Love location; comfy & spacious room. Great staff. Stayed twice in last month. Yummy bakery alongside. Will only stay here in future trips to Gardnerville. Dog friendly!

This was quite a pleasant surprise. I see someone made a negative review, they must have been staying at a different place and was confused. The room was adorable and very spacious. They cater to dogs as well, even had a little welcome gift for them. Our room was very quiet and the breakfast was outstanding, not your typical continental fare you get at other places. Looking forward to staying here again.

The room was super cute and quite spacious. The beds were very comfy as well. They had a microwave and mini fridge. The staff was pretty friendly and even gave us a voucher for breakfast when we were late. Which was at the bakery next door and very good! Definitely going to stay there again. The coffee pot wouldn't work, which may have been an outlet issue, but that was really my only issiem.

Awesome small hotel with inexpensive rooms in a wonderful small town. Highly recommended.

I’m here now in a wonderfully large room with environmental amenities. The bed is incredibly comfortable and the surroundings are so quiet! Staff is super friendly — what a great find!

Just no. I will start with the positives. Room was clean and updated. First off this is a motel (room doors open to the outside of the buiding) and there is no elevator to the second floor. I am a solo female traveler where inside doors and sevond floor rooms are recommended. I was given a room in the back with a view of the parking lot — should have kept it. I had arrived somewhat early so I wanted a better view and was told traffic noise didn't really pick up until after 7 am. B***sh**! All night long. Really bad since it's next to a stop light, semi-trucks breaking is super loud. Maybe if they got better windows? Beautiful view but not worth giving up a good nights rest.

Great front desk and phone reservation service. Very friendly. Pet friendly and nice soft bed in reasonably updated room. Arrived at 8p and got to hear a dog barking for 3+ hours in parking lot next door. Dog in back of pickup truck when owner drinking inside. Freezing outside. 11p Saturday night had other guests, which seemed to be a pack of elphants wearing ski boots, stomp around and talk outside our door loudly until 3a. Then pounding on the bar door next door at 4a when someone got locked out. So comfortable, friendly place that is difficult to enjoy due to lots of inconsiderate people. Location probably has to do a bit with that.

Love the Historian Inn. Pet friendly. Friendly front desk. Very clean and comfortable. Close to Lake Tahoe, Genoa, Carson City, Virginia City. Great place to stay. They also have a Pet Salon, Beauty Salon and a Bakery coming soon.

People at the front desk were awesome. Used the heater in the room had to shut it off and open door to air out the smell. Also the bathroom door didn't close no matter how I tried felt wierd but the room was spacious and clean. BYOB and water mini bar was super pricey.

Nothing special about this joint. Room was clean and everything worked. Isn't that wonderful! The big turnoff was the credit card hold for amenities which we wanted nothing to do with. Had we read the reviews on this place PRIOR to making the reservation, we would have gone elsewhere. As it was, we took pics of the amenity trays on the table top and inside of the refrigerator just before leaving because we didn't trust management after the unfavorable reviews. What a great feeling to gave as we loaded up the car! Another turnoff was no breakfast. One would think that for $139/nite you could at least get a glass of orange juice in the morning. But, NO! We pass through Gardnerville a couple times each year. Now we know where NOT to stay.

Spent a lovely weekend there. The staff is super sweet and helpful. The place was clean, the room was spacious. The place was quiet and very homey feeling. They get 4 stars because I booked and paid for the room online. When we checked in they charged me an additional $200 for "incidentals" because they have wine and booze and snacks in the room. Those things are super over priced like $5 for a bag of microwavable popcorn. A week later and they still have not released the funds and we didn't indulge in any of the goodies. If you're going to charge that much for something guests may or may not use rhe least you can do is release the funds faster.

Nice, clean, and charming inn with some unexpected surprises. Prices are a bit of a stretch, but it's a worthwhile and recommended spot for a little getaway.

Friendly staff. Reserved a room to be sure the dogs would be welcome. There were doggie gift baskets in the room when we arrived! Rooms are spacious, clean, and very well kept. Bathroom space is wonderful.

Please do not stay here if you are planning to go to Lake Tahoe or just in general! They falsely advertise the rate of the room. It's been over a month and still have not received the refunded money guaranteed. And the gm Bob for one does not know how to manage this issue nor any customer service. Just read the rest of the reviews below they state similar situations. If you are planning a trip to Lake Tahoe just stay at the Harrah's or somewhere closer for the amount the charged it's only a few dollars difference.

Decided to stay here because the so call "promotion" they offered me sounded amazing. If I stayed two nights the third night would be free. (Got evidence we agreed on those terms) The days I was there I talked to the manger BOB and said to give it a few days so they could refund me my money weeks after they are still charging me extra. BOB has no knowledge on how to run this place I'm not sure how he is manger there, he hasn't resolved anything. He claimed that he was going to call corporate to resolve the issue and he doesn't. I asked if I could get that number he said "They Can't Give Us A Corporate Number Or Someone Above Them To Resolve The Issue. The AC was outdated made noise. Requested no room service and they still touched my belongings. Thought if I stayed further away from the tourist section of Lake Tahoe it would be cheaper turns out it was a mistake staying here. You are better off paying extra at a better hotel than this. Beware of extra charges and getting no refund back for it! bob terrible manger!

Have not even stayed there yet, but having major problems with fixing reservation mistakes made by the front desk staff. I've already been charged $190 for a night I did not reserve nor complete a stay on. Multiple calls to fix, with unfulfilled promises. Perhaps reserving a stay at Quality Inn would have been a better idea. Had to call back again on august 7th, as the incorrect charges still have not been fixed. The Manager there, (name of Bob) seems inept and unable to resolve. I have asked for an owner to call me back now.

This nice little hotel was very quiet, and comfortable. Very close to some good food, and bars of you're into that. The front desk was accomdating, and helpful. I'd come back for another night if I was in town.

There's a lot of great things about this place. Beautiful lobby, beautiful room. The mattress was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly. All that being said, The free breakfast was unimpressive. All they offered was oatmeal or a fruit and yogurt parfait. It's most certainly not a deal breaker by any means, but it would make my stay just that much more memorable.

Unprofessional and fraudulent — they will keep charging your credit card multiple times, not resolve it or even call you back. Apparently no managements presence, capability or care for customer service nor legality.

I booked a room here when riding my motorbike from San Diego to Spokane, but didn't make it for the night due to a heavy March snow storm when I ended up staying at Lake Topaz. I turned up the next late morning and was welcomed warmly and offered a breakfast and use of the room I had booked even through this was already late in the day. Beautiful spot.

Initially, we were quite disturbed about how far away the hotel was from South Lake Tahoe, but when we awoke the next morning (arrived late at night frm. CA) and saw the breathtaking mountain view right outside our window, the negative blew away. Add this to CARA'S EXEMPLARY customer SERVICE and hospitality, and ability to graciously deal with an angry mob and nit-picky people; thus we joyfully rate this place a 5! As for the distance issue; SO GLAD we were 25 miles away from the chaos and congestion of SLT. After our fun in da snow, we all couldn't wait to get back to the serenity and comfort this hotel exudes. The rooms graciously (and affordably) accomodated our entire family which included five children (4-15yrs. Old), and our eldest daughter and her hubby. Conveniently located next to amazing restaurants, drug stores, and affordable grocery stores… we can't wait to visit again! Keep up the excellent work, Ms. Cara!

I would of gave this place more stars (for it being a cute hotel), but I had an absolute nightmare of a visit with the staff (Cara). It just kept getting worse and worse. The place is def cute, but I would say they have a staff training problem and generally they are being cheap on the little details. More on that later. So I booked the place on Expedia 3 days before Valentines Day. I was all confirmed on Expedia and with the hotel. Me and my girlfriend get their on valentines day weekend for our first anniversary and they say they oversold and my 2 night stay is not going to happen. “Cara” was working. She DOES NOT belong in hospitality. She has absolutely no customer service skills what so ever and didn’t look happy working at all. She basically said too bad, I can’t help you with our mistake, please leave. She was def a woman of few words. After a bit of coaxing she said we could stay Friday night but that was it. I didn’t get a good feeling from her at all, but against my better judgment me and the GF agreed. We’d been driving hours and just wanted to relax. We asked her if she had any advice on things to do in the area or places to eat. She didn’t have much to say. The only thing she offered was Taco Bell was just down the way. Wow. She didn’t even offer to show us the package of free visitor map’s on the counter that visitor bureaus give out to get people acquainted with the area when they arrive in a new town. Nor did she apologize for overbooking the hotel.

Update. We stayed here in October 2015. The room and accommodations were fine. The issue I have with this motel is I have been billed three times for my stay October. I was billed twice in October and again today. Beware and keep your eye on your debit/charge card.
