I’ve stayed here several times for work, it’s Just like been in an old people home, angry residents who are on bus trips. And the swimming pool is still not open hasn’t been since year,,,,

Warm and welcoming on a Sunday night. Although they had stopped serving food they nonetheless made me a sandwich and a huge glass of red wine.

Rooms lovely and fresh staff very helpful. And good central location would not hesitate to recommend.

Stayed here at Christmas for couple nights, staff were excellent and so friendly, food was amazing and great they allow dogs into the hotel… will defo be back 🙂

One night stay, great customer service at reception, restaurant for dinner, and in the breakfast room. The hotel has lovely features from the time it was built and it’s location for the historic quarter is perfect for the museum and the castle. Right next door to the cathedral too so you hear the bells, delightful. Very quiet at night, I stayed in the winter on a Friday. If I revisited Carlisle I would stay here again.

An excellent and extremely central hotel. We stayed during partial restrictions, so enjoyed room service for dinner and breakfast the following day. Both meals were well cooked and delicious. Although we were here for work, we had to bring our dog as we had nobody to look after him, the hotel allow dogs at no extra charge. We were also allowed a late check out for a nominal fee. The room was large and comfortable. We would highly recommend this hotel.

The food was delicious the service was excellent.
There was only 2 of us, it was such great fun with a lovely atmosphere.

Just returned from my annual pre xmas visit to The Crown and Mitre. The room was lovely and the staff are just excellent, very friendly and great Cumbrian hospitality. The evening meal was excellent, as was the service. The pool was warm and so was the jacuzzi. Breakfast was lovely, really tasty and nice quality. Centre of town so brilliant for me with walking difficulties. My friends 1st visit and he too was impressed.

Spent a fantastic wk. End af the Crown & Mitre hotel for a Line Dance event. Hotel staff very attentive and helpful. The food and service were great, staff worked so hard and always cheery. The ballroom was excellent, hall done up beautifully. Plenty of room to dance. The hotel is in a great location. Loads of shops and cafes & bars right on the doorstep.

Just great! Historic building, gorgeous inside. Rooms were modern and clean. Bathrooms were great. Loved the place.

Stayed the night very obliging reception needed to check in early as going to a funeral and had traveled from Birmingham and room was ready for us very clean and quiet lovely friendly staff and breakfast was amazing.

Staff very welcoming. Rooms clean and tidy. Food was tasty. Enjoyed using the pool facilities.

We were here for a big bike ride. 6 people. 6 bikes. Two boxes of luggage. All looked after by fab staff. Couldn’t be more helpful. Oh, and the beer in the Mitre Bar hits the spot too.

Please do not be fooled by the reviews posted here, most of which must have been posted by people getting the wrong hotel or by staff posing as clients. Yes the staff are pleasant but all our tables were given a bottle of red n white wine because of the poor food last night. My carer and I weren't catered for… there was no suitable twin rooms on Fri night so had to be separated! Which was highly unsatisfactory for us obviously! The hotel isn't very accessible for disabled… people. If you rely on a mobility scooter to get around this isn't the hotel for you. The ramp is an old one with a lip at each end not easy to get onto. I had to leave the scooter in reception overnight as the lift wasn't wide enough to take it up to my room. I had to pick up the scooter in the morning after breakfast n take it out the front door round and down a very uneven path to the hotel car park gates to get to the ballroom where our classes were. I had to get out the scooter n try to walk down the 6 steps while my carer took it down the ramp… difficult to do. On the good side every time I had to trundle my scooter round from the front to the back car park the staff were right there to let me in. I'm afraid to say if you're mobility challenged think twice before booking!

I had a mixed experience here. Tom was very helpful and cheerful at booking the hotel but then Sue was very miserable when we came to check in after our walk. The location of this hotel was absolutely brilliant, right in the heart of Carlisle city and we had free on-site parking. The rest of the hotel and it’s facilities were nice too. Unfortunately, we were put into another building which was at the rear of the hotel, which was unexpected — the room was OK but small and overpriced for what we paid.

Nice and central hotel. We did not have a chance to see the swimming pool but it is a plus and included use with the rate. It has a car park but it gets full very easily.

Old style hotel with class. Good prices but limited car parking available. Superb location right in the centre of Carlisle. Beds were comfortable but a bit to soft for my liking.

The staff ARE mostly pleasant and helpful, but the hotel is very tired and the restaurant is very poorly run and our food was cold, when it turned up. The restaurant “supervisor” spent the whole night apologising to almost every table for different reasons. There is a distinct lack of staff training, so although they are nic…e people, they aren’t terribly professional. In the morning, we asked for our car to be moved out of the car park but had a small wait while the manger dealt with a customer complaint. Too many people complaining for it too be a coincidence!

Good Central location in Carlisle and with its own car park (free to guests) makes for an easy city centre arrival. Room was small and view out of window blocked by scaffolding, but bed was comfy and tea/coffee supplied in room. Bathroom had mould on sealant behind taps on bath/shower but otherwise was clean and functional. Didn't eat there or use the bar but both are options. The offer of a glass of wine on arrival at reception is unique in our experience. I wonder if they offer it if you arrive before midday?

Great location, bang in the centre of the city, great for tourists. The hotel, in parts, is a little dated. We stayed in the annex at the back of the hotel — the rooms were reasonably comfortable but there's a lot of noise from closing doors.

Beautiful old hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. Swimming pool was marvelous. All the common places were very well done. Unfortunately not the same care has need given to the individual rooms. Chairs were dirty and threadbare as were curtains. The bed should have been replaced ages ago. I must say the bathroom was nice but once again some items were neglected. My impression is that they put their effort and money into events such as weddings and conferences. With all that being said, we would stay again but maybe ask for a different room. It is in a great location right on the market square.

Don't expect quick food. This is the most delightful place to eat in comfort and relax from the hussle. Comfortable seating and good food make this a great lunch stop.

A building the likes of which will never be built again. Decorated and furnished to a high standard throughout. Friendly staff in all departments. A good homely bar also. Breakfast was a top quality hot and cold buffet expertly run by a humorous Scot who clearly loved his job. All at a very good price.

It is a grand hotel and the room was very comfortable. However I was woken up between 5-6am by a lot of noise beyond my room. It continued until I left at 9.30am and sounded like large items being moved about, heavy footsteps and radio. It spoilt my stay. I mentioned at reception and got a blank look.

Lovely hotel part of the Peel Hotel group. Hosted US President Wilson back in the day. If you are looking for an ultra modern hotel then not for you… but the food is fantastic and the rooms are big plenty of old world features. I really liked it and smack bang in the middle of Carlisle.

Only stayed one night for a quick stop over but it was a beautiful hotel in a central location. Has a nice bar and a pool with parking around the back.

Parking at the rear of the hotel, is a major plus for a city centre hotel. The staff were all friendly, efficient and very helpful. The room was clean and fresh. Walk in shower always a bonus. The food here, both evening meal and the breakfast were top class. Didn’t take advantage of the swimming pool. Maybe next time.

Historic hotel. If not staying, you can still go in for a coffee or drink. Lunchtime meal. Often hold theme nights such as murder mystery. Can set up beautifully for weddings, proms, graduations. Very near the cathedral. Good town centre location. Other restaurants close by. Friendly, professional staff.

Great location within easy reach of city centre and all its amenities. Swimming pool very small. Bar disappointing when beer ran out twice in the same evening and replacement on offer was not the best choice. Food in buffet and breakfast good. Free car parking in city centre is a bonus. Hotel within easy reach and walk of station, castle, shops, bars and restaurants. Would recommend.

Enjoyed our one night stay. Comfortable and clean maybe ready for a face lift here and there. Free city centre car park a plus, not sure what they would do for a very large party as there are only about 15 spaces. Buffet food at the party we were attending was good so too was breakfast. Swimming pool is small, ok for a quick dip but not if you are looking to do any serious swimming. Disappointing bar! Had to wait nearly 15 mins to be served, beer served from the new barrel was cloudy and yeasty, probably still fermenting and definitely not ready to drink. This was changed for a different beer which was ok but not Real Ale which is what we really wanted. Later in the evening, this barrel went off which was disappointing. I suspect the hotel is busy on a regular basis so why did the bar manager not plan the beer barrels better? Carlisle is a great city to visit and The Crown and Mitre is slap bang in the middle of the city, great for sightseeing, close to the train station and numerous bars and restaurants.

Really enjoyed my stay here. The hotel is much nicer than the major hotel chains and has an antiquated feel to it. I didn't have an evening meal but the breakfast was very nice with a wide selection.

Our bedroom was is the annexe as we booked late for the Christmas Dinner Dance. We were with another couple, their bedroom was much bigger than ours (our washbasin was next to the bed), full bathroom, but next to the lift shaft. It was extremely noisy and not the best room to be in. We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay, clean, although rooms were cold, and food excellent. The hotel is centrally situated and perfect for shopping etc. Will definitely stay again, but make an earlier booking for a better room.

Great location. Friendly staff. Some rooms in need of updating. Room service food disappointing. Bathroom size vary in rooms some very small but for a one night stay ok. Parking can be mayhem at busy times.

Food great, rooms great, such a fabulous ballroom. Although the Hotel is still in the middle of upgrading everything was running smoothly. Really nice place to stay, staff could not do enough for us. Very clean room, bed was comfy and bathroom was just right. Great place to use as a base!

Booked this at last minute was not disappointed! Lovely as you walk in, bar was cheap! And beds was so comfortable I was asleep as soon as I got the pillow.

Beautiful Edwardian hotel… had a lovely stay, right in the heart of Carlisle. All staff were pleasant and friendly and the manager, Mr Crossly couldn't do enough for us. Definately looking forward to a return visit.

The central location, splendid 'old' style building complete with parking made for a wonderful stay. But the best thing is the staff (all). From reception checkin thru to checkout they were outstanding. Would stay again and recommend to others. Very dog friendly as well.

Warm and friendly welcome by staff and offered a free glass of wine following check in. Staff offered to take bags to room. Room was clean and tidy. Hairdryer and iron and ironing board were available within room. Lovely large fluffy towels and plenty of pillows on bed. Two options for evening dining with a restaurant or a bar menu. Ate in restaurant and the food and service was wonderful. Buffet breakfast available next morning with many options available. All in all would be happy to stay again.

Amazing customer service and great staff. Needed a phone adapter and they did everything to make sure I had one. Five star service and also a nice pool and lounge/bar areas.

Not a very nice welcome when we arrived at reception, room was very nice with comfortable bed and lovely bedding, evening meal was fine but breakfast was very disappointing, cannot believe that a that this hotel still has self service, think all the food had been on the hot plate for some time as the eggs and most of the food were well past serving, such a waste of good food surely it must be more economic to serve to order, we stayed in a Peel hotel in Bradford where the staff were all very friendly and the breakfast was cooked to order so come on The Crown & Mitre you have a lovely hotel, cheer up and also cook a fresh breakfast.

Called into the Crown and Mitre Hotel for a pot of tea and mince pies after my doing my Christmas shopping. Very fast efficient service and friendly staff and atmosphere. The mince pies were lovely, although they would have been even nicer warm. The pot of cream that came with the mince pies was huge, half the amount would have been ample and there would have been less waste. Maybe smaller pots should be used for the cream. Will be calling in again next time I'm in Carlisle shopping.

Went here for an evening meal the food was enjoyable and the service was great I would highly recommended eating here.

Stayed 2 nights with a coach party. The waiters in the restaurant were quite young and obviously learning their trade. Their supervisor was very helpful and knew how to treat a coachful of ladies (and 2 men). It was a delight to watch him instruct the young waiters, quietly but in a way that they knew what to do. This is a lovely hotel, clean and extremely well located in the centre of the town. The only down side I would comment on is the size of the lift when accommodating a coach party — a bit on the small size. However, don't let this deter anyone from going there. Looking forward to going there again someday.

Stayed here twice now on what seems to have turned out to be an annual Christmas shopping and nights out weekend. The hotel is clean and tidy, the food and bar are good.

The wedding fair in the ballroom was fabulous. Well organised and everything ran smoothly.

I visited to donate blood at one of the blood donors sessions. Whilst there the NHS staff needed help from the hotel staff and they were very attentive.

The hotel is a very nice place and the food is great… however there is a problem with the staff… I have had to call the police and resolve the situation on one occasion and I'm not happy at all but I guess not everyone is perfect.

The room itself was ok, the bathroom however was in dire need of a good clean and possibly a refit/replacement of some sort. A false alarm fire alarm was activated three times and it wasn't made clear immediately that that was what it was, neither was an apology offered for the inconvenience of being woken up at 4:30am.

Stayed many times before right in the centre of town. Reception staff 100% helpful and a very good section for breakfast. Rooms clean and tidy. Staying again 2016.

Room was dirty, bathroom was that bad my girlfriend refused to shower.

A warm welcome but stains on the bed spread, cushions and chairs in the room really put me off.

It started awfully, poor welcome, and even worse reception from the bar supervisor. Couldn't have felt less welcome our more of an inconvenience. Then came Kostas. Breathe of fresh air, happy and happy to work. This is what I would expect from a supervisor.

Great hotel nice room’s great stay apart from when we were leaving after our WEDDING night I had several rooms booked including other guests from the party amounting to a lot of money We spent lots of money in the outside restaurant known as the square and more. When we came to check out the manager accused us of stealing a curtain from one of the rooms After they searched our bags the manager still would not let it go. So eventually WE called the police as we felt harassed by the manager The police cam we told him the story, he was more than satisfied that we did not steal one curtain he spoke to the manager and told him to let it go, after all that we were free to go no charge for the curtain. We all had to leave the premises ASAP there were several couples eating and drinking in the restaurant out side so we all vacated. A GREAT NIGHT RUIND BY ONE STUBBORN CROWN AND MITER HOTEL MANAGER Overall thoughts disgusted in the way the manager handled the whole situation was not professional at all.

My wife and I stayed for one night had a room on the front, the room was excellent nice and warm and clean, food was good hotel staff very helpful and friendly no problems with car parking so will be going back to stay at the Crown and Mitre.

Many rooms leave much to be desired.

Nice stay, house keeping could be better, pity we were put out the back in an annexe, not told? car park not good.
