Was a very cute clean motel and cottages, the grounds where clean too. Had a nice little swim pool! Very friendly staff too! Also had a area with 4 propane grills to cook on and picnic tables!
Only thing was weird and different how everything shuts down on Island. Dark after 9 no lights because of turtles and eggs. But u see a beautiful sky at night with Tons and tons of stars. If u like to go out at night and do stuff the island is not for you. Just a very relaxing island.

My wife found this hidden gem at the last minute. We first booked a motel room which was nice. We got there and saw they had cute cottages. So I decided to go to the office and I met the wonderful staff who happened to have a cottage which had become available. So happy we got to move into it. We loved it so much that we are coming back next month for a week. Close to the beach nice pool. The staff is wonderful and we are glad we found this place.

Its really nice, relaxing and enjoyable here. The pool is amazing nice and warm, plenty of room for everyone. Romas is really nice and really welcoming. The beach is right in your backyard. Resources are on every corner as well. 20 years ago I came here for the first time and Romas was so friendly and I come back 20 years later he is still that same experienced, nice person.

Great staff, wonderfully maintained property, really nice pool, perfect Old Florida style resort… we’ll be back next year, that’s our recommendation!

Love this place! You can't get any closer to the ocean and beach. The room was spacious and it had everything we needed (it was clean, it had a kitchenette with cookware and utensils, a small table for eating, a nice bathroom, beach chairs, and a patio with gorgeous ocean views). We will definitely be back.

I sure do know how to pick the best place to stay! Just sayin’! This place is the hotel that is the closest to the beach on Sanibel Island, FL. I always look at Google Earth to see how a property really looks before I book it. This one is a gem. We originally wanted to stay in the cottages, but they were booked solid. So, I “settled” for the hotel. Our view of the ocean from our private screened in porch was, in my opinion, a better view than the cottages! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on the back porch and viewing and listening to the ocean while sipping on a glass of wine! The room is huge and has a kitchen. You will love staying here. If not, you are a snob. It also has a pool. The mattress on our bed was the most comfortable mattress we have ever slept on in any of the multitude of places we have ever stayed. Book It! Ask for Maria, she was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area.

It was a last minute decision to visit the island and Shalimar is right on the beach. We stayed in the Motel and enjoyed the room and location. Highly recommend Shalimar.

Great place to stay. You have a great view of the private beach, everything is clean, beautiful, and amazing. The owners are super nice and friendly.

Fantastic little hidden gem. Great location and you cannot be closer to the beach… woke up and saw dolphins out my window! It's not the Ritz but it is perfectly appointed, clean and peaceful. Chairs for you to use, coffee in the office in the morning, bikes you can rent and a great restaurant steps away! Not our first time here and won't be our last.

Friday night happy hour at the pool was a great kick-off to our stay. Lovely beach, great shelling, comfortable room!

My husband and I have been going there for 20 years, it's a great place for girlfriends to go. I feel very safe there, never any loud and disorderly behavior. Ramus?, the manager is the best, if he can find it, fix it or suggest it he will. His entire team. Is great. It's clean, well kept, the flowers and foliage are superb. When we pull into Shalimar I feel like a girl again…

Just checked out of cottage #3… still had a beautiful view. Wish I had a few more days to spend there! Cottages 4 thru 7 have direct Gulf views. Great place! Will be back!

A great place to go and stay for a few days with a great place to go shelling on the beach in walking distance. Their are also bike paths across the entire island if you want to bike places instead of drive.

Great location, with a super short walk to the beach from my room, they also have super cute cottages with ocean front views right on the beach. The rooms/cottages are also spaced out for privacy. I just would have liked the rooms to be updated a little more, but such a nice beachfront place to stay!

Nice Beach The accomandations were poor Very Old Hotel No maid service We could hear our neighbors walking around upstairs till late at night! Hotel workers cutting with saw outside our door at 9:30 Sunday morning! I complained to the office that we had to step over a plugged in saw and extension cords to get to the beach The paddle board rentals looked as old as the hotel Found some good shells Nice beach I don't recommend this place.

We stayed in the Sea Oats Cottage for 6 days just before Hurrican Irma arrived! The cottage was the perfect getaway for my husband and I, it was very clean and just the right size for the two of us. The kitchenette was convenient for quick and easy meals. Loved the screened in porch, especially after a long day on the beach. The walk to the beach was a short two minutes, with beach chairs readily available. The complex was very quiet during our stay and well cared for. Shelling for me and fishing for my husband were amazing, he caught a 32" Snook right in front of Shalimar from shore! We'll be visiting Sanibel Island and Shalimar again! So happy you survived Irma! Thanks!

This is our 3rd stay at Shalimar, we wouldn't stay anywhere else on Sanibel. The rooms are always very clean, the pool is always beautiful and well kept. The proximity of your room to the beach is incredible. The staff are very welcoming and hospitable. You will be glad you have stayed here. We can't wait for our next trip!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the motel part here for a couple days and we really enjoyed it. It was clean, accommodating (had a microwave, fridge, oven, patio, etc. ), and was the perfect size for just the two of us. Even though we were on the far side of the motel, we could still see the beach from our patio, and it's only a couple minutes to walk down to the shore. I also liked that there's also a couple faucets that you can use to get the sand off of you before you head back up to your room, and chairs that you can bring down to the beach — which wasn't very crowded at all when we went in May. Though we didn't utilize them, they also have bicycles and paddle boards available for rent. This is a very cute little place — we will definitely consider coming back!

This was our first time on Sanibel Island and we picked a great place to stay. The size of the resort meant that the kids always had room at the pool. We also noticed that Shalimar sits closer to the water than many other resorts. Our beach was not crowded, and it was great for our stay. The next time I would like to get one of the little houses they have. I also liked our screened in porch. It was very user friendly, towels available, parking easy, we checked in late, friendly people.

Shangri-la! Beautiful grounds, accommodations, location, owners and staff. I do not have one negative thing to say about this little slice of heaven on earth. We will be back.

Stayed here for 3 nights… family of 6 plus a baby. Was told when we got there that there wasn't any room cleaning service and that we would have to bring our dirty towels back between 8 and 1 p. M. Each day for new ones. Spent over $1250 and the 2 rooms smelled like somebody spilled beer everywhere, and they were outdated. However, they offered colorful beach chairs to use for free, the pool was nice, and I liked the bike rentals for $10 you can rent a bike for 2 hours (including ones with infant/toddler rear seats attached to them) I recommend Lido Beach in Sarasota. We stayed there in 2012 & 2015 at the Helmsley Sandcastle the beach was prettier… blue/green waters and the room was much cheaper.

Very close to the beach, clean and tidy. The Manager as well as the remaining staff is very friendly and obliging.

My husband and I have stayed at Shalimar for 3 return trips. We will be there again soon, and can't wait. We always request cottage 8, which has a minimal gulf view, but is SO close to the beach. It's perfect for a couple, and we have nothing negative to say about our experience — except we always hate to leave!

The guy at the front desk was very rude the place was old the pool was smaller than it looked on the pictures of the website we rent two rooms and the guy told us that the check out was at 11am, then today we went to get some breakfast and we got lost cause we are not from there so we arrived 1 hour late and the guy came angry and yelled at us cause we couldn't check out in time so he told us that he was going to charge 20 fokarrs extra per hour or if we didn't like that he was going to charge ya for extra night wish we didn't stay the reservation was for Friday, Saturday and we will leave aunday morning and we told him that was ridiculous and he was all rude, and then he watched the clock and then said oh I should carfed you more cause its 15 minutes past the time so we ended paying 44 dólar extra per room cause we checked out 1 hour late so it was my 1st and last time at that place that guy was an idiot worst hotel ever.

Had a terrible time & wasted our money. The manager would not refund our money or give us a rain check so we had to spend two nights in Sanibel against our will! The cottages themselves are nice but we came to play/swim/frolic in the water. The water was a murky brown ugly swamp due to water that had been released 8 days prior to our arrival from lake okeechobee. It made the normally clear blue/ green gulf water too nasty to get in. For us, the water was the main event! We live in Sarasota, just two hours away from Sanibel. Our water was not affected but the Fort Myers area was. We felt bad to see the water so messed up and later discovered it was due to the Army Core of engineers releasing the water into the Gulf because of the high rain fall we had this summer. I understand they had to do it to prevent flooding but Shalimar should have told us about the situation before we booked it. Instead they happily stoled our money! We will not be returning or recommend the place to anyone that is run by thieves!
