We just got home from a 6 night stay at this hotel. First I want to say the staff is very friendly. Francesco and Dwayne the bell hops were wonderful. Always smiling, friendly and making our kids laugh. The union maintenance man was also very helpful and nice. However, the hotel is VERY short staffed and the staff they have is over worked. Things run VERY slow in this hotel. We arrived Saturday early morning to attend the Magnificent Mile Lighted parade. We checked our baggage until our room was ready. Our room was ready at 2:30pm. We called for our bags at that time. It took 2 more calls to get our bags which finally came at 4:45pm. We got our "cold" clothes from our bags, dressed the kids warm and headed to the parade. Which we couldn't see b/c we had gotten there so late due to not getting our bags. 4 of 6 mornings the "Free breakfast" was out of milk. Having kids, milk is important part of our breakfast. Leaving me to have to leave the hotel to get some. We ordered room service multiple times during our stay. It took an average of 20 minutes to even get through to room service. Multiple times they didn't even call us back for our order when they said they would. The last night there they got our order wrong after waiting 45 minutes for it. I then had to wait another 25 minutes for the correct order (grilled cheese). The final straw was when we noticed our room was getting hotter and hotter by the day. There was a motor problem with our heating unit. It smelled like an electrical fire. They didn't have a motor to replace ours so they offered to have maintenance come and temp. Open our 11th floor window… Sounds super safe with 3 small kids in tow. They weren't thrilled when my husband said we wanted a new room but they did end up giving us one. At 9pm when all of us were in pjs and headed to bed we had to switch rooms. The hotel also advertises it has a jacuzzi, which it does not. The evening reception was a joke. We have stayed at multiple Embassy locations and had a much better spread. They offered chips, pretzel or pita bread and dip each evening. Also, not evening seat at breakfast/reception. The hotel did refund a couples night stay but honestly it wasn't enough to make me stay here again. We were hoping to make this a yearly tradition for the Holidays but will be doing it at a different hotel from now on. Management needs to hire more staff and get this hotel running smoothly.
