After a 6 hour drive you want, good food quick service good choice of local beer. Perfect we hit this place on the off chance for Sunday Roast. We ate a years supply of meat and I blew my ears off with Horseradish, er indoors had the Chicken. Great quality, great service nice people. Hell yeah. Thank you.

Food and drinks by the fire after climbing Blencathra was just what we needed! Food was also fabulous! Rooms cosy, but clean and comfortable. Thanks for the free coffee on our way out the next morning… we’ll be back!

Excellent value stay — cozy comfortable room, powerful shower, warm and welcoming atmosphere and delicious food — we brought our 15 week old puppy and she loved being fussed over by everyone — we’ll definitely return!

Just had a wonderful mini Christmas break at this hotel, great staff, lovely food great location lovely open fire in the bar, rooms immaculate we will be back.

It’s in a great location just outside Grasmere Village. The rooms are very clean and beds comfy. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Very dog friendly. The food was wonderful both breakfast and everything meal. This is the 3rd time we have started here and would recommend it.

Popped in a few weeks ago to ask if they served coffee. A member of staff in the bar very curtly told me NO! No explanation. Very rude.

Great location for this Inn, overlooked both sides by the hills. The menu is varied and has something for all my only reason for not giving it 5 was that there was only one veggie dining option that I could see! It was however one of the best veggie chillies I have ever had so well done to them on this. They have a great selection of drinks suiting all tastes and would recommend the raspberry lemonade special they had it was delicious! Quality food and also some great desert selections too — could easily have spent the whole afternoon in this venue! Staff were polite and helpful all in all a lovely afternoon meal.

Pros :Neat clean place, location scenic (only problem is noise of traffic), staff courteous, polite n efficient. Cons : Rooms very small, no space to go around the bed, height of sealing low, pure vegetarian food hardly a choice. Had to do with porridge, cereals n fruit. Even the bread, croissant had eggs; the vegetable sausage egg content was doubtful. Moreover the utensils for veg n non veg food were the same. Price was steep for the facility.

Just been for lunch today. I ordered the aubergine and vegetable dish and I must say, for the money it was huge! I couldn't eat it all. So tasty. Can I recommend maybe a slice of cut loaf or a roll to "mop-up" the juices? My daughters had the burger and chicken and they both loved their meal. Beautiful scenery as soon as you step out of the door after a lovely meal. Thanks.

Visited this canal side pub after a night traveling up the canal. What an amazing quirky place this is. Lots to see including a museum upstairs. The pub was very quiet as it was quite late on when we arrived. There is lots of seating either inside or outside next to the canal which is very good. The only fault was us designated drivers couldn’t get a coffee as the kitchen was closed. This meant the coffee machine had been turned off. Other than that little blip the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Great pint after a long walk, the dinner. Hubby had Ham Steak (Gammon back home) he really enjoyed it but I thought presentation was a bit lacking, but main thing is he enjoyed it. I asked for Feta cheese and sun dried tomato ham wrapped chicken with chips and tossed salad instead of potatoes veg and gravy, so I was a bit surprised to also get veg and gravy… not salad doesn't go too well with hot gravy and I only had about 6 chips, however I still ate it all up. Having said that would have preferred just more chips and no veg and gravy. Still a very nice spot to visit.

What a beautiful location! Although on the main road to Grasmere, if you sit in the beer garden you can admire the scenery and the mountains and possibly see birds of prey circling in the sky. Pretty flower baskets and tubs make this an attractive place to have a drink or eat. Car parking available. Beer well kept and welcoming on a hot day. Bit pricey though, but to be expected in that area. Toilets up steps and clean. Good place to stop if you're cycling.

Room was nice enough but was lacking in the details and finer touches. Couldn't plug the kettle in without having to turn it around the wrong way. Nowhere to store your toiletries in the bathroom or in the shower. The mattress wasn't very comfortable. For the price per night I'd expect the extra touches to have been thought about as they are competing with some really good hotels and b&bs in this price bracket. The food was good but I've had better for the price. I did enjoy my stay at the travellers rest but would probably try somewhere else in Grasmere next time.

Very nice hotel. Lovely old building but has good modern facilities. The manager gave a discount after a couple of minor problems with our room. The food we had on our first evening was delicious and of a high standard. Beautifully served and lovely and hot. Breakfast was good. The view from our room is stunning, shame about the main road. Too hot in our room but have turned down the radiators. Second nights meals did not disappoint either. Steak and kidney pudding was amazing as was melting chocolate pudding. Will come here again in the future and will definitely recommend to friends and family.

Lovely friendly staff thank you for making my birthday weekend special. We really enjoyed our stay in your warm cosy inn. Food was excellent and the breakfast was yummy! We will see you in the summer!

As pub grub goes this place is excellent. The only down side for me is the choice of Ales which could be better. I know this is a franchise pub but they could have a few guest ales from elsewhere. As for staying in the pub I can only speak from a couple of years ago the rooms are very small but clean the breakfast is adequate the service is good.

Great food today at the Traveller’s Inn restaurant in a beautifully cosy setting. The Pan Seared Lamb with crunchy vegetables and creamy mash was spot on. The lamb was beautifully pink also. We also had the Steak and Kidney Pudding with vegetables and chips, which again tasted perfectly tender and fresh, all whilst sat in front of a real wood fire. There was nobody else in the restaurant when we first came in at just after 2pm on a Saturday, with about 5 people coming in during our hour there so we got our food and drinks very fast. Staff were all very friendly too. Mains were £15 each and soft drinks just over £3 each for a pint size. We will defiantly be back and hope to stay in the hotel too as the rooms look great.
