Review of Cambria Hotel Rockville 3*

Cambria Hotel & Suites had one opportunity to really wow me, and they dropped the ball. This was my first stay at a Choice Hotel brand, and will likely be my last if I can help it. I was in a bit of a bind as I needed a hotel within walking distance of the Montgomery County Courthouse, and Cambria seems to be the only hotel in Rockville Town Center. I checked in on a Friday evening. I had a string of job interviews scheduled for the next morning and early afternoon at the courthouse, and was hoping to get a late checkout at the hotel that day (3pm) so that I could change clothes before beginning my journey home. I was told that I would need to pay half of my room rate (~$75) if I wanted to check out at 3pm, though a 1:30pm checkout would be free. I was surprised that management would not accommodate a mid-afternoon checkout. I must be spoiled by my status with Marriott Hotels (had a Marriott brand hotel been in this location, I would have stayed there over the this hotel), because I have never been asked to pay for a late checkout request like this. Accommodating this fairly reasonable request would have made a great and lasting impression, however now I am not inclined in the least to patronize a Choice hotel again anytime soon. In terms of the hotel itself, the room was clean and spacious. The bathroom only has a shower, so if you are hoping for a room with a soaking tub, look elsewhere. There is an indoor pool onsite (read: child magnet). There is a small bar next to the lobby, but there is a fantastic brewpub located next door with a much better atmosphere. Overall, if possible, stay elsewhere in the Rockville area if you are looking for above-and-beyond service. However, if you must be in Rockville Town Center, this is pretty much your only option.
