This place is awesome! It's a block away from MUNI Metro and BART, and coincidentally also San Francisco City Hall and UN Plaza… right below the mid-Market business area San Francisco has been actively redeveloping over the past few years, and all the new businesses and residential buildings that have moved into the area. There is a pretty stark contrast in this neighborhood with such significant wealth still comingled with some of San Francisco's least well off who are being displaced, which really opens your eyes to some of the challenges that have come with the wealth created by the boom/bust cycle that's gripped the Bay Area for the past few decades. Perhaps due to this, the cost of booking at the hotel has remained very reasonable. Rooms have fridges and microwaves, which is a nice bonus. The staff is friendly and very, very patient. A+!

I just called to ask a question on rooms and was told only the manager knows that question and was to call back next week? Dodged a bullet!

I heard shooting outside and also a car chase around 4am. I would not recommend the area to anyone especially a family late at night or really during the day. The hotel room was super nice tho.

Room was nice but try watching TV n was told it would be fix the next day when I was leaving not worth how much they charge for the room no TV my whole stay deff not stay here again.

Not worth any thing more than a hostel rate. Staff (wife) is very friendly, but just not a safe neighborhood and not worth what you are charged.

4/14/18. THEY HAVE BED BUGS! THEY HAVE BED BUGS oh did I tell you THEY HAVE BED BUGS! Completely rude when I spoke to them about it like it's never happened before but as I now look at there yelp review I see that been had them. I woke up from sleeping like at 1230am and had red welts all over my arms, back, neck and leg and immediately went downstairs to speak to owner (short Indian woman) which acted so shocked as she looked at the bites on my arm and neck and told me get cortizone cream and she will pay for it as well as would switch my room. I wanted to leave but it was so late I had no choice but to stay (terrible idea) so when I woke up in the morning after a whole night of itching skin and even worse looking bites I went back downstairs and told the person at the front desk that that I'm leaving early and I'm disgusted with the 24 bites I had on my body and that this is unacceptable for a hotel and wanted a complete refund (it's not about the money it's the principal) he begged and told me how sorry he is and that he spoke to the owner and they are going speak to Expedia to get the funds back into my account but at the moment he could not do anything and to call later.

The room and staff was great! The only downside and upside to this place is the location. You're located 2 miles away from the wharf and all the shops which is great! But where soma is located isn't particularly the best place in town. So many homeless people right outside your window shouting and doing multiple types of drugs. All and all it was a great place to stay, just a little sketchy at times.

Great hotel for the price point. Would give it 5 stars but I feel the $200 deposit (I pay it in cash and so upon check it it's returned immediately) is a little excessive. Especially since other comparable hotels in the area only charge $100.

I absolutely love this place its very clean and the manger is very acomdating anytime we go to sanfrisico this is where we stay.

It's rough but not horrible. Unfortunately the building is surrounded by homeless and crackheads arguing with themselves at all hours of the day. Including 4am…

Staff are nice, rooms are really quite decent, roomy and clean and parking is affordable. Only negative is the homeless population hanging about leaving trash and such. Saw the maid chasing someone off when we left so they are really trying to keep it under control. This was our second stay and we will come again.

The room is fine but there are homless in the parking lot and the parking lot smells like pee.

Surprisingly bug-free, in a pretty bad neighbourhood (but hey it's downtown San Francisco, so…), cool owners, within walking distance of some really killer stuff and skate/biking distance of quite a bit more. If you've got good legs and you're on a budget you'd be well off staying here, because it's dang convenient.

The room is spacious for the price. That is the only charitable thing I can say. The place is noisy, and homeless men hang out everywhere on the property, yelling through the night, urinating everywhere, and littering the place with trash. I understand that it's SF, and that the owners can't end homelessness, but this was exceptionally bad, even by customary SF standards. Also, while I'm not certain, the owners may want to look into replacing the bedding and mattresses, as I had what appeared to be bites from… something all over my legs during my stay, which promptly went away once I got home.

I stayed here over the weekend and my experience was great. Like yeah its not a 5 star hotel but your also not paying too stay at a 5star hotel. the lady in front desk was such a sweetheart to my friends and I the room was big and clean, and I had no issues. if I had to call out a issue it would be that there is a homeless problem around the area but even then they don’t bother you and thats not the hotels fault.

Very dirty rooms. Vomit or some other bodily fluids soiled the bed skirt which I removed, only to find dirt and food? Under the mattress. The cleaning personnel could've only been blind to miss it. Noticed it when checking for bed bugs after seeing a review on this hotel (admittedly shouldve looked further before booking the room) Crumbs, dirt, metal and a package of lube next to the beds, dirt and crumbs along every baseboard. I would've left but had already paid! So instead I bought lysol to spray the headboards and floors, and disinfecting wipes for the dirty microwave and surfaces. Removed the bed spreads and put clean sheets over the blanket. Bathroom floor waa equally dirty, human hair behind the door. Bugs on the floor in the bathroom were also spotted. Even saw human waste (number 2) in the parking lot. Plenty of number 1, which explains the urine smell. And… the homeless use the ice machine all day long. Probably a lot of hepatitis floating around the parking lot. Would not recommend unless I didn't like you… A LOT.

The owners are friendly, but this is an unsafe street corner where break ins and theft are rampant. Remove EVERYTHING from your car if you park here, and never leave anything unsecured.

This hotel is HORRIBLE, as soon as you enter their parking lot the smell of urine is overwhelming, all the homeless around there (which is a lot in that neighborhood) use their parking lot as a bathroom it's DISGUSTING!, When we saw and smelled that we requested to see the rooms, not much better, they 're smelly, not clean, the carpet was filthy, the bed covers old and dirty, over all completely UNACCEPTABLE. And that hotel didn't look safe at all. I made the mistake of not reading the reviews, I won't have never made reservations there, When I told the Mgr. /Owner that we wouldn't stay there because of the dirty conditions, they refused to refund our money, DO NOT go to that hotel you'll regret it, I have one word to rate them DISGUSTING!

Beware they have bed bugs! I only spent one night there this last Wednesday night (8/2/17), but that following morning I found clusters of bites on several different areas of my body! Arms, chin, neck, lower back. It is awful. I am going to call them to notify them so other unknowing people won't have to go through what I am going through. Will report back. Update: As I suspected, they do not believe me that they were the source of my bites. They are asking me to send an email with pictures of my bites. I am not sure what this is going to do. Another update: I called back. They claimed that they had bed bugs before and spray their rooms regularly. I guess I just got unlucky. They were apologetic though and said that they would spray the room again. Offered no compensation for the room. I just hope none of the bugs hitchhiked on my clothes back to my home.

Parking, cleaning room, Wi-Fi not very well but ok. There are many beggers, drunks arround, street with bad smell.

Great location! Within walking distance of the civic auditorium. Very convenient!

Nice rooms, nice staff, nice price.

The lady was very helpful so I do not blame her but there were hidden fees, the blow dryer didn't work, and it is a very shady, loud at night area with what I would assume has a very high crime rate. Probably wouldn't start here again, but you never know where life takes you ;)

This hotel was clean, staff was helpful. However neighborhood was very sketchy. I was not comfortable walking back to the hotel in the evening due to the large population of homeless. Is close to public transportation.

Other than a couple of noise issues, the service was very friendly and professional. Lastly, our room was very clean which made our stay very comfortable.

Filthy, disgusting hotel. Unsafe. Very noisy neighborhood. Lots of trash, homeless, drug dealers, and tweakers in the area. The parking lot reeks of urine. (They charge $25 a day for parking in an unsecured lot. ) I found the Soma Park Inn through Hotwire for $65 a night. I was put in a king room on the 1st floor and had to switch rooms because it was so nasty. Needless to say, the phone didn't work, the coffee maker didn't work, and there was no alarm clock to be found. The bathroom was dirty with black gunk in the tub and dirt on the floor. My room wasn't cleaned the second day of a 3 night's stay. Lia at the front desk was nice enough to comp the last night's stay for my troubles, but for all it's worth, I won't be back.

Bedbugs. Stayed 3 nights, suffered the bites for 6 weeks. Saw them on my bags the morning I checked out. Had to toss ALL my bags away. Stay at your own risk.

It's very reasonable, for what it is. The neighborhood is pretty sketchy, but usually more of a floor show than actually a concern. Aside from that, though, it has a number of big plusses… The people who run the hotel have been incredibly patient and accommodating on numerous occasions that I'm aware of, to a degree that would be best described as "saintly". It's also centrally located with immediate access to mass transit on foot (about a block to MUNI Metro and BART) and a straight shot to the freewayfreeway (101S/80E) if you want to drive to the South or East Bay, with parking downstairs. The rooms are large, clean, climate controlled, and comfortable.

Its cheap but the urine smell is quite strong… very loud alarm all night… sierns. People yelling, screaming. But very affordable and free coffee.

Hands down the best hotel for the price near a hub of very fun bars (Fulsom Street) pruvate bathrooms, AIR CONDITIONING, FULL AMENITIES. Only downside is the surrounding few blocks are rough. Literally my only complaint, and that's not really their fault.

This hotel is a great deal. It is pretty central, the rooms are clean, comfortable, and private with free Wi-Fi and cable, and the staff is friendly and focused on serving the customers as best they can. I requested early check-in and they accommodated, and it was great to be able to park the car there and take an Uber to other parts of the city. It costs so much less than most of the other hotels, and it is a clean, comfortable, and safe place to stay.

Good location by day. Not so good for after hours. Otherwise your in the huge shadow of Twitters HQ just one block north on 9th.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Ok, now that that's out of my system. So I park in the parking area which is behind that fancy pink clay looking wall thing which is holding the building up. I get out of the car and smell and overwhelming urine smell. Human Urine. YAY! I then see a homeless man sleeping in the corner in the shadows. I'm assuming it was his urine. For the week? Nothing against homeless people, but I feel like an establishment wanting to be presentable and gain customers might want to clean up the smells in the parking lot (40 feet away from the front door). Maybe take the homeless man to a shelter? Maybe put him up in a room for the night or week to see if you can't help him get back on his feet? I know for a fact you're not sold out. Cuz your parking lot smells like urine! Ugh. Just saying. Ok, now, that's not the worst part. The room was something that you'd find along one of those highways connecting a real city to another real city, but with nothing in between said real cities (Note: San Francisco is a real city). It was like a trucker motel. I paid something along the lines of 120 for 1 night here. Albeit in San Francisco itself, you should also price something on what you'd expect for 120. I'd MAYBE pay 60 for this place and give it 3 stars because I'd expect what I got for that much. Cheap bed, cheap bathroom, cheap AC unit and I think it even had a CRT TV. Cutting corners there hehe.

Great place to relax and a short walk to powerhouse or to Bart/muni been here several times and will keep coming back.

Nice enough unless you are one of those new-fangled types who needs an internet connection. They offer a free one, and you get what you pay for. Two days and I can't get online without finding a Starbucks (and there isn't one very close by). That makes this place a big "no" for me in the future.

It's an older building but clean located just down the street from City Hall. Best part is the free parking and it's a short walk away from Market Street where the light rail cars run frequently. It's a less expensive place to stay.
