FRAUD ALERT**** So here is the scam that this hotel does to some of its' customers. We booked a one night stay at the hotel. After parking in their over-priced Valet for almost $40.00 (self parking is the same price) I walked to the front desk for check-in. I gave the genteleman who greeted me my Driver's License and Credit Card and he stated we do not have a booking for you. I asked him to search other ways for the reservation and he did and finally found my reservation. He said I was a "No-Show" from the night before and I advised him that my check in date was for today and not yesterday. I even had the name and information of the man whom I confirmed this with at the hotel "Scott". I asked them, if I was a no-show then why didn't anyone from the Hotel call me to see what was happening. So as we sat in the lobby with my family trying to find a hotel at the last minute my son was talking to another patron who "was staying only one night" and the hotel did the SAME SCAM TO THEM! Apparently, it is more profitable for a hotel to book a 2 night plus stay then it is for them to only book a 1 night stay. So what they do is if they have someone that wants to stay longer then 1 night they will cancel your reservation and put the 2 night plus guy in your spot. This is highly unethical and I can not believe that they get away with this. When I asked to speak to a manager they stated there was no manager on duty and that they tried to call someone but it went to Voicemail.

I really enjoyed my stay at The Sofia Hotel. When we first checked in there was a bomb threat across the street at Chase Bank, but other than that all was good. The staff was always friendly and accommodating to all of our needs. The yoga was a lot of fun too!

I had an amazing experience when I went to the Sofia hotel with my family for a weekend vacation. Using valet service was really helpful. Timothy was really funny and attentive and really cute. We're looking forward to vacate there yet another time.

Stayed here for my birthday trip and it is a great location, close to a lot of great spots and the staff was lovely. The parking situation is horrendous in downtown San Diego and the drivers there arent the nicest, so plan on paying the extra 30 dollars for valet parking If you want to avoid all that. Be cautious of the one way streets in downtown too. My room was nice and had a nice view of downtown too. No complaints besides the size of the room. It felt a little cramped but it was cozy.

However, while visiting the hotel's bar & grill to have a drink, I requested to see the Philadelphia Eagles game and request was denied. DENIED! I was told by the male bartender that no one knew how to change the channel. "NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL" REALLY?! There was all of 5 people in the bar at this time and none were watching the T. V. I was perplexed, because the Patriots game shown earlier. Maybe they weren't Eagles fans. I was then forced to track it back to my room to watch those Eagles kick some butt, instead of drinking a beer at the bar and enjoying the game. Needless to say I didn't patronize the hotel bar again during my stay. Did I mention that the Philadelphia Eagles won! and and Eagles are playing Patriots in Superbowl 52! ************************************* UPDATE: Philadelphia Eagles won Superbowl 52now take that you bar tender!

This place was in a great location. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the room was nice. Great historic charm, I would definitely stay here again.

Absolutely loved this hotel! We were in the Magnolia Suit which had a stunning city view. The room was clean and the staff was very friendly. Would highly recommend!

Nice location as it is close to Sea port village, Sea world, the zoo, it's right in downtown near shopping and different cafes. It does not have free parking and you will either have to pay meter parking or vallet ($36/day). The hotel is nice, staff is friendly, rooms where clean, maids were excellent in cleaning and restocking the room each day. I will say that for those with small children (toddlers and younger) the room is not ideal. The bathroom has one of sliding doors so no way to lock it or shut it to keep little ones out, toilet does not have a lid so as you can imagine my little guy who is crawling and pulling up tried to beeline it toward the toilet anytime he could. Again there is not a door that shuts it's just a sliding door. Not to mention I couldn't get any privacy while trying to get ready. This hotel is perfect for those without toddlers or younger children. My four year old did fine and enjoyed the hotel.

Sofia Hotel, when the say Boutique and historical they mean old and small. Quality is AMAZING, hotel could not be cleaner, and the decore is world class. But the rooms are smaller then ones in Japan hotels, and most rooms have a view of a brick wall. If you want high quality and location then you could not do better. If you plan on spending any time in the room just be prepared, it's small.

Very professional staff and GREAT rooms. When checking in with baby the staff looked to see what room would accommodate a pack n play. Clean for baby to get around in. Thanks so much.

Decent enough city centre hotel within walking distance if little Italy and gas lamp districts. The building has an interesting history which is told across the hotel in communal areas — makes leaving the building take longer as you end up reading everything. The rooms and general decor are quite dark, for some this is probably appealing, I thought it was a bit dated and a touch depressing. During the stay we didn’t have a chance to take advantage of any amenities on offer, but there are bikes and walks advertised. The staff were really friendly as were the car valet team, don’t take their restaurant recommendations though unless you value size of portion over quality.

John the manager is awesome. Great customer service, beautiful suite. Staff is friendly and courteous and valet is prompt. Check out Currant, the hotel bar. Amber is an absolute sweetheart.

Great hotel! Rooms were a little small but amenities were great, comfortable beds, plenty of storage, great temperature control for air and shower, and the towels were so big and soft! Plus they had a tray of girl scout cookies at the front desk to grab from in passing.

Be very careful. You find any charges on the credit card absolutely not due and do not respond to the request for explanations.

Alright stay but nothing special. Good location for downtown. Comfy bed. Poor maintenance in room. Stayed for 3 nights. I asked them to fix the light above the sink because I couldn't see to wash but this was not carried out. Overpriced overnight parking too.

The Sofia is a beautiful hotel! My room was on the small side, as you would expect for an older hotel, but beautifully decorated. The staff were very nice. I didn't take advantage of them but I noticed they have free yoga classes and walking tours of San Diego.

World class, boutique — style hotel. Place is gorgeous, clean and well thought out. The place runs like clock-work. Great Location — a 15 minute walk down to the Seaboard. It seems prices vary quite a bit according to the days of the week.

Originally I booked Sofia because of its perfect location in the middle of the downtown of San Diego. Our stay was pleasant and the staff was really friendly. A day after we checked out I realized that I forgot my really precious jewelry in the opened safe in our room. The room was checked immediately and I was advised that my box is found and they are going to mail it back to me right away. The package has arrived and I can't be more happy to have chosen such a reliable and comfortable place for my travels.

Right. Small room, comfortable bed, small bathroom. It has a fridge, coffee maker and small water 2botellas of courtesy per day. There may be a smell of moisture. Downtown.

Very well placed. Quiet, clean and personal endorsement. Outside Parking right next to the hotel at $36 the 24 hours.

Good hotel, you have to pay a money to use your services like the Internet.

If you want to be comfortable this is not the hotel for you. The parking is $35 a day, although they don’t tell you that until you arrive. The room was small with barely enough room to get around the bed and cramped furniture. When you want to take a shower the water pressure is a slow weak trickle and the hot water has a gadget on it that reduces the pressure even more every couple of minutes (allegedly for water conservation) when it gets to 96-98 degrees. You have to pull a cord to return your water pressure to its original trickle. The water barely ever gets warm, but the air in the room will certainly feel warm. The AC in the room is on a motion sensor and if you stop moving it shuts off. News Flash… most people stop moving when they’re trying to sleep! The room was very hot half way through our night. We asked for assistance with the water and AC problems and heard several different stories, several lies and got no real sympathy. One employee actually rolled her eyes. Look elsewhere for a comfortable nights stay.

Historic Pickwick Hotel was completely gutted and renamed the Sofia a decade ago. Fantastic eclectic decor, charming character, good use of room space. Kind, helpful staff. Great location — close to water, restaurants, trolley stop, baseball stadium. A real gem!

These people go out of their way to make you feel at home, cared for, and comfortable. Helpful and friendly staff at all times. Rooms are small but clean and attractive. I had a room with a view of two streets and the harbor in the distance. Very nice. I appreciated Wi-Fi in the lobby. Concierge had good restaurant suggestions. Only minor complaints: could use a larger portion of the chicken Alfredo in the restaurant, and I found the lobby a bit cold, a frequent complaint for women in many places. Too much AC, its not just the Sofia that is guilty. Other than that, a perfect stay. Good value and a perfect location: walk to different areas or catch bus. Valet parking is high but you can find a lot a bit farther away for less, or park on the street after 6 pm.

Really nice rehab of a classic hotel and not too expensive. Not super fancy but clean and has character. The remodel is stylish while keeping a lot of the classic charm. Would be nice if it had a pool, considering there's still a $12 daily amenities charge.

The staff was friendly and the complimentary walking tour on Saturday was great. The room was small, but nice with good storage and nooks to put things. We were on the third floor in room 330. The light in the bathroom was very dim. Our room didn't get serviced, so I can't speak to the housekeeping other than the room was in order when we arrived, but there was food and drink in the fridge from a previous occupant. Unopened, so it may have been left to be nice. The location was great. The 992 bus from the airport drops off and picks up just a block away. It's a short walk down Broadway to the Coronado ferry. The Santa Fe Depot for the trollies is also just a few blocks away. The hotel is well appointed and has little historical references to the Pickwick throughout. Overall, great stay.

Great location to be a tourist in the San Diego area. Close to good public transportation and within walking distant of the USS Midway, Gaslamp district, seaport village, etc. Room itself was on the smaller side but really had everything we needed. It is just a hotel room after all and not a resort even though they charge some type of resort type fee but was not much and not worth quibbling over. But it was clean, quiet, and comfortable and in a good location. Was easy to catch the 992 bus from the airport and to the airport.

Shower flows then stops. Will not restart. Direction given for water conservation not clear. Nothing in bath to indicate this inconvenience. Parking is $36. Valet parking is not on entrance, but the next right turn. But you can not turn right as it is a one way street. Only one wash cloth. Room was adequate. Closet not long enough to hang a pair of pants. Liked the chairs with pullout ottomans. Nice shades.

This is absolutely, positively a 5-star property at an affordable price in San Diego, CA. The rooms are super modern, spacious and clean. The staff is incredibly professional and out going. The food in the American is first rate. I wish I had a chance to try the spa.

Service here across the board was outstanding from valet park to help finding our party on the rooftop. Views, drinks, and food were all excellent. I was a guest so I have no idea of the cost but I would book this venue based on my experience. Just do it.

We had a wonderful stay at the Sofia Hotel in San Diego! The rooms were clean, the staff was awesome and the location is perfect. When we arrived our mini fridge wasn't working, and after informing the front desk we had a new one installed within the hour. One day during our stay it was raining quite hard, and so the Concierge "Ian" loaned us his personal umbrella! We couldn't have been happier with the service.

Parking was $36/day! For that money, we could have stayed at a much better hotel. The rooms were very small, and tiny bathrooms. There are a lot of amenities that you pay for but we didn't use. (yoga class, bike rentals, etc). The location wasn't great for us, we still had to drive everywhere we wanted to go (and pay for more parking).

Hotel is good. Small rooms. Friendly staff… One really bad thing about this hotel: THE INTERNET CONNECTION IS EXTREMELY SLOW AND DOES NOT WORK. If you are staying at the Sofia on a biz trip and need to be able to connect to the internet, this is not the place to stay! I couldn't get any work done. As for the rest is a nice place to stay and close to pretty much everything in Downtown San Diego. Cleaning service does just an OK job when straighten up the room. Rooms are small in size even if you are traveling alone…

This is one of the friendliest hotels I have stayed at. Every member of the staff I came in contact with was genuinely helpful and friendly. This is a classy older hotel with nicely updated rooms. The rooms are a little smaller than you will typically find in San Diego, but on par with a San Francisco or New York hotel. It is one of the most pet friendly hotels you will find. Would absolutely stay there again…

Bed is extremely comfortable, rooms are clean, and staff is very friendly. Renovations are very well done. Great location and city views are phenomenal.

This place overall was nice. It is in a great location near GasLamp and Little Italy. Close walk in either direction to food and entertainment as well as the ocean. The rooms are a bit small and I had the worst view. I looked out my window and it looked directly into someone else's room. The shower was weird where there was no shower door. It was a half glass which made it a bit cold when showering.

I have never stayed here, but I called to ask about parking and there is no hotel that is worth paying $34 dollars A NIGHT for parking. That is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard. You can go to Vegas and get FREE VALET. Everything else seems wonderful but I would definitely never ever allow myself to get ripped off this way.

I stayed at the Sofia Hotel for 5 nights in January. It was ok. The rooms were tastefully decorated. The rooms are a bit on the small side for today's hotels It is obvious that it is an historic hotel by the artifacts and pictures they have in the hallways. So, that's probably the reason. On the downside: The showers are of the style that don't have a curtain and the glass only covers 2/3 of the shower so that the shower inevitably sprays out onto the bathroom floor, soaking it. Have a spare towel on the toilet to mop up the floor before you get out so that you don't slide and fall! This seems to be a European thing. Why?! Also the bathroom sink/mirror area is not well lit, making shaving and doing hair a little harder. The workout room looks decent. The area of town is fairly nice and safe. Uber makes things easy to get anywhere in downtown for $4-5. If you bring a car, be ready to shell over an additional $30 or more per night for valet (only) parking. Overall, not a bad hotel for the price.

It's a 4 star hotel with a 4 star experience. I couldn't give it that 5th star for two reasons: • It's Beautiful • It's Pet Friendly • Free Wi-Fi • Good Downtown Location • Fair Price BUT: • The rooms are on the smaller side • If you're in the bathroom with the light on, you can see riiiight through the door. It's fine if you're alone but if you're not.

San Diego has a host of boutique hotels near the Gaslamp, and this by far is our favorite. The rooms are modern and clean and the location of The Sofia Hotel is perfect — not too close to the madness of The Gaslamp and definitely close enough to venues like Spreckels Theatre and the Horton Plaza Mall. Right next door is one of our favorite San Diego restaurants, Currant American Brasserie. If you haven't been there and are staying at The Sofia Hotel (or not) definitely give Currant a try.

If you want to live in Downtown, you should consider living at The Sofia Hotel. Why you ask? 1) The rooms are very well done. The rooms aren't that big in size but are pretty modern and well maintained. 2) The location is amazing. The hotel is located in the Gaslamp Quarter district which is Downtown SD and close to nightlife, restaurants, shopping etc. 3) Gym and on call Yoga instructor. This is a good perk of you are a health freak! 4) Parking — Apparently parking in Downtown SD is not free and not cheap. There is no parking for this hotel too but there is a huge parking lot right behind the hotel where you can park for as cheap as $15 a day. Well I guess by now you are convinced why you need to stay at The Sofia Hotel. Tip: as with any downtown location, its better to not walk around alone at night. Stay safe and have fun.

Really pretty (pet-friendly) hotel and they give a complimentary Yoga DVD when you check-in! Initially I had a regular room with queen sized bed but because Wi-Fi didn't work in that particular room, they upgraded me to suite. Yes, please. The suite had a king sized bed along with a "living room area" so it was more spacious and a better view of the city. Very classic decor and the restaurant that's part of the hotel has great happy hour deals and yummy popcorn creations! It's walking distance from the Amtrak station and bus/trolley lines. You really don't need a car here, and can purchase a day pass for the public transportation system. You can borrow a bike (first come first serve) in the mornings too. If I need to stay in a SD hotel again, I'd pick the Sofia.

I checked into the Sofia hotel today and Erin at the front desk was outstanding! She answered all my questions and was wonderful. Yes, the rooms are small, but it is a charming small hotel that has character. So far everything is great and I expect that it will remain.

The worst Hotel I have visited so far. For the juicy prizes, there's very little room and half works not even (safe, light,. ). The staff is unprofessional and sometimes unfriendly. The surprise of the $8 additional per night the bezhlt, are normal according to the staff at each hotel. Already 15 different hotels in the United States, this was but the first for me.
Bathroom door can not be closed. Wash basin is located outside. Very noise intensively.
I can recommend only each of this hotel! Once and never again!
