Such a cozy, quaint experience perfect for my time in Chicago!

Unfortunately not no! We checked in today and the room is vile and filthy. Drawers full of crumbs and hairs, cooker dirty, freezer has some sticky food substance inside. Outside the fridge is all rusty, the windows are dirty and all ledges are thick dust. The bath has is full of marks and hairs stuck to the side.
I asked to be moved to a cleaner room but got told the cleaner would come tomorrow… tomorrow. I think the room should have been cleaned before our arrival not afterwards.
My list of faults is endless.

They stole money from my daughter and have horrible costumer service! Several things wrong with them room itself and could not provide a first aide kit when someone hurt themselves on their property.

Extremely rude customer service, multiple things wrong with our room including a smokey smell from once we got the room, toilet leaked also kept running, no fire extinguishers in our room or floor, no first aid kit, smell that came from drains and then on top of it they refused to curse at us/ talk over us and refused to give our deposit back. This place was built in 1942 and seems like they have done nothing to the place since. Absolutely recommend looking for another place to stay to enjoy your time in Chicago!

It was ok. Mattress clean and hard how I like it. Sharing a queensize bed as double room is not standard. Location is great. Bathroom definitely needs a renovation. I did not need the kitchen but nice to have. There was free coffee all day. It was too expensive, but nevertheless the cheapest around. Think about this Chicago!

I stayed at this hotel for the first time during the Chicago air show and I have to say I was very disappointed. When I first got to the check in desk the gentleman right away said “I’ll need a credit card and ID. ” A hello or how may I help you would have been nice. After that happened, I saw that the elevator could only hold up to 3 people. That goes to show how old this building is! The halls were incredibly old and creepy. When I walked into my room it had a kitchen, which was cool but everything in the room was very old. The couch was disgusting and the room was extremely depressing. It even had one of those in the window A/C’s. I was shocked to see this considering it’s in a nice area of Chicago. I don’t get why they don’t update their stuff. I am not going back.

A decent place to stay on a budget. However, has a very small bathroom, with a shower curtain that isn't long enough, and the beds are not very comfortable. If we come to town again, we will definitely pay more for a nicer hotel.

Despite many of the negative reviews this hotel has, my complain list is pretty short. I'll start with all of the positives: location, location, location! This hotel is very centrally located downtown, three minute walk to the John Hancock Centre/ Magnificent Mile and very walkable to a ton of other locations in the city. The room size was more than spacious for the two of us, kitchen area was rather large (although counter space was limited) there was a nice living area with couch, dresser, coffee table and TV. The closet was big enough (although it could have had more hangers available — we ended up buying a cheap pack from Target to hang our garments). The beds are comfortable enough — a little squeaky. Windows have blinds and curtains, but do not block all sources of light coming in — not a big deal to us. The room has an in window air conditioning unit which does the trick — it's a little noisy but does a good job of drowning out the sounds of traffic outside. The lobby has a very nice seating area with a couple of couches and several tables and chairs. There is a computer with printer available for use. Complimentary coffee is also available in the lobby. There is a small, very basic fitness area — we didn't use it. As for the negatives, the cleanliness of the bathroom could be improved — on the surface it appears clean, but if you look closer it could use a good scrub down. The kitchen is very limited in it's utensils and cookware.

Hotel has classic charm. The rooms are spacious, but the bathroom is pretty tight. Only AC is a window AC which worked well, but was noisy. Had a great stay though, staff was very nice and helpful. We needed to check our bags at the hotel while we did some sightseeing and they had no issues with that. Would stay there again.

Great location. I had low expectations after reading some of the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. Yes — the hotel is old and a bit "run down" (as my 10 year old pointed out), however, there were many positives as well: Pros: 1. Great location — close to Navy Pier, beaches, shopping on Mag Mile. 2. Kitchen in room — great for making meals/snacks and bringing leftovers back. Pots/pans/dishes, etc all new. 3. Convenient parking across the street at discounted price 4. Coffee in the lobby (also coffee maker in room! ) 5. Beds were comfy. Room was clean and tidy. 6. Friendly and helpful staff Cons: 1. Very small bathroom and desperately in need of a renovation 2. We had a room in the back of the building so was kind of dark — I am sure the rooms on the front side have much better lighting 3. Upon arrival the hallway did have a funky smell but our room did NOT. For our family of 3 this hotel worked out well for a 2 night stay. If you are looking for luxury accommodations the DeWitt is not for you. I was told the hotel is undergoing renovations at the end of the year. I will definitely check it out for future stays after reno is done.

This hotel is older, but is being updated. The rooms were not fancy, but were fine for what we needed. The very best part if the hotel is its proximity to the sights! I would not hesitate to stay here again.

This hotel is outdated. Paint was peeling off the walls of our room. The elevators were broken. A member of our party was in a wheelchair. We were asked to use the freight elevator which was too small to accommodate the wheelchair without folding it up and having the disabled person stand for the ride. Once the main elevator was working we found that that elevator was also too small. We did book this room knowing it was non-refundable, but seeing that they could not accommodate our party getting upstairs to our room, we thought they would let us out of that. They did not. We did not stay the night. We checked out and went elsewhere and lost our money on the hotel.

Loved the room! Great location! Will stay again! Very clean, spacious with a full kitchen. Great price and super friendly staff. Cannot wait to come here again!

The hotel is wonderful. It is located in a great location. Also the price is very reasonable. The staff was very friendly and engaging. They also provided free coffee every day in the lobby. The only downside is the room itself. The bathroom is very small and the shower area isn’t spotless. Also there is no air conditioning so you have to open windows. But overall a great experience.

Super well located, it is close to very close to the emblematic sites of the city. Not very expensive ubers to museums. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

First I will say the location of this hotel is wonderful! There was tons of shopping and restaurants to walk to. I am just disappointed with the hotel. I booked a queen studio (queen bed) 2 weeks before our visit. We arrived and the front desk staff was very nice. We checked in and went up to our room. I was not happy that our room was located in the stairwell. I feel like we were put in whatever room was left! We get in the room and it has 2 full size beds and not was I expected at all (maybe the last to be updated). I went down to the front desk to ask if we were given the right room and I was told "all of the beds are queen and this room has 2 beds so it is actually more expensive ". I know she was doing all she could to make me feel better but this was not the right room and was not a queen sized bed. So I go back up and cannot stop thinking that we should not be in this room. So I call the front desk to tell them we do not want to stay due to the quality of the room and are going to leave. We could not be moved because the hotel was sold out which is understandable but we should not have been put in this room in the first place. I was told that I could not be refunded for that night, and while I was on the phone the hotel we were going to book instead sold out so we decided to stay. I was told by the front desk that some of the other rooms are nicer and to come back in the morning for an upgrade.

Nice place. Right in downtown Chicago within walking distance to the Water Tower Plaza. Great place to stay if you're on a budget.

The only good thing about the situation and the attention of the employees. The facilities are old, the extra beds are impossible to sleep, we were locked in the elevator and it took 10 minutes to get out, the cleanliness of grief.

Great value! Stayed in January for $70-80. The hotel staff was friendly and told us where there was a local convenience store upon check in. Pros: Really good location by several good restaurants and close to the mag mile stores, parked with a parking app across the street for $25 valet (no in and out access), decent size room, old charm. Remote did not work but batteries were quickly sent up and then all was good. Pretty view of Lake Michigan. Cons: really squeaky bed, dirty silverware, simple dusting in the bathroom could have been done, small tv.

This was a little piece of heaven. Close to the magnificent mile and great restaurants. The hotel is a bit dated but for the price and location you can't beat it. The staff was wonderful. First time to Chicago and loved every minute of it.

Though I wasn't there long I enjoyed my stay very much! The staff was nice, the room was clean and I especially liked the vintage feel from the building. Will definitely be back.

Yes this hotel is old and obviously not perfect! But where else can you stay with a kitchen in downtown Chicago two blocks from the best shopping in America? The price here for 2 nights is what you will pay for one night at luxury hotel. Our room was clean, spacious and had a view of the lake. The people at the desk were super nice and helpful. Our family felt safe and we enjoyed our stay. We will be back!

Location is great, everything you need is within walk distance and all The attractions of Chicago are accessible from the hotel. The room looks more like an apartment with refrigerator and microwave. However, the cleaning service for the first day is not So well done.

It is an apart hotel with studios a bit dated and small kitchen. Unbeatable location. While the maid service is included in the price, on request in advance. Should warn the passengers. The relationship quality price is correct.

We had a great experience at the Dewitt Hotel. Friendly front desk, clean room, good customer service and the location is unbelievable! We brought our two girls on the trip, aged 11 and 7, and they found the place charming. We wished we could have stayed longer. Would heartily recommend!

A Diamond in the Rough — Downtown Chicago We booked Dewitt Place for a 2 night stay in Chicago to see an AC/DC concert. We were a group of 10 and booked 4 rooms. None of us had stayed in apartment style rooms at a hotel before but everyone agreed that it was a great choice. Each room has a full kitchen — glasses, mugs, plates, even wine glasses. Also you get a pull-out couch and coffee table which makes the room quite a bit more comfortable than the average hotel room. The rates were great compared with other hotels in the downtown core and parking (right across the street) was pretty reasonable as well. The hotel isn't big on amenities — there is a lounge with coffee and a computer with internet access. Free Wi-Fi in every room which was all we needed. The location was probably the best feature of this hotel — it is only a 5 minute walk to the Hancock Building and Michigan Avenue. There is a small grocery store across the street that also came in quite handy. I will certainly be trying to book Dewitt again the next time I visit.

Excellent location close to Magnificent mile and lake shore. Apartment not suitable for a family. Sofa bed was so poor that our 8y old son had back hake. After having complained many times a solution was found by putting a mattress on the floor. Air conditioned system is extremely loud as well as the fridge. The manager offered us refund and tried to find solutions. It took however far too long and we therefore did not really enjoy our 4 nights stay.

Arrived VERY late and when I got to the room, I was shocked. Blood on the pillow case and top sheet on the bed. Feces on the underside of the toilet seat. Dishes were dirty but placed back on the shelves, dirty and stained tub. The fridge handle was dirty. Counter tops were VERY dirty and stained. This has to be one of the worst hotels I have stepped into and I am in the hotel industry. This does remind me that just having a clean room can go miles regardless of whether the property is updated or not.

Really a great place for the price but I would be remiss if I didn't say this place could use a little focus on customer experience. It's the little things. Having multiple clean towels in the room. The hair dryer working without having to call the front desk. There being a single source of filtered water anywhere in the building would be nice. All in all I will stay here again but realize you're getting a 40% discount in price for a 20% discount in quality. For me, that's worth it.

There is kitchen room type, kitchen utensils without a unprepared, in the United States drinks mostly only coffee, milk, cocoa and Asia for the bulk of the place, can boil water is all thanks, please note that the United States hotel is not all the water supply. The elevators are retro but often fail to reach the upper floors steadily. The lake and a bit in the noisy area, convenient transportation, shopping is also convenient.

Amazing location. Chicago's best sights are close by. Only 5 minutes to walk to magnificent mile. The hotels personnel is really friendly and parking is right across the street for $30 per night. The entrance of the hotel is really nice, the room otself was different from what we are used to, but considering we only spent the night there it was okay. Part of the room is a little Kitchen with a stove and fridge. Everything was clean. The work out room has a treadmill, ellipticals and stationary bikes.

Had to replace room, first was practically falling apart. Second is much better and i'm very comfortable in it. Fine hotel.

Good value for sure. Old building but it's in good condition and maintains its classic charm. This is an apartment-hotel so don't expect many amenities or services. If you want housekeeping you need to pay for it. The Wi-Fi was good and the room was clean. The sofa bed was uncomfortable however.

Lets just say I travel alot in my business and this is a true Gem of Chicago. I stayed here a few weekends ago and loved the staff, the building and location! I highly recommend this place to everyone! Thank you Dewitt place.

The website of the hotel sale The ' vintage ' side, he's right, we're amazed not to cross Al Capone in the hallways. This has a certain charm but also consequences on the comfort (with the exception of the bedding which is very good), for example the air conditioning set to minimum reaches the level of 62 decibels in our room, it lacks lights… The person at the reception got excited instantly, well it was likely a student who was making money during the summer but it was very amazing compared to the very warm welcome we had everywhere else in Chicago.

I feel like the current 3.8 star rating is pretty generous. Broken elevators, bugs coming out of the sink drain, and poor air conditioning are the memories I had of our two night stay. It was so bad we went to another hotel for our second night. There are other hotels in the area that are much better for a comparable price. Our first clue that this would not be a great stay was a person complaining at the front desk about being stuck in an elevator for 20 minutes and that their room was disgusting, and the clerk working the front desk responded like she heard this type of complaint on a regular basis. The only thing this place has going for it is the location.

Elevators were hardly big enough for my stroller. The two front doors do not have an automatic open button, so it was very difficult getting in and out of the building. The room was cute with a kitchen and utensils. The bathroom was very small and the water heat fluctuated from cold to steaming hot during my shower. There were big cracks in the bathroom floor.

Great location, but hotel was old and outdated. The sheets were not changed from the last person, I requested new sheets and changed them myself. I didn't feel comfortable, I had to wear saddles in the shower because of the condition of the tub. The hotel doesn't have a/c, some of the rooms have a window a/c unit. The one we stayed in didn't have a window a/c unit, we tried to cool the room with the windows open.

Nice hotel, we stay here 9 days, apartment is great, friendly staff, I could received packages and no fees was charged. Only thing I don't like was some weird noises at night, I guess was pipes/tubulation or something, but anyway was enjoyable experience.

Location is excellent, as it was said before. Otherwise, it is a cheap, dirty and old apartment building which rents rooms per night. Our room was so tiny that I wondered how anyone of more than perfectly "average" size could be there. The place is heated by old oil heaters and reek of burnt oil is everywhere (attention, fellow asthma sufferers! ). There is NO TEMPERATURE REGULATION IN THE ROOM! We had to sleep with windows open to relieve that suffocating heat and oil stench, and that was in December. One bed was so close to the heater that sleeper would risk burns if accidentally get too close to it. TV was not working, everything was stained, paint peeling, bathroom was not upgraded since at least 1950th and housed some spiders. Kitchen is antiquated and noisy and has no doors, so nobody in the room can sleep because of light and noise in the kitchen. Beds are old, creaky and with super-soft, uncomfortable matrasses. For the cherry on the top, Wi-Fi was not working. Everything staff was able to do was profuse apologies. We had to wait for an hour and a half to speak with the manager among endless lies that "he'll be here next moment". I do not know who may like this badly run and unsafe hole which is a shame of Chicago hospitality industry, but it spoiled our stay. We cancelled second night, never to return.

Very nice staff, and the location is great. But the accommodations leave much to be desired. There's a reason this place costs half as much as every other hotel in this part of town and I'll leave it at that. Go with low expectations and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Go thinking you're getting the Residence Inn (right around the corner) and you'll be very disappointed.

Smells a lil old. But the building is old. It's also beautiful and perfectly charming. Perfect location, friendly staff, and kitchen included. Small grocery store is right across the street.

DeWitt Place is in the Gold Coast area of Chicago, 0.5 km from Michigan Avenue. Within 2 blocks of Lake Michigan and the Museum of Contemporary Art, this downtown Chicago hotel features free Wi-Fi. Its apartment-style accommodations have a full kitchen.  Staying at the DeWitt is like having your own apartment in Chicago. Our room was more like a studio or efficiency apartment, with a small sofa and dining area, fully-equipped kitchen, bath and bed. It's in a great neighborhood in walking distance to the lake, Magnificent Mile, and many restaurants, stores and historic places of interest. With its comprehensive amenities, and its proximity to scenic landmarks and so many shopping and dining options, we will definitely stay here again. Hopefully for a longer period of time, so we can fully enjoy all that Chicago has to offer.

I canceled a reservation for April close to a month ago. Free cancellation was assured. I have yet to be reimbursed. Caveat Emptor.

We love this place. It is small and cozy. Rooms have kitchenette. It is the perfect place and priced very reasonable. Very close to the lake and Navy pier. Fyi. There is no pool or continental breakfast but it is close to all chicago restaurants, including chinatown. Definitely coming back. $28 for heated parking across the street but come on its Chicago. All parking is expensive.

Very nice went to Hawks game last night staff was very helpful with transportation to game information. Comfortable but very warm in room can't control heat. Had windows open. And make sure you have cash they could not break a 20$ bill for drinks out of vending machines. Blah! :).

Great location down the road from the John Hancock Centre and the subway stations. Very impressed wight he nostalgic feel of the apartments and the friendly staff. Room was spacious and having amenities such as a functioning kitchen proved to be a winner as we saved money by no eating out so much. Highly recommend Dewitt Place Apartments for anyone wanting to stay in the heart of Chicago.

We read reviews about this place on Trip Advisor and were a bit worried; however we were blown away at the value and location. Our studio had everything we needed which was great because we were snowed in on day. It has a small gym, but has all you need, it very quiet, yes, the radiator made noise but we were toasty and couldn’t complain. The units were not super new, but everything worked and was tidy and well maintained. Free Wi-Fi was a big plus too! Would love to make this our regular Chicago base.

Clean and nice rooms. They have comfortable beds, fully equipped kitchen. It is also very close to Michigan Ave and Lake michigan.
