The operation manager Shaun was so helpful with us even printing out a local church newsletter when we ask for directions. We didn't expected he go beyond his duty. Melissa who serve us in our dining was so cheerful and welcoming. We highly recommend this place good value for money and the food was great. The location is ideal for walks and. Beautiful mountain scenery and lakes.

Fantastic place to stay, I was staying there for a friends stag do. The hotel is so lovely and the staff are brilliant! Their was one person who made our stay even better and that was Adrian, putting up with us all and making me my cup of tea. We all had a brilliant time and will be back again soon. 👍👍

Just back from an amazing 2 days the hotel was lovely, staff were very friendly and professional and the food was amazing. Can't wait to return.

Very friendly staff, great views, very friendly atmosphere. Only one negative breakfast was not hot/slightly warm, wouldn’t put me off coming back.

Poor experience. Paid for a superior room but no hot water and shower did not work. Reported straight away but just got apology and excuse t that must be demand issue. Food poor watery soup and limp fish dish. Got bill reduced but just not good enough. Won't go back.

Lovely friendly staff but they are struggling like everywhere else with staff shortages.

Would not return! Been to this hotel a number of times and not had any problems the hotel is in a fabulous location but I’m not sure what’s happened… lack of staff meant our rooms weren’t ready until 8pm! When I finally got my keys I was given a key for a dirty room so had to take that back … One of our friends room was not ready until 9.30pm when we asked what the problem was we were told she was trying to find someone to clean the rooms! Next morning got up to get a shower but there was no hot water from the shower but had boiling water from the bath tap when I called to ask if someone could help I was told if she could find someone she will send them up! Nobody came … I went to make a coffee to find that the spoons were dirty they had been left there from the previous guest! Faulty Towers springs to mind would definitely not recommend.

Just back from a long weekend at Derwent water hotel. Absolutely loved it, even booked an extra night. Had the most amazing view from our room of the lake and the grounds. On first appearance it's was not the most appealing entrance but made up for it with the friendly welcoming atmosphere, great staff that go the extra mile to make you feel very welcome, the food was of good quality and we didn't eat anywhere else. Breakfast was fantastic, very good selection. Very clean and peaceful. Would highly recommend.

Most staff are lovely, the rest are very effciant but don't have any warmth & although good at job made me feel like I was a child at school doing what the teacher told me to. Sadly the hotel buliding is very run down. My bedroom sloped so when tried to open bedside draw a little it would open fully which was annoying as kept knocking arm on it. When walking to bed you went up hill in the room & the floor boards where very uneven & creaky which for elderly would be a potential falls risk. The towel rail fell of the wall when hung the hand towel on it. The shower is very hard to get correct temperature it was either scalding or freezing water. They gave us two milks for two people for the tea & coffee no sachet hot chocolate or biscuits in the room. The duvet cover was stained. The TV in the room is so small you need a magnifying glass to see it. There were buckets everywhere to catch the drips of water due to the rain. The seats in restraunt where badly thread baren & the food quite bland especialy the vegetables, the medium rare steak was very well done & certainly didn't warrent an allacart price tag. Breakfast is a buffet which is good but no fresh peices of fruit or tubs of yogurt. Also nothing continental… I love the conservatory couches though & yes that leaks in the rain too. The grounds are stunning & great to walk down to the waters edge. Hotel is in a nice quiet area & walking distance to Keswick town centre. Which is a deffinate plus.

Spent another great weekend at the Derwentwater 7th to 10th Feb. Staff great can, t do enough for you. Restaurant food excellent as the service is, great restaurant manager (Serge? ) who works very hard as do his staff who also takes time to chat.

The website showed a manor not the hotel. The bar staff were dreadful. The rooms hadn’t been cleaned and the toilets on one worked out of four with one having a vacuum cleaner hose down the toilet bowl.

The hotel is very basic and the rooms are very tired and in the need of updating. Paid extra for a deluxe room which was the same as the other rooms accept it looked over their beer garden. The food was dreadful. We had already paid for it otherwise after my soup which was water we would have gone somewhere else. Very disappointing. Will not be staying there again. Lovely place to stop for a drink in the beer garden, but that is all.

Nothing like the photos! Run down, tired, like something out of that 70s show! We spent no time in the apartment at all. Extremely disappointed, not a single good point unfortunately!

Nice location and room after a bit of complaining. Some rooms are very tired as is parts of the hotel. Overall good value is you pay under £200 for a two night stay with breakfast. 3* in my mind.

Myself and 2 friends stayed here last night. Gorgeous hotel and the room we stayed in was lovely. The food could have been a bit better though as my friend ordered the platter with a selection of cheese, it came with grated cheese! Asked where the selection was and it came back with a smaller pile of grated cheese and 2 other cheeses. Also was supposed to be a selection of ham, she got 2 slices of ham. Paninis could have been better Also! However, the breakfast… Gorgeous! Buffet breakfast and was beautiful! I would stay here again, just probably have food elsewhere.

Review of The Derwentwater Hotel My wife and I received this stay as an anniversary gift. We were looking forward to it and as soon as we pulled up at the hotel our excitement soon changed. We pulled up to what looked like a street of houses, nothing like the picture. After waiting for 20 minutes outside to book in we were extremely shocked by the rudeness of the staff. We were told to book our evening meal due to a large party coming later but it seemed more of a chore to her than anything. We proceeded to go to our room when we finally got there after waiting what seemed forever in the que for the lift we were shocked to find out door open. Not only open the locked was what looked like smashed, it did not work it looked like some one had went in with a crowbar. I looked around the room checked the lock which looked like it had been no nailed and refused o stay a moment longer. My ire and I went down to reception to ask to speak to the manager.
, we were told he would be a few minutes if we would wait in the bar. 10 minutes past then 20 so I went to see where he was and was told would be another few minutes, another 10 minutes past and I started to get agitated so I went again to look for him. My wife was also getting agitated as it was wasting time on our anniversary break. I then bumped into a hot, sweaty assistant manager who was quite rude to myself and said, I will be with you when I can I cannot leave these women can I?

Stayed for 2 nights. Never stayed at this hotel oreviously. Room was said to be premium but in our opinion it was very standard. We slept extremely well as the hotel was beautifully quiet all night. We had dinner in the restaurant on both evenings and wished we hadn't. The food was acceptable but on the second night the head waiter announced that he could not put our wine on the room bill as our card (given to us by the receptionist and signed) was not authorised. He made quite a fuss about this when I said that we had used it the previous evening. Fellow diners were all listening to this so it was quite embarrassing. Then the waiter brought the wrong main course for my husband who said it was ok he would have it anyway. Half way through eating this meal the head waiter came wit the correct one and quite rudely whisked away with it into the kitchen. We waited a very very long time for our desserts, so much so that people on the next table said they hoped we weren't still sitting there at breakfast time! When my dessert came (brought by our head waiter) it looked as though the cream had been deliberely squashed down. The rest of the staff were lovely and the cooked items at breakfast were extremely good. Perhaps we were unfortunate and the head waiter (don't know his name) was in a bad mood. However it is unlikely we will stay there again and we do visit The Lakes frequently. Never had to complain before.
