Very disappointing! Specifically requested room with view of harbor and we were assured we had room with view of harbor. Upon arrival we were told our room did not have view but after much posturing manager said he would give us a room with a view of the harbor from those he held in reserve. Our room was a large handicap accessible room with a view of a parking lot full of buses. We were able to see the buses all night because our shades would not close (closing one resul…ted in the other opening all the way). Called twice for help — no one ever showed up. Lights were shining into our room all night. We had no privacy. To make matters worse the electronically controlled shades would randomly turn on/off causing one side to close while fully opening the other throughout the night.
The “restaurant” was a very limited bar food menu run through the bartender. There were no other servers and the bartender seemed more concerned about talking to his friend than getting our drink order right. Like most hotel menus, food was overpriced.
The two main reasons we chose this place were the harbor view (we would not have stayed if we had not been told we would be in a room with this view) and pet friendly policies. When we arrived we received one small water bowl (we were told we would receive a welcome package for each of our dogs including bowl, dog toy/treats, blanket). Manager was not familiar with policies about where dogs were permitted in hotel and seemed surprised that dogs were permitted inside on leash. Manager gave us room on 5th floor (supposedly to provide view) despite being told during placing of reservation that dogs would be placed on first or second floor to allow easier access to outdoors.
Upon checking out we once again reported all of these things to the daytime manager who voiced concerned but made no attempt to resolve or offer some remuneration. The attitude of staff was generally indifferent, inattentive and unresponsive. Quality hotels start with well trained and responsive staff. There were no signs of either at Aloft Syracuse Inner Harbor. We would not recommend staying here nor would we return.
