What can I really say about the Jupiter but that I expected so much more. Flew into town for a wedding with a date and was treated very well by the staff (the only reason for the 2 stars otherwise it would be just one) but the remainder of the experience was significantly lackluster. The rooms are the definition of basic and you will need to ask the front desk for much what would be standard at other locations (Ironing board, etc. ). While I expected a slightly weird vibe to the place, it is Portland after all, the mannequin in lingerie at check-in and the condom on the bedside table greeting us when we walked into the room was not expected at all and, frankly, was off-putting enough to consider checking out and staying somewhere else for the remainder of my 4-night PDX stay. Had I know this before booking I certainly would have chosen someplace else. But we gave it a chance… Parts of the room were poorly finished (electrical sockets, door hooks, etc. ) and other parts of the room required repair before use. As for the noise level… My personal assessment is that more was spent on appearances and hipsterness of the rooms rather than the comfort level as the sound-insulation was probably the same from before any renovation (i. E. Paper thin). Expect to be a part of conversations next door and the roar from the adjacent Doug Fir bar to fill your room. To drown out the noise you’ll need to flip-on your in-room AC unit or pray for rain. And beware of the parking charges. I was given a key to the garage and charged for its use ($10/day) despite never having actually used it. The staff happily reversed the charges, however, once I pointed this out. In the end if you’re in your 20’s and dig a loud hipster-like scene staying up to 3 a. M. Then this place is probably for you but if you’re in or past your 30’s, prefer a little more sleep and a few more basic comforts and refinement I would suggest looking elsewhere for the nominal difference in price it will cost. Seriously.
