Not recomendable at all… people in there are not qualified. Because of COVID, I wanted to change my reservation dates, so I called to front desk and they “changed”, and then I received an email where told me that I loose my reservation. When I send an email to ask for help, the “reservations specialist” answer with prepotency and in a really bad way. She just said “she is the one that really knows and is capable to do the work”.

By allowing room cancellation free of charge if the US government doesn't let you enter due to the crisis. Therefore not recommended in the least.

Love it just right for you and your family.

The owner/manager is a crook. We rented part of his dinning area for 3 hours at $150 an hour. When we got the cc statement he had charged us for 6 hours. When confronted about the cc charge he claimed that it was agreed on with a signed contract. So I asked to see the contract which he never produced. Also charged anther employee $20.00 to reprogram her key to get in her room. I checked out and will NEVER stay there again.
Consumers beware.

Nice place at downtown Houston. Toyota Center is like 200 meters away (great for concert trips. ) Rooms are clean and come complete with stove, refrigerator, and coffee brewer. It has a small gym as well. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Great places to dine in are near by at a walking distance. I was pleased for my one night visit.

Very comfortable rooms, with a kitchen that even has a oven and stove. Also it's within walking distance from Main St. From which you can explore all of Houston with the METROrail. Very worth the price!

I spent 8 days at the Athens and was treated very well by the staff. They were very friendly and helpful. My room was clean and comfortable, and I had a very enjoyable stay at the Athens. It is not as fancy as most hotels, but it was certainly adequate for my needs, and quite affordable. If I need to stay in downtown Houston again, I would return to the Athens.

Friendly welcome, the manager used Google Translate to explain the operation of the hotel. Room 211 Spacious and quiet, clean with all the toiletries. $105, 200m from Main Street, it's nickel. Correct breakfast included (booked by Booking). Anyway, no complaints!

I was not expecting much for the price, but I was pleasantly surprised! The staff was friendly and made sure to greet us whenever they saw us. It's not a fancy hotel but it had a very warm feel to it. The location is great for any event you're going to in downtown Houston. We will definitely be staying there the next time we need a place to stay in Houston!

We're had a wonderful stay at this small boutique hotel. The staff were wonderful and extremely accommodating to our family that was staying for a week. All of the rooms are on the second floor and there is no elevator. This didn't bother us, but be aware of this before making reservations. This place fills up quick before events, because it is so close to everything. Since they have such great service and prices, you need to call early if you want to stay here.

My reservation was cancelled because of over booking by the hotel. It has been 11 days since the cancellation and I still don’t have my refund. I have called the hotel twice and have been told they would get back to me. If they are able to charge my card the same day as the reservation they should be refunding the same day as the cancellation! This hotel is not even worth a single star. Poor customer service. Don’t stay here!

Not a great place to stay for the price. Folks was smoking weed daily on patio and nothing was done about it I had to ask other guests not to smoke outside my window cause of gaps between the frame of air conditioning allowed the smoke to enter my room. I asked front desk manager to handle it but she said she didn't have the authority to do so. My wife was bitten by some form of insect twice and was sick most of the stay. The building is historic and is in need of major repairs. My new truck was hit in the hotel parking which is one block away and couldn't get the owner to view video to see who had done it. Constant staff turn over, and he hires the homeless to do house keeping. He has had experienced folks but they didn't stay long. The owner is a great guy but needs to hire professional staff and update this building. Some of the review are from the owner and employees check out the names of one reviewer that just change the first name with the same last name that worked the front office with five stars on both reviews and her ex boyfriend too, nice!

The Hotel is nice & clean It was quite. It's an easy walk to many Downtown destinations. Watch out for your car outside. The parking isn't free except to guest they have a place to park one spot per room. No parking lot attendant. My Dad's car was Stolen not towed stolen! They did offer a free nights stay if they had to stay additional days. I don't look at it like a hotel failure. I look at it as a people/city failure.

Don't judge this book by its cover! Very unique, very helpful staff. You are not just a dollar sign here. Not perfect, but no where is!

It's a great place to be for a night out. It's an art gallery, dance bar, and live music joint all in one. Dress seems to be Sunday best, for when I went with a sweater, beanie, and jeans with sneakers I felt underdressed. My friends and I went to the grand opening to check it out and it pops off real well. Only thing to keep in mind is cover charge was 25 each that night. It might change over time, but when you go come prepared with a some money to blow.

I have been to the Athens hotel and suites with my girlfriend quite a few times. Every time we have been there the staff is extremely nice and professional and they have made us feel very welcome. Thus last time we were there a Mr. John checked us in made sure we had a quiet room and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great hotel experience in Houston.

Nasty! Garbage! Rude! WASTE OF MONEY. You pay to park. Small ran down rooms. Do yourself a favor! Pay the little extra at another hotel. Not to mention the old stairs you have to carry all your belongings up. Just all around low quality for the buck. Half finished or just poor craftsmanship for the new construction outside. Looks like some volunteers did the construction work. Sad. Houston the city should shut this place down. I thought it was a homeless shelter for yrs. Until I was forced to stay without a refund. You can tell who works here or who’s friends to this felon. They all write good reviews for the homeless shelter or the ATHENS hotel.

The location of the place and price were perfect for the marathon! Staff was courteous and friendly. Only issue I had was the room was a bit over clean. The smell of way of shampooed carpet was a little tough, but nothing major. I will stay there again next year!

The place was cheap, simple and easy to get to. It allows to walk through the center of the city by the same proximity that it has. However, we were never cleaned in the room. We didn't take clean towels either, we had to go for them. The people were kind and solved all your doubts. The gym was very small, only had three appliances and only two of them served. There was parking but it was not included, you had to pay aside. Plus the parking lot was away from the hotel. The staff at the hotel spoke Spanish and English. The rooms in the hotel were comfortable, but the carpet looked dirty. The bathroom door did not lock well and the kitchen scrubber olia ugly. The room had internet and cable services included.

Terrible, terrible place full of bed bugs. The owner/manager is a convicted felon and well-known crook. The bad reviews are real. The good ones are those who were lucky, and many by staff. Stay. Away.

It was very comfortable and he rates are very reasonable. Mr. John is a very smart man who I respect and knows how to run a business. Thank you I will come back!

The Staff is wonderful and very nice. My room was very clean and I was very happy with my stay. It is near the Toyota center so it was convenient for me to stay here. I give it 5 stars. I love this Hotel and will be coming back again!

The place is good if you are desperate in needing a place to stay. Mrs. Lyan is really nice. However, the clean up crew many times don’t complete a job when they do something. Of course, when I am here on weekends, they do a complete job well done. However, when we are gone, they either don’t clean our room OR they do an incomplete job.

The hotel staff is super friendly. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Location is perfect, walking distance to the stadium and the House of Blues. Would definitely recommend staying here.

I needed a place to stay that was close to the passport agency downtown. As it turns out. This place is literally walking distance to many places downtown. The rates are better and the staff was extremely friendly. I highly recommend this hidden gem. I will definitely be going back to this place.!

This place is run by some wonderful people. We had to have a late check-in they stayed and waited for us. The rooms are clean the staff is friendly nice room had a kitchen with a full-size stove microwave real dishes. It was just like coming into a condo. Will definitely go back.

This hotel has great value. The quality of the room, friendliness of the staff, and location are on par, if not better, with other hotels for a price that is very reasonable. As voiced in other reviews the Wi-Fi was challenging at times and the breakfast did no have great variety. If you are looking for a place to stay in downtown Houston you should consider the Athens Hotel.

Rooms are great and the staff are all great people. Every room is setup with a Roku and satalite. Roku was already setup in my room. It was great to have since FPSF got rained out… Windows open for fresh air and there is a patio. My only critique would be the showers. They do not get hot. The best you can hope for is mildly cold. An upgrade might be needed especially if the downstairs is renovated. Thanks guys. Y'all were great.

Why are people complaining about the price? Like it's literally 2 blocks away from the Toyota center. And people should be grateful that they even have Wi-Fi in the first place, because even in a 5-star the Wi-Fi isn't necessarily stable either. The kitchen is awesome, and staff are all helpful. I had an enjoyable stay.

Stayed for a show at the house of blues. Car battery died but the staff was far too busy to help 3 stranded women that just stayed there. We had the cables already and only asked for 2 min of their time. Great location, disappointing people.

Stayed here one night while visiting Houston for a show at the House of Blues and found it a very enjoyable experience. The price was the cheapest around and it was very convenient to find it within a very short walking distance of the venue we were going to that night. The staff was slightly hard to understand, but they were very friendly. When we arrived it had almost seemed they had lost our reservation, but the error was quickly and easily solved. They were very helpful in getting us settled in and explained the parking situation fairly clearly. They own no parking of their own and parking in the paid lot near the hotel is costly and inconvenient, but they kindly offered a single parking spot in their alley behind a locked gate for $20. The hotel itself was clean and properly accommodating. It showed the wear and tear of an older establishment, but I was pleased with my room. I did have trouble getting an outlet in the kitchen to work and had to move my coffee make elsewhere. Overall I would recommended this hotel for any short stay in downtown Houston 100% of the time thanks to price and location.

Rooms are decent but a little cramped. The addition of a kitchen is nice due to the market within walking distance. Breakfast was a little lacking but it is what it is. Overall the room is decent for the price.

If these guys ripped you off too, contact the Houston district attorneys fraud division and complain. Even if they can't bring criminal charges against them, or if it isn't worth a lawsuit, it will put the company on the law's radar! DON'T PARK YOUR CAR HERE. They got our car towed, agreed to reimburse, then backed out as soon as I left town. We stayed for one night and paid for parking. We were directed to a spot by the maintenance man, who held the keys to let other cars out in the morning. The next morning the car was gone. Totally gone. The man who had the keys had no recollection of moving it, and had clearly been drinking. Upon closer inspection of security footage, we found that the car was moved, parked in front of a bus stop, then towed. The representative from the hotel promised a refund of the room, as well as reimbursing the tow fee ($218) in the form of a refund, all of which are stated in my final folio of charges. The owner of the establishment pulled the plug on the reimbursement of the tow fee and the room refund. He has refused to communicate with me directly, nor has the hotel offered any explanation as to why their employee moved our car, allowed it to be towed, then forgot. The most insulting, however, is the assurance by the owner and management that these actions are somehow not the hotel's responsibility or problem.

There were staffing problems while I was there. Rooms are great for the price. Prepare to strain your sense of adventure. Good value. Gotta be down for a little grunge.

It's an OK hotel. It's affordable despite being downtown. When I booked my room, it took them forever to try to find my reservation I made online. So I finally got my room cars key and go to room and what did I see? A hot mess! The room was still dirty and atrocious from the previous person who stayed. I told them about it and they apologized and cleaned it immediately. This hotel is pretty decent they just need to work on professionalism and getting things done more accurately.

This place charged us when we didn't even finish booking! My husband gave them his card info, while he did that he read everyone's horrible experiences and told the guy nevermind and to cancel! He didn't get any type of confirmation or some kind of statement to his email or my email, nothing. They are money hungry! I reported them to the BBB everyone needs to do the same and shut this so called business down! I also reported them to the fraud department. I called and spoke with a Steven and a john, who both hung up on my husband and were both extremely rude! They don't care about us so I don't care about them! You are both in the wrong business! You need to work where you don't deal with people/customers! Ridiculous!

Horrible customer service. Took out 100 deposite and didn't have a record of it. Over charging for multiple suites. No parking available according to money hungry manager. Misunderstands proper English and decides to yell at paying customers. I do not recommend this place to any one! Wish I could put 0 starts!

First problem we came to check in the receptionist was cussing up a storm at the customers. I should have ran after that. Second problem when we got to our room there were gnats everywhere I killed about 10 myself not to mention the ones my fiancé killed. Third the sheets and towels bad stains on them. Fourth as we were going to check out. There was no one to be found. We waited about 10 minutes before someone came in from smoking. This was after I rang the bell countless times. The customers checking out in front of us had a issue with their bill the owner was very very rude. The only reason we stayed at that hotel was because of the close proximity to the Toyota center and my fiancé being 6 months pregnant I didn't want her to have to walk to far for the concert we were attending. Save your money! Go elsewhere. Spend a little extra for something nicer.

My girlfriend treated me to an early birthday present with tickets to a show at the House of Blues this evening. She booked a room at Athens Hotel Suites for the location in proximity to the venue, as well as the price (about half of what other hotels in the area are charging). I commend her for there thoughtfulness, but this "hotel" is awful. First, we parked next door to check in and unload our car, which was fine enough. I made a phone call and then walked into the "lobby". The clerk was eating cereal and watching tv. After he stumbled (I use this term as a compliment) through the unintelligable check-in speech, he asked her to sign and click ok 4 (or 5, or 6) times acknowledging the terms of our stay. She clicked ok on one prompt that stated a "$20 fee" for lost room keys, despite the fact that all computer typed "notices" stated a $25 fee. RED FLAG! When asked about parking, the clerk informed us of a $15 parking lot with spots reserved for guests of the hotel. After a 5 minute explanation (and hand drawn "map") of the route needed to reach the lot, we paid the fee. The clerk stated that other lots were "ridiculously overpriced" and this would be a safe spot to park. When we FINALLY arrived at the lot, which was at least twice as far from the hotel as a lot that was CHEAPER (and closer to the venue and hotel), there were rose of trash bags in front of each and every spot "reserved" for customers.

DO NOT STAY HERE! Do not even attempt to book because they will not reimburse you if you try to cancel. Actually they do not even allow you to cancel, even if an emergency comes up and you will no longer be staying at the hotel. So I was charged and did not even stay here! However after reading all of the reviews I would not have stayed here regardless. The staff is not helpful at all and are very hard to get in touch with and return your calls. I would put ZERO stars if it allowed me to.

Avoid Hotel! The worst hotel to deal with! They will give you the run around. Called to book female stated that they do not have a cancelation policy, I booked and she said I would be getting a confirmation email. I called back the next day bc I never got the confirmation email, manager stated he would have to call me back in 20 minutes computers were down and he wasn't sure if I had reservations! Never received a phone call back from manager! Called the next day to cancel all reservations (if I even had any) they gave me the run around for 3 days. Finally I called back the following week and demanded that I get help to cancel my reservations. Female stated that there is a cancelation policy and the lady who handles it is busy with everyone canceling. I told her that when I called there was no cancelation policy. She said I would have to speak to the manager. I asked her to connect me. She said he would give me a call back, after taking my name and number. While waiting for the manager to call me back I checked my bank account they had taken money out my account and will not refund it back. I'm having to fight with them for my money back when I have no proof that I was even staying at this hotel since I had no confirmation number! Please avoid this hotel! Save yourself time and money.

My type of place. The staff was not over the top "fake-friendly", just took care of business. The room was very pleasant, quiet and very comfortable. This would be perfect for an extended stay, fridge, microwave, stove, and sink in the room, for a good price. Good experience.

It could be better. Staff is very unprofessional and when they gave me key to the room I opened and it wasnt ckean from the previous person staying there so I had to wait in lobby until they cleaned it. Other than that its pretty ok. If you want something cheap for one person and want to be downtown then go here.

I had booked this hotel months in advance for my trip to Houston, but after reading the bad reviews of how they'll charge people twice or lose a reservation, I cancelled my reservation a little over a week before the date. Well, come to find out, they charged me TWICE for staying there even though I didn't even freakin stay there! I had even cancelled way before the penalty charges could happen! It's kinda funny and ironic how I had cancelled my reservations to avoid these crooks yet they still charged me TWICE anyways! DO NOT BOOK A HOTEL WITH THEM. They really are the crooks other people stated them to be.

DO NOT STAY HERE;! these guys are scam artist. I paid and booked by travelocity when I checked in I was required to put a credit card I used a different card and I was charged 3 different charges different days $1, 1000 WTF it took me 8 days to dispute with my bank. I was given the run around for days by the "owner/manager/ trashy place smelly not worth a penny. Worst experience ever. Around the corner is the Hilton I will sure book there next time.

They do have clean rooms, however, at least in my room, every single piece of furniture had a book or something under one of the legs. At least it was easy to find the phone book. The staff is what happens when you take the hospitality out of a hotel. The two front desk clerks were unable to check me in, and had no problem telling me whose fault it was that my reservation was messed up. His name is John. My clean room was uncomfortably warm all night. There is no thermostat in the room, so nothing could be done about it. The "Continental Breakfast" is a container of cereal and an empty coffee pot in the lobby. Don't come hungry. Oh, and a warning. Not only do they not give late checkouts, but if you somehow manage to check out late anyway, their "system" automatically charges you for another night, and there's nothing you can do about it. But, the room was clean. If that's the ONLY thing you want, stay here.

We called the night before and tried to reserve at 6pm. Person On other end said the guy who knows how to reserve went to dinner with his wife and would be back at 9pm. We tried calling several times the next day and only a busy signal. There were two people behind the counter trying to book us a room and after about 15 minutes they had to call the owner who I'm assuming is their father to come and give us a hotel room. Google says hotel is $64 but they were going to charge us $116 until we mentioned the pricing difference. Had a friend bring me here and they kept charging me for them even though I said they weren't staying with me. Room is okay, has a kitchenette. Kind of weird the entire family from Greece is always in the lobby talking and stares at you if you go in and out of the hotel. But in down town Houston you're hard pressed to get a better place for under 150.

Walking in looks like the rockford files and you wonder "hmm is this an honest place? " but upstairs in the room its clean, comodious, quaint, with a clean outfitted kitchenette — and for 80 bucks! close to everything — — great bargain for simple tastes.

I LOVE this place! Been here on an extended stay and it's perfect for me. The price is great, it's pet friendly (which my bird loves! ) and has a convenient breakfast (but you'll have to heat it yourself if you want it hot). Rooms include kitchenettes with a small set of cook/bakeware. The views on Clay street are beautiful. All rooms are upstairs, but no elevator needed if you're able-bodied. The spot couldn't be better either, because it's close to just about everything. And the staff has been very helpful when I've needed them. I would definitely recommend Athens to anyone looking for a downtown gem.
