The property can use some refreshing touches. It has a decent sized pool and hot tub along with a bbq. The office staff does seem to have some sort of attitude problem and doesn’t seem to follow the rules of customer service. Very snippy and rude front desk agents and not friendly at all. You can ask a genuine question and they will reply with an answer like your dumb. The property is an independent owned rodeway so the procedures are a bit different than a corporate owned property. The location is okay although if your looking for a quick bite expect to drive about 20 mins out of your way. The trolley (train system) is about a mile away and runs directly behind the hotel. Parking is plentiful however although there’s not much traffic here visibly, there is a lot of “unseen bad traffic via pedestrians”. Lock your car and take your valuables with you. Please also make sure to deadbolt your room as there are shady people that wander. Occasionally kick room doors in hoping it’s not occupied. Overall, it’s a place to stay but be prepared.

I really hate writing bad reviews but this hotel was disgusting! The rooms were filthy with stains/marks on the carpet, walls, and furniture. This hotels badly need a deep clean as well as a update. However, the staff was friendly and helpful.

Really great service Property manager Robert S. Was very kind and helpful with booking our hotel when we needed it. Not only did he help us book but he made our stay more than welcome, I know where I’ll be booking when we come to visit. Thank you so much Robert S. The room was run down and dirty. Everything was out dated and old. It smelled like a bad airfreshener.

We stayed here for one night. The man checking us in was very nice so I feel bad giving only 2 stars. It seems nice on the outside and the pictures but the hotel just made my skin crawl the whole time we were there. I slept in my clothes and didn't want to open any luggage in these rooms. The hotel has thin walls cause I was woken up just after 4am with the neighbors next door doing some hanky panky. Luckily my kids were crashed out from the flight we came in on. When we were leaving at 9am there was a shady man loitering in the parking lot. Asking my husband if he knew where the nearest liquor store was and if he'd seen the big security guard walking around recently. I don't think I could stay there again unless desperate.

Didn't stay here couldn't get past the front desk. The guy has no customer service skills, not helpful at all. I should have realized after witnessing the way he treated the couple before me. The 1 800 no# is pointless calling.

Decent spot for those that need to get a room midweek, but I would check the rates on Hotwire. It is usally the El Cajon, Santee, Alpine area, with a 2.5 star rating (not the boutique 2.5 stars), when using the hotrate blind booking feature. Averages around $50/nt Monday-Thursday nights. Alot of traffic comes through here, as well as frequent police patrols through the parking lot. Good for those that want to feel safe, but those that panic around cops might want to think twice.

This is a quality place at an unbeatable price. I frequently use this place to house temporary staff. I am very satisfied.

New experience tonight. We were in town and needed to stay in a hotel. The worst hotel experience I have had in my entire 45 years. Absolutely disgusting room that smelled of smoke from 25 years ago with sagging beds. To top off the night, we had no running water in the tub. Consequently, we moved to the Best Western up the street. Much, much better!

The bed are extremely comfortable the inly thing is that they dont have security walking around so homeless people go there.

The rooms are very comfortable and the internet is very expensive.

Rampant criminal and gang activity in the parking lot. Rooms are disgustingly filthy. Staff are inconsiderate. The front door of Room 119 had obviously been kicked in at some time. Paint peeling in the main and bathroom. Filthy, loose carpet with 'white' stains next to the bed. Rickety furnishings. An awful experience and waste of money. I wish I could've give no stars to post this experience.

This place is the Worst Hotel I have ever stayed in! Dirty Rooms, my Shower wasn’t working and couldn’t change me to a Different room because they were booked. Homeless people are around the area not safe. Worst! Worst Hotel ever! Please don’t waste your money on this Discusting Hotel.

Loved it can honestly say 1 of my favorite hotels… as soon as you enter your room its welcoming, and to top it off im so bad with names other wise i'd say but during my stay the gentlemen at check — in desk assisted my needs… Thank you.

24hr laundry room and vending machines, staff was awesome but they require a $50 deposit or a Card on file.

Made my reservation through Hotwire, get to the front desk to check in and get told that they only take the room deposit in cash. I don't know about you, but I generally don't walk around with cash anymore. Also, they had security on-site who was overheard talking about how he had just dealt with a regular problem person. If you know that are a problem, maybe don't rent to them? I am assuming that means they may affect other people's enjoyment of their room? The Hotwire rep told me he saw several complaints in their system about credit card charges.

Don't let the trick photography that they posted entice you. It's not as good as it looks believe me.

Stayed here a few times. Rooms ALWAYS smell of smoke even though we request Nonsmoking. Wifi kinda sucks and was hard to connect to. Beds were pretty comfortable though.

Home away from home great rates for decent rooms with comfortable beds. Excellent service the employees are awesome from front desk clerks to housekeeping and maintenance workers.

The bathtub was leaking… and I'm not talking about when you turn on the shower and water drips from the sides. If you turned the water/faucet on at all, water starts leaking from somewhere behind/inside the tub which caused the bathroom floor to constantly be damp. The carpet in the room also felt gross and damp. The walls are thin and you could hear everything that was going on in the next room. The area, in general, felt unsafe. In two walls in our room were multiple BB gun pellets lodged into the wall. We called multiple times for the Wi-Fi internet access, which didn't work at all, so we had to rely on our cellular data. While we were checking out, the printer was broken so we were not able to get a copy of our receipt. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience and I will not be staying at a Rodeway Inn in the future, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

Keep in mind, this is a 5 star review for a 2 star rated business. Had it been a 5 star business I would expect much more. The price was outstanding. We looked at several other motels and the average cost would have been just short of double what we paid. As we were only getting a room to relax and escape the children for a night in town, price was critical. The grounds and lobby were clean and well maintained as was the pool area. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and efficient. We ended up booking an extra night. Since our original reservation was for only one night, our room keys had reset. One of the housekeeping staff noticed we were having difficulty getting in and helped to resolve the issue promptly. We used to stay at an establishment in Mission Valley when "staycationing", but I believe we've found a new place.

It's ok for the price, but looks a little shabby. I recommend the suites. They are their best room and for a pretty good price. Check in was fast.

I spent nights in this hotel. First of all when I walk in to the receptional I said hi but she was busy talking to the phone. They're totally different than Subway when you walk in they tell you welcome to Subway even if there are busy. She didn't pay attention so I told her that I need a room. She took care of that for me. I went to my room close the door the window it was closing I didn't pay attention but then after couple hours I open the window and there is no window there. They put piece of wood like plywood what I am understanding from this hotel it look like they don't check the rooms and see what it's missing so basically I don't care I want just to spend night there quiet and sleep Willie deep but how they give the customer or visitor room it's missing window I will recommend this place to everyone just because one reason they charge me $61 which is more cheap than any Hotel in San Diego but don't complain…

Worst hotel I've stayed in. Very ghetto. Homeless people hanging around the parking lot and some random guy opening our door in the middle of night. Terrible place. Don't go there.

First off there are homeless living in their trailer in the parking lot. Crackheads walking around the property with strollers full of stuff. Tweakers all over the place. The website said updated rooms. Well, there were holes all over the walls, there were no pictures on the walls (had been removed), the air didn't work, my kids and I all coughed all night and our lungs burned while in the room, the TV didn't work, a greasy maintenance man came to fix and we had 1 channel. At 3:30 in the morning a man opened our door with his room key (we had the top slider lock locked or we would have had a drunk stranger in our room. He said "blood, open the door" then "oh shit, it's the wrong room, crazy my key worked in your door" and left. When we brought it to the attention of the front desk lady in the morning she asked why we didn't go to best western and that it's the neighborhood. That was her answer to someone having a key to our room. Will not recommend. Worst experience ever. Will be calling Choice hotels, can't believe they allow this in their chain, will be calling management. This place is a dump. $91 per night for drug addicts and activities, dirty rooms with non working appliance, and people trying to break in your room? Do not go here.

Comfortable room with good location on I-8. Faint smell of cigarette smoke in our room but not a problem. Excellent, helpful service.

The service was bad! Was told check in wasn't until 3. Came back to check in at 3:10 and there was a line out the door. Only 2 sets of towels in the room needed 4 sets, went to get some was given the run around. The TV remote didn't work properly. The room hair dryer didn't work at all. I will not stay at that place ever again. Choice needs to check into this place!

Would not recommend this HOTEL to no one infested with ROACHES. Beds was old and uncomfortable! The television was out of order. Not enough towels and bed room is design from 1950 from furniture to bed comforters & bedsheets. Under staff from front desk to housekeeping. Totally needs renovation! Noise level was horrible could not sleep from top level of hotel. Will not stay for free. Over priced!

Terrible disgusting place. Bed sheets where stained asked for new ones, took them 45 min to bring what they called "clean" sheets. We had to put them on ourselves because they didn't have housekeeping. Turned out the new "clean" sheets they brought up were worse then the original ones. They had hair, Blood stains and other stains I have no idea what they were. Stay away from this place. If you have no were else to stay just find a spot to park and sleep in your car instead. You'd be happier that way.

Absolutely terrible customer service. Tried to cancel the reservation the same day it was booked & was told we could not cancel. Asked if we needed a card on file, was told we did not need to put one on file, that they would take the card at time of check in. We tried checking in at 1pm, and were told we could not check in until 3. At 5 we tried to check in & were told our room had been cancelled because we did not check in by 4. We were never told we needed to check in by a certain time. Mally, or Molly is a horrible manager.

Don't stay here; sleep in your car if you can't find somewhere else to sleep! Worst night I've had in 30 years! The primary guests seem to be the lowest group of society with drug deals on every floor; confused guests banging on doors all night; and the rooms are the worst! Carpets with every stain still intact since 1968; oversized entertainment center taking up half the walk space; desk with no power near it; ironing board so old it left more wrinkles then could be removed; and every rooms wreaks of stale cigarettes and vomit.

The whole inn itself was not well kept. The elevator made this loud noise when it opens and closes, almost as if you're forcing it open. The front desk people had no interest in being cordial and the service was bland. The room itself was okay. The air conditioning didn't look like it was updated for a while. There was a crack on the bathtub and several appliances look like they've been there a while. All in all, it was a place to spend the night and nothing was missing and we were safe.

Very nice hotel compared to many others in El Cajon at the same price range. Nice furniture, clean, and comfortable rooms, and the area is not a problem either, whereas the building is not a hangout for the undesirables. The employees are not annoying, and the housekeeping was not pestering me at the door 5 times a day. The only thing to not make it 5 stars is that there is either no breakfast or its a really not anything bit oatmeal, not like the full spread of everything like the Quality Inn had before in this building.

Nice place to stay and the rooms are as you would expect. Nothing too fancy. I wouldn't stay here for a luxury experience. It's a nice place to stop by on a long trip without breaking the bank. Very easy to get to and centrally located to everything I needed.

I have never ever been in such a horrible hotel or experienced such horrible service. I have never had any service or business effect me enough to take the time to write a bad review. My key card (s) never worked for the 3 days I stayed. I literally wasted probably 2-3 hours over the 3 days waiting for someone to let me in my room or walking back on forth to the office. One night, the manager had to come let me in my room. As she is letting me in my room, I asked her twice if she was the manager. She completely ignored me. My wife was standing there shocked. I told her how much time I had wasted in my stay trying to get in my hotel room, her solution was to give me my money back, and for us to pack our stuff and find another hotel at 12am. The morning of checkout, I was held up by police investigating a murder that had happened at the hotel that night. Understandably, they wanted to question everyone at the hotel. They took a good 30-45 min of my time making me almost late for checkout. After all the bs I went through at this hotel, the front desk clerk warned me that if I was late, they were going to charge me the $25 penalty. Stay away from this hell hole!

I been staying for about 3 months I keep to myself I don't hang out the office staff are nice to me but 3 weeks ago a man was stabbed to death a few rooms down from me there are police there every day 2 weeks no hot water I checked out yesterday morning. Left tried to check back in about 2:30 and was told I can't stay there anymore she didn't know why but said there is a note saying do not rent to me talked to the manager today and asked her about it all she said is that are making changes and at this time and choose not to rent to me now I fel as if there are going to be changes they should start with all the people on drugs. Walking around like zombies all night like I said I tolerated Alot of things from this hotel but for her to tell me I can stay and when I asked her if I HaD done something wrong she told me I haven't they just don't want me there the woman Fatima is a sweet woman real helpful she didn't even understand why I was told this. So if you are on Meth you will fit right in I guess because they really are not interested in people who keep to them selves and pay everyday early hours before I had too and I asked for towels and the girl at the front desk told me to go to the wash room and tell them and the lady at the wash room said she would how them sent up 2 Danya later I finally got towels.

It's a sh**hole. Lol but I still stay there because it's close and fairly cheap. It's basically a rent by the hour type of place and not safe at all. So until someone has a hotel that is safe & drug free for a reasonable price this is the only option.

Let me start by saying, if there was a way to make negative stars, I would. The staff is rude, the rooms are filthy and they don't care. I spent one night in the hotel on a holiday weekend at the rate of 160 dollars a night. This is robbery. We got to the hotel a little later in the evening and we were ready for bed. We pull back the comforter, only to find the sheets had not been washed and were in poor condition. I called the front desk and they said they were going to send up new bedding. After waiting a half hour, I went to the lobby, and was told they could give us new sheets, but they wouldn't put them on. The new sheets arrived, and were in worse condition than the originals. This place is disgusting and I wouldn't pay 25 dollars a night to stay in this dump.

Very clean and modern styling, pricing seemed to match. Also close the freeway access. Im curious if there are discount rates for multiple days stay. I would recommend it to friends. I would say it would be closer to 4.5 on the scale.

I arrived at 3, got into the room. Room is pretty small and the bed is big. The price is fair for staying till new years eve. The elevator smelled like a cigar. The cleaning ladies were nice. There was blood stains on the sheets. Maybe it was paint. Who knows? I don't watch CSI or anything.

The room wasn't bad. It was clean and livable. The staff were extremely rude when I wanted to log in to the computer. My biggest concern was my safety. I saw at least 10 prostitutes and a pimp. I smelt weed on two occasions. I left my room at 530 am and several men were loitering in the parking lot. I think they just came down from taking acid. I saw a group of men high off their asses loitering around the ice machine about 8 pm. The lady in the room next to me was screaming on the phone saying "give me my money. " If my wife was traveling with me or if I didn't have my concealed weapon, I would have eaten the $65 and paid for a new hotel. It was that scary! Oh yeah, the continental breakfast was extremely cheap. Nothing to eat.

The room is very clean! Flat screen TV, Wi-Fi, and a decent breakfast in the morning. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a decent cheap room.

— — The front desk clerks were friendly and welcoming, but it was the room! We checked in on the second floor (RM209) and at first, we were like 'okay, not too bad' and then a few hours on watching TV and relaxing, I noticed a few things; the bathroom didn't have any towels (and I was like 'okay' because I normally bring my own towel, anyways), then the bed sheets had hair from the previous guests (which I really didnt think much of it) and then I saw something clawing on the headboard! It was a flea! OMG! If that wasn't bad enough, my husband found three more; but they were clawing on the bed that we were laying on! He had killed all of them but one had blood! I was disgusted and upset. (We) went to the front desk to complain and the clerk (Tanya) was very quick and helpful on helping us out; I wanted to check out and get our refund back, but it was a long drive for us. So we decided to switch room, but even switching room I was very skeptical because of the previous room. Let's just say, I wouldn't recommend staying there at all; unless you are really desperate.

I loved it. I stayed in a room last week and it was really nice and I loved the pool. The guy Benjamin in the front desk greeted me with a smile and was really friendly. I will come back here in a few weeks. Keep up the good work.

I will be straightforward. This is the sketchiest hotel I have ever stayed at. There are probably more sketchy hotels. What is the problem with this hotel? It is loaded with prostitutes conducting business! And their were several pimps too … some very strange looking women, trying to even engage the patrons of the hotel. The smell of smoked herbal substances wafting around at times … Don't believe me? Go there and look at the balcony … Hang around long enough and you will see some action. The parking lot seems very unsafe at night as various strange activities and loitering going on there in the parking lot. The place does not seem to have good cable TV either … Honestly, spend a little more and find a better place OR sleep in your car.

We didn't feel safe Horrible place to stay They don't know how to check you in we had prepaid reservation the put us as no show after we called in that we where running late then they couldn't figure how to fix their mistakes and continue to harass us to pay them after they had our money they just didn't know how to collect it and kept harassing us to pay.

I did not feel safe. Rooms are not in good condition never vacuumed. When at the pool people we talked to also said they would not have chose this place if they would have known it was not well kept and sketchy. Had to always get the room key fixed.

Front desk is super slow in checking in people. They don't greet you well. They don't make the effort to change you rooms to view your car. Waste of money.

It was horrible! Everytime we would leave our room and try to get back in the key wouldnt work so we had to keep going down to the office for new keys. That wasnt even the worse part of the stay. It was a MAJOR crackhead hotel, drug dealers, crackheads running business all day and all night. Several times I saw a man take bags of pills up to a hotel room tht had constant traffic in it. The following day we saw tht hotel had a busted window which was not just an accidental crack the whole curtains had cuts through them. We felt very unsafe there and I wish someone had written a review about this ahead of time because I definitely wouldnt have booked. Drive by and you will see exactly what im talking about. I have never written a review but this case was a must.

As others have said, this is an old hotel. Two things I found that are not acceptable. The cleaning crew didn't clean up some food wrappers left by a previous customer in the window. The room is not sound proof (gaps in the door) and you can hear a lot of highway noise.

Rooms neat, had stuff stolen out of our room. Daughter make-up artist, her make up stolen. Now they won't even answer the phone when we call about it. Never have called back. Can't talk to head of housekeeping, general manager. Been two weeks and nothing, always saying I'm just a clerk or don't speak english. Funny when we checked in and out they did. No one here for you to talk to, they are off. NEVER will stay there again. Always going to visit, just lost one or twice a month customers.

The parking area feels less safe than I'd like it to be, but hell, I'm paranoid anyways lol. Best part: good customer service and, THEY ARE DOG FRIENDLY :) they got my vote! plus free Wi-Fi.

Wonderful crew day/night shift. Welcoming and customer service friendly. With no hesitation they moved us to a bigger room upon check in they made sure we where attended immediately. They updated and remodeled the look in the room. Breakfast is always good and its convenient by freeway.

My boyfriend and I stay at the Quality Inn and Suites often and every time we come here the staff is very helpful with information, making sure that we have a great stay while we are here. All of our rooms are always clean and comfortable, going the extra mile and always have a willingness to be accommodating to make sure our needs are met. The Manager Alapa is always smiling easy to talk to and making sure that we are happy. So glad to have people around us that are approachable.

Great room. Def will stay here again although ice machine was not working on my floor and no vending machine. Good customer service. Wifi speed is okay.

Definitely not a Hotel, but a Motel from the 1980s? The AC was at least 25 years old, and the TV was a tube? You must be kidding me. Also, the Manager forgot to put the fridge in the room. Also, was woken up at 7am by some idiot using a concrete saw outside my door, so I called the front desk and was told staff starts working from 7am. Lovely. Last but not least, the motion sensor in the bathroom turns off if you stop moving, so if you are taking a bath, expect to sit in the dark until you get up and wave your arms around. This Motel definitely does not pay attention to details like customers want to sleep after 7am and customers might want to relax in the bathtub.

Just got in at 2am after driving from Las Cruces, NM. Considering this is 2013 th8s is a terrible hotel. The room is easily circa 1982. They are taking large liberties with the word hotel. This would be a shameful motel at best in its current condition. There were scantily clad women walking up the stairway with me. I don't mean to judge them by the clothing but considering the time I would have to say they were working girls. Check out the pic of the air conditioner. I only booked because everything else was booked in San Diego. If I had known it was this bad I would have stayed farther out.
