Highly recommend. You won’t be disappointed.

My Daughter and her boyfriend were having dinner at the restaurant for her birthday. The valet service parked his truck in the parking lot of the Hotel. When they walked out to get in the truck someone had broken a window and ransacked the truck. Money was stolen, her keys to her apartment and car, and gift cards in her purse. The Sheriff Department came 25 minutes after being called. The CSI could not find any fimgerprints. Very suspicious! The Hotel management was not very helpful because the Valet Service is separate from the Hotel. There is no Security at the hotel at all! My daughter and her boyfriend had to take off from work to take care of everything today. NOT GOOD! Do not park in the Balast parking lot — even if you are a guest — it is not safe! Shameful!

Lovely family oriented hotel in historic downtown. A selection of restaurants within walking distance. Nice pool and bar.

Very overpriced hotel. One elevator for a 8-9 story hotel is so inconvenient. Beds are comfy but rooms are small with a bed and TV and 1 chair, no other convenience like a fridge or microwave. Bathrooms are updated but don’t look at the ceiling, mold was growing. Walls are super thin and we heard our neighbors cell phone alarm at 5am. On site breakfast buffet was terrible for the price. Frequent traveler and cheaper hotels have better free breakfast options than this hotel. Parking was a pain and confusing where to enter the hotel from parking. Parking is an extra charge. We could have just parked at the garage across the hotel and saved us time and money. This hotel markets themselves as 5 star but does not live up to it. Only positive thing I could say is the location is amazing,

One of my all time favorite hotels! Nothing like the hotel Ballast. The staff are amazing — rooms are always clean and the restaurant is on point. We love it and come back all the time.

If you want a room with a view of the river this is the place to go. For what the rooms cost I would have expected some better amenities in the rooms and a bar that serves people who want to dress casual. Ruth Chris is nice, but expect to pay $$$$$.

We just stayed at the Ballast for a long weekend. We paid over $200 per night for a small room. No sofa and no refrigerator. Not one visit from cleaning crew, so no fresh towels. With COVID situation the bathroom looked clean on the surface but the glass shelf under the sink was filthy! An inch of dust and obviously lacked cleaning of any kind. Slow elevators. Slow food service. Not ample parking. Very disappointed overall. Would not recommend or revisit.

I could not have had a better check-in experience than I had here. Erica was the manager on duty and made sure every single thing was perfect for my stay. She went above and beyond with my requests with such a professional and friendly attitude! The location of this hotel is really beautiful, overlooking the Cape Fear River. I’ve stayed here before and the service and amenities are always top notch! I lived in Wilmington for 3 years but when visiting, I would absolute recommend staying here.

Would not recommend this hotel. Service was absolutely horrendous from start to finish. Ridiculous wait to check-in, get a drink, and simply buy water before we departed. Everyone at the front desk seemed to have a very poor attitude when asking simple questions like “where can we find breakfast”. The state of NC requires face masks while indoors. Countless waiting for the elevator as nobody wore masks and we had to continuously decline riding. Lobby filled with people without masks as well. I would expect a high end hotel to follow the health and safety regulations set forth by the state. Even walking down the hall there was housekeeping staff in the halls coughing without a mask. Maybe you cannot control the patrons decisions to wear masks, but staff should be required to wear masks. Never again.

All the employees were more than accommodating! Everything was well kept and very clean! I highly recommend and will definitely be coming back!

Beautiful facility with the best of everything on grounds. Friendly accommodating staff that go out of their way to please. I had the pleasure to meet the general manager this afternoon and he is a wonderful man. Although the rest of our stay we won't be able to enjoy some of the ambiance due to Corona restrictions we can't imagine a better place to be during our important family event in Wilmington.

Beautiful location right on the river walk in downtown. Walking distance to all of the great restaurants and bars. Tastefully decorated upscale accommodations. The breakfast buffet is amazing and the restaurant has some great choices. The outdoor pool overlooking the river walk and the battleship is very relaxing. Here’s the view from my room — amazing! Hope to stay again in the future!

Excellent hotel I stay here everytime im in wilmington for work. Great meal choices and customer service is second to none. Addison at the front desk was very helpful and checked in with me a couple times to make sure I didnt need anything. 10/10!

We have stayed here twice. Each time did not disappoint. The room are super clean and new. Comfy beds and spacious bathrooms. The hotel bar has the best espresso martini! I have stopped in Times when we are just down for the day just for that drink! We will decently be back for a night.

It’s in a great location in Downtown Wilmington and the hotel is very nice. Well worth the price of the hotel rooms.

I hosted a small meeting at the newly renovated Hotel Ballast and have been raving about it since. From start to finish, the staff made my event seamless which allowed for me to enjoy my time there rather than worrying about details.
They assisted in selecting the food I offered to my guests, which was delicious! The staff was attentive without being "too much. " Hotel Ballast is beautiful, and the atmosphere we need in downtown Wilmington. Highly recommend for overnight stays, business meetings or catered events.

The redo is really nice. Gorgeous artwork & deco. We enjoyed great live music by the river and watched the sunset while sipping drinks in the pool. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the room smelled extremely musty.

Where do I begin? I stayed here a few years ago before everything changed over and it was great. This latest experience was awful. The front desk person told us that she's charging us for parking and that "there may not be enough space and that the parking bar may or may not lift". So basically telling us good luck. Next my key didn't work. I went to the desk and the employee tried "fixing" the key. I go back up and yet again the key doesn't work. Thankfully my friend was there to let me in. Now, the final straw. We had cold water in the shower. We told the desk attendant at checkout and she said she'd tell maintenance to get it fixed. Well, I'm glad the next guest will have hot water for a shower. I paid over $200 for a quality stay and got nothing but a bad experience. I'll go cheaper next time and stay at a cheaper hotel. I'd at least get hot water. Disappointed and I will never recommend.

We stayed there on 6/22/18. The staff was kind, respectful and helpful. We were upgraded to a suite for the evening, which was very unexpected but wonderful! Everything was clean, neat and in excellent condition. The view of the river is breath taking at sunset. If I stay in downtown Wilmington again, there is no doubt I will return to this hotel.

I was a spouse at a company event here this weekend. The hotel is in an absolutely perfect location, especially if you end up on your own most the day. No spouse needed, you feel perfectly safe and secure lounging at the pool, or enjoying the huge shaded patio area with its comfy couches and beautiful waterway view. The open airy Board & Barrel cafe was excellent and served right at the pool or patio area. The outside bar opens directly onto the river walk, the battleship is across the waterway on one side and historic downtown on the opposite side. Museums, historic mansions, beautiful gardens, shopping, and a plethora of restaurants are all within walking distance, so no car needed unless you want to take a short 20-minute drive to the beach, which you should! The beach is beautiful and Oceanic restaurant was off the "hook". To be fair the only drawback was no mini fridge, no continental breakfast or even coffee, but the rest made up for that.

We were very impressed with the hotel from the time we checked in to the time we checked out. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The newly decorated room was nice and beds were comfortable as well. We didn't get the room on the river view but over look the city was nice. River walk was a plus. We've stayed over 100 nights this past year with Hilton and this hotel is definitely on our top 5. We highly recommend this hotel if you stay in downtown Wilmington.
