stayed in where the front door remained locked till at least 10 in the morning, had to knock on window to be let back in att 9.50 am, having had to ask to be let out at 9am… weird or what.
We liked the place, honestly, but it needs a grown up presence and the application of a bit of common sense.

The staff is welcoming and friendly. It's a nice place and the garden is lovely. I only had a drink, I cannot advise you on the food.

The most expensive Sunday Roast EVER! I paid £28 for two roast beef dinners about half an hour ago. We were given 2 slices of overcooked grey looking beef, 3 tiny roast potatoes and the veg that was given was limp mange tout and under cooked carrots. I was given a minuscule piece of broccoli. The meal was also Luke warm!
The alarm bells rang when one member of staff gave us salt and vinegar with our cutlery.
When a member of staff asked how the meal was we immediately stated that the food wasn’t to our satisfactory and that she said she’d tell the chef. The waitress didn’t return, nor did she apologise to us. The same waitress came over to clear our plates so I asked whether we could have our money back, however because we had eaten what was meant to be an adult portion of food we weren’t able to. If the chef ran out of some of the ingredients isn’t it best to take that meal off the menu instead of ripping customers off? We also noticed that other customers who ordered food received big portions and looked edible. I have always believed that the customer is always right and if ever a customer complained to me I’d do my upmost to make sure they’d return by either refunding them or offered them a complimentary drink or dessert, however we received nothing of the kind and as a result this is why I am having to complain.
I am now £28 down and having to stop off at another pub because we are still hungry!

A very enjoyable stay. The staff were very pleasant. The room was Lovely overlooked the village square.

Definitely recommended, great location right in the village (think really big courtyard rather than village :D). There were bigger rooms which were taken. A bigger room would have got 5 stars (stayed in room 5). Good breakfast and friendly staff. Restaurant I would only give 3 stars as the food was just fine. Nothing exciting, not amazing, ok value and the menu was a little on the small side and there's other options just footsteps away from the front door. Stay there perhaps check your options for eating locally.

Staff very friendly and nice especially a lovely girl who looked after outdoor tables. Bar staff helpful despite very busy Saturday. Good meals and choice of few classic lagers.

Wow what a beautiful meal. They set a table up for us in bar area because we had the dog with us. Fantastic food. Everyone mentions the staff, this group are a fantastic accommodating team. Whoever owns this place must be or should be so proud.

Went there Friday night for a meal the staff were very friendly and polite and the food was delicious I would recommend the Devonshire, we have been here many a time and never been disappointed, in fact July last year some of my sons wedding party cose to stay here the night before his wedding in Burnsel and they all had a great night, try it you’ll find it very good.

Friendly service but was very busy and running a reduced menu when we visited on new years eve. No gas in soft drinks meant a wait for the kids. Food was good but not outstanding.

Good reliable pub, in a lovely town. We visited in that period between Xmas and New Year. The staff seemed a little frazzled and there were several times I heard them tell customers that this or that were not available. Nevertheless, we had a beer and some crisps and we were happy.

The food was lovely, but the service was very slow. It was nice and warm with a cozy atmosphere. Also, it would have been helpful to know that pets were allowed. I wasn't expecting to share the space with so many animals. I'm not a pet person at all.

Been in twice to try to order food. Got ignored both times and ended up going to the black horse which is lovely. Not nice when you're pregnant and can't face walking any further.

Beautiful hotel & bar with a warm welcome. Comfortable seating, real fires & a good selection of food & drinks. Previous meals have been lovely & although there was a mix-up with food ordered on this visit the serving staff had great customer service & were quick to correct.

Just called in on finding the only Chip Shop in Grassington was closed after our walk. So glad we did, I was really hungry and ask if they were still serving Sunday lunch. We ordered two Meals with Lamb and seasonal vegetables. £11:00 each. We had an average wait and tooled into it. It was absolutely beautiful, just like home made. We liked it so much we complemented the staff. The Beer was of very good quality not in anyway tampered with, watered down.

Unorganized service with no food available. Many groups were turned away and staff lacked teamwork. Rooms were decorated to a high standard and were spotlessly clean.

Sorry for the 1 star but honestly, I came here this evening with my daughter and ordered fish and chips, whilst we were waiting to order there was a member of staff who looked so stressed I asked her what was wrong and she said she could cry, not many staff on and all multitasking which is fine but not at the expense of first impressions. When our food arrived you had already put salt all over our both our plates of chips and the fish well there wasn't any underneath all of the batter, which was a complete waste of money as my daughter wouldn't eat it and the only reason I did was because I had over an hours drive which I didn't want to do on an empty stomach late evening after walking all day. Must say it's a shame considering your other reviews but unfortunately wasn't the best experience and I very rarely complain when I go to places so I'm not serial complainer. If it wasn't the lady looking so stressed and rushing around I would have asked for a refund.

There were about 30 of us having a meal for my friends 50th birthday on Saturday evening. The staff could not do enough for us kind and courteous! The meal was beautiful… lovely pub, lovely food, lovely staff… thank you!
