Great bar staff! Very accommodating!

I went here yesterday and brought with me 10 or so friends. We sat at the bar and the service was incredibly poor/slow as they preferred to only provide decent service to the much larger group that was at the bar. Waited 15-20 mins per drink. They didn’t even immediately take our cards or keep tracks of our tabs so closing out was incredibly slow/difficult. I had my camera with me and took a few photos of our friends (this is after we have all spent hundreds of dollars on mediocre cocktails and waiting on beer mins you) near the bar. Someone from the front desk came over to me and tells me it’s $350 to take photos in the hotel. Mind you this is not in any way a professional event/shoot, we were simply hanging out and drinking at the bar and at this point were the only customers there. Lights flickered the whole time, customer service was awful — Don’t waste your time on staying here or dining/drinking here. This hotel and bar has gone down hill significantly.

Really enjoyed our stay… A good hotel to get away from responsibilities and just enjoy being with your significant other… All room and bar services were closed due to COVID-19. But other than that it was a nice hotel.

Historic and Elegant Hotel, Downtown Houston. Staff is wonderful, super friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious. Very lovely, I truly enjoyed my stay!

Everyone is so nice! The rooms are so unique and the entire property is clean clean clean! This is hands down one of my most favorite properties in Houston!

My first experience to the hotel was for the StartUp Art Fair — My boyfriend and I attempted to catch the elevator, however after waiting an extremely long time, we were told only one elevator was working so we decided to take the stairs. We walked up to the upper level floors and once we got to the 2nd floor, the elevator opened and we got on, not realizing we were going back down again. Not a big deal — we just decided, atleast we were on after it taking forever to pick us up. We ride the elevator back down and upon picking up a few of the additional older startup art up fair attendendees they glared at us. Once we arrived to the 3rd Floor (where the installation was being held) the other visitors on the elevator seemed surprised that my boyfriend and I were getting off on the same floor. We ignored their startled looks and continued off to the exhibit. Once we step out we notice — there is no music on, some artists doors were closed, and some artists were not even there at the event (even thoughwe arrived after 12). Despite this we continue to the rooms, but after visiting the 3rd one, we are approached by security and asked "did yall come from the lower level" which we replied yes (where else would we come from? ) and she says do you all have wristbands, yes, which we showed her and she continues walking through the floor.

We stayed at Hotel Icon for my 40th birthday. It was our first visit to this property and we loved it… beautiful hotel, loved our room, gorgeous views. However, my husband's backpack and personal belongings (as well as a few valuables) were stolen from our hotel room while we were out for dinner. We had to call the front desk four different times to get someone to take us seriously. There was no sense of urgency and the staff went so far as to blame us ("are you sure you brought it in? "). When we were finally able to speak with someone in person, they were very dismissive and basically told us there was nothing they could do other than review the lobby cameras and call us the next day. We're still waiting for a call. We were never given the opportunity to speak with the GM and the staff responded with a complete lack of concern or care. I understand they're just trying to "protect their brand", but in this situation, a little bit of good customer service would have gone a LONG way. (We ended up waiting at the hotel until we were able to file a police report. ) It's incredibly unfortunate that the staff was disinterested in helping us or showing concern for our situation. This hotel is really beautiful and we would've loved to visit again, but because of their unfortunate customer service, we won't be back. If you do choose to visit, proceed with an abundance of caution and don't take anything valuable! Marriott Hotels.

Always a pleasure staying here! Tried other area hotels, but nothing compares. Staff is very friendly and helpful, rooms are always clean, bathrooms are huge. Hotel Icon is historic and beautiful. We celebrated birthday/anniversay and the hotel staff had a lovely surprise for us. HIghly recomment Hotel Icon!

First time staying here and we weren't disappointed! Our check in was so easy just as was our checkout. Highlight though was our dinner, Chef Laura and staff provided an amazing meal for my wife and I. I defiently will come and and Highly recommend eating at the L&L restaurant.

It was built out of an old bank so it has a nice 30/40s aesthetic. Parking and breakfast costs extra! Free Wi-Fi and Ethernet. The room has a fridge, jacuzzi, and a nice view. Our towels and floor maps we're well used. Bed was okay.

Classic look and feel as soon as you enter lobby. Rooms are generous and very well appointed. The luxury feel goes down to the spa and exercise rooms where it feels like a private exclusive membership club. The staff made me feel very welcomed and special.

It's a nice hotel. Enjoyed the jacuzzi tub, and excellent water pressure in the shower. Other than that, I wasn't overly impressed with anything else. The rooms are in between modern and early 2000's. Everything was clean, but the room had a faint, old smell to it that you quickly forget after entering. Like most hotels downtown, you have to pay what I consider a little too much for your vehicle to stay the night.

My favorite place to stay in Houston. Very unique rooms owing to the fact that this is a historical building. They are also generous with upgrades for Platinum members. Nice lobby bar and lounge. The high ceilings on the top level make everything feel very spacious. Only downside is a lack of a pool, but they more than make up for it elsewhere. Great location as well.

I love the place, the people are very nice and the decor goes well with the building. I was so amazed by the giant volt door behind the front desk. Everything was nice and neat. Management was very nice and helpful to a situation I was under when a relative was supposed to extend his stay and was unable to due to his job. We had arrived to this city because of a funeral. They were very understanding and gave us back the money after we prepaid. Very professional and very mindful.

Excellent location downtown right if the light rail with easy access to museums and minute maid park. Clean spacious rooms. Excellent room service. Great bar and friendly staff.

First thing you have to know is there a hotel is a renovated Bank from the early 1900's. Because of this many things are set up slightly awkward. The elevators are small and Austin malfunction. It is not that you will be trapped in it it it just fails to work. When you put in your room card it will not register and takes many tries to make it work if it works. The rooms are nice let's clean and spacious the bathrooms are phenomenal. My only big gripe but the room has been the air quality. If you look up in the bathroom vents you will see a very thick coat layer of dust.

We have stayed at the Hotel Icon many times and it has always been a good experience. One time our air conditioning was not cooling very well but they took care of it right away and it was great after that. We love the location, the professional staff, the vintage feel and especially the visits when have had the deluxe or junior suites and enjoyed the large tub or jacuzzi. Valet personnel are efficient and front desk always greets and takes care of us. The bar and waiting area is wonderful too. We had complementary breakfast upgrade this last visit and that was excellent as well.

Beautiful hotel that was once a bank in downtown Houston. The gym here is one of the nicer gyms I have ever seen in a hotel, which for me is fantastic. The hotel food is very good and has a neat bar eight in the middle of the lobby. The bar staff was my favorite part of our stay here — my man Herbert is a fantastic steward and delivers top notch service.

This historic gem of a hotel is perhaps one of the best I’ve stayed at. The marble bathroom with its walk in shower and large windows were nothing short of luxurious. The gym is well equipped and rivals that of many other gyms. The staff was courteous and the nachos (no lettuce for me) from the kitchen were excellent.

Beautiful hotel with old time charm. Friendly staff and a great location. Breakfast was very nice. Room had nice view with lovely rain drop shower. Room service is available and the food was delicious.

Stayed here recently two nights for business. This is a part of the Marriott family but comes with a distinct character unlike most hotel chains. Convenient parking for a downtown location and they have a complimentary shuttle that I used to get back and forth from work. Good bar and dining room on site. They also had a nice fitness center that I took advantage of one evening. There seemed to be a lot of bar and restaurant options near by but I did not have time to explore. I did hear music from a band in my room first night but they were done by 9 or 10. There may be quieter rooms on other side of hotel for those with smaller children. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend!

I was expecting a lot more for the price, but I was a bit dissatisfied. The place is gorgeous for sure, but my first room was moldy and the AC smelled. Late at night, I tried using the bath, but the faucet was broken. They came up to relocate me to another room, which was much cleaner and pristine. I'm giving them two stars because they should've given me the second room in the first place. The first room was awful (everything was sticky and the breakfast card was filled by another guest) … Not cool at all…

If it isn’t clean the rest doesn’t matter. Love the location and ease in and out. Staff is always super friendly but this is the second time I’ve stayed here and the cleanliness is awful. No idea how this happens but didn’t write a review the first time. Just figured it was a one off. Even decided to try it again. This is my second time here and same issues. About to hit the hay and right when I pull the sheets back a yellow stain right there. How do you not notice this when making the bed?

Staff is friendly. Rooms are modern. Beds are comfy. Good location to downtown locations. Breakfast is yummy. If you have the money to spend (pricey), it's worth the experience.

This historic gem in the heart of Downtown Houston is a former bank and the original vault sits in the lobby of the hotel, talk about a welcoming wow factor! From the moment you arrive you feel immersed in historic nostalgia. The luxurious look and feel of the lobby, bar, and restaurant Line & Lariat make you feel like you've traveled to a 5 star hotel in New York City or even Paris. Once you ascend to your room in the original elevators you start to notice all the decor details. There's not a foot of decor, print, details left unimagined in this hotel. Even noticing the hand-shaped knobs that are on room doors as knockers put a smile on my face. The rooms are spacious and the staff was extremely friendly. Definitely recommend this hotel for a special event or even a stay-cation in Houston. Oh, and this review is mostly specific to the hotel but do not pass up the food & craft cocktails at Line & Lariat (even if you're not staying at the hotel). I have been back to the L&L bar a few times just for cocktails and have met for business lunches at Line & Lariat and to revisit my visit (pun intended).

Stayed here for the Houston half-marathon and loved it! I'll be back! Overall summary: Valet, check-in, restaurant wait staff, and housekeeping were all fantastic. Hotel ICON is keeping customer service alive and well. The location is fantastic, nearby great restaurants and bars, Metro rail is right outside the door, and the hotel offers a FREE shuttle to anywhere in downtown Houston. I love the larger room and larger bathroom (super-size shower with outstanding water pressure). The pullout sofa mattress was exceptionally comfortable, as was the bed. I love the building architecture, the building history, the décor, the details. I love the Houston marathon support and the late checkout — OUTSTANDING! Only negatives: walls were slightly thin, as I could hear neighbor's TV, and no microwave in the room.

I did an staycation here and we loved it. The service was great, the decor in the hotel is very appealing and the breakfast food had good flavoring. The room service was fast and the personnel was polite. We had the cheese platter which is perfectly portioned for two people. The restroom and bathtub is very specious, our room was a little tight but enough room for two people to move around comfortably and view was great as we could see downtown from our window. The location is amazing as there's plenty of bras & restaurants within walking distance as well as the train that runs all the way to the medical area. Overall I would stay here again.

Hotel very nice. Nice rooms however smell a bit musty. Main lobby had work being done on floors so sitting there wasn't a go. Shuttle was great perk for rides in the downtown area. Staff helpful. Rooms and bathrooms large. Overall nice stay.

The service was excellent. The room is amazing with possibly the best bathroom layout of any hotel. The location is great as well. I highly recommend the hotel ICON for a romantic night.

I can't say enough great things about this property. Located just steps from Market Square Park, restaurants, and night life, you can forget about having to drive anywhere during your stay. A CVS is under construction a block away as well. The property itself is opulent. Art deco aesthetic echoes throughout. The super high ceilings in the lobby along with marble and gold accents with intricately carved wood makes a stunning and lasting impression. Our guest room featured robin's egg blue walls, gold accents, marigold chairs, a stand-up shower, and a jetted tub. The view was decent and the natural light during the day was lovely. Staff were beyond friendly and accommodating. They welcome dogs, and with Market Square Park nearby, which has a dog park, taking care of them couldn't have been easier. I especially appreciate this aspect because we've taken doggies to other "pet friendly" properties only to find out the nearest patch of grass is 0.5 miles away (I'm looking at you, Royal Sonesta NOLA). They also only charge $100 per stay to bring your dogs. In other words, this property says they welcome pets and they mean it. We even had a couple staff members charm our boy dog who is young, rowdy, and not always super friendly. But these guys knew how to approach pooches so well even my rowdy boy was calm. It made me feel so welcome. I just can't wait to come back here. It's perfect!

Excellent hotel. We loved the ambiance and character of the room and common areas. Christian delivered our room service and was very polite and professional. Front desk staff was kind as well. Thanks to Christian and everyone at the hotel for making our Anniversary special.

The pics on line look amazing. However seeing it in person and the employees made no sense. At our arrival I was greeted by two workers that clearly forgot to shower. The night got scarier when the front desk female was chatting with her friends on the phone, then saw us and behaved as if we were bothering her. I asked her for a late check out since we arrived at 10:30 pm and this is a business trip. She agreed to 1pm check out. We finally arrived to our room and it had a steong mildew smell. The sheets on the bed and bench at the foot of the bed were dirty and had stains I do not want to even imagine of what! My husband and I left and went downstairs to speak to the same stale woman which by the way she questioned me several times as to what my findings were. She put us in room 1206 again an old stuffing room. I could not sleep all night. The smell was horrible and developed a cough and congestion. The sheets had a smell and carpets are in a desperate deep cleaning. For almost $300.00 a night do yourself a favor and do not stay at this place. I cant wait to leave this creepy, cold, dirty hotel. Do not let the pics on line fool you as it did us. Its been the longest night of my life! Unless you like the American Horror feels and decor than you'll feel at home…

Place was great. My brother was staying for his wedding night. The location was within walking distance of numerous bars and restaurants. The rooms were spacy with immaculate bathrooms and fixtures. The lobby was quite refined with the bar being in the center. All in all a lavish hotel experience.

Amazing location next to a beautiful park and the train. Theres a variety of restaurants, cafes and ethnic food around the area which I love. The hotel itself has great service and food. The ladies in the front desk we're very helpful in pointing out the best places to go and how to get to the zoo area. We ordered the spinach and feta omelette and it came with a generous side of potatoes. We also had pancakes and they did not skimp out on the chocolate and berries — delicious! My favorite part is the jet tub (we got the deluxe room for 2 night) which I used constantly. It was so relaxing! That's a major part I will miss.

Very nice and love the history. The elevator is very old fashion. And the antiques books are very Interesting. I wished I could flip through their pages.

I truly liked this place, the rooms are clean well kept and cozy, I was mostly in loved with the bathroom, super sexy large tub with an open window to the bed/TV area. Perfect for couples on holidays or just because. Staff was friendly, we did not try the bar or restaurant within the hotel but hopefully next time I'll have an update on those areas of the hotel. Overall we enjoyed our stay…

Just had my wedding here and it went fantastic! Michael McVey was outstanding in helping us put everything together! It was an amazing price for the value and quality of all that you are getting. I highly recommend that you at least check this place out. Here is a picture of how our evening looked! 10/10 Hotel Icon is our number 1 stop for any future events!

I give this hotel 2 stars, one for the nice staff and one for decor. It was very homey. The "premium" bedding was extremely uncomfortable (pillows were nice, though). Also my check in time was at 3 which I thought was really late, surprisingly not late enough because the room wasn't ready yet. I was compensated with a couple drink vouchers which was nice. It has been a couple days and checking my bank account this morning I find I was charged 165 over my already overpriced bill and am awaiting response/a copy of the bill from the hotel. I may be updating this review fun 2 stars to 1 based on this experience.

I expected more from this autograph collection, but I would still recommend. The food from its restaurant is delicious and sometimes one dish would be enough for 2! Decent gym, pleasant staff and average rooms. It would be nice it they would have more than one bottle of water in every room. The location is convenient to a go to a lot of place using public transportation/ uber/ cab. Prices are at par to other hotels in downtown area.

Outstanding hotel. The exterior design combined with the interior decor and design are beautiful. Service is top notch and I think this in part because the staff will just chat with you while you go around the building. I've never experienced that before. The room was clean and well decorated. The bed was so comfortable my wife didn't want to leave it. I was also here for a wedding and the venue room, service, and food were excellent. Elegant from the word go. I hope to visit again soon.

My wife and I came for the The Hotel Icon's Easter Brunch. Everything was great from the valet parking to the hostess, food and wait staff. The food selection was very good, especially the desserts. The mimosas were very good too.

We had a wonderful experience. Beautiful room. We were unexpectedly upgraded to a deluxe room with a huge jacuzzi tub. Room and bathroom were very spacious.
**mangement — please look into the key system. Our party had several rooms including one on the 12th floor. All had difficulty getting in rooms and getting key card to work in elevator.

We have stayed at Hotel Icon on two separate occasions; back in August for my birthday & this November for our 10th wedding anniversary & both occasions have been great. The staff was friendly & helpful. The few times we had room service or breakfast in the restaurant the food was great. Valet service was easy & extremely convenient, definitely worth the money. The rooms were amazing & the jacuzzi tub is the best part. I also love how there are so many great restaurants & cafes in walking distant. We will definitely be back & I'd recommend Hotel Icon to anyone.

The hotel was very nice and right in the middle of great restaurants and nice bars. The staff was friendly and the stay couldn't have been any better. I would recommend this to anyone else and I WILL be returning!

This hotel has many virtues and vices. The rooms are big and classy. I love the style and feel like I've stepped back in time. The food at the restaurant is surprisingly good. I loved the breakfast and you can order some really good entrees. Not a fan of the service and the overall cleanliness of the hotel. Not a good hotel for corporate travel a good time if you're coming in over the weekend.

Shady! After checking into our room, which was not fully cleaned, we alerted the housekeeping manager. Norbert (manager) was great and decided that our room should be comped. I was very appreciative. The charge was removed from our bill; however, after leaving the charge was recharged back to our room! I only knew after checking our credit card bill statement and an additional charge of $17.09 was included! Keep an eye on your statements after leaving this Marriott. I would have preferred to stay at another Marriott property in Houston. They also charge $33 for parking and tried to charge me for two cars because I was towing a 4X8 U-Haul. The underground parking area was not full! As a military family moving across country, I only choose Marriott because of their customer service and hospitality. Thankfully, the revised the charges when I called but had I not caught the "accident" I would have paid way more than my final bill reflected. Avoid this overpriced ICON brand hotel!

Walked in to the Line and Lariat bar for a mimosa after a very disappointing breakfast at honeymoon cafe… best service, smiling faces, and nicest atmosphere. Love it here!

A very nice boutique hotel. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Additionally, the restaurant in the lobby has a great continental breakfast.

Possibly best room layout and attention to detail we have ever seen. I think we'll be looking to see if we're lucky enough to find an Autograph Collection hotel wherever we go, from now on.

Just a word: beautiful!

This hotel was beautiful and possessed a history in its construction that was conveyed from the wall decor. Being a native from Houston, it was nice to stay at a hospitable location that was right next to an area where I grew up. Re-experiencing the Houston area brought back memories, and it was nice to stay in an environment that was friendly and fostered care into its customer's needs.

The actual hotel is beautiful with a great history but the front desk attendants were not friendly at all. The smoking policy does not state no electronic cigarettes but our room was charged $250 because a hotel employee said there were pictures of one our party "vaping". So FYI no vaping although it's not in the smoking policy. No refunds! Also, they bring ice to the room upon request and it takes forever! I will not stay there again.

I cannot began to say enough nice things about his place. I just want you Hotel Icon to know that your staff made my stay. I requested and early check in through my reservation as well as o the phone 3 weeks prior. I was greeted by Travis. Travis must be CEO of hospitality because he made me feel important as soon as I walked through the door. I live in Houston but travel alot for busines. I have been to one of the most prestige hotels in America however the customer service or should I say the VIP service here was unmatched. Most importantly I was VIP the moment I walked in and not just another customer who needed a nights stay. My friends were impressed. The bell hop was great as well. I don't remember his name but he was a tall mocha skin completed man with a very nice smile and accent. He was very helpful he waited for me and all my bags and gave me history about the hotel on my way up to the penthouse floor. Everyone was so helpful but most of all I will never forget Travis, he needs a promotion or maybe you guys (Hotel Icon) could get suggestions from him on how guest should be treated. I will do a staycation here very soon. Thank you Travis for making my stay.

Junior suites did not have robes in room as website stated The beds are very hard had to sleep on couch. There are no extra throws or blankets in room no vending machines so a snack or soda late night.

This is a good place to rest, bathroom was spacious and clean, food and service are excellent. Only complaint is the hotel does not have a travel products, Marriott will usually have a small shop selling snacks and portable drug Sunday night my boyfriend and I felt very uncomfortable, simply could not drive to get ibuprofen and stomach, front desk said that the hotel has no drugs, where the nearest drugstore also closed. If you sell these necessities would be nice here, especially considering there is no sick, driving in Houston will get lost.

Location was perfect and walking distance to tons of bars and restaurants. The room was very nice and comfortable. All staff we interacted with were not friendly and quite rude.

My wife and I recently chose Hotel ICON for the second time this year. The location is perfectly located for quick access to downtown Houston points of interest. The first time was for an Astros game. Our most recent stay was for a quick anniversary get away. We briefly mentioned to the staff it was our anniversary and to our surprise we found a complimentary desert plate and bottle of champagne when we returned from dinner. Helpful staff. Clean rooms. We'll only stay here for overnight visits in Houston.

Valet stole an expensive remote that was on my keychain and used to open the gate and elevators at my apartment building. I called several times, and they kept putting me on hold to try and get me to hang up. Spoke with the supervisor Andrea, as well as leaving a message for another supervisor. Was told that they would call me back multiple times, and no one ever called me back. $75 dollars out of pocket to replace the remote, and Hotel Icon doesn't care at all that their valet attendees are stealing from guests. Never going here again.

I am a sucker for anything that has a good history and Hotel ICON has more than I can tell. When we pulled up to the front of Hotel ICON I was so stoked we would be staying right there in downtown. There are tall buildings, restaurants, bars, even the homeless guys asking for cigarettes. It's all there! Reminds me of home in Dallas! Love it! (Minus the CRAZY drivers! ) Now as you walk through the Hotel ICON you begin to feel small. Everything looks so amazing. The decor is timeless, the lighting low, the space enormous. Our room was beautiful. We had the smallest size room I believe, so there was one double bed, a desk, chair, and dresser with LED TV in the room, and a beautiful bathroom with a huge walk in shower. There was plenty of room for my husband and I and our things. We didn't get in each others way, so that was a bonus! There were also 2 huge windows in our room on two separate walls so the very first thing I did was open those bad boys up! The bathroom had quite a lot of room and was stocked with a hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. There was a huge walk-in shower with about as much interior room as a small SUV. Kid you not. The mattreee on the bed was extremely comfortable. So much so that we are going to buy a new bed this week! In the morning there is a huge buffet downstairs. You can order in your room or go to the lobby to eat. There is a super clean fitness center as well as spa available. Parking at HotelICON is $32 for valet overnight.

Our suite here was great. The service, with which we didn't interact too much, was up to par. We took an Uber to and from so nothing to complain about when it comes to parking. The bar staff downstairs even gave us extra glasses for the room without question. Great experience.

The management is horrible avoid this place if you believe in freedom of speech.

For what they claim, the hotel is completely sub par. Horrible customer service, absolutely no attention to detail, and just an overall lack or professionalism that you would expect from a higher end hotel. I asked for an early check in, the room was not ready. I took the elevator down to the lobby and wanted to order from the restaurant. The host told me to go back up to my room and order because the menu selection was greater, failing to mention I would be charged a "delivery fee. " What would you know, they totally screwed up my order after repeating it to them 4 times. I asked for a set of spoons to be brought up because I bought ice cream earlier in the day, I was charged for that as well. Finally at check out, I paid for my stay in cash, only to find when I came home, my credit card had been charged anyway. Glad I kept the receipt. Very, very lack luster performance. I will not stay here again, nor would I recommend it to anyone staying in the Houston area.

Rudest staff on the planet. Called the police on my husband because I went to bed upstairs accidentally carrying both of the key cards with me and they would not give him a key because they said "I might not want him up there. " We checked in together, it made absolutely no sense. He tried calling me, but I had fallen asleep and did not answer. So understandably he was upset that they would not give him a key to the room and they called the police saying he was inebriated, when he absolutely was not. I will never stay here again. Treat your customers with respect.

Really enjoyed my stay here. The room is so cute, very cute for couples. The bathroom has a shutter door that opens to the room from the bathtub. The shower is large and they have amenities already mounted in there. They have a cute duck that is a hotel specialty and you can take them home for a $1. There is a boy and girl cowboy/girl duck. The valet can be a bit of a nightmare to get into since it's after the hotel and goes down and can get crowded. Although the bed was comfortable the pillows were strangely small and there weren't other pillows.
