Reviews of Econo Lodge Downtown South 2*
I recommend everything, the rooms and pool.
In the morning my husband came to ask them to clean my room, because since we arrived yesterday we found a used condom, we have been coming to the room and the condom is still there. They did nothing to fix the problem.
It wasn’t that close to down town San Antonio. Beds were hard couldn’t sleep all weekend. Got charged for service when it should have been already included. Tub was clogged and first night not enough towels and heater didn’t work.
Waited close to 10 minutes for staff to be able to check in. You get what you pay for, we just wanted a place to sleep for the night, and that's about all this place is good for. Lights were broken in our room, and rusty screws were showing in the wall. The bed was also very hard.
Nice place to stay. Great views. Really nice staff. Workout room. Clean rooms. Comfortable beds.
I made the mistake of believing the pictures. I prebooked and when I showed up, the place is rundown, pool is no where close to the size in the pics. If the place ever looked like that had to have been when it 1st opened. Told them I wasn't staying there and tried to cancel my reservation (I had time) and they refused. Much rather loose the one night fee than stay in that nasty hotel. Do not recommend! Hotel sites should take this one off!
Absolutely horrible. They make you sign for their non-smoking policy but when you go in the room it smelled like a carton had just been smoked. No lights in the parking lot. The door didn't even fit right with lots of light coming in through the edges. Chair was stained. Cigarette burns on the linens. What appeared to be gangbangers standing around. What appeared to be mold on the refrigerator. Just nasty. Plus they were willing to only refund one night because they feel they are a safe property. I wouldn't let livestock stay there.
This is a great budget hotel that is very clean and comfortable! I paid $89 for one of the last two available rooms on a busy night and here is what I got: Quick check in, 2 super comfortable beds with crisp and visibly clean (and pleasant smelling) linen. A spacious corner room (117) with a spotlessly clean bathroom, cold AC, and in the morning there were warm Texas shaped waffles and Columbian coffee (and a small assortment of mini-muffins, fruit, instant oatmeal and cereal. What most impressed me though was the quiet room. This hotel is by a busy road and it was 99% booked. There were people walking by and talking, kids playing etc, but the second I closed my room door it was blissfully quiet. I slept well and will definitely stay here again :)
Well the rooms were clean for the most part you can't expect much from the area. But I was at least comfortable enough with the bedding to be able to sleep in it without having to change it into my own sheets. The staff wasn't very helpful and they seemed like everybody was a nuisance and like we were merely in their way. When I called the front desk to be connected to a relative's room they basically a little to the fact of why don't we use our cell phones? That is not the point they have a service I called to be connected they should have done so with a friendly greeting and yes ma'am yes sir but that is not what I received even though I was transferred it was very unprofessional and lacked any ounce of customer service that would have been left to provide.
This use yo be a very clean and well together place to stay. But here recently ive seen roaches and things missing from rooms light no light bulbs no fon to call the office always the second floor ice machine is broken, and the washers well, I think its time for some new ones…
In 30 min went the light 3 times with the heat to 105 when it arrives at 11 pm my card would not have and lasted 1 h in habrirme a horrible experience.
I can't give a 0 star rating but if I could thats what it would be this is the worst hotel I've been to service is horrible the a/c goes out every 15 min and I got locked out of my own room for 2 hours they didt care about it never como to this hotel if you can pay $50 extra for another hotel just do it its totally worth it.
Reservations for 4 rooms that were together were made several months prior. This did not happen. Each room had different problems. Broken furniture, damaged bathroom, extreme mildow behind a headboard, curtains that wouldn't close, etc…
Good day, This hotel made me unpleasant as the rooms were dirty and with a frightening smell, additional to this the attention of the people in the lobby were very rude and with very poor attention, do not recognized Charges.
The breakfast was very good.
I don't recommend it for Anything.
Best regards.
I booked a room with this hotel, and while on the phone informed them I have a service dog. Also when checking in it was confirmed I have a service dog with me. Once I checked out I noticed a additional $50 for a "pet fee" I called speaking to the manager Peter, or Pete which ever it was. This hotel has no clue how to follow the ADA laws. I have called the Corp number and filled a complaint with Cassy. I will also be reporting this to the ADA which will be investigated by the law. Hopefully the GM Paresh will hire employees as well make sure staff of professional trained to know the ADA laws as well rights for them!
Very nice hotel and very comfortable and economical with pool for children.
Usually I am easy going about our hotel rooms but this place was horrible. The first thing we encountered when we tried to check in was the fact that we had to use a glass prison like window barrier like you find in a gas station kiosk. There was a lobby and a desk but we weren't allowed in. I asked if it was a bad neighborhood but she said it was very nice. We got 2 electronic keys but only one worked but we still couldn't get in our room. Finally while lifting the handle up and shoving, we got in. There was a deadbolt but the other locks were all missing. Two lamp shades were broken, there was a smashed bug on the wall, some dirty residue on the wallpaper, ants crawling on the bathroom floor, and some other bug crawling around. One of the comforters had holes in it and the whole room needed repairs. We were so exhausted that we stayed to sleep but left early without even showering because it was just that bad. And all this for over $200/night because it was final four weekend.

Good hotel. Good owners. Friendly staff and management. Nice rooms with a cozy feel to them like ur at home. Free cable and Wi-Fi and breakfast every morning and great housekeeping service everyday. It's also located in a good area just off 35. Very welcoming to travelers and tourists and workers and family's on vacation and couples of course.
NASTY! We checked in and in our 1st room, which was Rm 111, the heat didn't work. I called to the front desk and the girl found us another room. So our 2nd room, which was Rm 114, the didn't work either. I called and told the girl at the front desk and she moved us again. Our 3rd and final room, which was Rm 127, was good b/c the heat worked great. Well little did we know the room was a disaster. While my husband and I proceed to watch the Clemson football game he got up and stomped on a bug. Yeah that bug a roach and then another and another. I then look at the mattresses and yep BEDBUGS! I called to the front desk and asked for my money back. I got all my money back and I am staying at a very nice Studio 6 by the airport. The lady at the front desk was indeed very nice. She was also very helpful in getting us into a room with heat. When I told her about the roaches and bedbugs she didn't make any excuses as to why the room had bugs, ALL bugs. She was very understanding and was nice about the whole situation. The lady running the front desk was the best thing out of that whole bad experience. Please do not stay at this hotel. If you do you take home FRIENDS and plenty of them.
So far, we're unhappy. My boyfriend said "Give then 0 stars if you can". Simply put, it's not the average persons preference when choosing a place to stay/sleep. We're here for 2 days and this is night 1. The bathroom smells like piss (probably a specific room issue) and there are SEVERAL cockroaches of all ages (baby to adult) all over the room (probably not just room specific). The front desk offered to move us to a different room but we were so tired and one of us wasn't feeling well so we decided to see how the night goes. The roaches were in the microwave, the fridge, the table tops, scattering across the floor in the bathroom sink area. It's not as bad as sleeping on the streets, and I'm warm at least so I can't complain there. But now we're also concerned about tracking bugs home. The noises from the street are terrible and loud too. You get the feeling that you're just on the wrong side of town with the honking and popping and screeching noises all night/day. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
We were not exactly welcomed very warmly but I didn’t let that bother me too much. Our room smelled like smoke, yet we reserved and paid for a room that was non smoking. The toilet leaked, the top chain lock was missing, the peep hole had toilet paper stuffed into it. The gap under our door was a nice little gap. What else? Oh and we didn’t have a table just one chair. My other relatives were in the same type of room we were in and they did say it smelled among other things, but they had a table and two chairs. My kids said they saw a baby roach too. It was a double bed room yet only 2 towels. Had to ask for more but also had to go and retrieve them too. Aahhh glad that stay is over. Next time I’ll read the reviews. I was only happy that there was cable. One star.
Roaches in the bed, ants. Horrible!
Dont stay here. Id give it a 0 if I could. I got there check in and out in 10 minutes. Lady at desk was rude as hell. I booked a week never stayed and they still charged me for a day. I left and went to holiday inn market square. It so clean and nice, staff is welcoming. Econ lodge looked like hotel from hell. Lobby smelled. Staff is horrible.
I just finished killing 5 roaches… and I just walked in 3 mins ago … this is really gross I never been to a hotel this ugly and filthy in my whole lifeeeee. I'm not even exaggerating. Who ever wants pictures just comment and I'll send them to you…
Checked in Sunday 2pm. Checked out at 2:10pm. Nonsmoking room. Cigarette burns on bed and sheets. Dirty floor not moped in months. Cocroach climbing the walls in broad daylight. Coffee ground still in the pot. Hair all over the shower walls. Stained sheet. And mold on walls. Looked like blood on the walls that was dried. Pee stains from pets all around the skirting of the bed. This place is a dump. And the managers and maid should all be terminated. Discusting hotel. I would not even let my dogs state there. Choice hotels. Why are you not doing anything about this. You should be embarrassed that you ever have this crack hotel on your Web site… 3 stars right. Like negative 5 stars. Ruined my trip. Drove 3 hours to not have a hotel room. Customer service was even worse. When I called them, the idiot tried to send me back to the same hotel. Maybe your people should shut up and listen to the customers. Don't state here unclean and unsafe if you don't have any bugs you will when you leave. We went and state at the laquinta. Was nice.
You get what you pay for. Room is clean and decent but in definite need of updating. The shower isn't even fully adhered to the wall. Close to lackland and decent price so good for a graduation visit as you're not in the hotel that much anyway.
Hotel needs more updates… sheets are old, my room needed pillows a table and chairs. Refrigerator was loud, room was hot when we entered had to wait a good 30 45 minutes before room cooled off to sleep comfortably. Front desk clerk Gabby was especially nice!
My family and I travel 8 hours to visit a family member in the hospital expecting at least a clean room to freshen up and visit our relative. What we received was a room that smelled like smoke and beer and when we wiped down the doorknobs and counter we were surprised to find them riddled with dust and grime. There was bodily fluids on the blankets because housekeeping didn't wash them. When requesting a refund we were refused and shown another room with crumbs on the bed. When I complained to management I was told that there was nothing wrong with the rooms. They claimed that the rooms weren't dirty and didn't smell. Worst bookings we have ever made.
Room are nice service was very good the location was ok to much traffic those did not like, they give you all information ifyouwantto seethemission Are go down town.
Clean, quiet room friendly staff decent rate.
First of all, my friend booked this hotel and asked multiple questions and they still didn't clarify enough about prices and charges to her. So the day of check in before we left her house they had charged her $176 and did not let her know about those charges. She called and they talked to her very rudly about why they charged her which they didn't tell her about. Second of all, when we were checking in, the lady that helped us had an attitude and bad customer service. Third of all, when we first walked into the room, we saw stains on the wall, floor and my friends sister thought she saw blood on the blanket to her bed. Also when we tried turning on the ventilator to our bathroom it didnt work amd our air conditioner was leaking the whole weekend. Fourth of all, they had charged both our cards (we were splitting the cost) all weekend and it was pending and then we didn't see it charged anymore, so we asked and they said we had already paid it all and we had $0 remaining to pay for. Then the day after we had made it back to the house they had charged one of our cards and when my friend called they got super hostile and called her stupid and then hung up on her.
Our room was not clean when we arrived as we found hair on the walls and staining in the bathtub and on the bedding. The room smelled like smoke, however we'd paid for and reserved a non-smoking room. There were cigarrette burns in the bedding and on the dresser. The staff was kind but we were interrupted twice in the morning and asked if we were staying or checking out. Our paperwork said checkout was at noon, so the fact that we were pestered twice before noon was inappropriate and unprofessional. The doors don't work as expected, you have to lift the handle up all the way instead of down after the green light comes on. The continental breakfast was worse than expected. There is a waffle maker, two kinds of cereal available, two kinds of bread for toast, apples in a basket, and coffee. Overall, we expected much more out of our stay than what we experienced.
I stay at Radison and Hilton… and have stayed motel 6 and holiday when coming to San Antonio, but we picked this motel due to location. Was extremely surprised by the motels room, as well as staff. Everyone was outstanding. Any issues where dealt immediately. Even our 2 dogs and grand kids enjoyed it. My dogs have there own beds are are better behaved than allot of kids. The staff even assisted with them. Thank you, and we will stay here from now on.
Housekeeping was horrible not one day out of my 5 days there was the rooom or dirty towels fixed or replaced. Also had to change rooms due to the A/C not working, also breakfast was not even breakfast unless you like eating just toast and cereal. Horrible service overall not worth my vacation. Won't be coming here again!
Very clean. Nice. I enjoyed my stay. The service was great. Highly recommended.
When we first arrived, the rooms had a really bad smell to them. My sister got bit by bedbugs from one night of staying there. Asked if we could get a refund and after talking to a few people they finally decided to refund the money for one room. Worst place to stay in! Bedbugs. Bad service and oh yeah bedbugs!
The lock on the door does not work. The curtains were torn up. Beds were very uncomfortable. Someone was messing with the door handle of my car, and someone pucked next to my car.
Very misleading. Walked in and the room smelled like mildew. No lights in the bathroom. The knob for the temperature control is broken. Walked in the office to check in and the lady would not smile. Our locks on the door are broken. We expected to have a get away for our one year anniversary. Never staying here again. The city is no where close to the hotel. Do not stay here. Waste of time and money.
This place is the worst. My room was broken into on my second day with possibly a crow bar as the safety latch was popped off. Staff told me it's not their problem and refused to give me another suite, transfer the other 5 paid days of money to another hotel or refund me. I had my 3yr old child with me ffs! So I had to leave without compensation and pay several hundred more dollars to a different hotel and am looking at small claims court to get my money back com these assholes. I will never in my life stay at one of these hotels again and I will be diligent in letting everyone know what a craphole this place and its staff are. Hopefully theyll lose their choice hotel membership because they sure as hell don't abide by it.
Smelled nasty as soon as I came in the room. My husbands allergies got really bad night after night! Everything is out dated! Late at night restaurants will slip advertisements under your door and wake u up. And after reading the reviews for this hotel I have seen that this place is a dump! Horrible customer service when I would go ask questions. Most of the lights wouldn't turn on in my room. After reading reviews I realized one lady posted bed bugs in her room and has to go to the hospital from a reaction Which was the same room number as mine! And wasn't long ago! And there was reviews of people braking into cars! I don't feel safe here! Horrible! I ask if they had a laundry room and they said sure out side, I walked around and found that it was out in the cold very out dated and out of order! No one has come to clean my room in days. PLEASE! PLEASE! Save yourself from the pain of this hotel of hell.
Clean rooms. Close to a whataburger. Quiet area. Just wished the back parking lot was bitter lighted. Kinda dark out back.
Horrible experience! We had ants in the bathroom, the mini fridge was extremely noisy, and the breakfast was pitiful. Your choice of food was 2 cereals, toast, waffle, and sausage that wasn't cooked all they way. Our family ended up walking to a fast food place instead. The worst was our car was broken into and they didn't really seem to care. We were given the managers phone number and she would only discount our room by $10. Worst experience ever!
Maggie and Ashley are the best! They are friendly and so nice. Rooms clean, good service.
Good location, affordable price.
Stayed on the wrong day and wrong side — trash picked up at 5:30 and people talking outside until 1am.
The beds were like sleeping on a board. My room was damp and moldy smelling. They came out and tried cleaning the pool while we were in it which was about 4pm. No eggs for warm breakfast. Just 2 pans of sausage links to go with the make your own waffles, cereal, toast and oatmeal in a box. Our room wasn't cleaned until 5pm. Staff was friendly but seemed under staffed. Would not recommend to anyone.
The room stunk unless cold, wallpaper was peeling and missing. Bath light wouldn't turn off, did I mention the roach that literally woke me up running across my face. Guess I should include the meth deals readily available in the next room. I travel quite a bit, and have learned you get what u pay for. Dump.
Really nice, quiet and friendly hotel. Rooms where real clean and everytime we came back our room would be clean. About 10 — 15 min away from downtown. Would stay there again definitely.
Clean, friendly staff, affordable rate. What more could you ask from budget motel? The only thing I can think of that we didn't really like was the breakfast. Standard, minimal things to eat. It was okay, would feed you, but not great.
I paid for 2 nights, a king sized bed. It came with a couch, fridge, microwave, desk. The room was extremely clean. The AC was quieter than normal — which was great. There was an awesome heat lamp in the bathroom. The only thing I wished I had was a kitchenette but I wouldn't have done any cooking anyways. Also a bigger coffee maker than one cup. Its only enough for one person! I didn't try the breakfast in the morning. I overslept both days — THE BED WAS SO COMFORTABLE I DIDN'T WANT TO GET UP! It was a king pillow-top mattress. And you get 4 pillows which were like fluffy clouds. It was a dream. I will definitely come back to this hotel.
Terrible motel. Booked through hotwire as a supposed hot deal, although it cost more than the standard rate. Beggers knocking on my door.
This is the worst place I have ever stayed in. The room was full of bed bugs, I had a headache so I slept taking medicine. I felt asleep for about an hour and when I woke up my body was itchy, even my face was all swollen up due to the bugs bite. I had to go in emergency for steroids. It was so itchy and swollen and I was already not feeling well. I went to the reception and told them even showed them the pictures of the bed bugs. The housekeeper even came in to see the bed bugs. The guy I the reception declined to refund instead offered me another room. They forced me to stay in the different room as they wouldn't refund me. I went over there with my family, it was a nightmare for me and my family. This the the worst place to stay and worst customer service you will ever find. The room number was 206. This place just sucks. Please don't make your vacation nightmare.
I had placed notes in my reservation that I was checking in late and as we arrived the lady at the front desk did not issue me a room, but instead allowed the charge to go through on my card and not issue me a room and stated I would have to pay almost double to get another room. The room I had reserved was vacant and she did not bother to contact a manager to help. I found a place across the street cheaper and friendlier.
It wasn’t that close to down town San Antonio. Beds were hard couldn’t sleep all weekend. Got charged for service when it should have been already included. Tub was clogged and first night not enough towels and heater didn’t work.

I booked a room with booking had great pictures but on arrival my goodness it was gross an smelt so bad it literally had graffiti on the lamp an connecting door the walls were damaged the bathroom was gross as hell an the mirror was broken an had what appeared to be blood near the mirror the wall was stained with god knows what the shower had black specks of idk what I took pictures as soon as I got there the pictures online look absolutely nothing like the rooms you actually get the bed was hard as hell the pillows were thin and the chair that was in the room looked like they have never cleaned it I got charged more once I got home an they took my deposit of 50 as well tried calling them but now their phone doesn’t work I reported their business to the bbb but that doesn’t look hopeful either as they don’t respond to their complaints.
